Honeymoon at ryokan

Reviewed Apr 11, 2023
We were on our honeymoon.
Great place, the best option to stay in a real ryokan.
Service was outstanding, all the staff was really nice.
The dinner was spectacular, included alcoholic drinks all around

The private onsen (no extra charge) was spectacular.
Definitely would stay here again.

This is a beautiful place with great service. The private Onsens are amazing and very relaxing. The traditional ryokan setting near Mt. Fuji, the clothing and rooms are very comfortable. However, we are vegetarians and prior to coming we were assured proper vegetarian food would be available during the breakfast and dinner times. Their version of vegetarian food is raw vegetables and steamed tofu. My wife and I were basically hungry for 24 hours until we reached our next destination. Highly recommended, but if you are vegetarian, take this as your warning with lack of food.

I can't recommend this place enough. A hundred times. A billion times. This was my first experience with a ryokan in Japan and it was absolutely perfect. The place is located a fair distance from the Hakone-Yumoto Station, but we hopped on a city bus and it took us there in about half an hour (through the windy mountain roads, too, which was cool).

We were greeted with a welcome sakura tea and biscuit snack, then shown to our rooms. The ryokan itself is stunning, clean, well-maintained, and very peaceful. The greenery around it is amazing!! I've never stayed in such a peaceful place before. We booked the traditional Japanese tatami room with private indoor onsen and it was beautiful--plenty of room and a nice view of the green garden.

We booked a private outdoor onsen twice during our stay and I can't express how heavenly this was. Bathing in healing waters on a nice day outside in the mountains--amazing. The changing room and bathroom attached to the private onsen were beautiful, too.

I'm celiac and they were able to accommodate a gluten free kaiseki breakfast and dinner for me. It was excellent! We're both part Asian and love Japanese food, so we had no problem with the menu and will gladly eat grilled fish for breakfast--just a heads up that it's a very traditional Japanese meal. It was delicious.

We also wandered the grounds a bit in our yukata and visited the shrine. The nature around the ryokan was stunning and we got tons of amazing pictures. The staff were wonderful to us the entire time and were extremely polite and accommodating.

Will hands down, 100% recommend this ryokan to anyone looking for tranquility, relaxation, and a great meal.

Room tip: The Japanese tatami room with private onsen was spacious and comes with your own hot spring bath

We went there during Easter holidays and stayed there for one night. 4 adults and one baby. The hotel staff was also friendly. Food was perfect. It’s just very unique experience to enjoy the stay at this very traditional Japanese hotel with private hot spring. The hotel has a history of 400 years and it’s so beautiful.

If I had to sum up this place in a word, it'd be 'excellent'. This was our very first experience of a traditional Japanese Ryokan. When we arrived I was unwell and we were tired after travelling from Tokyo (it is a little way away from Yumoto - something to note as we missed our train on the way back!!). We had to wait to check-in, but once we did we were blown away. The room itself was gorgeous - clean, comfortable and spacious with breathtaking views over the onsen and scenery behind. It began to snow, so we snuggled down at our heated table and waited for dinner. I am vegan and gluten intolerant, so we'd emailed ahead to ask if they could accommodate me. I don't think I have ever been so well accommodated for...the dinner was absolutely beautiful. 6 courses of traditional Japanese cuisine, all adapted for me. Each course was explained to us by our lovely, attentive server, who was sure to point out where everything had been adapted for me, even bringing the gluten-free soy sauce bottle to show me! The evening was just gorgeous from start to finish - it was snowing heavily outside, so being cosy inside eating such lovely traditional food was magical. The breakfast was also amazing - not everything was really to my taste but I could tell it was all excellent quality and cooked with care. Super comfy beds - we slept like babies! Huge thank you to the staff for being so welcoming and accommodating. Both of us really enjoyed the experience and would recommend to anyone wanting a taste of traditional Japanese hospitality.
