Convenience without thrills

Reviewed Feb 2, 2020via mobile
Quite well located in the northern part of the city, although on a busy road and just around the corner of the wide (and very busy) avenue Mittre.
The entrance is nothing special and actually quite weird as you pass through a kind of restaurant.
There is a small lobby with friendly staff.
The first room I got was on the first floor, was quite spacious but had no big (only three small, side) windows. It felt claustrophobic and I asked to get a room higher up with a view. That was possible and organised in a couple of minutes. The new room, on the top floor, was correct in size and had a (somehow run down) terrace, overlooking the neighbourhood.
Neither the room nor the bathroom were special in design. Functional is probably the best description. All fairly clean.
The bed and pillows were excellent and very clean.
I didn’t have breakfast in the hotel as that is served in the basement and I am not into that.
The price for the room was very acceptable.
I wouldn’t consider this a 4 star hotel, but rather a regular three star one.
It’s close to my customer, so from thet perspective it was convenient. But I’d prefer to select another place on my next business trip.

Thank you very much Olivierfrombrussels for sharing with us your experience.
We can understand you prefer another kind of hotel, but we could not agree that our hotel is not a 4 stars hotel. We remained at your entire disposal since you arrived, trying to meet always your expectations.
Despite your perception, it was a great pleasure for us to assist you and for this reason we absolutely feel gratitude.
Our best regards from Barcelona, enjoy the city on your next visits. It is wonderful!

Excellent breakfast, staff very polite who gave us useful information what to visit in the city. Good connection to metro and the bus station. We would recommend this hotel to our friends and back to hotel definitively.

We stayed at this hotel a few weeks ago, and it was very good!
Amaizing breakfast with plenty to offer all
The rooms are of a very good size and the beds are very very comfortable. Great blackout curtains and the staff are very helpful. (especially Jordi who helped us, a lot)
The hotel can be recommended at all.

There are positives and negatives about this hotel. I was on a bus tour with Globus, so my room was booked for me. I paid for an extra night, $141. I now see a single room on this site for $70. WHAT A RIP OFF!!!
My room was nice and spacious. Great mattress and pillows. The hot water and shower were fantastic. Overall the condition of the hotel is very good. Nice amenities.
I did not like the location of the hotel. It is not close to the historical areas, nor the shopping/central area of the city. Being American and not able to speak much Spanish, my opportunity, not the hotel’s, traveling around the city was difficult. The hotel is near the Metro, but traveling alone, I did not want to run the risk of taking the wrong train and not finding anyone that could help me. Most every taxi ride was 15 euros and the drivers, not understanding English, (I did start writing down the address to (hand to them)just took off and started the meter. On three occasions, I was dropped off nowhere near where I wanted to be. Most drivers were extremely rude and were openly annoyed when I paid by credit card.
Only three of the hotel staff were nice to deal with, Yumara, Munia and a young man who worked evenings. Other members, especially the men who worked in the evenings and the man who worked the breakfast buffet were rude and did not really want to help me when I had a problem.
The hotel sold me a ticket for one of the hop on hop off double decker tour buses for 30 euro. I was given a print off of the payment. When I presented it to the bus, it would not scan. I had spent 15 euro on the way to the bus and 15 euro back to the hotel. I told the hotel about it. They said they would get me a refund which I still haven’t seen. This was six days ago. So I’m out 60 euro for a bus ride I never took. I also found out that the other tour bus runs near the hotel. Why wouldn’t the hotel sell that bus line?
Lastly, the breakfast was not good, especially the “hot items.” The eggs were cold and runny the sausages were barely cooked. The cut melons were not ripe.
I would only recommend this hotel if you can speak fluid Catalonian, the local Spanish dialect, navigate the metro or city bus line by being able to read Spanish.
As a footnote, I ran into rude taxi drivers in Barcelona and Madrid. I was severely language challenged in those two areas. I do not hold this hotel accountable for these issues.
I uses taxis today in Seville. What a difference, not just in taxi drivers, but in other service areas as well. One of the drivers told me Seville will soon be offering English classes for the drivers.

Thank you very much dhop0606 for all the time you spent writing your review!!!!!!! Proud of our guests!
We regret the location did not like you. We are very close to the city center and we have also many hotels in the center if you prefer. The price is higher there , as you know, maybe 100€ more/night. For this reason, our hotel is appropriate if you want to visit the city and have a good price. Refering to the taxi drivers,, little can we do. Thank you so much for all your comments. Have a nice day!

This is definitely not a 4 star kind of place. I was on a tour so didn't have a choice of where to stay. For the most part, staff members were friendly and helpful with one exception (well, maybe 2). Food in the restaurant was good, served by a wonderful young man, Ali. However, the food served for the tour was not. Location, so/so. Wouldn't stay there again by choice. And, my room was on the street and very, very noisy all night.

Room tip: Don't get an up front room.

Have just come back from 5 days in Barcelona for my last trip there of this year. I’m a frequent traveller and always like to try a new hotel if I can whenever I go to BCN.
This hotel is by no means a 4 star and I can safely say I’ve stayed at numerous 4 star hotels in Barcelona and this certainly isn’t one.
The hotel is dated, the pool is cold and looks over buildings that are constantly being worked on. The view from the room was of someone’s bathroom and a grubby alley way... not bad for £630 you think!
I wouldn’t recommend this hotel unless you like being around traffic and noise and a hotel that’s old fashioned.
If you are looking for a 4 * I will now revert back to either Barcelona princess who has an exceptional 23rd floor pool or the Catalonia plaza.
Not to mention the pool area is rusty and probably in need of some tlc

Thank you very much Robbie for giving us the opportunity to improve with all your information.
When you feel unconfortable, please inform to the reception desk always because many hotels in barcelona are owned for chains. Barcelona Plaza hotel is in our portfolio, so, your confortability is the first. We could change your reservation without problems if you prefered another hotel. As you could check booking your room through internet, our hotel is just in the city, so you mention hotels with a very different structure. Plaza Hotel and Princess Hotel are hotels with a higher price and they do not give the 5 stars for a legal aspects, but the range of services deserve it. So you are comparing products totally different. There you pay an average of 60€ more per night . So do not hesitate to contact us in the future and we will be really pleased to give you the prices before you decide your trip . Kind regards from Barcelona!
