W Fort Lauderdale is lauded for its prime beachfront location, despite occasional noise and management issues. The hotel's vibrant atmosphere, complete with ocean views and live music, is a hit among guests, though many suggest the rooms and furniture could benefit from refurbishment. While service is generally commended for its professionalism, opinions on cleanliness and maintenance vary, with some areas needing attention. Travelers often feel the hotel's pricing and resort fees are steep, considering the dated rooms and amenities, even though the pool and beach services are highlights for many.

Spent 3 nights at the W and very much enjoyed our stay. The hotel lobby is on the 4th floor, check in was smooth and quick. The hotel is conveniently located with lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

The W offers a lot different floor plans for their rooms, the floor plans can be viewed on Marriott's website. We selected the Mega Room based on the floor plan and balcony. The room is essentially two rooms as the bathroom is the same size as the bedroom.

When you walk in the room there is a “dressing” area that includes a desk with a Nespresso, fridge and complementary waters. Surprisingly, the drinks in the mini bar was fairly reasonable.

On the other side of the desk area is the bedroom, with a floor to ceiling glass doors offering an amazing view of the ocean, city and canals. To the right was the bathroom with more floor to ceiling glass doors.

The bed was extremely comfortable, it was soft but provided enough support you didn’t wake up sore. The room was quiet, no noise coming from the hallway even though we were near the elevator.

The bathroom was very large. It had a free-standing tub, shower, two sinks, a separate toilet room and vanity table. Only thing missing was a chair for the vanity table.

The balcony was long and narrow, it had a comfortable couch for lounging, small table and chair. We used it daily to relax and taking in the views.

As a Titanium member, we were given a $25 daily breakfast credit which can be used at the restaurant or the grab and go. The menu was simple but complete. Food was delicious; however, service was a bit slow, had to flag folks down a couple of times.

Pool was located on the 5th floor with ocean views, there are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. We tried relaxing at the pool but the unusual strong winds prevented from enjoying the pool. Felt like you were sitting in a wind tunnel.

We were very happy with our room and the service we received throughout our stay. Hopefully next time the weather will be better…

I stayed at this hotel with my husband for 4 nights. The property is very stylish with a great ambiance in the living room areas and restaurants. The check in was seamless and the clerk was very friendly and we were even able to check in early as the room was ready.

The room was a king bed with a partial ocean view. It was a smaller room in my opinion but the bathroom area was nice with a walk in shower. The balcony provided a very nice view. The bed was very comfortable with crisp linens.

Once we were in our room I noticed a few things that were minor annoyances. The door to the balcony was so difficult and heavy that I could barely open it. It took my husband helping me in order to slide it far enough to get outside. The magnifying beauty mirror was dirty and covered with finger prints and smudges from previous guests applying makeup I would assume. The other thing is that the room had multiple items with labels and price tags on them. Wine and champagne bottles, snacks etc. to purchase were everywhere. The desk area and mini bar/refrigerator were so cluttered and packed with items for purchase that there was hardly room for my laptop on the desk or personal cold drinks to be placed there. The espresso machine was large and clunky and also had a price tag on it that said something like, "take me" $150. That seemed very odd to me.

All of the items labelled and "for sale" made for a very tacky appearance. It was a pushy and overbearing sales tactic for what is supposed to be a luxury hotel. I feel as though having a menu of these items for purchase and then they could be ordered and brought to the room would have been much more effective and helped with the clean/open air esthetic of the room.

Overall, the common areas were much more elevated and up to standards compared to the room. It was a pleasant stay, very comfortable and with very attentive staff. I would stay again minus the tacky items in the room.

I returned this weekend from a week at the W Hotel with my girlfriend. It was an ok stay but I will likely stay somewhere else next time.

Check in:
Problems at check in related to the credit card used to book. I wasn’t happy with the answer I was getting from the clerk and asked to speak to the manager. The welcome manager (Rita) was less then welcoming. I finally gave up trying to resolve the problem with her.

No explanation of the facilities or the rules at checking

Room was nice with a beautiful view and very comfortable. The cleaning service didn’t replace the coffee pods two days in a row so I asked her when I saw her in the hall and she explained that she had been busy with checkout the last two days.

The pool was beautiful with a fantastic view and with a DJ pumping music out during the afternoon. The team handing out towels and serving drinks were great. My only complaint about the pool was they allowed people to reserve the best chairs at 7am and then not actually use them until the afternoon. Often the chairs were all taken. I would suggest if the chairs are vacant for an hour they are recycled for others (it’s what they do with the beach chairs here).

