Detailed Reviews
Stayed for 2 nights during Christmas and were really impressed, we booked on a whim with little research so were a little apprehensive. Getting to the hotel was simple via the metro, it involves 3 changes but very simple to follow and cost 6 Euro each so well worth it! Metro station is literally opposite the hotel, so location wise is great!
Check in was fast and easy, all staff we met during our stay were pleasant and helpful. Room was on the small side but fine as we were hardly there. Beds were comfortable and a good size. Room included standard amenities; Shampoo, Shower Gel, Towels, Fridge etc. Shame we didn't have a kettle but was not the end of the world.
We walked everywhere during our stay and we able to walk to the main square in just under 15 minutes so we were pleased with the location.
We didn't have breakfast included in our stay so cannot comment.
Check out was simple and fast. Recommended hotel, not a fancy stay but that was not needed as we were only in the room for the bare minimum.

Many thanks for your kind comments, we are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. For a next stay check for availability in a superior room or junior suite, as these rooms are equipped with a coffee machine Nespresso style that also works as a kettle. Best regards. Mercedes - Customer Service.

This is truly a wonderful hotel and is perfectly located close to the heart of Madrid. I recently stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and was instantly impressed when I walked into the lobby as the environment was welcoming as well as the staff whom are very pleasant. The hotel is very well connected to local buses and metro lines. The beds are very comfy too which is what you need after exploring the wonderful streets of Madrid. The hotel also offers a bag drop so you can leave your bags after checking out. The bar is great too and has a good selection of alcohol. I would like to add that I would stay at this hotel again and to thank all the staff who made my stay special.

We had a 4 day city break in January 2020 and stayed at this hotel on a room and bed breakfast basis. The hotel is a great location for sight seeing and we managed to walk to all our planned itinerary. The hotel as all the facilities you need and the buffet breakfast is of a high quality. The only issue we had was there was not a single english speaking entertainment channel on the TV. The reception staff were very friendly and helful and the room was cleaned to a high standard every day.

I recently had a five night stay here at the Puerta de Toledo hotel in Madrid. I arrived late in the evening at the hotel from the airport via the Cercanías to Piramides station, where the hotel was a five minute walk away.
Check in was a breeze from the friendly receptionist and I was given a keycard to my room up on the 6th floor. I was in a double room, which was of a decent size. I was staying on a room only basis, but the hotel did offer breakfast.
I had a room with an inward view onto a small courtyard, the decor was tasteful with modern furnishings. The bed had a firm but comfortable mattress and the room was cleaned daily.
Overall I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, and would certainly stay here again.

This was a perfect hotel for us, we were on a three night break in Madrid( It turned into four nights but that is another story!!) and location and price were key.
We booked as part of a British Airways package and the price we paid was excellent considering the service we received. We were about a ten minute walk from the Plaza Mayor and only a couple of minutes to the nearest tube stop.
Staff were really friendly, language was sometimes a bit of a struggle but we always got there in the end, i consider that my issue and we are working on learning a bit of basic Spanish before travelling again. Breakfast was included in our package and it was actually very good. There was a selection of hot food as well as, meats and cheeses, fresh fruit and yoghurts. There was also a nice selection of pastries and as much fruit juice and hot drinks as you wanted.
I loved the reception, bar area. This is a hotel in a prime location and it seemed really busy with local people as well, especially in the mornings. This meant that there was always loads of hustle and bustle which really appeals to me.
As mentioned earlier, our flight was cancelled and so we had an extra night in Madrid, this was no problem at all. We were given an extra night with no fuss and allowed to stay in our existing rooms, bonus!!
All in all, an excellent hotel and one that I would be happy to visit again

