The RoseSea Guest House is located right on the harbour and has beautiful views of the rugged landscape that is unique to Rose Blanche. Everywhere you look is a photo opportunity. We stayed 3 nights in the room called the "Big Bottom" on the main floor. It had a full ensuite bathroom with shower, two comfortable beds and met our needs completely.

The guest house and the adjacent Madolyn's Studio/tearoom were recently remodeled and are immaculate and tastefully decorated with lots of artwork and natural lighting. The guest house has a fully equipped kitchen that guests can use, a sitting room overlooking the harbour and a small library.

The food was excellent - always delicious, satisfying and well presented. We had breakfast and dinner every day in the tearoom surrounded by beautiful paintings of local scenes, some done by RoseSea owner Lynne Sawford herself. Lynne is a great cook. You won't be disappointed!

Lynne and her partner Norm were wonderful hosts and made our stay in Rose Blanche very enjoyable. They even helped me with my search for family roots in the area.

Rose Blanche has suffered from the collapse of the cod fishery but it still has that authentic fishing village charm. The local residents were very friendly and always had time to chat and answer our questions.

There are two things you must do when you visit Rose Blanche. One is to visit the granite lighthouse and the other is to visit the abandoned community of Petites. The lighthouse was restored in 1999 and is the last remaining granite lighthouse in Atlantic Canada. It is a must see. The views are spectacular. Don't forget your camera!

Petites was a small fishing outport that fell victim to the government resettlement program in 2003.The people are gone but the buildings are still standing - 20 or more homes, a church, a school, a fire hall, etc. - all empty now and gradually falling apart. It's like a ghost town. The Bethany United church is said to be one of the oldest surviving wooden churches in Newfoundland and was declared a Registered Heritage Structure in 1994. You can still ring the bell. You can even go in some of these buildings but you have to be careful because they are deteriorating. Petites is a piece of history and represents a way of life that is rapidly disappearing. It is only accessible by boat (20 minute ride) so you have to find a local resident with a boat to take you there. Ask Lynne, she can put you in touch with someone.

If you enjoy taking photographs or have any artistic tendencies, you will be inspired by the rugged, scenic coastline and the unique landscape that this part of Newfoundland offers..

The RoseSea Guest House and Madolyn's Studio was a real highlight and great way to end our time in Newfoundland. I cannot believe that in 5 prior visits to the island that I missed the stunning community that is Rose Blanche. Lynne is an incredible host and an impressive artist with a rich life to share. The setting was wonderful. The food was the best we had on the island. The accommodations were perfect.

Lynne and Norman are gracious hosts at this lovely seaside B&B . The guest house has a kitchen and living area for guests. The Big Bottom room,on the first floor is handicapped accessible, with an ensuite washroom with enclosed shower . This is the only room with ensuite washroom. Everything is new. The house is immaculate. Breakfast was delicious, scrambled eggs and bacon and a blueberry crepe. There is a nice deck to sit and rest after a full day of hiking and exploring. The trail from Rose Blanche to Harbour LeCou is beautiful and leads to the Harbour that once once only accessible by boat. Lynne will also provide an evening meal upon advanced request. The charge was $20pp. Worth it, since there are no restaurants in Rose Blanche.

Rose Blanche is a village that is often overlooked but should not be missed . It boasts the only working granite lighthouse in North America. If you have time, ask if they can find a local with a boat to take you to the unoccupied town of Petites. We did not have time do do this and truly regret that we missed it.

Lynn was a terrific hostess for our one night stay in Rose Blanche. We have visited many places in Newfoundland but so far Rose Blanche was our favorite. It is quiet and peaceful. The deck offers views of spectacular sunsets. We opted to buy the dinner with our stay and we were not disappointed. Lynn started our feast with homemade noodle soup, homemade bread, and then we had fresh cod, caught that morning. It was all delicious and served on china plates. For breakfast we chose fruit crepes and they were terrific too. The lodgings were lovely, and filled with books about Newfoundland, and the internet as well. Lynn is an artist and writer, which are reflected in the decor of her guest house. There is a kitchen where guests could prepare food as well. I highly recommend Lynn's Guest house.
The lighthouse is set on a hill atop giant boulders, and is amazing to photograph. It is only 10 minutes from Lynn's place. We went after the season was over and so none of the shops, or tours were going. I was fine with that. I liked having the place to myself. I'm sure that it would be fun to watch how they restored the lighthouse, but it was great just to look at it.
Also- be warned - there are no restaurants, banks, stores, or other places to buy things there- so bring what you need with you. There is also a ferry that takes off from there to visit another outport that is only reached by ferry. We plan on going back.

