Andaz San Diego boasts a prime location in the Gaslamp Quarter that many travelers find ideal for exploring nearby attractions. However, guests have called out the hotel for its noisy environment, particularly due to street sounds and rooftop festivities. Reviewers frequently criticize the rooms for being outdated and not as clean as expected, with some also pointing out the lack of value given the premium pricing. While the service receives mixed reviews, the rooftop views and lively atmosphere are popular among guests.

Loved the location of this hotel. Right at the heart of the gaslamp district so everything was handy.
Especially liked the rooftop bar and pool. Staff were all super helpful, rooms lovely, the hotel was spotless.

We booked 2 Free Nights here as part of our Hyatt credit card for a family of 4 (a 2 yo and 4mo). When we arrived, the front desk informed us they upgraded us to the Presidential Suite because it seemed we needed more room. My husband thought they were joking! But lo and behold, we had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom suite, with bunk beds in 1, a bar in the suite, and a giant duck in the master bathroom that thoroughly amused my toddler. They had also prepared the crib ahead of time, including a rubber duck, blanket, and baby shampoo. Amazing service!

Location is also great, on the outskirts of the Gaslamp district, walking distance to everything. If you have time, you should check out the Breakfast Republic, an amazing brunch place 2 blocks away.

The rooftop pool is heated which we also enjoyed, and is adjacent to the bar. Drinks are yummy and there's a giant firepit as well. Highly recommend this hotel. While it doesn't appear to be family friendly from the outside, their service is amazing and we felt well cared for.

A really nice hotel in downtown San Diego, rooms were large, clean with the added benefits of free water, sodas and snacks on a daily basis. The hotel is very close to the restaurants and bars but don’t forget to visit the roof to bar and swimming pool. All the staff were helpful, friendly and tried to make sure you had all the information you need for both inside ang outside the hotel

Although the hotel is absolutely acceptable for an overnight stay, it did not live up to typical 4 star standards. Had it been priced similar to area 3 star hotels, I would have given it a higher rating, but overall this was a very average 3.5 star stay. The valet and doormen were very helpful and pleasant and provided a warm welcome, but the room itself smelled of mildew and the bathtub was unusable because of a faulty stopper. Perhaps Covid has made it more difficult to keep up with typical deep cleaning and maintenance procedures? Perhaps. The room itself was well designed and the bed quite comfortable. Although a “quiet” room was requested upon booking, our room faced a busy street, was near another room with a barking dog, and was anything but quiet. I think a different room may have made a big difference, so I wouldn’t write this hotel off completely. Just a bit disappointed considering it’s 4 start rating.

Not real jazzed on the entire event. I spent $140.00 for the roof top event, which was advertised as there being fireworks, there was none. They ran out of the beverages before new years. They did not have any specials for the residents spending over $350 for that night. They should have just ushered hotel guest directly to the roof top event instead of making us go out and wait in line for 30 minutes with people off the street. Once on the roof there was no space for us to sit only people who decided to spend thousands for a private sitting area had a place to be comfortable. Seating was extremely limited, and it was 1st come 1st serve. The Music was terrible hateful rap! On checkout, manager was rude when the gift cards given to me were never used yet the cards are supposed to be good until used, so then they have charged my credit card prior to the manager making any attempt to clear the gift cards provided by Mark McKinnon publisher and owner of San Diego Home / Garden Lifestyles magazine. Mark and I called several times to the manager and left messages. The manager Kristian never returned Mark nor my calls he just charged my credit card. I'm very disappointed in the entire ordeal! What a scam and terrible way to begin a new year let a loan new decade!! I've stayed at Hyatt properties my entire life and this was by far the worst experience of all!!

Escaped LA for Super Bowl Sunday with an overnight stay at the Andaz San Diego. We didn’t have a bad stay, but I likely wouldn’t return.

The hotel is located right in the middle of Downtown San Diego in the historic Gaslamp Quarter and is conveniently around the corner from all the restaurants and entertainment venues on Fifth Street. Ear plugs are provided in acknowledgment of its noisy central Gaslamp location. We got a corner room with windows on 2 sides, but the view on one side was that of a small tent camp… an unfortunate circumstance of being in the middle of any urban downtown I suppose.

The lobby looks nice enough with its trendy modern decor, but as soon as you step out of the elevator the hotel starts to shows its age. Our room had a strong musty smell and the walls, carpet, and furniture looked worn… it felt more motel than hotel and less than what I’d expect from an Andaz property.

