Horseshoe Resort emerges as a property with a charming atmosphere and a prime location favored by guests for its proximity to skiing and spa facilities. However, the resort has received mixed reviews regarding its amenities, with praise for the plethora of activities but criticism over additional costs and the need for updates. While some guests have had comfortable room experiences, many call for renovations and raise cleanliness concerns. Service quality varies, with accounts of both friendly and less accommodating staff. Travelers often question the value for the price, suggesting the need for improvement.

Overall, the staff were stellar and very helpful. If staying at the "equipped kitchen" one bedroom condos, be prepared to pack everything that you require in a kitchen to cook an actual meal (salt, pepper, pasta strainer, mixing bowl, tongs, etc) Also, bring your own coffee maker, mugs, coffee, sugar, etc. The furniture is cheap IKEA style and not well put together or comfortable. Two out of four dining chairs had wonky legs and were unusable. Ask for extra towels at check in or you will only get 2 bath towels, 1 facecloth, and 1 handtowel to share (ewe). Overall, a satisfying stay if you are only staying one night.

My partner and I are both essential workers and wanted a night away to rejuvenate ourselves. Horseshoe advertised rooms available with large rainfall showers and soaker tubs so we gave them a call. We learned that they had a loft suite available for about $20 more than the standard rooms cost so we paid the extra as we felt we deserved the best of the best. When we called, we explained we wanted to ensure we would have use of their amenities. They explained their pool and hot tub were open during the pandemic but 10 people permitted at a time and we must see the front desk before entering the pool area. We booked our stay the same day we were staying.

We arrived and all was well, it was a clean hotel with friendly staff and organized check in. We checked in early because our room was ready. The room was spectacular aside from a lot of minor fix ups needed. (paint chipping from stairwell, cushions ripped, broken shutters, cobwebs).

We ate at Crazy Horse for dinner. Extremely expensive. $56 for chicken fingers a wrap and iced tea. The service was excellent and we did appreciate it was a resort.

Our information package outlined that majority of the things to do required reservations due to COVID and the policies put in place as a result of it. We respect that as essential workers but I am disappointed that you miss out on a lot that you pay for (resort fees) when you book and stay on the same day. We tried to use the pool facilities but were told it is by reservation only and they were booked full for the night. Why charge us to use the pool then? Why not make it 10 people at a time allowed on a 1/2 hour time limit to allow everyone an opportunity to use the pool? Especially those booking on the same day, and ESSENTIAL WORKERS.

I feel for a resort they should have offered better.

Just a quick overnighter with my partner on a Monday night. Overall, the hotel was fine. It is showing its age a bit, but was fairly clean and well maintained. My partner and I used the Spa at the hotel on the afternoon of check in. There was a group in ahead of us, but the staff at the spa had failed to clean up any of this groups garbage/belongings. The reception/waiting area was disgusting. There were food containers and backpacks all over the seating, so my partner and I only had a small little space to sit. As well, the table and any other horizontal space in the waiting area was absolutely packed with half consumed glasses, water bottles and cups of coffee. This was to the point that there was no place to put another glass at all. In fact the table was so filled that cups were over hanging the edge and I knocked one over and spilled cold coffee all over my legs. The staff were apologetic, but if there are large groups someone really should clean up and remove garage every few minutes. Once inside the room, the massage therapists were very good and the massage was nice.

Upon returning to our room, we stopped by the front desk to inquire about making reservations at the Eleven01 restaurant in the hotel. Unfortunately, I guess this particular restaurant is not open on Monday nights. This would have been a very nice thing to know at the time the reservation was made, as we would have changed which day we stayed there. Due to this closure, we were forced to go across the road the Crazy Horse restaurant, which just basically serves very over priced chain restaurant/bar food. The restaurant was maybe at 20% capacity, but the service from our particular server was horrifically slow. It took what felt like 10 minutes to get a beer and martini. The food again was super slow to arrive and the taste/quality was very underwhelming. My partner asked the server if malt vinegar was available for her fries. The server acted like she had no idea what malt vinegar was, so we had to tell her that it is the brown coloured stuff. She said that she would check. 20 minutes later she walks by our table and said "oh yeah, I checked, but we don't have that type of vinegar" Thanks Tips...a bit too late considering the fries were 75% eaten by then. To top it all off, we had finished our meal and drinks and the server never came back to ask us if we wanted more drinks or dessert. Another, server had to get our bill. Much more to comment on, but no more space.

