I am quite surprised at the negative reviews because my stay at the Inn in August was quite pleasant indeed.

I stayed in room 6 for three days and two nights on a mini-vacation with my father.  My sister had recently purchased property in the area and the purpose of our visit was to explore the many finger-lakes by boat.  We conveniently found a nice boat launch "around the corner" down the road from the Inn, which was perfect for our boat exploration.

Ash Grove Inn is a roadside motel with an adjoining restaurant.

The staff at both the motel and restaurant were very friendly and courteous.  Check-in was a breeze.  Our room was freshly painted, clean, and had various amenities:  Two very comfortable beds with quality linens, dresser, desk, television, end tables, chairs, mini refrigerator, microwave, air conditioning (and heater), and the bathroom offered shampoo, conditioner, and soap.  On the desk was various pamphlets of information including free wifi login and the restaurant menu.

The restaurant offered breakfast, starting at 8am, as well as lunch and dinner.  The restaurant seems very popular and I would recommend making reservations.  The menu had a good variety of options, delish desserts and a selection of alcoholic beverages.  Even though they told that they were understaffed, we received our meals quickly.  Portion sizes were large and we arrived with appetites!

The restaurant is located on the shores of the Madawaska River directly across from "Mask Island" and they offer "dock & dine" for their customers arriving by boat.

Outside our room we had two private chairs and a table where we sat in the evenings reading and relaxing.  The view of the lake from our room, and from the outdoor dining area, was serene. In the evenings we enjoyed the beautiful sunsets.

For a roadside motel and restaurant, I whole heartily recommend this place and give this review.

On July 15th I rented a double room for the night . Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. The staff went the extra mile to please. So very pleasant. I had visit from 2 sisters & husbands. Lunch was ordered and was enjoyed by all. Spent a couple of hrs. at beach. Back to unit had lots of laughs and stories. We ordered dinner approx. 7:PM. Dinner was amazing. Done to perfection. Company had to leave by 9:PM. Back to Pembroke. We wished we had another day to spend here. Thanks to ALL the staff. Great bunch of people. Let's not forget the BEAUTIFUL view. I am working on my next visit this summer.

I was in the area for work and spent the night at the Ash Grove Inn , check in was fast and easy , took about 3 or 4 mins . I stayed in what they refer to as a standard room , it was a standard room like most places , 2 queen size beds , tv , larger than normal bar fridge ( which was nice ) , air conditioning , 2 chairs to sit in and read the local newspaper .... ect ect .

The room was clean , the only problem I could really comment on is the toilet had a water leak behind it and rather than fix it , it had some small towels on the floor behind the toilet to soak up the water , not sure how long it had been like that , but it was no big deal and by no means was it a bad leak , seemed to be just a slow leak . Another thing that bugged me was there was no coffee machine in the room , and as a early riser , it would have been nice to have a cup of coffee and watch the sun come up , because the area is beautiful , quite and really peaceful , and the motel over looks a nice lake .

The restaurant doesn't open till 730 am , this is another downer for me , because I need to head out pretty early for work and would have liked to eaten a bit earlier , so I could get my work day underway .

The food i had for breakfast was the hungry mans breakfast , 3 eggs , toast , hashbrowns , sausage , ham and bacon , it was good , cant complain .

All in all , I would recommend staying here , the price is right , service is great and it is a good place to stay .

Relate customers over the past 8 years. This place used to be a hidden gem but since ownership change it has lost its title. Food, accommodation, service never had to be questioned. My wife and I used to book yearly for our anniversary and stayed at other occasions throughout the season. Our last experience was awful, filthy room with no toiletries and after six unanswered requests for soap and shampoo we went into town and purchased them. We had reservations for dinner and after showing up on time we were told the restaurant was full and would have to wait a half hour to an hour. We managed to look at their reservations book and they had twice as many names as available tables. We booked reservations for breakfast but after seeing the reservation book we decided to show up early because again they had twice as many reservations as tables. As we ate our breakfast a large crowd developed outside all expecting availability at the same time… lesson leaned to trust your instincts, we did and will never return.

My sister stayed here last month while she was visiting me in Barry's Bay, and this place is HORRIBLE. Not what it used to be, and the management is appalling. We had dinner there one of the days, and I have to say, that while the food was mediocre at best, the wait staff were very nice. The food was way over priced for what it was, and the portions have definitely decreased since the new management took over. Would not recommend and neither myself nor my sister will be staying here again.

My girlfriend and I wanted to spend a romantic weekend in their luxury suite. When I called to book a room they told me they are NOT pet friendly even though every where you look on line it says they are. Needless to say we cannot stay here as we have a small daschund mix. Very dissapointing.

We had a family event in Barry’s Bay, this motel was one of a few recommended. When I called to reserve all they had left was a suite so we booked that. The room was definitely in need of a good cleaning. Dead mosquitoes laid on the window sill, mould was growing on the floor board next to the shower and the towels need to be replaced. Our one night stay cost almost $200. I understand this business is under new management…beware

We rented the deluxe suite. The bed was so uncomfortable. The free wifi password did not work. When we arrived we made a reservation for dinner and it’s a good thing we did because it was busy although I don’t know why. We ordered the blackened pickerel & were told it would be a long wait. Unsure why as fish doesn’t take long. When we finally did get our meal the fish and potatoes were incredibly salty!!! Menu said fresh vegetables but they were frozen green beans and carrots. When we told the server she just asked us “what do you want me to do about it?” We were presented with the bill. I couldn’t believe it. It was truly inedible. We will NEVER go back. On our way home we had the good fortune to run into the previous owner. I told him our experience and he said “that’s what he’s heard too”.

Took nearly 50 minutes to get our terrible food. Not the same ash grove as before that’s for sure. The new owners have changed everything that once was desirable there. The new deep fried cheese curds are frozen and many did not even have cheese in them. $15 for my husbands chicken fingers and fries which was equivalent in size to a kids size. Terrible food and service. We will not return. Oh and watch your bills—they advertise one price and charge another! Sorry to say the good ole Ash Grove is gone—go to the Balmoral instead!

I would not recommend the Ash Grove Inn Motel, the rooms were dirty and there was mold in the shower. TV did not work and the front desk would not pick up the phone. I would never recommend this place. I believe it changed ownership recently. Way overpriced. Had to book a suite as we were told that was all that was available????? Do not book a room here.
