An Great location for an affordable holiday on this beautiful Caribbean island.

Reviewed Aug 12, 2021via mobile
If you want to holiday in Antigua but don't want to pay eye-watering prices then this place is perfect.
You get a personal and intimate service from great staff who work so hard and cannot do enough for you to make your holiday experience special. Too many staff to mention by name but friendly faces greeting you everyday at reception, bar, restaurant and in the grounds of this compact hotel.
Setting is really pretty with all rooms overlooking the large pool and some also overlooking the sea.
Two small beaches with beds and shade. During our week we never failed to find a bed by the beach or pool.
There's not a great expanse of sand but enough to enjoy sun followed by a cooling float in the clear waters.
Our room on 3rd floor was big and airy with balcony, comfy bed, good shower and large fridge. Room was cleaned every day during our stay.
Food was very good and service in the only restaurant was attentive. The choices are limited and fussy eaters may struggle but you've only got to ask and the kitchen will do their best to rustle up another option. It feels nicer being served at breakfast lunch and dinner rather than battling through a busy buffet but by the end of our week we ate out a couple of times to experience some variety and more local cuisine. Breakfast was ample but felt a bit samey. As for the dining setting you couldn't ask for a much better view to look up at from your table.
As for drinks I had all the beer, cocktails and spirits needed but my wife struggled with the occasional lack of soft drink options. No big deal as we picked up cans from the local supermarket.
Nothing really here in terms of hotel entertainment just music played at the relatively small bar area but there's a good vibe and a chance to chill, make new friends or just watch the pelicans fly by.
We didn't walk anywhere from hotel although there's a supermarket within 2km but we did hire a car twice during our stay. This was sorted out easily through reception. Visited most of this beautiful island including many of the stunning beaches. We would return in a heartbeat.

It is a really nice hotel .
Friendly staff , great food , good drinks , nice swimming pool , absolutely amazing location , nice beach and very good value for the money .

We booked ocean point as an all inclusive holiday with British airways and flew from london .

Arrival :
The hotel is close to the airport , we didn’t book transfer in advance but it was very easy and quick to get a taxi at the airport which charged us $20 to take us to ocean point hotel .

The check in process was very pleasant , they welcomed us with Rum punch and smile and explained everything we needed to know .

Room :
We booked the cheapest room and didn’t pay extra for ocean view room , however we were given a beautiful ocean view room on the first floor .
The room was nice and clean , comfy bed and mattress , clean bathroom beautiful balcony with chairs and table and we had everything we needed in our room .

Pool :
The pool is massive , nice and clean , they clean it everyday just like they clean everything else daily and you can use it 24 hours a day .
Lots of sun loungers around the pool , shower etc .
There are also some comfy sofas near the pool to relax and enjoy the pool and ocean .

Reception:

The receptionists are always extremely helpful and friendly .
There are comfy sofa in the reception area with a nice coffee machine and cold drinking water .

There are also toilets in the reception area .

Beach bar and restaurant :

The bar is open from 10 am until 11 pm and they make you pretty much any drink you like and give it to you with smile , the bar is located on the beach right next to the main restaurant.

Breakfast , lunch an dinner is served at the restaurant, because of COVID they have a small menu which you can choose from but the food is different everyday and they keep it interesting.
I loved the food , it was really tasty and the service was really good too , the waiters were good at their job very friendly and do all their best for guest to have a good time .

The bar and restaurant are really pretty , the food taste so much better when you are eating right on the beach and watching the Caribbean ocean .

Overall I really recommend ocean point , we are still here and we are having a great time , Antigua is like a peace of heaven , it’s so beautiful and we are very happy that we chose ocean point as our hotel .

Expectations were exceeded, based on the website and after reading many reviews.

Room was amazing, I honestly couldn't fault it - a view through coconut palms on to the Caribbean Sea, huge double bed, big fridge to store drinks, big bathroom, high ceiling - and most importantly for me, all clean!

The hotel is attractive, with lots of effort going into the maintenance of the various plant gardens including coconut trees, banana plants and other tropical vegetation which makes the general scenery beautiful. The building is low rise and tastefully positioned to not interfere with the panorama of the coast. Corridors and layout are airy and bright, highly photogenic.

Staff is good, they served me and my partner well, though on a few occasions I did feel they might be being overworked. I don't know for sure of course, but as I was there for two weeks I think I counted that many of them had worked every single day, often dawn till late at night. I hope they get well earned time off/good pay. Some went out of their way to supply me and my partner with home grown mangoes, pineapples and other fruits, which was really appreciated.

Food was a winner and consistently delicious! A tip for some of the negative reviewers complaining about the hotel's predominantly Italian/ Asian inspired food - if you'd have read the website and menu beforehand, this wouldn't come as a surprise or shock. I too would have liked more Antiguan and Caribbean food, but since I chose to come to this hotel I can't exactly complain. We did tell staff and management that it would be nice to have more local fruits and foods on offer - this feedback was kindly received. I guess they have to accommodate the tastes of thousands of people from different countries, so the food on offer is perhaps the most convenient for them to serve.

Drinks were top notch. Good rum, good beer, and on the few occasions I had cocktails, these were also fantastic. On a handful of afternoons the bar was not manned consistently, but since I was so relaxed and happy from my stay I couldn't really be that irritated - staff are always nearby to talk to and ask for help at the bar.