3 of the 4 days the hotel was very crowded and often took 15minutes to get from the ground floor to the 18th because of the wait and all the stops.

Food at the Elvez was ok but somewhat limited menu for breakfast. Severs were all very good. I would suggest the village cafe (walking distance from the hotel) or my favorite was the Atlantic Hotel.

Many good restaurants walking distance or a quick Uber.

At checkout I was asked by a young Lady named Jen (from DC) how my stay was and when I shared she corrected some issues immediately. She genuinely wanted to fix any of the issues I had and was truly a gem.

All in all an ok stay at a great location but all things included for the price I will stay elsewhere next time.

Hands down, one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. Waited in line to check in for at least 30 minutes. When we were finally able to get into our room, there was a huge piece of used dental floss right in the entry way of the room. A few minutes later, another couple that checked in at roughly the same time as us walked into our room; the front desk staff had double booked our room. It took another 45 minutes to get that straightened out and get new room keys. There was a big chunk of hair in the shower. It took over 2 hours to get a burger at the pool.

After all these things happened, we decided to talk to the manager to see if we could check out a day early, as we didn't feel the hotel's cleanliness/service warranted the high price of a so-called 5 star hotel. The hotel manager told us we could check out without a penalty and they would refund the 2nd night that we wouldn't be staying there. The employee at the front desk verified this information when we asked him.

It's been over 3 weeks since our stay, and our credit card still hasn't been refunded for the second night. Another manager at the hotel emailed me and said they wouldn't be providing a refund, despite what an employee and manager told us while we were there. When I told him that we'd been told otherwise at the hotel, he stopped responding to my emails.

So we were lied to by hotel staff, and forced to pay for a night we didn't stay at this "5 star" hotel, complete with trash and hair in the room. We will never stay at a W hotel again.

I’ll start by saying the best part about this hotel is the people. It’s not often I consistently encounter upbeat, positive, and helpful people working in every department of a property and I have to give credit. The GM is present and the managers are hands-on and also clearly present. Even the regular staff to do their absolute best to satisfy guests as much as possible. Between Kyle at front desk and Patrick behind the bar, the staff are more than happy to go the extra mile to provide the best stay possible.

The physical location is great, the pool is very pleasant, the restaurants downstairs are phenomenal, and the interior decor is great. We had several rooms and one was upgraded thanks to my Titanium status, which was nice. Overall seemingly what you’d expect.

All that said, I spent over a week at this property and eventually got to know it better than the usual weekend trip, and while I mostly liked what I saw, the execution wasn’t always up to the standards of what I expect from W level properties. For one, the funniest thing I encountered was a $10 “fruit bowl” by the pool that I actually posted on social media because of how it entirely didn’t match the description of what it was but that’s not even a big deal. The real issues start with that some of the maintenance was lacking, and room cleaning across the rooms my family had was not consistent even at check-in. During the Covid pandemic, this was clearly more cause for alarm than usual, and while I’m personally not VERY picky about seeing if hotels are maintaining their Covid cleaning promises, it seemed this was applied inconsistently. Occasionally, it seems room requests also got lost in the chain of command; on some of the first days, I had to request a mini fridge 3 times to one of our rooms before it was delivered. On the last day of my stay, they had an issue with my credit card and by the time I had breakfast had already locked me out of my room (even though everything up to that day had been paid). It was an inconvenience and eventually worked out, but the only notification I received was a letter in the morning? Some of this isn’t a huge deal, but some of the small issues just add up to be more stressful over time.

The head of guest services, Raul, was very very understanding and did his absolute best to rectify any and all situations that popped up. I could 100% tell that the hotel and staff cared which was great. At the end of the day they were hampered by some details and I suspect perhaps it’s because it’s a high-season and the pandemic has caused a variety of changes.

I would recommend this property to anyone as a great place to stay in Fort Lauderdale, but be emotionally prepared to be a bit patient sometimes.

