If we are satisfied with the price, we like to stay in hotels of the IBIS chain in Spain, France. They are well located, with a beautiful minimalist design and typical room layout, so you initially know where everything is. All this applies to the IBIS in Madrid. It is perfectly located 15 minutes walk from Atocha train station where we left. We checked in very late and left early enough, so we didn't order Breakfast. Photo of the room is two-year-old, now restyled.

Stayed here last night 08/12/20
The hotel is quite a basic Ibis but with a few luxuries and touches which make this hotel a pleasant stay on a budget, €50 more or less per night and €4-€5 extra for an express breakfast which was perfect for an early start
It's not just about the hotel and what it looks like and how it is finished its about the people that deliver that service and I have to say that I was really impressed by the receptionist. I checked in at around 12 at night and left just before 7am to catch at train to Malaga: the same receptionist check me in and out as she was doing the night shift. "Andrea" i think her name was on her name badge: I thought she was exceptional. I stay in hotels around 100 night per year and for me the service that I experienced here was excellent.........Thank you Andrea (Muchas Gracias Andrea)..........(Review by Andrew Mathews Viva Gym Spain) I hope to return soon

In a great location within easy walking distance of Plaza Mayor and Sol. Easy walk to Royal Palace and Retiro Park. We occupied a twin room with comfortable beds and bar fridge. Breakfast available from 6am on week days was excellent with plenty of choice from cereals , fruit , cheeses and salamis etc. No kettle in room but a coffee machine is available in the reception area for 2 Euro per cup.
We used the room service menu on the first day as we were too tired to dine out after 24 hrs of flying!
I must say a special thank you to Jorge for assisting us with directions on the map and being very helpful at all times. Also Laura who checked us in with a warm greeting and smile.

The pros:

Great location; helpful staff and clean.

The cons:

I have stayed in Ibis Style hotels in Laos and the UK before and have found them to be good value for money.

Sadly, this time, I was highly disappointed.

We were in Madrid for business and I ended up being given a single room. The room was the size of a children’s small bedroom; just room for a bed and not much else with the window overlooking an internal staircase.

Bizarrely, the floor’s corridor was very wide .. so why so much room for a corridor and not much space for the rooms themselves is beyond me.

Anyway, the decor is tired and needs an update and I would argue Ibis management in Spain needs to rethink the use of the space the next time the hotel is renovated.

But the most off-putting thing was an appalling smell from the shower drain; so strong it made me gag. I alerted the front desk clerk who was very sweet and said the hotel was fully-booked and unable to change rooms. I asked that someone look at the drain the next day (which they did). After emptying all of my shower gel down the drain in an attempt to offset the smell, I headed to bed. Just as I was about to go to sleep, the front desk called at 11:30pm and said a room was free. But I was too tired to take up the offer. The next day, hotel maintenance took a look and agreed there was an issue and then I was told it had been fixed. The smell was a little bit better but did not disappear altogether.

In any case, I did check Trip Advisor reviews and I was not the first to complain about strong smells from the drains in the bathroom. Clearly there is an issue with the hotel’s plumbing which needs to be fixed.

Conclusion: Look elsewhere for an excellent-priced hotel in central Madrid.

Booked this hotel on all.Accor website with some excitement about its proximity to the major museums especially Prado. Checked in and was flabbergasted to realize how noisy the room was. Sound from any activity in the hallway, nearby rooms or upstairs seemed to reverberate and amplify against walls and floors, as if there was construction/remodeling and moving of furniture going on. Went to ask the front desk why it was this noisy, she said maybe it was the maids, and that they'd be going home soon. I also mentioned that the safe in my room was locked, so I could not use it. Staff said she'd send someone. By the time we got back in the evening the room was as loud as before, the safe still locked. Too late to move that night, I had to look for a new place for the following nights. What a waste of time. Turned out, the 4-star hotel less than 50 feet away cost 70% of what I paid for this Ibis Style. Booking on Ibis/accor's own website in this case turned out to be totally uncompetitive.

I had made a booking for 2 nights and this was a non refundable booking. Unfortunately, the Veeo from hotel informed me that another guest had fallen sick and had not checked out due to which my room wasn’t ready. I arrived in Madrid at 7pm in the evening to find out that room wasn’t available. They decided to shift me to a nearby hotel where the hotel paid 150 euros and asked me to pay for the second night at that hotel myself and I was told by the hotel that I’ll be getting a refund of 130 euros and 8000 points and I had to oblige to that request from the hotel since the room wasn’t ready and paid 150 euros for the other hotel myself. Once I left Madrid Veeo went back on her word and told us that she told never told us to take the second night there and they scammed me of 8000 points which converts to 160 euros. This is just not acceptable on your end and I am superiorly disappointed with the kind of treatment that I got in this matter.

