Hotel Cubanacan Mojito has earned accolades for its cleanliness and vibrant atmosphere, complete with nightly live music and historic allure. While the rooms are noted as being clean, some guests find them outdated and report inconsistent experiences with amenities. The hotel's service stands out, with staff members receiving commendations for their exceptional attentiveness. However, opinions on the hotel's value are mixed, with some guests feeling the experience doesn't fully justify the cost. Amenities are generally appreciated, especially for family friendliness, though there are remarks about occasional shortages and the need for updates.

Hotel Mojito - 5 star for staff friendliness and service. 5 star for cleanliness; 3 1/2 stars for food and facilities.

i'm just back from a week staying at this Hotel, my second visit. I was impressed that upon my arrive, two of the wait staff remembered me. A welcome I appreciated after a long day, which started at 3 am for a 6 am flight.

This hotel was originally part of the Iberostar chain, however the week prior Iberostar pulled out and it was taken over buy Cubanacan, the state agency. After a hurricane hit Cayo Coco twoyears ago, the place has been restored, the buildings all carried a new paint job, except for one of the alacarte restaurants that was too damaged to repair.

I'm sure the Carona virus played a roll in the sparseness of tourists; only 150 in a 500 room hotel. This did not dampen the enjoyment of the people staying here last week. Of those people, the majority were seniors, many on extended stays, ranging from 10 days, two weeks or longer. Young families made up the rest. I attribute this to the low prices being offered by the tour operators.

The facilities are kept clean, by the dedicated staff, although their is evidence that minor maintenance is not being kept up. I put this down to a systemic problem in the resort industry in Cuba. Their economy is down and maintenance is one of the first things to be cut back. Acute items are attended to immediately, as I witnessed what a friend had an issue with the shaver outlet in her room.

The staff get top marks for friendless and service. Two Waiters in the Lobby Bar, Lixander and Alain were always ther to take drink orders and special greetings. The maids keep the rooms made up and spotless. accomplished in the time I was enjoying the beach or pool.

Facilities were great, not much to appeal to the 20-40 year old set. the peace and quiet of this resort is ideal for people looking for rest and relaxation. There are two pools, a large bi-level pool for families and an adult pool in a quiet area of the grounds. The Beach is wonderful, white sand, mostly small wave activity, shallow water that extends far from the show, with a sandy bottom. Perfect for children and seniors.

Weather was great, hot and sunny until my last day, then overcast with a light rain. Then it is the Atlantic side where weather patterns are not as stable.

All in all, a good, renewing, stay for mee.

My wife and I and another couple visited the Mojito from February 19 - February 26, 2020.

This was my wife's and my second visit (the first was Nov 2008), we were pleasantly surprised by the number of staff that remain from our initial visit in 2008.

Check in was smooth and efficient, the Reception Staff and front of house staff are friendly and very accomodating.

The food service has greatly improved, with a large selection in the Buffet Restaurants in the main lobby, lots of fresh vegetables, salads, fresh baked bread, pastries and some of the best Ice Cream anywhere.

The Pool & Beach Restaurant's serve Burgers, Hot Dogs, Fries, Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwiches and Pizza's from noon - 4 pm. Bring your own Ketchup, Mustard, Relish and HP sauce as the Cuban stuff is not very good!

The food served in the ala carte's is equally as good, and presentation is great.

No matter which restaurant you dine in the Staff are Friendly and approachable and do their best to provide great service.

Life in Cuba is very difficult, the hotel staff struggle in their personal lives due to food and personal hygenine product shortages. Even bar soap, something we all take for granted is in short supply or not of a good quality. Please remember to bring some gifts of Bar Soap, Tooth Brushes, Tooth Paste, Disposable Razors for Men and Women, Nylons etc. Please remember all the Hotel Staff rely on your tips, yes this is an All-Inclusive Hotel, but tipping is optional, and if you receive good or great service please remember to tip your servers, bar staff, maid, gardners, reception staff etc. etc.

I want to specificslly thank:

Roberto at the Beach Bar

Alain at the Lobby Bar

and

Miss Lady our Maid

all of you made our vacation special!

Lastly I want to thank our Friends Mark & Charlene for a great week! looking forward to next years Vacation.

