The Homewood Suites by Hilton Chicago-Downtown is often celebrated for its central location, which makes it an ideal base for exploring the city. Guests have called out the clean, well-equipped rooms with kitchens and the comfortable beds, although some have raised concerns about maintenance and design flaws. While the service, especially at breakfast, generally receives praise for being friendly and professional, there are occasional reports of slow response times. Despite the comfortable and spacious atmosphere, the lobby's lack of ambiance and overall value for the price have been points of contention among reviewers.

I stayed here for 2 nights on a work related trip. The first floor concierge area was great for the Uber pickups. The lobby itself is on the 6th floor which is also where the free breakfast is located. There is a free happy hour with dinner each night. Breakfast was ok. I don't eat eggs but a friend said they were kind of rubbery. Also she got what she thought was decaf coffee one morning and then had the jitters all day so - maybe control your own coffee destiny LOL.

The room wasn't huge but was very nice. There was no fan in the bathroom so if you have to have that door shut when you shower, expect it to be steamy in there. The water pressure was on the weak side but not enough to bother me. The bed was firm enough and there were both foam and feather pillows on it which suited me fine. I have a bad back so I never sleep well in hotels - I would not count that against the place though. There are TVs in both the living area and the bedroom and an iron, ironing board and hair dryer are all available.

There is a refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher and even a little cooktop in the kitchen along with dishes and
I'll be bringing my daughter back to Chicago for a leisure trip in April and will definitely consider this hotel (if the rate comes down a bit!). I wish I had been smart enough to go look at the pool as that's a big factor for my daughter. :) The location was great, close Jewel Osco & restaurants.

Hello and thank you for your detailed review! We're happy to see that overall, you had a great experience with us! A few minor clarifications for our future guests would be that our evening social is Monday through Thursdays only, but breakfast is every day. Also, our bathrooms do have fans that are "stacked", which means they run constantly (although you can't hear it), exhausting through the roof of the hotel. We hope this helps, and that we'll see you back with us again soon!

Booked two nights here in a king one-bedroom suite. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful to me. The valet person on the ground floor was always pleasant and it was nice to know that there was a staff member at the entrance for safety.

The room was fairly spacious for two people and the kitchen was very nice to have. Some of the glasses were dirty with food stuck to them, but it was good that I checked before using them. There was also several scraps of paper on the bathroom floor behind the door that were still there when I checked out, which means housekeeping did not sweep the bathroom floor after our first night, although they did replace our towels for us as we expected them to.

The evening social was very nice to have available. I went to it my first night and there was pizza, beer, wine, salad, and cheese/crackers.

We checked in to the 17th floor for a 6 night stay. The hotel and room was very clean. Check- in was friendly and fast. The front doors off the street need some lubrication and service. On occasion a doorman would open. The room was nice. Beds were comfortable. Simple and minimally furnished. The kitchen was a very nice feature but could have used some more cookware and utensils. Housekeeping cleaned everyday including the dishes. The bathroom needed a little repair as the ceiling Sheetrocker/ spackle was damaged. Also the towel rack kept falling off the wall each time a towel was placed on.
The gym is small but functional. Free weights up to 50’s. The pool was warm and well maintained. The view from the pool level (19th floor) is great. Breakfast was good and better than most free/ included. It was well managed. Also the hotel provides a small dinner to its guests Monday thru Thursdays. Food was decent. Simple but in a city were dinner runs about $50-80 per person, you cannot beat this deal. Drinks included.
Overall the hotel is a good choice while staying in downtown. Excellent location. It’s clean and covers all the basics well. The furniture and finishes in the room could use some quality improvements but it works. Overall the quality and comfort / value, exceeds the cost. That makes it a Gringo Winner!!!!

I feel that I may be somewhat biased in this review since I booked this hotel during the low season on a Wednesday night, therefore got an amazing deal online. I didn't even realize this was going to be a suite with a full kitchen until I opened the door - so just in that regards this room surpassed my expectations. Regardless of the price, even if I had to spend quite a bit more, I think this place would have been worth it. It really does feel like a home away from home, with the room giving a small apartment vibe. I was able to get groceries and cook myself a small dinner - pots/pans/utensils and various kitchen utensils were all provided. I was pleasantly surprised to find a decent free breakfast in the morning (which I didn't even realize was included as well).

Most importantly, the location of this hotel was top notch. It is located right at the heart of the city by the magnificent mile. Having lived in Chicago for several years, I know the location can't get much better than here - especially if you are a tourist. Overall, I was blown away at the value, location and atmosphere of the room. 100% this suite would be a great home base for anyone visiting to Chicago.

I am a Hilton member and always stay at Hilton properties, Homewood is my favorite! We arrived in Chicago early in the day and went to the hotel to see if they could hold our luggage. A room was available so we paid the additional fee to check in early. I didn't know they would put an extra $200 on my card for incidentals, I've never had that happen before but ok no biggie it'll come off when we check out.
We set the room temp to 68, dropped our things and headed out. We came back several hours later, warm from walking around and wearing masks. Our room was not 68, it felt 78! It was cooler in the hallway. I talked with the woman at the front desk who checked with maintenance and was informed engineering had not turned the air conditioning on yet for the year, so none of their rooms had it turned on. It was only 65 out but with the sun coming it was warm. We made a tough decision to change hotels. We picked this hotel specifically for its location, there are several other hotels in the area that offer AC for paying $250 a night, so we left. :( upon leaving we were informed the charges would be credited back in 2-3 days. So now I have $650, instead of just the hotel price of $450 tied up waiting for the credit to process. I tried calling 2 other Hilton properties down the street and their phones just rang and rang. So after an hour and a half trying to get a hold of anyone at the hotels I was able to get a reservation at a Marriott hotel with AC!

