Lovely, quiet, charming hotel in a great location

Reviewed Feb 15, 2019
Loved this place. First, the location is perfect - it's on the main drag in Puerto Princessa, walking distance from all the restaurants and bars, but it's set back from the road, down a little side street, so it isn't loud at all. Secondly, the staff is just lovely - friendly and helpful. Third, the setting is absolutely charming.

The only reason for the lack of a 5th star is that the cleanliness wasn't ideal. They only clean the rooms on demand and, even then, they aren't exactly spotless. Also, be aware that there will be bugs no matter what you do - it is the Philippines, after all.

We spent two nights there and it was a good experience.
The room was clean and smelling very nice, toilet as well.
The location is great and very close to the airport, in front of the hotel, in the main street, you can rent a motorbike or take a tuc tuc. There are also, supermarket, pharmacy and money exchange near.
The staff are friendly and helpful, the food is good, but it takes quite a while to be done if is busy, better to order one hour before.
We would probably go back.

We stayed here two night in a deluxe villa and a standard room then returned for three nights at the end of our trip. The rooms were basic but nice. The standard was good for one person but might be squishy for two (bed against wall). The deluxe villa with twin king singles was very good and right near the pool. The pool was one of the main reasons we booked here and it was a hit, very clean and open until 9.30pm.
The location was pretty good, a bit of walk to central PPC but there were probably more restaurants around the accomodation than the centre. At the end of the lane where the accomodation was there was a massage place which we returned to multiple times, the afternoon special was only 250 pesos and the massages were very consistant with nice set up.
We had organised our subteranean river trip already but otherwise I would have booked through Blue lagoon as they gave a good discount for guests.
The down side of the accomodation is the restaurant/bar. We returned for the extra nights because of the typhoon so would have happily eaten here to avoid going out in the rain but they just did not have their stuff together. The breakfast was reasonably priced but you have to ask for salt, pepper, a knife. Im not sure why these arent already on the table as everyone asked for them.
When we decided to try dinner we had to order 3-4 times as half the menu was not available. Just streamline the menu to seasonal items and do them well. Dont have a five page menu that you cant deliver.
The staff were quite slow and sorting out the bill was time consuming as we had to split between two rooms. With a bit of basic training and a few tweaks this could be an asset to the accomodation but its currently letting them down.

Room tip: Deluxe Villa, especially 8

Our main complaint about this hotel is the unprofessional service in relation to a tour we booked through them. We booked the tour to see the underground caves. We were in the lobby at 6:45 a.m. The driver drove like a mad man for about 1.5 hours through curvy roads. It was a miserable ride. We get there and the place is packed. Our group was #57 in line for a boat. Within about an hour of waiting on the dock many of the boats were coming back in because of rough seas, and the majority of the captains were refusing to go back out. At this point, we just wanted to go back to our hotel. The guide kept saying to wait, because we might get on a boat. If the captains are saying the sea is dangerous, I don't want to get on a boat! We spent the entire day sitting on a hot, uncomfortable dock and never got on a boat to do the tour. Then an ambulance pulls up and is putting an injured lady on a stretcher. We found out one of the boats capsized! The guide tells us at 1:30 there's no chance of getting on a boat, and we could eat lunch now. Many tourists were angry, not hungry, and just wanted to leave. We didn't eat and got back on the uncomfortable shuttle. We got to Blue Lagoon about 4:00 p.m. We were expecting a full refund. We got a partial refund, but still had to pay the driver and guide. We were furious! If they would have told us that morning that the seas were rough and we might not get on a boat, we wouldn't have wasted our only day in Puerto Princesa on a horrible "tour." Later we found out that other tour agencies call the coast guard in the morning, and if the seas are dangerous they cancel the tour. Had that happened we'd be disappointed but not angry! The front desk would not budge on having to pay part of the fee. Highly NOT recommend!
