Great location, all the basic comfort you need, lovely friendly staff

Review of Hostal Zamora

Just five minutes walk to Gran Via metro, at Plaza Pedro Zerolo, the location is a perfect base to get around Madrid. On the 4th floor with windows/narrow balcony overlooking the plaza which can get a bit lively into the small hours of the morning so earplugs are a must! Staff are really friendly and there is a vending machine in the reception. Small reliable lift so push chair/small wheelchair accessible. Rooms are compact and cleaned daily. Shower has good water pressure and hot water but bathroom is really small so if you have long legs you may have to sit side saddle on the toilet!
Wifi signal was weak most of the time we were there, if we could get it at all, but when we asked the staff would reboot it for us.
Be aware of pickpockets/thieves operating around the plaza if you sit at any of the outside tables. My son had his phone stolen and the staff at Sultan Palast where we were eating, were of no help at all. Luckily some local customers tried to help us but we didn’t get his phone back. Would return and happily recommend!

Dear Lydia we want to thank you for sharing your comments and opinion for the excellent assessment that our establishment deserves.
We feel the inconvenience of pickpockets on the street, we always recommend that you have to be careful, with that type of people who take advantage of carelessness to do theirs

We hope to have a new visit in Madrid.
Until then, receive a cordial greeting.

Accomodation in Madrid tends to be on the expensive side. We prefer to find nice clean accomodation at a realistic price. At around AUD100 per night, Hostal Zamora fits the bill for us. (A tip for first time visitors to Spain, make sure that you understand the difference berween a HostEl and a HostAl. A Hostal is best described as a budget hotel. )

Our room had a tiny balcony overlooking a very attractive little plaza. The room is not huge but it is adequate and very clean. It has an effective air conditioner.

The location is perfect. Just far enough away from the busy tourist areas but within a five minute walk. The area has bohemian vibe with many cafes and bars. We felt comfortable and safe walking at all times.

Jose, our daytime manager is charming, friendly and very helpful with all our needs. He was happy to loan my wife a hairdryer for the duration of our stay.

All in all, we have no hesitation in recommending Hostal Zamora.

Room tip: A room on the east side has plaza views.

Great position (plaza Zerolo /plaza Vazquez De Mella), Hostal Zamora has been a great place to be: large room of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens), 4th floor, Silent (good glass at the window) even the night of the final (Champions League). Personel at the reception very helpful and kind. Clean. Definitely I'll be back. Thanks, davide

This hostel is in a great central location. You will be able to walk to most tourist destinations around the city. We were disappointed that the nearby Metro station was closed during our stay, but it we didn’t need to use it often anyway. The area is a popular nightlife area, especially with the gay community.

The hostel is old, but still relatively clean. It was quiet from outside noise, but the internal walls were thin and we could hear other guests at night.

There was a safe in the room, but it cost €1 every time it was opened. We were also charged for our first night’s stay in our home currency without our permission, at a 5% premium over standard exchange rates. This practice is illegal and something to watch out for if your home currency is anything other than Euros.

Jose was friendly and helpful.

As for the charge of the first night, it is necessary to guarantee the reservation, since in case this collection could not be made it would be canceled; the collection we make is always in euros, so we do not know the reason why you were charged in your currency, or else, it was because of the change. We feel the inconvenience caused
