We are conveniently located close to I-295, I-95, and Portland's Jetport. Downtown Portland is a short commute away offering a working waterfront (lobster boats included!), shopping, celebrated restaurants, breweries, and live shows. We are also a short drive away from several state parks, beaches, golf clubs and amusement parks.

We stayed twice in two weeks and overall had a good stay.
That said, on the first stay we ran into cleanliness issues in the bathroom (hair on surfaces) and during the second visit condition items (also in the bathroom).
Despite these issue, we would stay again due to the location and overall amenities.

Sadly, there were far more negatives than positives. We stayed here because the price was less outrageous than in Portland proper. Positive first: staff was delightful. The beds were comfortable. The suite was nearly immaculate, other than mildew I noted when getting into the shower. To be fair, it’s not something that would be noticed without getting into the stall. The kitchen amenities and those that were available to borrow were impressive. However, the entire place could use a revamp. Things were worn looking in the room and hallway. We stayed two nights and our room was not serviced in between, though we did not put out the little sign saying not to and were gone all day. The furnishings in the room were oddly arranged with poor lighting by the dining table (which had only one chair) and the recliner (which didn’t fit nicely in the space). A cupboard door was missing in the kitchen. The noise from the fridge, I-95, the AC, and the room upstairs were all troublesome for someone who sleeps lightly (me). There was no indication that there was an environmental awareness-no recycling, no “leave the towels on the racks..”. We would never stay here again.

Hi Cindy B., Thank you for leaving such a detailed review. We are pleased to hear you found our price, customer service and cleanliness satisfactory. We are working hard (under new ownership and management) to make our hotel a place guests want to revisit time and time again. And we achieve this daily! The Candlewood Suites is built on a "longstay" model where housekeeping is done weekly. I apologize that you were not made aware of this at check-in. We should have also shared how you can renew your towels or linens daily, if needed. Finally, we are certainly environmentally conscious (as all IHG hotels are appropriately required to be!). We will take this opportunity to create better signage and check-in communication regarding our recycling and linen services. We appreciate this feedback! Very clean moderately priced hotel. I thought they had one bedroom units but they do not: it’s either a studio unit or 2 bedroom units. We had a studio which has a decent kitchen, a queen bed and a recliner chair plus desk & chair, a tiny table & chair

Great location, quiet, very clean. Far enough from the Old Port to avoid crazy prices but a quick drive to get there. The room was large and spotless. Bed very comfy. Small kitchen area so could further save money by having breakfast in tge room. Would definitely return.

The place is acceptable but far from 4 or 5 stars reviews. In the long term stay special rate offered by Booking.com, the unit is old, not well maintained, not clean to standard. Trash were left in our bathroom from the previous guest! Bed is confortable enough, but bed coverings are obviously old, recycled from other hotels, even torn. No bed bugs in our room, which was a plus. Kitchen amenities are very limited, with barely enough utensils for 1 person. Free laundry facility does sound nice, but not maintained, dirty. Only 1 working washer, and 2 dryers but none worked the way a normal dryer should. A medium load of laundry will take 4 + hours to get to the damp level! An unidentified big crawling bug was found in the kitchen sink one morning during our stay. The location didn't feel completely safe due to various reasons, mainly other guests present at the hotel. Highly disappointed by Booking.com for posting only excellent reviews for this place. Would have reservation booking through them again.

Where to even begin, to the unattended desk at check in, having to wait 15 minutes for JB to show up with his unpleasant demeanor… to the disgusting mildew/mold smell that permeates the entire building and the rooms… it just got worse!
After check in, we found no drinking/bottled water in the room. We went to the front desk to ask for a bottle of water, there was clearly a # of bottles of soda and water behind the front desk that were labeled “IHG rewards members”. When I asked “can I have one of these please” being an IHG rewards member, I was told NO by JB, but that I can purchase one at the vending machine.
I inquired about a water fountain and was told that the “bubbler” and the ice machine was broken.
We found a bug in our room the first night… then we tried to get towels the next day and were told by JB, that we had to bring our used towels down to him and he would exchange them. I had to carry our soaking wet, used towels down, he took them, counted them, told me I was missing a hand towel and would only give me back 1 hand towel along with the rest.
Never in my life have I seen nor experienced such INHOSPITALITY! I have been staying at IHG hotels for years, this place is disgrace and should be dropped by IHG. It’s well below a hotel standard and more like a hostel. There is also no housekeeping, sheets are chanted 1x a week and no one took out our garbage the entire time we stayed.
If I could give 0 stars I would have! For the price they charge and the absolute crap service you’re better off staying at a different place which would probably come with a pool, housekeeping, hot free breakfast and friendly staff who don’t make you bring your dirty towels to the front desk to get fresh ones.
This place really needs to be exposed for the dump that it is!

Room was cozy with all the needed amenities. The bedding was particularly good--firm and soft pillows available. The front desk has reduced working hours, so beware of the time you are checking in as the front desk may not be operating. The front desk was kind enough to phone me in the evening to advise me of their reduced hours, would have been nice if this were communicated earlier in advance. Easy drive to airport. About 15 minutes drive from downtown Portland.

We just stayed at Candlewood for 2 nights, and we were very satisfied and happy with everything. The room was meticulously clean. The kitchenette was especially helpful and well-stocked for cooking stay-in meals. The workers at the front desk were immediately helpful when I requested coffee filters, etc. We will be back. The attentive staff made all the difference.I now wish a tried to get another night while there, Joan from Clinton, CT

Me and my friend where staying for a convention in Portland down the road. We did one room queen bed with a kitchenette
The room has a weird smell. Carpeted floor has a red stain and is sticky. Bathroom faucet is lose you can barely turn it on, with out the feeling of breaking it. There was an alarm going off on our floor for no reason and was never addressed and it was going off late at night 6pm throught 3am
Not to mention rude and terrible customer service to, while checking in. i was told the card was declined and I needed to transfer money to it, even after explain it should go theough it has no limit and if it is its over a thousand. Plus i had just used it down the road not even 5 minuets earlier.
Due to tge card issues and the condition of the room and being told there is a 100 dollar deposited fir any damages. I took pictures of the room and asking for a full itemized receipt.
Will not come back and not recommending to anyone.

We checked in to this hotel, walked into our room, turned around and checked out and left. The entire hotel/halls/room had a really strange smell. The floors of the elevator and halls before we even got to our room were really dirty and looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in weeks. When we got to the room it was really hot and the air conditioner said it knows when you aren’t in the room so it won’t run when you aren’t in there. We turn it on and nothing happens. After a quick discussion about the cleanliness (or lack there of) we decided to leave. The front desk employee offered no sort of refund, not even a partial. My husband told him he knew there was no possible way we had kept them from booking a room (there were maybe 4 cars total in the parking lot and we didn’t see any other people while there) but the associate assured us they sell out every night and we couldn’t get a refund. So for the first time ever we immediately checked out of a hotel right after check in, completely lost out on over $300, but did not care because we were just happy to get out. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Avoid this hotel.