Hello and thank you for your feedback! We appreciate our loyal Honors members, and as a member, we're sure you're aware that an authorization hold is placed upon your credit card with every check in. Currently, that amount at our hotel is $100 per evening, up to three nights. This is not a charge, but a temporary hold. As with many urban style hotels, the HVAC set up in our hotel is only capable of either heating or cooling as a whole. During your visit (and for the past two weeks), the daily temps ranged from 40's to high 50's, which is much cooler/colder than typical Chicago May weather. Needless to say, if heat was not available, the amount of guest complaints would be overwhelming. We are sorry that you were dissatisfied with your experience at our hotel, and do hope that you'll reconsider should you return to our great city.

Very close to many tourist sites, restaurants and shops. Also was very convenient to my work as well as train stops making it easy to get around. Parking is expensive, so being near the train makes traveling to and from the airport was cheap and easy.

Thank you for your comments! We're happy to see that you enjoyed our location and your experience with us! We agree, parking in Chicago is expensive, but when compared to similar hotels, we are actually low ($59.00/night). Also, keep in mind handy apps that can assist in busy urban hotel markets. We hope to see you again!

We have just come to the end of a 4 night stay we chose the hotel due to location, pool and free breakfast. We made the right decision.

Room was extremely clean and seems to have been recently decorated. The reason for me giving 4 not 5* is the sofa bed. My son was sleeping on there and the quality of the mattress was terrible springs sticking out everywhere we used the blanket provided to soften it for him, these need memory foam mattresses and not springs.

No housekeeping unless requested but we just stopped at reception to ask for towels when needed always some there and the ladies on the desk always friendly and helpful.

We visited the pool area daily my son enjoyed it he made friends and we were even lucky enough one afternoon to have it to ourselves. The view from the pool area is great being so high up. Always pool towels available up there.

Breakfast was great always something to eat and Jeremy was a lovely friendly face in the morning.

We attended the Wednesday night social had a beer and some snacks before heading out for the evening it was a nice touch and fairly busy.

Location is perfect we walked everywhere except Lincoln park where we used an Uber. The walk to navy pier is an easy one we watched the fireworks on Wednesday night and strolled back. You’re right on Michigan avenue and it’s an easy walk to millennium park.

I would stay here again if we came to Chicago it was everything we needed in a hotel.

After researching endlessly online for months to pick the perfect hotel for our long weekend downtown Chicago, I landed on Homewood suites. The location is perfect, walking distance to Michigan Ave and lots of restaurants and shopping. I was looking for a hotel with a bedroom separate from the living room and a kitchen and this fit the bill wonderfully. However, nowhere in all on my online research did it say that their pool had been closed for two years for "renovations". When traveling with kids, the pool is the first thing I click in my search engines and pictures is what I look for. Hindsight I should have called to make sure, but in my opinion if your pool is closed that should be splashed across your website for anyone to see immediately. Or a note should be included in your confirmation emails. We weren't the only ones upset by this as my husband was standing in the lobby when two teenage girls came down in their bathing suits asking where the pool was.
Room issues - the bathroom towel bar popped off the wall when I hung a towel on it, and my husband went to adjust the shower head to his height and that popped off as well. Other then those minor things the room was clean and the beds were comfy.
The complimentary breakfast was delicious and the staff working it were very attentive and kind.
I contemplated moving hotels since swimming was a activity my kids were very looking forward to, but the work of moving all our stuff and paying additional parking at another hotel after paying on spot hero just didn't make sense.
This hotel was not cheap for a weekend stay, so if you are coming with your family and your kids want to swim do not pick here.

Plus: super location, 2 short blocks from red line metro, easy access to mag mile and downtown. Corner suite with second window wall really opened up the room. They will hold bags for your last day. Pleasant staff. Late check out no problem. Kitchen. Comfortable bed. Minus: there are no extras at this time - not even the breakfast sandwich you got in early covid - nothing. Kitchen has neither d/w soap nor even paper towels (!) You get plates and glasses. But at least a f/s fridge (with one (!) ice tray). No housekeeping. Yes, there will be disruptive people in the street lobby who don't belong there. Horribly uncomfortable sofa. Place is mainly a value for convenient location - plan on using super easy CTA, parking is like $60 a night.

Thank you for your feedback! During this most unprecedented time in the hotel industry’s history, we appreciate everyone’s patience as we have been forced to make critical changes to avoid closure as so many other Chicago hotels have been forced to do. While we maintain our mission to be Chicago’s cleanest and friendliest hotel, many services have been reduced or eliminated stemming from severe lay-offs due to low business rates, and particularly lowering our hotel rates to only a fraction of what they otherwise normally would be. Parking currently is available however through our front desk for a nearby parking garage, at much less than $60.00. We all have faith that this will soon pass, and we will again be able to offer our guests the full features and amenities of our great hotel.