After a 12-inch snowfall in the Midwest, we decided a quick trip to Florida was needed to escape our winter blues. After scouring the forums and reading a million and one reviews, we settled on the W Ft Lauderdale mainly because of location since and beach access. We decided not to get a rental car so we wanted to make sure there was plenty we could do within walking distance while also being slightly away from more congested area due to the current pandemic. We also wanted easy beach access that included chairs and umbrella. The W more than met our needs! Check in was quick and easy. We were in Tower 1, 16th floor room 1618. The view from this room is perfect, beach to the right and marina/city to the left. It was especially pretty at night! Only drawback, the balcony door in this room is hard to open and close. The room was clean and sanitized upon arrival. As a note, the mini bar has been removed from the fridge. However, this was not a problem for us since we planned on stocking it with our own water and booze anyway. We found the hotel to be nicely located within easy walking distance to restaurants or a cheap uber ride (~$6) when we did not feel like walking. We quickly fell in love with El Fez the onsite Mexican restaurant and found ourselves eating there most of the time. I wish I had thought to ask for the bartender’s name because he was amazing! He very quickly remembered my husband and I and what we liked to order! We made it a point to get there for Happy Hour daily for his amazing margaritas! The guys running the beach service across the street are friendly and helpful getting you set up in chairs for the day. The pool deck was very nice, and we loved the added convenience of ordering lunch right to our loungers. If we return to the area, we will definitely stay here again!

It's not very often I write a poor review but I rely on feedback from others wherever I stay or travel to and I believe this is the best forum for sharing our experiences. W Fort Lauderdale was a disappointment in many ways. We arrived on a Wednesday and our room was not cleaned until Friday and this was only after we called to complain. No shampoo in the room. Our balcony door wouldn't close. Hairdryer was not consistent and smelled like it was over heating. Food delivered by room service was either burned or cold. I've stayed at the Hilton across the street and I highly recommend the Hilton over the W any day. As well, I know people who were here for a conference. The meeting rooms were very cold and the room temperature could not be adjusted, the lighting wasn't working and the nearby bathrooms were locked. Conference management is certainly lacking in this department.

The W was extremely welcoming from the moment we arrived. Really nice friendly staff all over the property. The hotel was great , pool area was really nice although they didn't have a hot tub at the main pool which I think they should. There is a small hot tub in at the residence pool but they should have one at the main pool as well.

The other thing missing by the pool is there are no tv's at the tiki ba . The area is really nice with great service but on a sunday afternoon with NFL playoffs going on you have to have tv"s at the tiki bar. I was told because they didn't account for the sand and salt in the air when positioning the bar is why they don't have the tv's. It's not the end of the world but it is nice to watch sports while enjoying drinks. The Rooms were very nice, A minor complaint is the bath tub is in a very weird spot in the residence part of the W. Chances of having a bath are slim but it's just in an odd awkward spot.
There is lots of great restaurants in the hotel and the hotel bar is very nice with a good vibe.
The sushi bar was awesome, steak restaurant was really good and morning breakfast at the downstairs restaurant was excellent .
I am a platinum member and the W did upgrade the room which was nice but I do feel that breakfast should be comped. There are no lounges at the W which is fine but this particular property gives you a breakfast voucher for $25 dollars which does not cover the cost for breakfast which is about $50 dollars for 2. It's a small thing but more of a principle thing. I travel a lot and will pay less at a sheraton and far more at a St Regis, both of those properties fully comp breakfast for platinum members. The W brand should do the same. You pay a lot to stay at the W and it's a great spot but the least this property could do is provide its guests with 2 vouchers of $25 per room. Again, it's a small thing but its a good will gesture that would be appreciated from loyal customers of the brand.
The location of the hotel is great, lot's to do in the area and the beach is across the street so you have to walk across to it, but it's is very nice. All and all a great spot to stay and I highly recommend it.

Don’t waste your money on this place. Got charged almost 300 dollars when we left for no reason. The main pool never had beach chairs open and if you did try to sit somewhere you would just get booted out for someone who reserved it. Asked if we could reserve and they said no. Wanted to use their free two hour bike rental as advertised in their free perks with the hotel, went to ride them and it didn’t even work with the code. Room service is awful, for 6 nights only had someone come in and take out our garbage once, never had our sheets changed, gave us bath robes on our last day (??)Mini fridge could probably fit 3 water bottles in it. No microwave. As for the actual hotel, never have been somewhere more confusing in my life. Elevators and levels are confusing. Got lost to find the pool every time. Just save your money and rent an airbnb people.

We were disappointed by our stay at the W due to poor service and a musty room. They charge a premium so I would expect premium service and rooms but they didn't clean our room until 7pm after we called down to ask for it. The room was damp like the air conditioning wasn't working properly. The service was just ok. I wouldn't stay here again.

Honestly, that is a question that I would take the time to either call the hotel directly, which is what i do anyway to get the best suites or rooms. Ask to speak with the sales staff and there is a good chance that you can get a discount, as they are easy to work with.
