Perfect location, right on the (8-sided) Square, this 100+ year old hotel has very spacious rooms, with a fridge, but no coffee maker or microwave. AC was very efficient - and quiet! An unusual and welcome combination. Linens & towels are not new, but we didn't mind, as the large space for a very economical price was a welcome trade-off. Very pleasant staff.

I stayed there in August 2023. The Hotel is centrally located and was attractively priced-. The room was clean, and housekeeping was responsive. My only concern is that I was asked to indicate if I wanted to return same tine next year. I said yes, based on a good experience. The hotel front desk asked me to complete a reservation form for August 2024 I tried twice to get the hotel to confirm the status of my reservation and what the prices would be? Due to their lack of response I have subsequently notified them (twice) to cancel my reservation still no response.

Great central location on the square with many shops & restaurants conveniently nearby. Close to drive to beach, waterfront area. No elevator so not comfortable for anyone with walking or climbing stairs ability. Rooms were very small & very dated style but knew going in that there accommodations were as stated. Had a front of hotel room facing the street, expected it to be noisy with all the pubs/bars nearby but was very reasonably quiet. Room was clean but very dated style & should be upgraded to maintain their standard. Staff on check in were friendly & courteous. Arrived a little early so waited in the pub next door awaiting our check in time period.

We stayed in room 210 and were very disappointed. We checked in with the bartender because the Front Desk was not staffed. The room itself was small and smelled awful! We asked the bartender if we could switch rooms, but he didn’t know what rooms were open or cleaned. We wanted to leave, but he couldn’t adjust our bill, but our credit card was already charged and we would have to come back the next day to ask for a refund. Unfortunately we ended up staying. We turned the air conditioning to max to try to move the air around and cut down on some of the smell. The bathroom was musty and moist and the grout in the shower was moldy. We used our “Provincial Park Comfort Station” skills to keep from touching the walls. The bathroom floor was sticky, as if it was cleaned with the wrong product and it didn’t dry properly. The shower pump was very loud and the sink drained very slowly. The carpet had a discoloured ring where the vacuum just doesn’t reach. The lamp on one side of the bed was broken. There were 2 tvs on one dresser, one in front of the other, and that was just weird. The small desk and chairs looked like they were from a garage sale (not antiqued, just old) and were spread along the wall in a row from the door to the fireplace. None were usable because the room was really small.

The linens and towels were clean. We needed an additional pillow, but didn’t know where to ask.

The continental breakfast was very limited. Bagels and muffins were fresh enough, but one side of the toaster was broken. Peanut butter, cream cheese and raspberry jam (no other flavours) were available. We didn’t try the cereal. Cold drinks were limited to orange juice and milk. There were no alternative dairy options and no water available.

We did run into staff on the morning of our stay, but they did not seem interested in talking. They responding to our “Good morning” and then said “OK” when we checked out.

This hotel has amazing potential but it needs some serious TLC!

I stayed here two years ago and although old, creaky and distinct smells filled the rooms and halls it was fun.
Now I was told there are new owners , the nightly rate has increased significantly and the service is non-existent.
No front desk staff ever, continental breakfast appears to sit unchecked for days (thank goodness there is Tim’s nearby).
The restaurant downstairs made my daughter sick.
Not worth it for even one night.
The 1 star is for location only.

In a recent stay, we came back to the room at 5 o'clock after a day of golf. Even though the make up our room sign was on the door, completely nothing had been done. Our wet towels were still laying on the floor and over the tub in the bathroom, none of the garbage has been emptied, and the beds were not made up. Upon requesting some compensation at checkout, we were told by the manager that we were already on a corporate rate. Therefore, we were not compensated for any of the troubles we experienced.
Another issue is the absence of an elevator. My roommate has a disability and had a very difficult time climbing the stairs to the third-floor.
Finally, the pop machines do not dispense beverages even though you put your money in. Getting your money back from the front desk it's like pulling teeth.

From the exterior, this hotel looks lovely and historic. The location on the main square is ideal. Prices per room are a bargain. Parking is convenient on the street. The food at Paddy’s is quite good and reasonable price wise. The beds are very comfortable. But, the charm ends there. The room smells musty and old. The carpet is worn and dirty. The floors are uneven making it an unusual experience to walk across to the bathroom. To say it needs updating is an understatement. It needs an interior gut job. I feel bad saying this because I fully recognize the historic potential of the place. But this isn’t the place to stay for a romantic weekend or a gathering of friends. It’s just going end up being a disappointment unless you’re price driven. I hope the owners do something major to renovate it because it has a lot of potential.

Awesome location and near to 3 beautiful beaches. Many restaurants and stores nearby. Even all attractions are pretty much surrounding the hotel. Breakfast provided was good and healthy. Would love to come back again. Goderich is indeed the most peaceful city in Ontario, Canada

We arrived at 3:30pm (check-in is 3:00 despite seeing in several spots it is 2:00) and room wasn’t ready. Lady at front desk was friendly. We left and went to the beach, returning at 4:30 and it was ready. The entire place is very dingy. Filthy carpets up the stairs to the room. Once in the room, we weren’t impressed. Clean enough but extremely worn out. Mold along caulking in the bathroom, windows don’t open, door to the room seems very flimsy. Air conditioner worked fine but very loud. Hair dryer didn’t work, just local channels on tv, no way to use a streaming service. Beds were pretty comfy. My main issue was the creepy, scary characters hanging around the front door area and front lobby. We encountered a sketchy man milling around in the hallway outside our room looking suspicious. We didn’t feel very safe to be honest, I strongly considered packing up at 11:00pm and going home as my daughter was crying saying she hated it. We would not return.

From the minute I opened the room door, it was terrible(the smell of death). It's nice and cheap for a reason. Please take my word for it, save your $ and stay somewhere else. Only reason we didn't change rooms is cause the whole town was booked with weddings. Will never return to this place.