Good morning Thank you very much for our comment and for giving us the possibility of explain the situation. We are going to inform you about this situation with your reservation in our hotel. You had a reservation in our hotel per two nights. This reservation was paid with 160 € in points. The rest was non-refundable with prepayment. Total cost of the reservation. 463.36 €. 160 € payed with points and 303.36 € prepayment. We have a problem in the hotel your arrival day because one person who had to leave the hotel was ill at the hospital and was impossible for them to leave the room. We following the rules of relocation look for another hotel for you with higher category and to 20 meters from our hotel. As I had explained before, your reservation was per two nights. The cost of the first night was 332.50 € and the second night was 130.86 €, the cost of the night of Saturday is not the same of the night of the Sundays. We offer you stay in the other hotel the first night and come back to our hotel second night. As compensation for the inconvenience, we invited you to breakfast on both days, which had a cost of 28 €, and we told you that the second night here was free, so we returned the amount of the second night, that is, 130.86 €, on the bank card with which you paid, in the amount of the second night. We invoice per the payment of the first night the amount of 160 € with points and 172.50 € with money from the prepayment. Total 332.50 €. We have already paid the other hotel the amount of the first night. The other hotel although has higher category and higher rates, keep the same rate for you. We paid to the other hotel the same amount and we have send you the reservation with this cost. In the morning when you had to make the change, you came to breakfast and told us you preferred to stay at the other hotel. We offered to go help you with the luggage, but you said you preferred to stay at the other hotel. We informed you that the second free night was at our hotel, as we could not take care of the second free night at another hotel. We clearly informed you that if you stayed at the other hotel, it was already at your expense. We had already reimbursed you for the second night. You accepted it. In addition, as compensation, we have credited your account with the points corresponding to the total amount of your stay, although you don´t stay in our hotel, we underestand the problem came from us. At no time did we inform you that we were going to reimburse you for the points he used to pay, since it was part of the payment for the first night. We understand that with all these measures we have sufficiently compensated you since we offered you a free night in our hotel and you refused. We can do no more. We hope you understand the situation. Above all, what matters to us is that you eliminate the idea that the hotel has defrauded you, as this is not true and your opinion is totally based on erroneous information. Nor do we understand the personal attack on a staff member with a direct insult, as this person is an employee of the hotel and only represents and acts under the policy of the hotel. We think she deserves an apology from you, but we leave this to your discretion. With nothing more to say, we send you our best regards and hope that this explanation is sufficient for you. Thank you very much. Carmen Gomez General Manager

This Ibis is located on the edge of the central part of Madrid, but still a good location. The rooms themselves were spacious and the air-conditioning worked really well. Only critique is that the soap in the bathrooms was a multi-purpose soap for hand, body, and hair.

Stay here if you want to be a little outside of the craziness of the touristy areas, yet within a 10 min walk of it all.

Location is everything when staying in a city on a short break and this IBIS Styles has a great location. Within walking distance to the great museums and El Retiro park in one direction and the great public spaces of Sol and Mayor in the other. As well as that it is close to a number of Metro stations that will get you quickly to any other part of Madrid on your trip. The area itself is full of life with a never ending number of bars, cafes and restaurants to meet all your requirements. The hotel itself is bright and colourful with friendly efficient staff. The room was big with a comfy bed and the breakfast a pleasant surprise with lots of options hot and cold. Madrid is a great city with lots to see and do.

I stayed at the hotel for 8 nights , in room 101 in September. The hotel staff especially Aisha and her other colleagues at the reception were very helpful , attentive, professional and efficient . The hotel is tucked away in a quiet street though it is centrally located and is a walkable distance to all the main tourists' attractions of Madrid. The hotel room was clean , comfortable and cozy . The Wi-Fi was working very well and the air condition was working great. I enjoyed my stay there and highly recommend it .

The hotel is located in the privileged area of Prado (just behind Plaza de Santa Ana, and close to the best museums and many restaurants). The room was spacious and clean, the hotel is beautiful and has an excellent structure, and the breakfast is complete. All the staff showed cordiality, friendliness and professionalism; therefore, I make a point of recording the compliments on this channel so that your work is properly valued and recognized, namely:

Reception: Andrea, Cova, Bego, Marina, Miguel and Maricarmen.
Breakfast: Monica.

In this regard I would like to highlight the work of Monica, who were always willing to help showing a good will beyond what was expected for the fulfillment of her duties.