2 families stayed together in one condo (6 of us, 3 kids 3 adults) for a mini vacation. It was a great way to get together and have lots of space for the kids to play and we could feed them easily and without over budget items like at a restaurant. There was a washer and a dryer, which was great for wet outdoor clothes and bathing suits. The kitchen was ok for stocked items for common cooking. They provided us with 3 keys, and the parking was good. We unfortunately were there during a 3.5 hour power outtage due to the ice storm, but they did the best to get the walk ways salted and safe.
I did find a few things missing that would make the stay better, like a lamp in the bedroom with 2 twin beds, a stool for little kids to reach the sinks would be great, we were only given 2 dishwasher pods but in a communal setting obviously you need to Dishwasher all items to get the heat on them, there was no hand towels and only 2 facecloths for us all (and they knew it was a group of 6). We also only had 4 pieces of paper towel provided and no extra roll anywhere, and no cleaning solution to wipe down surfaces. There was also no little sign indicating who to call if there were any problems or issues or missing items, and there was no front desk in the condo building it was across the street at the main hotel. The few little extras can go a long way to pushing this option to amazing from not to shabby, especially with the price point. Overall it was a great way to get families together, and if it had not been during a power outage we would have really enjoyed the outdoor activities.

Hotel check in was two hours late and staff can not provide any estimation how long it would take so we had to just wait. It took 3 hours to get room cleaning service on a following day. It is clear to us that not enough cleaning staff working to meet the basic room cleaning requests and tasks.
Some restaurant staff was very disorganized and rude. We were served with food after a long wait without any utensils on the table, no drink refill through out the meal. Very slow in responding for getting the check and takeout box. Staff was rude when we asked for anything.

We have stayed at the resort several times before. Never had a problem. However, in January 2020 at the end of our stay we left a Fit-Bit watch on the night table near the alarm clock. (The app confirmed the last known location of the watch).
We noticed it several hours later while still skiing. I went back inside the hotel and asked for access to the room to retrieve it. The room was already cleaned and the watch was gone. No one has seen it or turned it over to the lost and found. Subsequent phone inquiries to the management of the cleaning staff were met with negative results as well.
This is very sand and unfortunate as we enjoyed our previous stays and we even brought our family and friends to the resort. This will change as we will now be looking at their competition from now on for ski and stay vacations.

The Valley Slopeside condos while having undergone an impressive update in 2018 lose there luster when you see the level of cleaning that goes into them between occupants. The floors were dirty with salt and not washed, patio doors were covered with fingerprints and food from children, there was dried food stains on the table, chairs & counter top and finally, you can clearly see that the furniture is never moved around for cleaning under. We booked a week in this unit and spent 3/4 of a day cleaning it with cleaning supplies we went and bought at the nearby Foodland so our family could spend the week in the unit. These units should get special attention in between guests as they are two bedroom, kitchen, dining, & living room units that need proper cleaning as they are designed for family's. I also firmly believe for only being 2 years remodeled that the master bedroom mattress should have held up better. There was definite rutting in the mattress and for someone with back issues we were forced to sleep across the bed a couple of nights and then just reserve ourselves to sleeping on the couch & chair for more support.

The management has made a lot of positive changes for the resort that reflect in many aspects but this oversight and sloppiness when it comes to the rooms should be addressed as soon as possible.

