Detailed Reviews

I’ve been from Rome to Nome, from Maine to Spain, to 3 county fairs and an all night buzzard beauty contest and I can honestly say there is no other destination like Frontier Experience. There is not a whole lot traffic on the road of great customer service these days. The folks at this lodge are at the head of the line when it comes to that. They are light years ahead of some of the swankiest resorts when it comes to making sure your visit is memorable and has you counting down the days when you can visit again.

Derek, Andrea and their staff always make sure the smallest detail is attended to and the word “no - can’t do that” is not in their vocabulary. I have been to all of their lodges and the memories of my visits will always stay with me. Some of the highlights:

— Best food in Northern BC. If you don’t want what’s on the menu, no problem. They will make whatever you want. Telly’s in Smithers is up there too and is the place to go when not at the lodge

— Always new adventures. I go for the steelhead fishing and Derek and his guides always find some new water to visit each year. He is constantly taking us to unexplored and uncrowded rivers to chase salmon and steelhead. You will never be bored. I never cease to be amazed at both the quality and quantity of the fishing and fishing locations they have access to.

—Very comfortable cabins. You will fall asleep and dream well with the sounds of nearby rivers joined by the lonely freight trains in the distance. Truly magical.

Anyway, this place is not to be missed. Do yourself a favor and spend sometime with them. There are not many places:that make you feel emotional when you arrive and even more emotional when you have to leave.

Very nice setting within a short stroll of the Bulkley river and a fantastic view of Hudson bay mountain. The breakfast was gourmet, the rooms was really nice and comfortable and the staff were as good as it gets 👌. The only issue was the mosquitos, they were nasty at times but we managed... We attended a wedding ceremony and reception on site which was very idyllic. My only suggestion to the resort would be to have washrooms available for such events; there were two porta potties brought in by the wedding party. I think a event such as this deserves a little more...

Highly recommend this stunning lodge nestled in the BC Mountains. We were looking for something different and relaxing and this exceeded our expectations!

Frontier Experience in Smithers, BC is the perfect getaway if you are looking for a unique outdoor adventure surrounded by breathtaking landscapes & upscale accommodations. Private cabins with pristine views, the hosts and staff were attentive & welcoming. Enjoy nature in the day; fish, boat and lunch along the river. 5 Star dining, w/drinks by the fire in the main lodge at night and hot tub under the stars. Awesome vaca - luxury in the woods!

Beauty, comfort and friendly faces hit you the moment you arrive. Just a short drive from the airport and BAM! you're surrounded by mountains, a beautiful river and fresh air.

The staff is so top notch - the food, the drink, and the laughs come fast and often. To top it off, the cabins are off the charts. Great bed, heated washroom floors, and a front window that looks out to the mountains. I slept better here than I ever have at home I think.

And let's not forget about the fishing. I went at the tail end of the Steelhead season and got into fish everyday. The guides are true pros.

Incredible holiday all 'round. I can't wait to go back.

This might be my favourite place in the world – pristine wilderness, eye-popping scenery, terrific fishing, personal touch from expert guides, no matter your experience level. Elegantly appointed lodge with delicious meals prepared with pride. Roomy, clean, comfortable cabins. Derek and Andrea run an elite operation and care deeply about their clients, which is why folks keep coming back. The Frontier Experience will make fond memories for life!

I literally can not say enough about this Gem. From beginning to end it may have been one of the best 4 days ever.
They specialize in fishing and are Steelhead guys for sure but are expanding their season into adventures for couples/families etc. The lodge and property is beautiful and right on the river. The food was spectacular ( and we are your typical Vancouver people who think you cant get a decent meal outside of the city) Peter and Lindsey took such great care of us including a 3 course meal cooked on the glacier helicopter tour Derek the owner arranged for us. We did jetboat, fishing and a float trip and everyday was a first class experience. Corbin, Derek and Stevie were outstanding guides /hosts and lawn pong instructors! All and all the best and most inclusive experience we have had in a very long time. Go now before the rest of world finds it!!!

The husband and I went on a weekend getaway and it was a great experience. The private room with a king-size bed felt luxurious with a beautiful view of fields, the river, and mountains. The hot tub was very much enjoyed. The food was incredible - we were waited on by friendly staff in the big lodge for our meals, and we enjoyed true culinary art. Above and beyond what we expected! I'm sure we will return for our next getaway!

We recent help our 3 day board meeting here. What an amazing spot to work on our terms of reference, team building, and agenda all about salmon. Staff were attentive to our needs and yet not noticed while we had our business meetings in the main lodge in the open area. We held our brain storming session outside under the wide open skies next to the river. THE FOOD WOW! Each meal was a feast to the eyes, nose and mouth - very accommodating for our "pickier" eaters. So fresh, so flavourful - the bacon oh the bacon :>) Great cabins, leave your drapes open to experience the ever changing mountain views. Highly recommend for your next board meeting family get together, friends gathering..... use any excuse just book now :>)

Had a super-fun trip here last year. Cabins were brand new, comfy and spotless. Had a great view of the Mountains above Smithers. Plus right next to the Bulkley river. Loved the river hangs we had there. Food was amazing. Best bbq salmon I've ever had. Of course, caught fresh from the Bulkley, Also played Disc golf which was an unexpected treat. Did some epic mountain biking at Bluff rec area. Tons to do in Smithers as well as the lodge. Saw black and brown bears off the highway on the way to town. Highly recommend a river trip. Derek and Andrew were really cool and hospitable. Wish we had an extra week there. Would definitely go back.

Derek and his crew have created an oasis in Smither B.C. Something you might expect to find in a bigger centre or more popular tourist destination. The lodge, accommodations and food are all 5 star. Frontiers staff is amazing. All very attentive and available to help with the smallest of details. We are all looking forward to are next visit.