Lots of room, clean and comfortable rooms with a self catering kitchen included. Right on the picturesque fishing harbour, the Rose Sea B&B is a perfect base for exploring the area which has a rugged beauty. Lots of hiking opportunities around including the Rose Blanche restored lighthouse and the hike to Barachois Falls.
The owner, Lynn, offers a supper if given a day's notice. We took advantage of this and were rewarded with a very nicely cooked cod dinner including soup, dessert and tea or coffee. In the morning we chose the fruit crepe option and loved the breakfast! We wished we'd had more time to stay. It would make a wonderful artist's retreat: so much around for creativity plus a great space to create in!

You must stay here. This B+B is so much more. Lynn and Lorna go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and at home. I just happened upon Rose Blanche but I will be telling everyone I know about it now. The drive out to it from the Trans-Canada. I saw it one way in the rain and on the way back in the sun and both ways it is stunning. The accommodations are comfortable - one building is the dining room and kitchen where you can have dinner (have dinner! Call the morning you are staying there to confirm) and have breakfast included. The other house is all the rooms, all with bathrooms (my room had it's own sink and toilet and I had a cheaper rate just to share a shower out in the hallway which wasn't an issue) and a main living space and kitchen downstairs. Two raised decks overlook the fishing area and you can see the boats and homes and drink coffee or beer and relax. It's such a peaceful village! There are heaters or fans in the room for however you feel. Wifi included! Again, get the dinner. Call in advance and book it because it is fish right out of the ocean and best homemade meal of soup and salad and fresh buns and tartar sauce and cod! all from scratch. Really outstanding! Same for breakfast (but crepes and berries!) :)

Because my wife and I were traveling with a dog we made lodging reservations ahead and didn't have the flexibility of changing our itinerary. Otherwise we would have spent more time at this fabulous guesthouse. The common area has a great view and very comfortable seating. Bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen areas are spacious, immaculate and comfortable. The innkeepers are great hosts and excellent cooks. I suggest making this your first stop in Newfoundland and spend a few days before heading north to see more of the province.

We didn't stay at RoseSea Guest House but we arranged to have dinner there one evening during our 2 weeks in Rose Blanche. Lynn was an amazing hostess and we enjoyed our dinner and bottle of wine on the deck outside overlooking the harbour. Our table was so beautifully set! We had fresh cooked rolls still warm from the oven and a lovely beef vegetable soup to start, then had an amazing cod dish for our entree, everything was delicious. To finish off our incredible meal, we had dessert, I thoroughly enjoyed a partridgeberry cheesecake with tea. Lynn noticed I was a bit chilly and brought me a cozy afghan to keep me warm which was so thoughtful! After dinner, Lynn toured us through all the newly renovated rooms on offer, they were all impeccably clean and tastefully furnished and I would definitely stay here if my father-in-law didn't have a house in Rose Blanche! We also saw the studio and some of Lynn's work, a beautiful space with loads of natural light...the perfect place to be inspired to create a masterpiece or two! I'll definitely be back for another meal at RoseSea :)

My sister and I recently visited Rose Blanche and stayed at a lovely B&B, the RoseSea Guest House and Madolyn's Studio. This was my second visit to Rose Blanche and my sister's first. I fell in love with the unique and enchanting community and surrounding landscape. The landscape is like nothing I have experienced elsewhere in Canada. It is quiet, pristine and beautiful. We stayed at the RoseSea Guest House that only enhanced our stay in the colourful, picturesque Rose Blanche. The room was clean and newly renovated, and overlooked a beautiful cove and harbour. Our hosts were most accommodating and very helpful. The food was terrific and I met many lovely people staying at the B&B. Lynn is also an artist with an eclectic range of works displayed throughout the B&B.
Rose Blanche is a mere 45-minute drive from Port aux Basques and well worth the detour/visit/stay. There is lovely hiking, spectacular scenery, falls, an old yet beautifully restored granite lighthouse.....really I would recommend both Rose Blanche and the RoseSea B&B as places not to miss if you plan a trip to Newfoundland!

We spent 3 nights here and enjoyed every one of them. So quiet, so dark, so serendipitous. We did take the hike to the lighthouse in spite of my bad knees. We sat on the deck watching the boats coming in. We ate the good food, drank some nice wine, and all-in-all enjoyed ourselves. Especially the art show that happened over our stay. But I never did learn if Lynn sold any of her pieces.
