My wife and I stayed for 3 days and had a great time: The resort has its own "beach" and Dive Outfit, plus could organize a multitude of activities of all kinds, cultural or activity based. Kelly, the front desk manager who lived there, was fabulous; always helpful and resourceful, and pretty much 100% of the time went the extra mile with a smile!!
Because of the relative remoteness of the resort, all meals are provided and are served in a very communal manner. The latter serves to get the guests to talk and interact, which enables one to incorporate the experience of others into your plans. The clientel was very international!
Of the 3 days I spent one day for a shark dive, a must, but spent the other two days just relaxing and snorkeling on the house reef: this is a long swim, but for a small fee, they can take you to the reef in a motored boat (Fiji should be on more peoples "Must Dive" lists). Other guests told me their dives were from fabulous to so-so (just like Raja Ampat?), and that the surfing opportunities out at the reef were world class!
The surroundings are beautiful and there are much to explore. We were also invited to Kava night (go, please go).
Staff was friendly and helpful. In particular the cleaning ladies were at the top of any place I have been: Fast, efficient and considerate!
If you seek 4 Season type luxury, this is not for you; but if you just like to relax, meet people from all over, and still be able to dive into a very Fijian experience at a reasonable price, you will not go wrong with Waidroka Resort!
Three things: Wifi is currently(?) only in the main building; phone reception is fine; no TV

Thank you so much for your review, which is always much appreciated! We appreciate your kind words about our staff, who always strive to please and ensure our guests are super-serviced. It is also great to see that you did enjoy our diving and some of the watersports activities and in general appreciate our home-away-from-home family style atmosphere, which we strive to deliver at all times - it makes a stay at Waidroka bay Resort so much more special and memorable. We appreciate your feedback and are looking forward to hosting you soon again in our small Fijian paradise. P.S. - no TV's in the rooms are fully ON PURPOSE - you are on vacation in PARADISE! Very friendly staff and other guests remote location but lots of activities, including diving and surfing and snorkeling. Food from the resort is pricy so recommend buying some snacks to skip some meals if on a budget. Room I stayed was basic but had everything I needed and was spacious there was a mini fridge in room to keep my snacks. Pool is good, though I didn’t go he diving sounded great and has been highly recommended.

Had an amazing diving and yoga retreat at Waidroka Bay Resort. Loved the laid back atmosphere and friendly staff. I have been to 30+ resorts in Fiji and this one is one of my favs. Andy, Lorna, plus the rest of the staff are so accommodating and have so many fun stories to share.

You won't want to miss out on going for a dive here! The rooms have an eco-friendly feel, and the property is tucked inside a forest. There isn't a proper beach per se but you can still SUP, snorkel, kayak from shore -- and swim in the pool whenever you feel like. If you're a surfer, this is also a great home base to explore some of the local breaks + Frigates.

Food was great as well! Can't wait to come back.

Thank you so much for your kind review - it is very much appreciated. It is great to hear your appreciation of our team and members of staff, combined with the diving we offer, as well as having been to one of our Yoga-Dive Retreats, which always provide for lot's of smiles on participants faces. We appreciate your feeback about our rooms and amenities and the watersporst we have to offer apart from diving, with surfing, snorkelling, SUP & Kayaking...or just enjoying our 'Rainforest-Pool' . We really appreciate your positive review and being one of your favourite resorts in Fiji is definitley a great compliment - we look forward to hsoting you in the future. The Waidroka Team

I chose Waidroka because I was traveling with my two sons and they wanted to surf and fish as well as dive. Well, on arrival we were notified that the swell was huge and surfing was not an option( Tim, the surf guide was very honest and nice about it and by the amount of surfers there I doubt he wanted to mess around with two teenagers)
My son kept asking about fishing, or just to get a fishing pole for something to do. The manager blew him off completely.
We did go diving one day, and we ended up Diving the same site twice? Weird. Kinda sucked that they made no attempt to TRY and find maybe a smaller break, or a fishing rod, or anything?
The room was what you would expect from a surf/dive resort. Basic, sheets stained with sunscreen, none of the doors would close because they were so swollen. They did have a working A/C!
Be aware there is no beach, not even close by. At low tide you can walk out to the mangroves and find mudskippers that are pretty cute. Give your kids something to do!
The yoga room is lovely, great option for an activity.
They must have recently changed chefs, because the food was barely tolerable. Maybe they were having a few bad days? I feel terrible saying that because the staff (other than the manager) was lovely. The locals made the smallest glimmer of hope for this poorly managed resort.
I didn’t write this review to slam anyone, just to forewarn other perspective guests. There are other resorts that have a better location, that are cheaper, and follow through with the activities they advertise. I would be fine if it was like $50 a night but for the price, it is sorely lacking. I spent months planning this trip and if I would have read this review, I would have booked somewhere else.
We left early because there was nothing to do but hang out at the pool on our phones( there is SUP and kayaks but the dive instructor advised us not to go out, the tide was too strong) Obviously not their fault.
Would have been nice to be reimbursed. Or an apology.
Manager was like “Don’t hit your ass on your way out!”

