OK HOTEL FOR A SHORT STAY

Reviewed Feb 21, 2019
Booked this hotel last minute as the usual hotel was already fully booked for our dates. On the whole it was ok for a short stay but I would not recommend it for a long stay. The property is very large but the grounds and some areas could do with some updating ..eg old furniture and rubbish in full view of the walkways. The room faced the pool and was very basic but clean, it could be quite noisy as it was opposite the bar area it did not have a balcony so I think we were in the cheapest room on the complex. Check in was ok however the room did not have a fridge which was clearly advertised as part of the facilities when we booked. After some confusion the staff did their best to rectify the situation by offering to put our items in the fridge in the bar until the next day when a fridge would be available. On the whole it was a pleasant stay but we did not find it relaxing , it is a budget complex but by no means the worst. The pool was a good size, location was good and the beach was right across the road so that was the positives.

Room Tip: The rooms look far better online than they are in reality so please bear this in mind when booking.

Formerly known as Gardenia Resort now managed with 4 other resorts as part of Bourbon Street Hotels / Resorts.

Now called "The Pure Oasis" this place has the location that you want. Walk across the street to all the action of Negril's famous Seven Mile Beach. Its located on Norman Manley Boulevard where there are many shops and restaurants to walk to. Many of the suites have kitchenettes in the rooms so be sure to clarify what you're paying for. The rooms are each different so it can be a little tricky getting a nice one. Don't be scared to room shop when you arrive. The staff are excellent and personable. The place is older but for the most part pretty clean. Its basic accommodation for a pretty good price especially considering what people are paying for across the street at the all inclusive hotels like Couples or Beaches.

This place is a nice mix of local Jamaicans, expats and tourists from all over. This is the real Jamaica.

Should you be lucky enough to get a suite with a kitchenette be sure to support the local merchants and nearby vegetable fruit sellers. There is no welfare / social assistance system in Jamaica so if they don't make money they don't eat. Its as simple as that.

One such person is the Rasta Man called Bobo – right next door to the Public House Restaurant. He's a kind hearted soul that won't overcharge you cause you're a tourist. Often times he has rare fruits that aren't found in stores like the June Plum. We'd never had one and its amazing. Like a cross between a Mango and a pineapple. Wow. He gave us all sorts of samples to try. Bobo also will make sure you're getting nice ripe ready to eat fruit. We often eat salads and Bobo will bring in lettuce, tomatoes and the like. We bought from other vendors and he was the best for quality produce. Get him to cut a fresh coconut for you. Can't say enough good about this man.

Lastly there's even a convenience store nearby called Bev's. They've got everything you need at pretty good prices. Everything you need is within walking distance.

Note: Their website seems to be wonky. Last time I looked it showed no vacancies regardless of time of year Would probably best to email them.

The staff is very nice and helpful.. Some rooms are four walls and 2 beds. We moved to a kitchenette after the first day.I called hotel direct and talked them down and paid in Jamaican when I got there.
The pool was OK. and a little pool in the back and restaurant was never busy.
The kitchenette was bigger and full kitchen. This hotel just passes as they need to face lift very soon. Lower the price and keep it full and raise the price when you use the money to paint the place and fix the bathrooms one room at a time. A beautiful property nice fruit trees. not 5 star resort, would go again but for a better price, shop around this is the last resort full.

Room tip: Closer to the front is better I think .

This is a great hotel to stay at if you just need a basic clean place to stay. The airconditioning works great. They have a pool and great breakfast in the morning was included when I stayed there. It is right across the street from the beach. litterally a 30 second walk. There is also a convenience store right beside the hotel. There is security at front gates 24/7.

Room tip: I prefer a room close to the lobby because I am in and out and its less walking :)

The staff was attentive or shall i say accommodating to our every need, which made our stay a pleasant one. Our room was clean with plenty of hot water. Flat screen TV, if you have time to watch it.

The room had screens on the windows, air conditioning, a comfortable bed and with fresh bed linen and towels provided. We stayed 5 days and our room was cleaned, towels changed 3 times or more.

Unfortunately we didn't have a safe or fridge in our room, but management did try to provide a fridge for us. The room we stayed in could do with renovating i.e. redecoration and upgrade in furnishings, but no big deal as i only intended to use it to rest my head.

The wifi is free, however the signal is a bit hit and miss depending how close your room is to reception. However, there is a nice comfortable lobby area, where you can sit comfortable and get a stronger signal of the wifi if needed.

I would like to thank the staff/ management at Gardenia Resort for all the care and attention they gave us (Julia & Andre), as i felt we found the perfect hotel to reside at.

As two women travelers, we felt safe on the resort, not forgetting to mention there is the added benefit of 24hr security on site.

It not a fancy resort, but a good clean place to stay if your on a budget. So do not expect It to be a luxurious resort. However they were currently renovating rooms and in the process of opening a convenient store on the grounds. So looking forward to seeing the changes when i next return.

We didn't use the pool as the hotel is located just across the road from the 7 mile beach. The hotel is also walking distance to few restaurants, and convenient stores.

We didn't eat at the hotel, as we were out every day, so sadly could not provide a comment on the food available.

Please note the staff are kindhearted and friendly so should you choose to stay at Gardenia Resort, they will bend over backwards to make your stay a comfortable one.

Room tip: Ask at reception to view the room before you decide to check in.