Going to start with the bad:
Hotel is old a bit run down, but mostly everything functions as it should. The biggest downfall was no air conditioning in the buffet. I feel like this needs to be addressed immediately. Every meal was rushed to get out of the sweltering hot environment.

Many of the other small problems can be attributed to it being an older resort, and you're in Cuba, if you're looking for a flawless hotel you won't find it here, but nothing other than the buffet air conditioning affecting our stay enough to mention in a review.

The a la cartes were very understaffed, they could of held a lot more people in them and made it easier to book for the guests. We did 2 a la cartes and for both the place was only 25% full. Because the staff were so short. If more staff were added the place would of been packed and everyone would of been accommodated. BUT the food was amazing and the staff was great.

One of our biggest gripes was Cuban days being cancelled. Normally they have a pig roast, street vendors, and music by the pool. There was none of this. We heard afterwards they had a special buffet but was largely unknown by a lot of guests. Very disappointing point for us.

Now onto the good:

The staff. Not enough can be said for the staff at this resort. They were amazing! Kind, hardworking people that really make mojito come together. The food was acceptable, you never go hungry and can always find something to eat. The beach is top notch. Beautiful white Sandy beaches with lots of open chairs and shade. Roberto at the beach bar makes amazing drinks with what he has available. The pool is in need of a cleaning but we still spent lots of time in it, swim up bar staff was fantastic.

Freddie's cigar bar was incredible. From what I heard he put his own money into the place to fix it up. The building and Freddie himself is top notch. Between the bottles spinning around his head he makes fantastic drinks, and is a super nice guy. If you go to mojito his place is a must see!!

I feel like this resort in its prime would have been incredible, and they are definitely working to fix it back up and return it to its former glory. If you're looking for a cheap and simple trip to a wonderful beach with great staff and good drinks you'll find it here. I personally won't be returning until the resort is in a better state, but I'm not upset about spending a week here.

We visited Mojito after reading all of the rave reviews. However it seems to have gone down hill. I appreciate they are still trying to bounce back from a hurricane but we were somewhat disappointed with our stay.
Let me start by saying the beach and the staff were PHENOMENAL!!! If nothing else go for those two factors. And the cigar lounge is not to be missed!
We were disappointed with the food (exactly the same for every breakfast, and lunches and dinners are the same food served twice a day, again every day). But it's Cuba so go with an open mind.
The second thing we were disappointed with was they canceled Cuba days due to low clientele. A La carts were so understaffed you couldn't reserve and book despite a nearly vacant restaurant. We didn't think it fair to take away from guest experience because they weren't booked as much as they would have liked, as a paying customer I felt that was extremely disappointing.
We won't be returning as much as we wanted to like this place and see it do well. We felt for the staff and were so grateful to have them make our week amazing, and the beach was unbeatable. However, the hotel didn't provide what they should have to the paying customers they had there and we felt short changed overall. If you're going for great staff, a great beach and really care about nothing else this place is great! Overall though I wish they'd done more with the services they did have available, instead of cutting costs and taking away from the experience.

Our room was clean but the bathroom was in need of updating especially the plumbing. The toilet had problems flushing & we had to call a service worker twice to repair. Shower had very poor water pressure & shortage of hot water. This problem couldn't be fixed. Walls and paint on door was chipped off. Stair railing leading to second level was very loose needing some fixing.
The buffet building where we ate our meals was very noisy & tables could have been cleaner. Many flies were annoying while we ate our meals.
Due to Covid, this hotel had become a domestic hotel as 90% were Latinos (Cuban) who were very noisy in the buffet area. They also were rude while waiting in line for certain foods like grilled meats, cooked egg dishes & pasta dishes. They also piled their plates high with desserts & bread products (toast) & butter. There was a shortage of bread and butter at times especially at breakfast so we had to wait a long time for this to get replenished. There was also a shortage of cold meats at times which annoyed my partner.
This hotel was often late in opening for breakfast ( sometimes 30 min to one hour late). It was sometime late opening for lunch & dinner too.
There was only one a la carte restaurant at this resort which offered a quieter dining space. Just wish it could be open for breakfast & lunch too.
The 24 hour snack bar was not available during certain hours. We ordered pizza one day & waited over an hour & it still wasn't ready so we had to go to the buffet.
The music in the main building was often too loud so you couldn't have a nice conversation with your friends at your table.
The alcohol was also short of international whiskey products (no vodka, brandy etc). Even pina colodas were not available every day. The bar servers were great, but when lining up at the bar itself, Cuban people got served first before I got served.
The adult pool was nice but no pool bar in this area.
The internet connection was poor & kept disconnecting depending where you were sitting.
We wore face masks to enter buffet but took them off when seated.
This resort used to be a great vacation spot a few years ago, but sadly has gone down hill since the pandemic. This hotel should be rated a 3-star resort.

