Hotel's Favourite
We're a family of four: me, my husband, my 17 year old son and my 16 old daughter, and we were looking for a hotel near Syracuse Regional Transportation Center where we could stay twice, each time as a one night stop between NYC and Ontario and viceversa because we didn't want to spend more than 10 hours on Amtrak from Manhattan to Niagara Falls. Even though Tru By Hilton is located in Liverpool, it is situated off-limits with Syracuse, so we gave it a try.

On July 14, t took us only a 5 minute Lyft ride from the train station to the hotel(NOT WALKING DISTANCE!!!! There's a highway), and once we stepped in, we all relaxed and enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere, so calming you could barely notice there were most guests. It is a recent construction: a three story building with no pool(it caters to business travelers and college students with their relatives, but families are also welcome). The hotel lobby looked like a happy place, so full of light yet so peaceful. Right in the middle of the room, lovely Christina checked us in. Out of the 3 Hilton hotels we stayed for the past three weeks, this was the only one where we were acknowledged as Hilton Honors members, thus we got what we offered plus a little more: a 2 queen bedroom, only that Christina offered us one of their most spacious ones: room 229.

Rooms were so close to the main lobby that you could either take the stairs of wait for the elevators which did not take too long to go down. Room 229 was the very last on the second floor, but we do not regret following Christina's advice, and when we got inside, we silently thanked her for her suggestion: not only it was spacious, but it was also quiet, and the cleanest hotel room I've ever come across(please see enclosed pictures). There was no drawer or chest, however they were very clever by taking advantage of every single space, i.e. right behind the desk and beds, decorative wall hooks, etc. We had no issues with luggage storage! Room also included iron, ironing board, hangers, a fridge, a phone, an alarm clock, lamps and lights, USB ports, and a HUGE flat-screen TV. Plastic ice buckets were available by the ice machine on the first floor, and there was no microwave oven inside the room. This room was so neat and tidy I even dared to walk around barefoot and they remained clean! Even the bathroom was roomy and the No Ratio toiletries were so good I tried their body lotion on my hair and the frizz was gone... water temperature and pressure came out great.

Sometime later, we left for Tully's for dinner(ugh.... please check my review on that one), and when we realized there were too many leftovers, we didn't want to waste all that so I dialed the hotel's phone number and Christina answered. She said "no problem, there IS a 24/7 microwave oven right on the lobby so you can reheat all the food tomorrow"... she spared us spending money in lunch the next day! Also, I was glad that there was a coin-laundry room available so that I could do our laundry on our second stay.

Despite a car show going on on the avenue, we had a pleasant sleep.

Next morning we had breakfast, open from 6 am. They had assorted fruit, juice, coffee, oatmeal, omelettes and/or scrambled eggs, assorted bread, cold cereals, sausage, and a pancake maker. It was fulfilling and tasty, and the male attendant was nice and attentive. There were many spots to seats, and if not, then there was the cozy outdoor seating in front of the building, sought by the majority of guests. Just a couple of minutes before check-out, we used the not-so-friendly microwave oven to reheat Tully's food and it did the job. Soon afterwards, we checked out with Mac, and took a Lyft back to the train station.

On July 17, we were back from Niagara Falls and this time Edgy checked us in. We liked room 229 from the first stay so much that I wondered if it was available and it was! This time I did our laundry: only one washer and one dryer, but it was never busy... $2 each load, no detergent/softener vending machine on site(I already had some packets with me). Just like the first time, we had dinner outside, had a peaceful sleep, next morning we had breakfast, and a couple of hours later we checked out with Mac. Just like the first time, vibe was awesome, the room was spotless, and staff was very welcoming.

There are a couple of dining options within like....ergh, Tully's... Little Ceasars, McDonalds, Subway, Dunkin, etc. Other restaurants and malls like Destiny could be reached by car. The hotel is also a couple of minutes away(by car) from Syracuse Airport and Syracuse University.

