Grissy's Hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and knew us by name and even the hotel owner himself greeted us by name and frequently inquired about our stay. Grissy's motto is to "Create a happy guest" and they DO go above and beyond to do so. If you're looking for a clean, relaxing, and friendly atmosphere, then you'll love Grissy's. Plus, the beach is literally just a few steps away and the attractions are just about a 10-15 minute drive away. The only downside to the hotel is the size of the swimming pool; it's a bit small. But if you're in Tela for the beach, then pool-size won't be a problem. Enjoy!

Staff was friendly. Suite was large but sparcely furnished. Telephone does not work, internet does not work. Free breakfast very poor. Food average. Cocktails were good. Needs upkeep, very run down.
Busloads of people in the pool with clothes on. We were the only people wearing bathing suits. 1 block walk to the beach. Absolutely no shade available. Beach dirty with garbage

I am living in San Pedro Sula, HN for 3 months and took a 2 day trip to Tela, which is about 90 km away. Mind you, I went alone during a slow time so this may or may not apply to you. The positives about Grissy's are that it was relatively inexpensive ($70/night after taxes and fees even though it was listed at $50/night on Expedia), the staff was very attentive and nice, it is very close to the beach, and the room air conditioner worked well, which was a must because the weather was very, very hot, even for Tela I am told. But Grissy's was basically a place to sleep not a place to hang out. Breakfast, which is a typical Honduran breakfast with huevos, frijoles, queso, and pan tostada, is from 8:30 to 10 AM and dinner is only from 6 - 7 PM. The kitchen closes at 7 PM so you need to order well before 7. I had dinner one night and it was fine. The pool is small and I personally think it is only good to wade in or for little kids. Grissy's is out of the way on a dirt road (many roads in Tela are dirt) and about a 10 minute cab ride from the center of town. They did call me cabs every time but the cab drivers charged me different amounts each time; the cost ranged from 40 lempiras to 100 lempiras for the same ride ($2 - $5). I also got ripped off by a cab driver who charged me 200 lempiras for a ride to the bus which was about half as far as the town center. But they don't have meters so what can you do?

Things that I did not like about Grissy's were that the free internet was only available in the lobby and not in the rooms, they only provided soap (no shampoo, conditioner or lotion) in the bathroom, I didn't have hot water in the shower (it wasn't cold but it wasn't warm either), and the lobby was not air conditioned. They sometimes put a fan in there when I was sitting there but not always so I would just sit there and sweat in the lobby.

If I were traveling with a girlfriend or parent, I would not have stayed at Grissy's. I would have stayed at the La Ensenada or Indura. I did go to La Ensenada Sunday. For $50 you can take advantage of the all-you-can drink, lunch, pool, hammocks, and beach facilities there from 9 AM - 5 PM (They don't provide towels though). If I had another person with me, I would have stayed there because it would have been about the same price as Grissy's if you count the $50/person for the amenities and I am sure the rooms are a step or two up from Grissy's, but I have no proof of this. Basing it solely on the pool and food area, it was several levels above Grissy's.

In my opinion, Grissy's is great if you want an inexpensive place to stay, have your own car, and are more into doing excursions or taking adventures rather than relaxing on the beach or by the pool.

This place SUCKS, dirty, hot and misleading. You have to take a very dark dirt road to this place, some signs are available to lead you there but if you don't have a car, you will be stuck in there, taxis are rarely available to take you to the town area. Pool is nasty, can't see the bottom of it, rooms in the back are TERRIBLE, hotel promises Wi-Fi in all rooms, good luck with that, only in the lobby which is close to 100 degrees hot.
A/C in the room given to us # 7 not working properly, they gave us a fan which was full of dust, pictures are enclosed for you guys to make up your mind.
Premium bedding, maybe in the hotel's owners house, I was able to squeeze the top mattress with my weak left hand, sheets are from the 80's.
Ceiling tiles were falling, TV from the 80's as well with really bad reception.
If you do happen to get a suite, your view is going to be a dirt alleyway, not clean and an open field that has been turned into a dump with livestock roaming by.
Pictures don't lie.
We were told that our so called room, had ocean view, lie...Only view was a coconut palm tree and house in front of it.
Restaurant service is very limited, don't expect much from it.
We had a two 2 day reservation, we left right after breakfast after the first night, with all of these issues, I spoke with general manager/cook/front desk person/house and ground keeper because he was the only one there running the place, Mr. Michael James to ask for a full refund or partial one, I don't do YOGA but I'm flexible and before writing a bad review, I like to give an opportunity to make things right so now you know why I wrote review. RUN away from this place, please do yourself and family a chance to really enjoy TELA, is really a nice place to visit but skip this Grissy's Hotel dump.
Water faucet in bathroom leaked, they shut off the cold water valve to keep it from leaking.
the more I think about it, the more I regret not paying a little extra and finding a more friendly, clean, updated hotel.
You will get what you pay for.