My family and I, a family of 4, went and spent a week at this gorgeous hotel, Hotel Mojito. The employees of Mojito are so incredible, they feel like family. Everyone is so loving and makes your stay unforgettable. We had such an amazing time. The lobby speaks for itself in presentation. We stayed in a casita to be more private, with 2 double beds. Everything was so clean, including the presentation of towels on the bed everyday and our maid made sure there was water and soda in our fridge everyday. The buffet had a great selection of food and the cooks were always very nice to us. The highlight was the restaurant, El Malcon, our waiter, Yamin was so nice and the food was absolutely amazing!! The presentation was top notch, best food in Cuba in my opinion. The resort is beautifully set up with three pools, all very clean. Absolute must on the swim up bar, and the entertainment stuff is absolutely amazing! They always had fun games and playing great music. The entertainment staff ensure you are included and are having fun. Thank you, Daya and Jamila, for everything! Daya, in particular was so incredibly sweet during our whole trip and was like family! She is an amazing person! At night, the resort has great music and shows at the disco. We found ourselves at the disco almost every night watching amazing dances performed by incredible dancers. Lastly, the beach was fantastic. White sand and plenty of room with beach chairs. The water is so blue, with crystal clear seashells all over the sand. You definitely have to check it out. We had such a great time at Mojito and we can't wait to book another trip here. We love our new Mojito family!

People will say, its Cuba, what do you expect a 5 star experience? No I don't, ive been to Cuba, stayed in different resorts, and I have to say, the negative reviews are not wrong.
This resort claims to be a 4 star, it's not, it may be able to pass as a 2.5 star.
Listen, Cayo Coco is beautiful, beaches are gorgeous, and I'm sure at one time this particular resort was wonderful.
Now however, its tired. And yes, I'm aware of the hurricane damage.
But when this resort advertises on line/and on the TV screen at front lobby desk with beautiful photos, of the Mojito in obviously earlier years, it's very upsetting to those who go there expecting to see the beautiful, huge resort, only to find it extremely run down, and maybe 1/4 of the resort in use.
They need to upgrade or I can see it being like the one beside it, closed up.
Some staff were great, especially the ones at the beach bar.
Front desk staff, cold and uninviting.
You are told there is a 24hr snack bar, but it's not open 24hrs! What a joke.
You are told there is a kids club, I never once saw any staff in that area. It smells horribly of urine, and is not kept up.
The bar in the Lobby has an awful odor to it, I want to say it smells like sewage.
Outside the main and only buffet, you smell cat urine.
Speaking of the buffet, it is very small and very repetitive, and recycled food.
I am not picky either, and I know not to expect fine dining anywhere in Cuba, but I'm telling you, this was nasty.
You get the feeling they only cater to the long time/repeat guests.
Everyone else, chopped liver.
And if you look on the Facebook Mojito page, you will see most of the great reviews are from those guests.
'Other guests' that try to speak the truth get quickly shot down.
Like I said, I'm sure it was once a fabulous resort in its day, and certainly the hurricane did not help, but seriously, don't waste your money, there are other resorts in Cayo Coco, far better that would be worth your money.