The hotel beaches are attractive, especially the smaller one. It felt like a dream to swim out in the warm water and look back at it, with all the coconut trees swaying in the breeze and the sand and bar next door looking so inviting. As a keen swimmer I went out further and noticed to my delight that there is a fair amount of well developed coral, not 50 yards/meters from the beach! Sunken cannon too, very cool.

Water machine was a life saver in the lobby - we must have had 5 litres each a day - bring re-usable water bottles from home and fill them up. Also means you're able to handle more of the booze!

Antigua is a delight and we saw virtually all of it - the hotel lobby is your likely best and most affordable bet for doing the various tours and boat trips - shopping around online didn't yield any better value results, so you can relax about that. If you do want to go somewhere specific and not part of a tour, be mentally prepared to really fork out big wads of cash for taxis - they are expensive. A destination on the other side of the island (never more than 40 minutes drive one way) costs around US 80-90$ for return, a shock. We joked that if you want to become rich quick, become a taxi driver on Antigua - you could easily make a grand in a day. Nothing to do with the hotel though, just a warning for traveling the island overall. We did walk around much of the north island where possible, and even took a bus (US 1$) from St John's which was great value, but there doesn't seem to be an established bus timetable.

Value of the hotel by Antiguan standards is apparently unbeatable. The island is considered a high end getaway, so good luck finding better bang for your buck. I saw neighbouring hotels with a price tag often double or triple what we paid, despite not really offering much more - would they be double or triple as good, even 20% better? - I highly doubt it. Unless I was a literal millionaire I wouldn't look elsewhere, nothing angers me more than bad value.

I can only recommend this hotel.

My friend and I had the most amazing time in Antigua and a lot of it was down to the incredible and hard working staff at Ocean Point. It was so lovely so speak to the staff on a daily basis. Special mention to Nick, Vincent, Tara, Donella and Mr B. All were super friendly, helpful and fun! The resort’s pool is huge and the garden area is beautiful. The hotel is only a ten minute ride from the airport and staff were helpful in advising us on the beaches / places we should visit. Overall a very pleasant stay and would definitely come back to this resort. We also loved the food!

We had the most amazing stay thanks to the most warm and welcoming staff at Ocean Point who made this an unforgettable experience for us. Nick, Tara, Donella, Vincent and Mr B in particular, thank you for the most wonderful time on such a charming island!

We opted for the all inclusive deal which did not disappoint - gorgeous meals and drinks that were to die for (best fruit punch on the island out here)!

The pool, the beaches, the bar, the rooms, the overall ambience of this beautiful resort is one of a kind. We look forward to booking/ seeing everyone again soon!

Antigua itself seemingly caters to tourism thus it has lost all of it's Caribbean attributes. This hotel further contributes to the gentrification of the island - the only reason i did not check out on the first night was because of the staff. The staff was extremely friendly, joyful and beyond helpful! I asked them for advice on places to eat, see and things to do - all of their advise was golden. They all need a raise because if it wasn't for them, this "resort" would very much be a DUMP.

I did inquire with Rossana Ferrari about COVID tests, transportation and a few other things - she was extremely responsive and helpful. Once again - AMAZING STAFF.

The Room:
Someone, please ... explain to me why the curtains and the bedspread are the same? The duvet that's given for you to sleep with feels like sandpaper. The hot-water is sometimeish but I was born in Guyana so that's normal to me. Wifi is sporadic.

The Pool:
There's water - that's all I can say. Its clear the owners have invested no time and effort into this area.

The Drinks:
Honestly, very good. But for an all inclusive resort - i felt like i was going out of my way each time to get a drink whereas in other places, before I finished one - two more were infront of me!

The Food:
A complete shhhhhhhh it show. Why does an island in the Caribbean have European cuisine? Please help me understand why they were only 3-4 options for meals. Outside of the very limited food window, we were given cookies, wraps and other Hors d'oeuvres. The food was so bad that I asked if i could cook my own meals. It was clear that the ingredients were present but those cooking the meals had no idea what to do or should I say those planning the meals had no idea what to do?
The food was such a slap in the face that I ventured out - to st.johns's because there is NO WHERE ELSE TO EAT AROUND THIS JOKE OF A RESORT-. I came back with fried rice from New Thriving - if you're Caribbean you know what it's abouts! I was then told I couldn't eat in my room and they refused to give me plates / utensils. I protested and said I would stay in the Lobby or near the pool but for you to not give me plates or utensils is extremely inconsiderate.
The one night I actually did eat on the premises, I threw up everything once I got back to my room. I had some sort of pesto pasta dish - again .. pesto pasta on an Island? in the Caribbean? At least make it cheese based with some seasoning - If you need advice on Caribbean cuisine - I WILL HAPPILY ASSIST BECAUSE THIS MENU IS A JOKE.

The Music:
TRASH. Complete TRASH. Why am I on an island listening to 80s 90s pop? I want to hear soca, reggae, calypso. This was a complete slap in the face to tourism. Disgusting and disrespectful. They actually did have a DJ one night and he was great - but besides that, don't expect anything but slow distasteful music.

To the owners - your staff is the only reason i enjoyed my stay - all beautiful warm hearted people - totally worth the conversations I had! If you plan on lounging around the premises - please greet your guest and ask them what you can improve on.

It seems like nothing is being invested into this resort and the owners don't at all care as long as they have their room and food that they like and music that they like - YUPP I SAW YOU EATING SOUP WHEN IT WAS 90 DEGREES WHILST LISTENING TO THAT PATHETIC 80s JAM SESSION!

Overall - would not recommend. You couldn't pay me to stay in this hell again.