Thank you for your feedback and review - we appreciate it. We appreciate your nice comments about our local staff, the Yoga Room and some of the activities we could still arrange for you - even though we where effected by a major cyclone at the time. Unfortunatley during the time of your stay we have had challenging weather and definitley unsafe sea-conditions, due to a cyclone which had just passed. As such all of our water based actitivies where limited, which we briefed you about right upon arrival. As both your sons where highlighted to us as beginner surfers we did not think it would be safe for them to surf with such a large swell and unsafe conditions. If any other resort would have taken you out during these wind weather and sea conditions it would have been irresponsible and unsafe, which standards we hold high. On your dive day you where taken to the only local mooring which was safe in terms of sea conditions at the time and although you did not go to a different mooring on your seond dive - you definitley did not dive the same site, as we have 3 different dive sites of this mooring of which you dived 2 different ones. We apologize that you did not find Waidroka to be your kind of resort and even though it is outside of our control feel bad about your weather experience. We unfortunatley do not reimburse due to weather and still tried our hardest to make the best out of the conditions for you. We look forward to having you back and if you ever decide to return shall definitley try to make it up to you both in price and of course your stay. We are very sorry for your experience at Waidroka. I booked a dive and accommodation package with Waidroka Bay resort. I was charged $2,300 for 6 dives and 3 nights accommodation.
When I subsequently raised my concerns about the cost, I was CC'd in an email between employees stating that I "argued with them" and that their colleagues should "stay clear" of me.
Completely unprofessional and inappropriate to speak about a customer like that in an email chain - especially when the customer is in the email.

I have subsequently booked nicer accommodation and 4 dives for $900 with a much kinder company who have treated me with respect and warmth.
My experience with this company has made me upset and I wish I had not come across them. I look forward to diving in Fiji with a much kinder (and cheaper!) company.

We at Waidroka would like to highlight THAT YOU WHERE NEVER CHARGED ANYTHING - AS YOU NEVER STAYED WITH US. you requetsde a quotation from one of our Travel Agents - then subsequently tried to go around this Travel Agent directly to us and when we referred you back to the Travel Agent you got all upset as you thought we would give you a better Deal. Waidroka offers great value packages and all of our customers are extremley happy with the value for money they recieve. It is your choice to book or not to book, whilst if you belive we are to expensive for your type of budget - this does not give you the justification to slam our resort, which never even stayed in. We wish you all the best in your shopping around for Travel deals going forward, howvere if soemone is to expensive for your budget - this does not mean that they dont offer great value - just that your budget did not allow you to afford such a resort. Good luck to you in your future shopping around for Travel packages.

Room and main facilities need a little tender loving care presently. That is understandable since the resort has had basically no income for 2+ years due to covid lockdown. Pool is well maintained (and a nice place to relax after a day of surfing or diving).

Meals in the main lodge (typically breakfast and dinner) were at one large table that seats all of the guests. This provided opportunity for guests to start conversations while breaking bread together. Food was flavorful and ample in quantity. Virtually all of the lunches that I had were on a dive boat. The kitchen provided a 'one box' meal daily for each diver. There were also an assortment of baked goods and some fruits on the dive boat to snack on during surface interval. Some divers had special dietary requests and the kitchen accommodated them well.

The location is interesting. It is about a 2 1/2 to 3 hour drive from the Nadi airport (NAN). The resort property is located across a high ridge a few miles by rustic road from the highway. This isolation results in the resort being quiet. Pace is low key.

Dive boats were okay. They had two large outboard motors extending from the stern. Which meant that the diver to get back onto the boat between the two large motors. In calm seas this isn't a concern. In rough seas the diver has to exercise additional caution. I prefer dive boats with inboard motor but I'm not sure those would work here due to the shallow draft needed for the boats to cross the channel to the open sea during low tide.

Dive sites were good. The colorful hard corals were amazing - looked almost like a flower garden - we don't get that in the Caribbean.

The resort and dive staff were excellent. They went out of their way to make our stay and diving experience great.

Hence, the 4 stars rating as follows: 3 stars for facilities (that I'm sure will likely be improved once a steady income has been restored), 5 stars for resort and dive staff. That averages to 4 stars.