My wife and I spent a week in Honduras along with our 13 year old son and spent 3 nights at Grissys. We found the staff to be very friendly and accommodating and the service was excellent. The owner, Michael, is always around and making sure you are enjoying your stay. The hotel is beautiful and quiet. Although it is not in the main part of Tela, it is a quick and inexpensive taxi ride to town. In our opinion, the beach in front of Grissys was nicer and quieter than in the main part of Town. When planning our trip i had anticipated having dinner in town at least once. After we ate at Grissys our first night, we enjoyed the food so much that we decided to eat there all 3 nights. The menu has plenty of choices and the food was excellent and also reasonably priced. Their food was the best we had on our entire trip. We stayed in the main building on the 3rd floor with a patio that had a great view of the pool, beach and surrounding area. The room was large and clean and the hotel is well decorated with many murals and paintings throughout. The pool was very nice and the bar and restaurant are right next to it. We were very happy with our decision to stay at Grissys and would definitely recommend it.

Generally, you get what you pay for. But, in this case, we were very disappointed because they promised some things that were not granted. First, they promise Wifi. Yes, there was wifi. But, only in in the UN-AIR CONDITIONED lobby. Also, they promise premium bedding. But, the bed spread looked (and felt) like it was from 30 years ago. The bed could be squeezed with one hand where my finger and thumb can actually touch. The sheets were okay, but I would not consider them premium.

Is it close to the beach, yes. But, they don't take the time to clean the beach or the short walk to the the water. It is full of trash. Is is difficult to get to? Yes, but there are plenty of signs. The pool was standard of others we saw in Honduras. Is it worth the $70 we paid per night? Not at all in comparison to similar hotels we stayed at on our trip.

The only reason it didn't get one star is because the breakfast was prepared fresh and was not so bad.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely not. I would not recommend it to you either.

A fantastic way to start our tour of Honduras with a 3 night stay at Grissy's in Tela before working our way out to the Bay Islands due to the abundance of day-tours in the area.

The food was a good bargain and had no complaints from anyone in the group. They were also great about extending their restaurants hours for us due to some early mornings and late nights.

We stayed in the 3-bed suite which was massive to say the least; you can bring the whole family. Featured a large bathroom (with hot water). Had a kitchenette, and a private balcony with stairs leading down to the pool/bar area.

Just a few steps more to the beach. Miles of sand which was practically deserted (minus a few locals).

The owner Michael was so great, and speaks perfect English (and was prompt to respond to any e-mail inquiries including how to get there from San Pedro Sula. We even spent a few hours chatting over great wine on a quieter night. The other staff were also great and very accomodating.

I cannot say enough great things about this place and would love to visit again.

Had to stop here for new year's eve on way back from Trujillo. Based my choice on Trip Advisor, and for the first time regretted it. We reserved via phone, they demanded full payment in advance through bank deposit, and did not make clear we were getting the second rate rooms in the back of the pool with zero view and little comfort, (we did not leave because we had payed already).
The main building does not look bad at all, but for the prices they have I'd much rather go the extra money for Telamar. The owner and service staff were kind and hepful. The beach is close, which is a plus, but the place is a bit off the tracks if you don't know your way around this city. The pool is really small, but the outdoor cafeteria next to it is a very nice place to have breakfast in.

Grissy's is an excellently run hotel. Everything works well and the service is superb and personalized from the moment they meet you. I traveled with my husband and 22 year old daughter. We paid to have the hotel pick us up at the San Pedro Sula airport for the 90 minute ride to Tela. ($25 a person, $20 if the group is larger). Our rooms were large, well air-conditioned , and spotlessly clean. It is safe to leave valuables in the room. The pool while not huge is large enough and is kept clean and refreshingly cool .One can always find a shaded spot to sit nearby. Grissy's is just outside of town (a 10 minute taxi ride or 20 minute beach walk) and is just 50 yards from an almost private beach. Getting around is no problem as the hotel gladly arranges for taxis or for tours to pick you up there. Having a restaurant open all day is convenient as is having washer/dryers om-site and staff who will do the laundry. Guests include not only travelers from abroad but people from neighboring areas who come for meals and a swim or for a get-away weekend. This is a family hotel that I recommend for people of all ages except those who want to carouse until the wee hours. It is expanding a bit and will probably have 20 rooms when finished. The hotel owner is a font of wisdom and he alway guided us right!