Kudos to Angie from housekeeping! I happened to meet her right before leaving and not only she does an incredible job, but also she's a sweet, wonderful person! Thanks also to all the staff for treating us so nicely!

I recommend this hotel, and in case I go back to Liverpool/Syracuse someday, rest assured that I would stay here again. Thank you!

More contemporary hotel, seems designed to be cost effective. Hardwood floors for easy cleaning, soap and shampoo in squeezable containers making for less waste in bathroom sink and shower. Lobby is nice with wine and beer available. Nothing bad to report about this hotel at all!

Tru hotel is a great place to stay. The rates are reasonable. The rooms are very nice, the beds are comfortable. There are 2 plugs on both sides of the bed which have usb plugs also. The bathrooms are nice, the shower pressure is great. They have free breakfast with a variety of items including waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage, hot oatmeal, cold cereal, etc. There is coffee, tea & hot chocolate available in the common area & the coffee actually tastes great!
My only complaints are they don't have microwaves in the rooms, you have to go up by the front desk to warm up your food. The shower head in the room we were in is about 7 feet high which is great for a tall person but a shorter person like me (5' 1") can't reach the shower head to adjust the flow of the water.

We were at this hotel literally less than 12 hours (checked in at 10pm and checked out at 8am) and can not stop talking about how great it was! Spotless rooms with comfortable beds! Great decor and atmosphere. The FREE breakfast was a perfect way to start our day before we got back on the road. The lobby had a very hip vibe with cool furniture, hang out areas and even a foosball table!

Our family (4 teenage kids and 2 adults) travel often and stay at a variety of hotels. We will definitely look to stay at a Tru hotel in the future based on this experience.

The hotel staff was very friendly and courteous (2 different shifts). The location is very convenient with proximity to downtown Syracuse as well as Oswego.

The roooms are..... sterile and androgynous and lack any sort of comfortable feeling. While it's an obvious attempt to gain customers from the mid 20s to mid 30s in age, they have perhaps gone too far in this attempt.

While I would stay in a Tru again, out of necessity. If I had to stay at one, it would be this one.

Had to stay spur Of the moment due to business delay. Upon arrival helped at front desk by Kitche who was extremely pleasant and helpful. Told her my husband and I had to we stay unexpectedly And had no overnight things with us so she helped us with toothbrush and toothpaste and said if there was anything else we needed we could call down to the front desk. She told us a really good place to eat which was Tully's, food was excellent. Our Room was extremely nice very clean very minimally decorated but well thought out with comfort and need. Bed was super comfortable and sheets were very soft. All in all was an enjoyable stay and price was right. Would definitely stay again and will be looking for them in other areas as we travel all over.

We’ve never stayed at this brand hotel before and I must say I’m pretty impressed. Super clean & well appointed (we don’t need much, only stayed one night). It offered smart use of the space with a rolling table as well as surface/shelf space over the A/C unit. There were hooks on the walls for hanging jackets etc as well as hangers if you need to hang more delicate items. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The bathroom had soap/shampoo/conditioner/lotion dispensers for your use plus plenty of towels and the shower even included a step for shaving/rinsing. They have laminate flooring so it was super easy to tell how clean the place was. Also the amenities in the lobby were fantastic. Games, snacks, free hot breakfast. They had a smart white board near the elevators that gave area recommendations (like a write on/wipe off version of a concierge). While we’ve never stayed at a Tru property…I wouldn’t hesitate to seek them out in the future.

I was there July 2022 and I don’t believe coffee is available 24/7. However, there was a McDonalds right next door open 24/7. 2nd option, the staff there was extremely courteous and helpful. They may have a pot ready if you ask.

You can certainly Uber from there however, depending on where you are coming from, A Loft or Embassy Suites would be a tad closer, but only a few miles however probably more expensive. I actually work most of the shows so Uber is a great option as depending on the show it can be quite a long line to get out of the parking areas!
