Better than its reviews!

Reviewed Mar 19, 2024via mobile
My wife booked me this Sandman for a single night trip. I checked the reviews online after and thought maybe I should cancel! The reviews were not good.
However my experience was different! Here’s what I can tell you:
1) Front desk staff were friendly. Even the maintenance guy helped me find the way to the pool and was super nice (it’s a bit of a maze)
2) I stayed in the main part of the hotel (not the tower) and my room was clean. It was also reasonably modern. Yes, the renos were done on the cheap but thats fine with me, the room rate was quite reasonable!
3) pool/hot tub was awesome. Went at 5pm and had it all to myself.

My only suggestion would be to add a shower head in the pool area for a quick rinse off before getting in. I looked everywhere and couldn't find one. People are unlikely to shower in their rooms first.

Room Tip: Great location at a great price.

This was hands down the worst, most disgusting, run down hotel that I have ever stayed at. I would not let my children take their shoes off as the carpet is worse than you could ever imagine. We stayed 2 nights for an hockey tourney and not once did I ever see cleaning staff around the hotel. I was leery to leave my vehicle in the parking lot, as there were people living rough all around. I would highly suggest staying anywhere else!

Room tip: My only advice is to avoid this place

We stayed here primarily because it was supposed to have an atrium and pool. We asked when we booked about the pool and were told it was open. When we arrived it was closed for construction but the front staff said the hot tub still worked. It turned out it also was not working. They should have emailed us that the pool was closed prior to our stay. We had asked for a room indoor facing the atrium/pool area. But the balcony etc was covered in construction dust as were the windows. The atrium area is dark/dingy and has little to no plants. The hotel and rooms were very dated. The rooms were also dusty and not that clean. The wifi was also down so we called the front desk. They said they would send up somebody to discuss our concerns, no one came and we had to go down to the front again. The front staff seemed to not know what to do and said we could move rooms but because of the construction it would be the same. They said the tower had better rooms but we would have to wait to get a room there. Very poor front desk service. This hotel is to dated and unclean to be comfortable. It would be better to spend a few more dollars to have a clean and comfortable stay somewhere else.

Room tip: I for some reason you have to stay here. Ask to stay in the tower, supposedly the rooms in the tower are a bit better.

Despite some negative reviews, we decided to give this hotel a chance on a recent trip, for an early morning flight out of Kelowna airport.

First, the long term parking facilities offered here are great. If you book the night before you fly out, you get 15 days of free parking. Then if you book another night on your return, you get free parking applied in reverse! Fantastic deal! For this alone, we will continue to stay here whenever the need arises.

We booked a King Room in the Executive Tower, and at check in, we received a complimentary upgrade to a King Suite. The Front desk staff was really friendly, and helpfull. From start to finish, all the staff we encountered was polite, cheerful, and very friendly.

The rooms are a little outdated, but hey the price was excellent, so no complaints there.

The shower had plenty of hot water, and the bed was super comfy. We had a good night's sleep.

If there was one complaint, it would be with the Denny's Restaurant attached to the hotel. As Platinum Members, we received a dining discount card for supper upon arrival. The staff in Denny's had no idea what to do with it. And despite paying for our bill via debit card, the restaurant double charged us, and applied the bill to our room. This was done without our consent, and without even telling us.
I didn't notice this until after we had checked out the net morning.

Thankfully, the front desk staff rectified the mistake, and reversed the charges for us.

But to make a charge without consent to a guest's room is absolutely unnaceptable practice.

We will continue to use this hotel whenever we are in Kelowna.

It's a decent hotel. The front office staff weren't that friendly though, didn't notice anyone smile. The lady at the bar was quite friendly.

We didn't like their outdated room key cards, as we were informed the key gets demagnetized if it left together with our phone, wallet, etc.

They need to pay attention to cleanliness, the table centerpiece had collected dust and can be easily noticed.