Thanks so much for your great review and also for your detail within. We really appreciate your review, especially your appreciation of our food and the diving. Of course as always your comment ' the resort and dive staff where excellent, which is what we strive for woth our passion for shwoing off Fiji, its people and of course the diving and amazing corals (soft and hard). Your comment regarding the use of outboards is right on and due to the navigations of the reefs at all tides an inboard with in our location would simply not work. We also appreciate you noticing the 'rustic' feel as you called it and again your comment about post-Covid is right on and we are continuously in the process of refurbishing and fixing the 'left-overs' from 2 years of closure. We have by now made great progress and even just since your stay have managed many improovements. We look forward to you staying with us in the future and Thank You for staying with us. My wife and I traveled with our 3 children(7,4,2 yrs old) to Waidroka in Late September.
This was our First time taking our children overseas so we knew we were up for a challenge but we did not want our children to just sit in a room on screens we wanted an adventure for our kids.Waidroka is an Adventure resort. I’m a keen surfer and the first morning I woke up I was out with another guest and the resort owner Boris before 8am. If you are a travelling surfer you would know that you are going to be dependent on the conditions Huey sends you.
I scored beautiful conditions on the 6 sessions I had in my 7 days at Waidroka.Frigates is an amazing long left hander and Fiji pipe was a nice barrelling left. There’s even a couple of sneaky little rights on offer.
Snorkelling around Yanuca Island was stuff dreams are made of,there are no words to describe how beautiful that place is.The Kids played all day and tried snorkelling, everywhere you looked it was a postcard view.My wife took our eldest son on the River Tubing travelling up the river going to villages and exploring waterfalls, they had an amazing time.
My children have come back and started Nippers( junior surf life saving season) and they are ahead of the other children because they swam in the resort pool everyday for hours, they’re confident getting into boats now .
The staff looked after our young kids like they were their own ,we were made to feel very comfortable. Our youngest even sat in the same handmade high chair that Boris the owner had made for his daughter 20yrs prior. We loved that.
If you’re looking for a resort with big TV’s , room service, where you can isolate yourself and hide away ,then don’t go to Waidroka.
If you’re after an adventure, where you have your meals at a large family table with everyone ,where there are no screens and you have to get off your butt and chase after fun everyday then go to Waidroka.

The hardest part of our trip was getting through Sydney International airport ,that place was a mess,it took us 3hrs to get through customs and baggage. We got off the plane in Nadi and in 20 minutes we were through getting greeted by a driver with a Van for the 2 hr drive down to Waidroka.

We loved our trip to Waidroka ,we’ll be saving our pennies so we can get back there.
Vinaka.

Thank you so much to the lovely Keane family for your feedback and review - we really appreciate it. With such a review we are having a hard time what to say other than thanks so much for honoring us with your presence...we truely enjoyed having you there, your kids are amazing and we are super glad to have met you guys. Glad you managed to score such great waves on your various sessions at our many surf breaks. Yanuca island vists are always special and its simply absolute paradise for everyone visting. Of course not to forget River Tubing, which is an amazing fun day out, with the waterfalls, village visit and so much fun tubing down the Navua River. We so appreciate that you liked and also appreciated our atmosphere at the resort which is all around creating a 'Home-Away-From-Home' for all of our guests and it seems like we managed to do so. Our dinner times are always special and sharing stories amongst everybody and getting to know all the other travellers, creates amazing friendships and is inspiring. We look forward to having you back and can't wait to host your family again. The Waidroka Team

I could write a review about the lovely, rustic accommodations, the delicious meals, the proximity to wonderful dive sites, and the terrific staff at WBR, but so could many others. Instead, I will comment on the way our group of 16 was aided and assisted when the world started coming apart at the seams. We had cancelled flights, deadlines to leave the country, and many challenges that other guests have not experienced. When everything goes wrong, people show their true colors. The kindness was overwhelming. Lorna and Andy did everything in their power to help us. Lorna spent a whole day at the computer and on the phone (call waiting) to get us booked on flights before the airport closed. Matt and Emily who had led us on many special dives, jumped in and led a FREE snorkel trip. We were allowed to stay beyond our reservations with very generous prices. I just can't say enough about these people. When traveling is allowed again, I know they will provide every guest with an experience that surpasses any other resort in Fiji.

Bula Jamie, Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review, and for your kind words about Waidroka. Even though life threw a crazy situation your way, it looks like Andi and Lorna (as well as the rest of our staff) were on it, and in an amazing way! This is exactly the kind of super service that larger hotels cannot provide. As a boutique resort, we have the luxury and the privilege to treat every one of our guests as members of the Waidroka family. This applies not only in the usual times of great fun at our resort but also when faced with the kind of challenges such as what is currently taking place throughout the world. What is most important is that you and the rest of the group were able to make it home safely. We would love to see you again soon and provide another amazing experience. Great location, awesome food and friendly staff. Rooms were comfortable and had air conditioning and hot water too. The diving is epic. I will be back for sure.

Be careful of pricing as some packages don’t include transfers to frigates pass which is quite often the best option as it handles any tide.

