Grouse Mountain Lodge, celebrated for its inviting lobby and array of amenities such as a pool and shuttle service, sits in a prime location favored by guests for easy access to nearby attractions and outdoor fun. However, despite the clean and spacious rooms, reviewers frequently note they feel outdated and would benefit from better soundproofing and more consistent housekeeping. The service receives compliments for its friendliness and efficiency, but the value proposition is questioned, with some guests feeling the experience does not justify the cost, especially considering additional amenity fees.

Hotel's Favourite
We wanted to take a train from Seattle to a destination to enjoy some snow and cross-country skiing. This lodge is a short walk to the Nordic center where we rented skis. There are nice fairly easy trails x-country trails on the golf course. There was not as much snow in late February, but still the conditions were OK. The lodge itself is very nice with a nice restaurant, exercise room, indoor pool. Enjoying the large outdoor hottub as the snow fell was a treat. The rooms are quite large and comfortable with pretty views of the snow covered golf course. The staff at the hotel were all friendly and extremely accommodating in that the train into Whitefish from Seattle arrives very early and leaves very late. The lodge provides a shuttle into town and to the train depot which makes going into town very convenient. You can also walk to town as it is less than a mile, but during our trip there was too much ice on the sidewalks to make it safe to walk. Overall we enjoyed what I would describe is rustic elegance.

This hotel is not doing so well with cleanliness standards. I always carry wipes with me to clean surface areas of hotels. Fortunately, I did because my room was definitely not deep cleaned. The bathroom counter tops were dirty and light switches had dried liquid matter on them. One of the walls had dried liquid going down it near the trashcan from people throwing their drinks at the garbage.

Also, I asked for an extension on my stay because we were leaving on evening Amtrak train. At first they said no because someone was checking into my room after me. I have two problems with this...first each room should have 24 hours between each guest and second the hotel was only at 20% capacity, according to their driver. They are definitely struggling as they don't have a maintenance crew on staff and a bare bones housekeeping team, according to one of their front desk members. I think during normal times, this is a nice hotel to stay in, but right now, not so much.

The first impression of a place is the staff. When we arrived and checked in the staff were extremely unfriendly and not helpful at all when it came to describing the amenities and where to find things. However, the biggest problem I had was with the towels in the room. We booked a room for 4 people. When we arrived the room only had two sets of towels and washcloths. We asked for more in person at the front desk, 30 minutes passed and we called the front desk, an hour passed and we called the front desk again only to be told then that only one person had a key to where the towels were stored and no one could bring us any towels or washcloths because that person was on an airport run. Why would only one person have a key to the towels??? It had been a long day of exploring Whitefish and Glacier and it would have been nice to have enough towels and washcloths for the four people in the room. Also , I do not understand why we were not told no one could access the towels. Instead they made us wait an hour before I was told. They then offered us pool towels but no washcloths. Also the room had no soap to wash your hands. Luckily I brought hand soap with us. I was just surprised it was not provided.

Booked through Hotwire as a 3.5 star hotel on special without knowing the hotel. We we're given room 155, and I can tell you it doesn't even come close to 3.5 stars. The property may have the necessary amenities(indoor& outdoor pool, large bar, restaurant, free bikes, outside fire pit, conference rooms, etc)to be classified as such, but the room was very disappointing and to charge a resort fee is a joke. Upon arrival we were excited as the exterior is nice and represents something you expect from a lodge, the lobby was also inviting and well maintained, and the front desk staff was pleasant. The minute we walked into our room it was a rude awakening. The room was musty, drab, dreary, and dark. Furniture was beat up and the room though a good size, was devoid of any character. We tried to open the blinds and the opener fell off. The wifi was weak sauce(AT&T signal here is spotty as well, obviously not the hotels fault but makes weak wifi problematic). Also no outlets anywhere near the bed. The room was not quiet. The AC was louder than a Diesel engine and upstairs guests could be heard walking around due to creaky boards between the 1st and 2nd floors. The beds were comfortable and clean adorned with all white linens which was a rare plus. This "lodge" sports a solid location as it's a pleasant 1 mile walk to downtown Whitefish, and if you brought your golf clubs, there is a nice course next door. We also found the walk to city beach and the river walk very enjoyable. The room was not made up during our 2 night stay but I'll chalk that up to Covid guidelines along with all the things we were prewarned would not be in the room due to the pandemic. I would gladly stay in a 2 star motel before I'd ever stay at this lodge again.

We stayed 4-night at Grouse Mountain Lodge. We booked a last minute trip to Glacier National Park and all of the lodging options were full, except for Grouse Mountain. It was a pleasant surprise staying here. Yes, the lodge is older than other properties in this area, but we felt the customer service and comfortability of the room were excellent. Our double queen guest room was very large with a separate bathroom sink area. The lobby had fresh ice water and coffee available. The outdoor hot tub was huge and overlooks the golf course. Excellent location only minutes away from Downtown Whitefish, and Grouse Mountain Lodge even has bikes available that you can use for free. For the nightly room rate (which is FAR less than surrounding accommodations), we felt it met our expectations and we had a very pleasant stay.

4 couples planned a golf retreat up to the Flathead area. This hotel was great. The rooms and areas were clean, the staff was friendly and the service was great. While we traveled during the times of Covid, i felt they did a great job with cleanliness and make sure masks and hand sanitizer were available. It was nice that we were able to eat and drink in the bar area as well as outside. I would book this place again.

We booked a Family Room and it was nice to have the extra space. The front desk staff was always nice and responsive, except we were completely ignored by the male employee when we were trying to check out. Our room, however, was dirty. It clearly had not been vacuumed or dusted for a long time. We found empty liquor bottles under the sink. The kitchen area's wall and fridge were splattered with food. There were pills in one of the dresser drawers, and a dirty earplug on the floor. We had to get a vacuum and vacuum the room ourselves before we could take off our shoes.

The arms of the chairs in the room were covered with body oil and need to be replaced. The pool area was run down, and also dirty. We requested a coffee pot and it also came dirty, with used coffee in it.

If we return to Whitefish, we would definitely stay elsewhere.

PROS: The lobby was beautiful and the staff was so great. They helped with getting the TV to work with the cable, helped with laundry, provided extra soap, shampoo and laundry detergent. The staff at this hotel were so wonderful. I had left my wallet somewhere in the lobby and the front desk called me to let me know it was there and they returned it to me with all my cash and cards still inside. Now that is usually unheard of. The beds in the rooms were very comfortable.
CONS: The hallways were dark and a bit creepy. The room was also a bit dark and not very clean. There was hair in the shower, on the toilet and floor. There was a used makeup pad under the sink by the trash can. The couch and chairs in the suite seemed very old and dirty. I understand that the hotel is under some renovations, but the rooms do need some updating. Adding high hat lighting will brighten the dark rooms. A lighter color of paint such as white or a Wickham Gray HC-171 by Benjamin Moore instead of the blue and beige combo would also brighten up the rooms and make them look fresh.

If you’re looking for a place to get away from all the hustle and bustle, this is the place. It’s location is somewhat rural, but they offer trips to and from town on a regular basis at no cost. Pick up and drop off to/from the airport are only $5. The staff is very professional and always accommodating. The restaurant inside the lodge leaves a little more to be desired, but it’s not terrible. I would recommend staying here.

The staff was very accommodating to my need for an early check in and late check out. They went out of their way to be sure I was comfortable while waiting and the cleaning staff even said I could wait longer in my room, while they finished up another room. Everyone was SUPER nice! Could use a little update in the decor, but otherwise very nice.
