Excellent soup and sandwich for lunch!

Came her for lunch with my wife and we ordered the cream of mushroom soup and a BLT with the house salad/vinaigrette. We were told our order would take about 20 minutes, as it was busy, so we enjoyed the view of Quadra Island by our window seating. Seating is limited with social distancing restrictions, but Java Shack has managed to set up hanging dividers between tables and booths for about 7-8 large eating sections along with outdoor seating. The cream of mushroom was delightful and light, full of mushrooms. Every spoonful had a bite of mushroom. A nice surprise for soup! My wife enjoyed the beautiful salad with her BLT. The salad had a nice mix of greens and arugula with strips of beets and carrots and topped with feta and beans. The BLT had the usual expected taste, but what made this different was the texture profile - with a soft bun cradling a nice crunch with each bite. We really enjoyed this one. Will definitely be back.

Nice casual place with good sandwiches

This place was recommended by our hotel and we were warned the sandwiches are large. So, we shared a vegetable sandwich and my spouse had the cheeky monkey and I had a coffee. The sandwiches are large and I am glad we shared. Else, dinner would have been impacted. The sandwich was made with fresh vegetables and tasty. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. That is why we got the cheeky monkey.

Hubby and I had a delicious lunch. Roasted chicken, avocado, "sandwich" without the bread as they did not have GF. I did not miss the bread. Excellent salad with home made tahini dressing. Hubby had pulled pork sandwich special. You can tell they take pride in well crafted food. Wait was about forty minutes for the food but worth it.

Rude slow service

OK breakfast sandwich but APPALLING SERVICE. Under good conditions they are slow. I was in recently and the server said it would be half an hour wait for a breakfast sandwich, There were 4 other people in the restaurant at the time. I simply asked "why the half hour wait?". She was highly indignant that I even asked. I pointed out the almost total lack of customers whereupon she requested that I leave, which I happily did.

Inexcusably slow

Went for an early lunch on April 29. Arrived at 1110. Unable to order the Big Roasted Veg salad because it was not yet noon. So we both ordered the grilled cheese and an iced coffee, paid and took a seat. There were five other tables all with two people except for one of four. Ten minutes later I got up to check on our coffee, not having heard it called. One customer was just handed a "to go" cup and the clerk picked up her own coffee turned toward the doorway into the back and began talking to the other front counter clerk. She asked if she could help me. I asked about the iced coffees. "Didn't I make those already?" She soon delivered them to the table. Jumping ahead. At about 1145 i asked about the sandwiches. I was told the cheese takes longer to melt.There were two people working in the kitchen. I heard someone in the kitchen say they were out of bread and would have to use wraps. Minutes after 1200, the sandwiches arrived. While eating, my friend asked how long for two salads to go...30 minutes. As we were leaving, a voice in the kitchen said they were out of lettuce. Everything I've ever eaten here has been delicious! I've come to expect slow service. However, we went early so my friend could get back to work. This was inexcusably slow. I will be looking at alternatives in Campbell River

Watch out here we had a couple of grilled cheese sandwiches a coffee and and an ice tea . Sandwich was ok nothing special cost for the lunch over $41.00 dollars with a small tip $45.00 . This was the special of the day and was not priced on the message board . My opinion out to lunch won't be back.

Always great!

I visit the Shack every time I go to Campbell River. It's great to have a cup of their wonderful coffee while watching the Quadra Island ferry come and go. Breakfast is amazing, I had the wrap, delicious.

A must stop place

Got a great coffee and a freshly baked muffin .... and the best breakfast sandwich with avocado. I love to support a small business especially when they put a high quality product like this. Great job!

Very unprofessional when replying to messages asking about sandwich prices

I simply asked for some prices for menu items and got lipped off by them. I have photo proof. Just unkind and unprofessional. Will not be returning.

Very hansy spot for the Quadra Ferry.

Just opposite the Quadra ferry terminal is the Java Shack, just at the back of the Tyee shopping Centre and facing the ocean on the eastside. It’s clearly a favourite haunt of the locals as we were in at lunchtime and breakfast and it was all locals. The food is very good. Sandwiches take a bit of time, but they are fresh, light and clearly made to order. Coffee is "proper coffee" - full roasted, full bodied and designed to raise the dead - much better than the insipid stuff Starbucks serves up. My wife had a bagel and eggs and really enjoyed it. My breakfast bagel with scrambled egg, bacon and cheese was lovely. The staff were very helpful, friendly and responsive. As tourists, it was obvious we weren't locals, but they were great. I'd recommend breakfast or lunch - they know their clientele and serve good food.

Young impolite new staff

Used to have wonderful customer service and good experience here , this summer they have a new dark haired girl working and have never been so distraught about the way she spoke to us like we were stupid , nor did she not no anything we asked she only stared at us blankly and said “I don’t know”

Great for Breakfast and Lunch

This is a "select, pay, and wait for your food at your table" kinda place. No service to speak of, BUT, the food is fresh and great, albeit selection is limited. A surprise is that the breakfast is very well done, and service is quick. For a quick bite, you can only do worse elsewhere. Lunch is best with a bit more time, the kitchen can be slow during lunch hour, so be there before noon and you will be OK. Arrive at 12:15 and you will have a bit of a wait for the food to appear on your table.
