Disappointing

We are trying hard to find some positives about our recent overnight stay after our flight was cancelled. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweigh any favourable comments. The room #212 we were allocated was dark and gloomy, it was an interior room facing another part of the hotel. Opening the blinds/curtains and switching on the lights didn't help. The room had been prepared to accommodate one guest, despite our two person double room booking. Just one bathrobe, slippers set and towels were provided. Fortunately a housekeeping person was on the same floor down the hallway so I had to request what was missing. This was before we discovered the bathroom essentials were sparse or missing. There was no Shower Gel and little else that is normally provided in a four star hotel. Remember, our flight had been cancelled, therefore we had no luggage - Being an airport hotel, one would expect it to cater for its many guests faced with a similar predicament - a travel size tube of toothpaste and brush would have been welcome. We were forced to once again battle the crowds at Schiphol to track down bathroom items. The room was cold and uncomfortable because the thermostat was useless. We ate dinner in the bar/restaurant and that experience was underwhelming. Food was average and service mediocre. The icing on the cake was receiving the emailed invoice - the amount debited exceeded the price quoted on Bookings.com

I generally liked this hotel, although I mainly went with it because I had an early flight and didn't want to mess with a shuttle or other way of getting to the airport. Otherwise I think it is priced higher than I would normally spend.

The hotel is easily accessed via an escalator to a walkway from the arrivals 3 area at Schiphol airport (unfortunately signs at Schiphol is not good so it's harder to find than it should be.)

The lobby is well appointed, check in staff were friendly and efficient, exactly what I'd expect.

My room was more to US standards, so larger with a big shower. Having stayed 2 previous days at a European style boutique hotel, the room and everything in it seemed absolutely massive. Everything was clean, nice furniture with no obvious damage or wear and tear. The bed was comfortable and worked well.

I did not like the dining arrangement, I arrived around 6pm and the only kitchen open was the finer dining restaurant. I actually had a dish at the commune restaurant I wanted to try but their kitchen was closed. I'm not sure if that was timing or if they were having staffing issues.

We were revisiting Keukenhof & chose Sheraton for its location - direct bus from airport to the garden and the city. We were happy with our short stay & overall services from staff. We were fortunate to have met Jamie, Duty Manager who was kind to share local information and thank you for the souvenir that kept reminding us of beautiful Nederlands 😍

In mid-April, on business, I ended up on the way home, during the day at the Amsterdam airport. Very convenient, I handed over the car from rental to the parking lot and after 2 minutes I went to the hotel. The atmosphere, a lot of space, soft colors in the interior, meeting with a smile, immediately made it possible to exhale heavy air after a long car trip). The room was clean, neat, I would say so), the music from the TV with the advertising of the hotel created a pleasant and calm atmosphere. A restaurant with excellent steak and red wine, coupled with staff, who calmly gave the opportunity to choose food and paralyzed recommendations from the cook. Which as a bonus, later presented a plate with a steamed vegetable, were very useful, thanks again! There were plans to take a walk, but the hotel sucked in with its serene calm. Having gained strength after the steak, I dived into the seething airport, the contrasts are amazing), it was nice to wander, idle, among those working, walking, running, sleeping, standing, chewing, drinking and smoking on the street with a subtle aroma, people). When I realized that the steak had already been absorbed into my body and the wine had dissolved into the airport aura, pulled back into the hotel, the contrasts were striking), quietly, calmly, understandably. Back to restaurant bar), wine + salmon + book bought from the same hotel, great bedtime evening. Breakfast good, staff polite and coffee I liked, even very much! It is very convenient to leave a good hotel and get into the departure area in 5 minutes, immediately after breakfast. If you need to spend the night at Amsterdam airport and have a flight in the morning, I think this is a very good choice. Only my opinion).

I have been traveling to the Netherlands for over 20 years and I Have always wanted to stay at the Sheraton at Schiphol airport. Unfortunately the company didn’t have the hotel on the “approved” list. Today I finally got my wish and got to stay as an exception.

I am disappointed. Now I admit, anticipation leads to disappointment and I have been anticipating for many years. Even so, it just wasn’t great.

Highlights
Check in was good. Antonio was excellent and even though I was early, found me a room. Club floor, up charge 40 euro.

Room is nice. Nice view. But let’s be clear, every hotel room looks the same.

Marica in the club lounge was an awesome persons. Explained how the club worked and let me know the proper hours of operation. She even said hi to me while I was at dinner.

Disappointments,
I went to the restaurant Commune on the R floor for what was to be lunch. After a short wait someone found me and led me to a table. This was odd because no fewer that three restaurant staff saw me waiting for a table, as the sign says, and May no move to assist or intervene. Once seated with menus no one came to see if I wanted lunch. After 20 minutes I left. What made this quote odd was that the same staff who saw me waiting for a table also saw me waiting at a table. Apparently food service is not in the job description.

I had room service since lunch was a no go. Food ok. Couldn’t find a person to get the tray. I got it trays aren’t high priority. So don’t tell me 30 minutes to pick up the tray of you aren’t going to pick it up. I put it in the hall.

I opted to try one more time at Commune for dinner. The other restaurant at the hotel being closed for dinner. Odd since this was where hotel staff suggested I go for dinner. To keep things simple I ordered a G&T, steak and a glass of wine. Instructions not to start the steak until the G&T was gone. No luck. Never got the wine. Still drinking G&T. The streak was good and well prepared. The people side of Understanding what I wanted was a big miss.

I realize this may sound picky. I get it. PreCovid I traveled a lot. At least 50% of the time all over the world. And the one thing that makes any of that bearable are the people with whom you interact. A smile, a hello, an acknowledgement that you are here. I go back to places specifically for the people. And I know mistakes happen. I get it that the world isn’t perfect and doesn’t run on my clock. But it isn’t too much to ask that in a hotel where I am going to spend my money and time that at least you pay some attention.

And just in case you are wondering, expensive hotels don’t have a leg up on cheaper hotels. Hotels that have the best people have a leg up on the ones who don’t.

This is my first time with sheraton brand,
I'm so happy with the overall service except for the boring room,
it is so so convenient if you must take a early flight. Had a bad day due to the cancellation of my flight but Isuru did a great job and turned upside down our day with his smile and words.
Next day was my birthday and he gave a free upgrade and breakfast boxes for our early flight really appreciate that.