Bula Sean! Thank you for taking the time to write a review, and for your kind words about our resort- particularly about our food and staff. Also great to see that you had an epic dive experience! We would love to take you out to our amazing dive sites again, which will be waiting for you when you come back! True, due to its distance (around a 40-minute boat ride from our docks), trips to Frigates are an additional $75 FJD, even if a surf package is booked, (and provided there are at least 4 other passengers going out, either surfers or divers- Frigates also boasts spectacular diving). Having said that, these trips are well worth this relatively low extra cost as you mentioned in your review, and if possible Frigates is something every surfer (and diver) should try to experience when staying at Waidroka! Thanks again for your kind words, and we can't wait to see you again soon at our wonderful slice of Fijian Paradise. Vinaka Vakalevu from the Waidroka Team “Come join us again in Paradise”

The people make the place! I cannot say enough about how well we were accommodated while on this trip! The service received from the managers-Lorna and Andi to the dive masters and staff was 5 star. The food was excellent and plentiful! The accommodations were clean, air conditioned, and comfortable. There were 8 days of bliss! Then the unthinkable happened, and we were faced with being stranded indefinitely. Lorna worked tirelessly for to assist our group in negotiating a way to depart, all the while reassuring us that we would be cared for if we were stuck. The sentiment of welcome and hospitality came from everyone working at the resort. While relieved to be getting home, I left with concern for those we left behind to face the challenges of these uncertain times. When the world returns to normal, I would definitely recommend a visit to Waidroka Bay Resort!

Much aloha to everyone there! Bula vinaka!

Bula from Waidroka Bay Resort, First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to write your review, we all really appreciate it here at Waidroka Bay Resort. This is a very crazy and hectic time all over the world, and we are very happy to see that this didn't phase our wonderful staff, who stepped up to take care of your needs and continue to provide first-rate service, even in the midst of a global crisis. You can definitely snorkel off of the dive or surf boats. But I don't think snorkeling off the resort shoreline would be nice. They offer kayak for free if you want to explore the mangrooves. I would email the resort... they are pretty nice.

Hello Erin, Apologies for the delayed response, as our Sales & Marketing office was closed for the weekend when you emailed. They have since responded to you. In any case we apologize for the confusion with our website we will definitely look into this. It is entirely possible that the duration you were trying to book was unavailable. In any case, there is no minimum booking requirement, guests can even book 1 night, although to be fair this really isn't enough time to experience Waidroka to the fullest. Additionally, we have a number of Specials starting from 5 nights which are discounted, so if possible it will always be more worth it to stay at least 5 nights in order to benefit from this discount. Having said that, surfing can of course be booked on site and you can indeed pay per day.

Bula from Waidroka, taxis from nadi airport are 199.50 FJD with our transfer service which is availanble to all of our guests at the same charge, no matter if you book a special or not - so the rate and service is of course available - all you need to do is let us know to book for you. The same goes for your return trip back to the airport...same charge and a 24 hour service to get you to your flight. So just let us know and we can arrange for you. The WiFi at the resort is 3G, as per the provider Digicel. The main building facility is where you have the best chance for good WiFi and the resort operates their whole business, including cloud based network, via the same WiFi (it is separate from the guest feed so one does not effect the other) and without any issues. Dependent on what internet speed you require and what your intentions are you should not have a problem working remotely. Hope this helps.

Bula - please find the information for non-guests and surfing below: Please find below the information about surfing with us at Waidroka if you are not an in-house guest – so a visitor. As we are a surf resort (and NOT a Surf Operator) we always put our own guests first and must see that we have space on our boats and of course coordinate our general departure times and surf break choices as per our in-house guest requests. We do however dependent on availability take outside visitors on our surf trips whenever we have spaces and availability (we will not crowd out our surf breaks for our own in-house surfers) possible and the details are noted below. We can if we have availability on our boats take on outside surfers on our surf boat transfers. The way this works is per our standard published rates (see link below for Visitor Rates) and normal Terms & Conditions. Our Local breaks costs for outside guests are set at $115 FJD for our local breaks and our rates for boat surf transfers to Frigates Passage are set at $ 185 FJD. Further details are published on our website. The way to go about this is to call the resort (see phone contact details below) preferably several days prior to your desire to go surfing and ask if there is availability and also get information about which breaks we are going to on any given day, as well as get surf forecasts and weather information. We do apologize as there is not always availability on our boats due to us ensuring that our in-house surfers staying with us obviously get preference on the boats and we do try NOT to 'crowd out' our surf breaks with too many surfers. Local Surf trips are tide dependent and do not leave on a specific time on a given day (CALL to see our departure times), whilst Frigates Passage trips always leave in the morning (CALL for specific details). For any other information you can view our websites surf section (see link below) or e-mail our surf guide (copied on this e-mail) or just call and ask for the surf guide or for further information.
