The positives were that our room was ready upon arrival although we checked in 2 hours early; staff were very friendly, we said we weren’t interested in the timeshare talk and we weren’t asked again; we asked for a room in bldg 8 or 9 and on a high floor and that was accommodated ; room(bldg 8) was clean and comfortable; parking was never a problem; grounds and pool area were very nice, no problem finding a place to sit by the pool and lots of activities going on in the pool area. The bad came with hurricane Ian. That wasn’t their fault of course but I was surprised that they were completely unprepared. The state of emergency was called days in advance yet it was as if they hadn’t gotten the memo. When we asked the concierge a day before it struck if there was anything we should know in terms of preparedness, they responded like they had no idea what we were talking about. We were on our own. We couldn’t find a flashlight anywhere so we bought some candles- funny story but the only ones we could find were $15 each. Thankfully we had those since as I came to learn later, most people at the resort didn’t even have that luxury. The power went out in the entire resort at about 8pm - no emergency lights- not even in the stairwells and we were on the 6th floor. No power on Thursday. It finally came back on Friday at 1pm. Anyone who could have left did by then. We were flying home on Saturday so it wasn’t an option for us. The pool bar opened on Thursday evening - they had some power- generator I guess. Since nothing was open in the city and we were in the dark 24 hours at that point, you’d think they’d offer a free burger to their guests- nope. Paid $30 for 2 burgers and fries in a take home container- to our candle lit room. It was also 60 degrees that evening so a warm meal was a treat. They also served drinks but not one on the house. The worst part apart for the lack of customer service and that my one week vacation in Florida from Canada was ruined, was that all the resorts on international drive were completely lit up the whole time! So this resort didn’t invest in whatever the others did to ensure their guests were not impacted. I could literally see the tv on all night long in Floridays next door. Sad. Won’t be back.