After putting our stuff away we went up to The Rooftop for a late lunch. It’s a large open space with ample seating and heat lamps, although they weren’t needed this particular evening since it was 87 degrees outside. Globalist breakfast is also held at The Rooftop and we were told at check in it was one entree and one non-alcoholic drink per person. The food was actually quite good and we enjoyed every dish.

The adjacent rooftop pool is tiny and the lounging areas surrounding it felt claustrophobic. There was barely any space to walk past the lounge chairs… I felt like I was walking on a tightrope not to invade anyone’s personal space or fall into the pool just to get across.

The customer service is pretty good and they offer everyone water and a glass of beer or wine at check in. All the staff were nice and did their best, but it was painfully obvious they were understaffed for a busy weekend.

Overall did not have a terrible stay, but would not return largely because the Manchester Grand Hyatt is only a couple blocks away. As Hyatt loyalists we try to stay at Hyatt properties whenever we can, but both are category 4 and have similar cash rates, so I can’t think of any reason I’d choose the Andaz over the Manchester GH for any future downtown San Diego stays.

Far exceeding my expectations! I have never stayed at an Andaz location before but if the service and standards match the San Diego location, I will continue to use it as my preferred choice. I've always been a fan of Hyatt but this brand caters to a more hip, younger and trendy crowd without cutting corners. From the moment you check in, you are invited to relax with drinks and greeted with a warm welcome. All employees there were awesome, helpful and even though there is some wear and tear on the property, they've kept it very clean, fresh and styled to keep up with the customers. I arrived too early for my room but when I came back to check in, all my bags were already delivered and I loved that thoughtful touch. It was the perfect place for me to recover from my surgery because the beds were so comfortable I never wanted to leave. I thought it would be a loud party town and I would have to pack extra comforts but nothing of the sort. They had everything I could need. I was well rested, relaxed and well taken care of. The fact that pets stay free is alone deserving of 5 stars.

In town for the weekend and chose to treat us to a King Deluxe. The room was comfy and large but lacked the finishing touches of an upgraded experience: No robes or hairdryer, empty minibar, bath products are basic. The room was on the 3rd floor and the street noise on a weekend is quite excessive. Recommend you use the ear plus they provide on the nightstand. Also housekeeping is by request only - important so you don't forget to get clean towels, etc... The pool area is very nice and the restaurant STK has great food. Book ahead, the host staff is not very accommodating for last minute requests.

Hi Tom S, Thank you for staying with us and sharing your experience. With COIVD we had to adjust many items in the guestroom however it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel and we should be getting back to many of our normal amenities. The STK Restaurant in the lobby is not run by the hotel so I will definitely share with their team about the last minute requests, thank you for sharing and I will pass along. Hope to have you back again soon! All the best, MC

We had a wonderful stay in one of the King Deluxe rooms at Andaz San Diego. It felt very safe during Covid and the appropriate precautions were taken to make us feel that way. We particularly enjoyed the proximity to many great socially-distanced restaurant options. The rooftop restaurant/bar was also beautiful and well spread out. We especially enjoyed the care that was taken when reserving the gym and cleanliness precautions taken in between uses.

I hate to lead with the bad news, but here it is: This property is so noisy that they leave complimentary earplugs on the nightstand. I didn't realize when I booked the Andaz that "heart of the Gaslamp District" meant "heart of the loud party zone," so I was not prepared for the external traffic noise plus the noise from the rooftop bar all night.

That said, if you're a night owl or someone who enjoys the raucous party atmosphere, then you'll have no problems with the noise level. For me, on the other hand, the sleep disruption affected my ability to enjoy the rest of my vacation.

I did love the king room with the rainfall shower head. The towels at this property are literally the fluffiest I've ever experienced. Just superb!

The staff were all incredibly friendly, and the food and drinks were excellent. I was a little disappointed at how small the pool area was, with only perhaps 20 loungers. If you want to lie on the pool deck, better get there very early.

The location of the Andaz is great, in terms of being able to walk to the Embarcadero, Little Italy, and other fun areas.

I would recommend the Andaz if, as I said, you're unbothered by noise. Otherwise, maybe choose a taller hotel to rise above the traffic noise or find something located slightly outside the Gaslamp District altogether.

Hello Georgeann, Thank you so much for the question and reaching out. We do have a handful of rooms with the glass shower in them and recently we have added curtains for guests who do want more privacy. When you book your reservation you can also request the hotel to put you in a room without the glass shower and all rooms have the private toilet. Please let me know if you have any questions and we look forward to welcoming you! Sincerely, MC