We just got back from our first trip to Cuba and couldn’t have been happier with the Mojito! There are some bad reviews but if your a picky person then why even travel? We knew the food in Cuba wasn’t awesome but we were always able to find something to eat! The grill at the buffet was awesome, had pork chops most nights and they would fry eggs, bacon and omelettes in the morning. You never had to fight for a chair by the pool or beach. We would have lunch everyday at the beach bar and visit with our lifeguard friend, Pablo. We learned a lot about Cuba and the way of life from him! The staff is very nice and helpful, all of the bartenders were very attentive. The lady that worked the customer service desk was always so helpful with any questions I had and would get me the best deals for taxis. The rooms are awesome, so spacious and the beds were very comfy. We loved spending our evenings at freddys bar and having a game of pool, he made the best pina colada’s on the resort! And many nights they had a live band playing in the lobby. We already miss the Mojito and did not want to leave! Oh and the beach is absolutely stunning, they keep it very clean compared to other resorts down the farther on beach. If you want a quiet, not crowded resort with amazing staff, then head to mojito!

This was my first time in Cayo Coco and my bfs first time in Cuba, this resort was amazing and beat all our expectations. He was very worried about the food hearing horror stories but the food was amazing, the a La cart Mediterranean night was out favourite but the others were also very good. The breakfast at the buffet was great omelettes were great and if you were quick enough to grab one the fresh donuts were unreal. For. Snack the fries, ham and cheese sandwiches and pizza at the snack bar are a must. The staff was amazing Alexander at the lobby bar was the first person we met and he was so great he always hooked us up with the best drinks the cafe Español was to die for and the cappuccinos were always a must. The resort is a little old but everything was very clean, we heard from other people on the plane home who were staying in newer resorts that they were not very clean, ours was always spotless. We stayed in the 22 number cottages they were pretty old inside and dark but had a brand new AC which we loved. Everything is very walkable in the resort and you walk over a lagoon to get to the beach and it is beautifully lite at night. The beach is small but very nice Sandy the water was so nice and warm. There is also a cigar bar located in the old part of the hotel that is open 7-11 pm and that is where the premium booze is. Freddy who runs it is the best and makes the most unreal mojitos. The lounge is nice and has a pool table. We will definitely be back again!

As repeat guests to the Mojito, there was no other place my wife and I felt more comfortable bringing our one-year-old daughter for our first family vacation.

We were in contact with the resort staff ahead of our trip, as we heard about some concerns about water pressure and temperature in some buildings, as well as outdoor noise levels at night while the disco was under renovation. Our “usual” block was also undergoing renovations. Our queries were promptly addressed, and we were assured that all needs would be met. We were given a room in a quieter part of the resort, where the music from the nightly festivities wouldn’t wake our daughter, and our water pressure and temperature were great.

Unfortunately, despite requesting a crib in the room, we did not have one waiting for us on our first night and had to co-sleep with the little one. This was, of course, rectified first thing the next morning.

Our mornings usually started with Lixander greeting us in the lobby with a cappuccino and warm smile. The food was on par with other visits. Our daughter was not fussy with the options whatsoever. There was, however, a bit of a gap in food availability between breakfast hours and the availability of fries or sandwiches from the snack bar – we were glad we brought some crackers and puffs for our daughter, as she’d get a little hungry and impatient waiting. During the day, Siadnel’s sandwiches and Roberto’s refreshments at the beach bar really hit the spot.

As always, Freddy’s cigar bar was a highlight of our evenings. He is a true master of his craft, and we always love the warm welcome and great conversation. Freddy is certainly an asset to the resort!

It was nice to have “Cuba Day” again, although it was moved indoors this time due to uncertainty about the weather. It was unfortunate to miss out on the repeat guest dinner this time around, as it took place the night we were departing.

The staff and repeat customers are what keeps us coming back to the Mojito time after time. We can always be sure to meet new vacation friends or bump into other “repeaters”. This vacation we had the pleasure of getting to know Osvaldo, one of the gardeners, a little better.

It was a delight to have lunch with Ariel on our last day to discuss our vacation and hear about some of the ongoing work at the Mojito, like plumbing and other renovation work. There have been many noticeable improvements since our last visit. A special thanks to Yaquelin, who made up our room so beautifully on our last day and made sure we had everything we needed.

Most of the rooms are in 16 room blocks and have a public balcony. There are a few, that are in smaller four room buildings where the upstairs room has a truly private balcony. These are on the left and right edges of the resort. They are quite nice and much more private. Either way, you will not be disappointed at the Mojito. This is the best place I've been to. Have a great vacation.