Anniversary Golf stay and play was unfortunately not up to par. We paid for their best accommodation the loft suite and found furniture in room in very poor condition. We had to drape a extra bed sheet over couch to let us sit on it as it was so terribly stained / dirty. The ceiling fan had in the very least a 1/2” of dust on all blades and upper loft windows had cobwebs all over them.
Room itself was nice layout, a bit dated but nice view of 9th hole.
As for food, with Covid restrictions we had no choice but to order in room service. Not a big deal, however it could have been delivered/ presented with proper plates and cutlery as opposed to plastic utensils and car ours containers. Not an easy task for a plastic knife to cut a 10oz NY sirloin.
I typically don’t leave reviews good or bad as we always have fun no matter where we go, however this left us feeling ripped off for what we had paid to stay there.

We are two families of three (4 teenagers and 2 moms). First we went to Crazy Horse for dinner. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and water for the kids. They said they don’t serve tap water and you have to buy a bottle of water for each kid at $3.99 each. We left. NO TAP WATER??? Next day we went to golf. We had prebooked times and told them we would need clubs and that it was for teens only and moms would be driving the carts. They said they could rent us clubs for $30 and they had 3 sets. We said we would take 2 sets and we said fine and then they looked us over and decided we weren’t worthy of them. Not sure if it was due to age or ethnicity but they turned us away. We had called ahead and asked for clubs, we told them the ages and yet they turned us away. One particular man was especially rude - older thin man was horrible. He looked to be in charge and was the one that said no to us. We couldn’t play. We then went to check out the bike rentals and the prices are outrageous. Over $300 for two teens not including lift tickets. Bring your own bikes if you can. We also booked the pool time (yes you need to book on line in advance) and when kids showed up - it was packed and other people were just walking in with no reservation. The pool guest services person leaves at 6 so it becomes a free for all even though we had reservations. I will say that beside the older man at golf, everyone else was lovely. The front desk and housekeeping people were very nice. There is no wifi at all. None. We could barely even use data as the signal was terrible. All in all, a big disappointment. One of the families left a day early they were so over it. Hope this helps

I booked a last minute overnight ski getaway with my 2 boys (12 & 10) and asked my mother to come along (she doesn't ski). We booked a 1 bdrm with den in the Copeland house as I wanted a kitchen. Check in was easy and lucky for us we were able to get out room early. The entry to Copeland house wasn't obvious from the back parking area (where we were told to go), but we did see someone else use a back door so we just followed them. We found underground parking, but when I drove up to it, doors didn't open, so I assumed it was for the owners only. This is also where the ski storage lockers were discovered (need to bring your own lock) We just left our skis in the car. 1 elevator and a few luggage carts were available. Our room was on the 3rd floor, very minimally decorated (not like the photos online) and the den had only a pull out couch in there. The room we got was a 1 bdrm with den, so I queen (it was a double) and 2 pull out couches. The den like I said was basic, with only a pull out couch. Should just put a bed in there since no one is going to sit on the couch and stare at a blank wall. Two closets in there too. The bathroom is connected to main area and goes around to the master bdrm. It's spacious. We did not use the shower, but it was huge. The master bdrm had what looked like a double bed - the room was very small. You had to walk to the other side of the bed to get the closet door opened, and it would only open a fraction of the way before hitting the bed. Not very ideal. Windows crank open a crack so it was nice to get fresh air. Pull out couch in the living room was so so. I slept on it with my son and as long as I laid on my side, I couldn't feel the bar under the mattress. The fire place pumped out a lot of heat. Good for drying ski boots! The dining table had 4 chairs, however, the table seemed lower than normal height and our legs were hitting the table. The breakfast bar with bar stools was also lower (or the stools were super high) as we had to bend over to eat and our legs barely fit under the counter overhang. The open shelves were useless unless you climbed on the stool to reach them.. If you are a wine drinker, bring your own wine glasses if there are more than 2 of you. as there was only 1 red and 1 white glass. Not many coffee cups either. No ice trays, so we had to get ice from the main hotel, they did send someone over with a plastic bag full for us. sadly it won't allow me to type anymore.

Depends on what beach you'd like. Lake Simcoe, Georgian Bay, one of the small lakes around the area? As mentioned, that involves, driving, parking, taking food & drinks, etc. Or just use the beach they built at the resort.