Arrived earlier than official check-in time and were just going to leave our bags and go out and explore the area, but were offered a room straight away, which was great.
Room was on the 6th floor and had nice comfy beds, enough storage space, a good sized bathroom, an excellent air-con and a real bonus of a lovely cold fridge, especially since the temperature was in the mid 30’s outside, the room was more than adequate for our 3 night stay. Hotel has a small bar & lounge inside and a terraced area outside, prices were very reasonable especially for a city centre hotel. Didn’t have the breakfast so can’t comment on that. The metro station is just across the road and there are bus stops and a taxi rank virtually right outside the hotel. The dead centre of Madrid is an easy 20 minute walk away, so the hotel is in a near perfect location.
At check-in we were given a booklet from the hotel which they had produced themselves which had 3 different walking itineraries in it, with maps, suggestions and a little information on the sites in the booklet, some of which were Madrid’s hidden gems.
Excellent little book, which we used many times, thank you.

This was our first visit to Madrid, in which we stayed 4 nights at this wonderful hotel.
After arriving at the airport we took the Metro, which was easy to work out, even with switching between 3 different lines, but for 11 euros for the both of us, it was very cheap. The only downside was the steep steps when carrying your luggage in a crowded area is a little challenging.
We arrived at the hotel and were greeted very warmly at reception. We had a standard room on the 3rd floor which was extremely pleasant and very clean and well decorated.
All the main city centre sights are within a 15 -20 walk, including the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor. The weather was fantastic and we ended up walking 43 miles in 4 days around Madrid!
The only time we caught the bus was a trip to the El Retiro park, which is on the other side of the city to the hotel. The C2 takes you there and the bus stop is practically outside the hotel.
The breakfast was wonderful, a large selection of breads, cakes, fruit and hot dishes, which kept us going all day. We would definitely stay at this hotel again as it is in a very safe and pleasant neighbourhood with cafes, bars and supermarkets close by.
We always take our travel kettle with us so when we wake up we can have a tea first thing before going to breakfast. There is a large cold fridge in the room which you can store milk in as well as anything else you wish to buy from the local supermarket. We would like to thank Gonzalo for all his help and kindness he showed us during our cancelled flight issue, due to freezing fog back home in the UK. We were so grateful for his quick response in obtaining another room for us, to allow us to extend our stay in this great city by another night/day.

This was our second visit to Madrid in 8 months, as we loved it there so much the first time and there was nowhere else we were going to stay, after such a fantastic stay in this wonderful hotel in January.
After arriving at the airport we took the fixed standard charge (30 Euros) cab straight to the hotel and upon arrival, were welcomed by Sandra, who greeted us very warmly at reception. We had contacted Gonzalo before we arrived to let him know we were returning and he had sorted us out with a lovely quiet Superior room on the 7th floor, which was so lovely of him.
As mentioned in the review in January, the main city centre sights are within a 15 -20 walk, including the Royal Palace and Plaza Mayor. The weather was once again fantastic, only this time approximately 20C warmer and once again, the proximity to everything meant we ended up walking another 27 miles in the 3 days we were in Madrid as everything is just so accessible via foot!
The only time we caught the bus was another trip to the El Retiro park, which is on the other side of the city to the hotel. The C2 takes you there and the bus stop is practically outside the hotel. We had another great few hours in the park, this time focusing on the upper East side of it, where there are some spectacular gardens, with lots of roaming peacocks to admire.
The breakfast at the hotel was again wonderful, with a large selection of breads, cakes, fruit and hot dishes, which was enough to keep us full until we saw all those lovely Jambon and Manchego takeaway places, where you have to indulge, when you're in Madrid. Emoji
As we stated last time, we will always stay at this hotel from now on, when we return to Madrid, which we will, as it is in a very safe and pleasant neighbourhood with cafes, bars and supermarkets close by, indeed our favourite Spanish gin (Larios) was cheaper at the local supermarket than the big chain supermarket (El Cortes Ingl`es) branches in the heart of the city.
We always take our travel kettle with us so when we wake up we can have a tea first thing before going to breakfast. There is a large cold fridge in the room which you can store milk in as well as anything else you wish to buy from the local supermarket.
A couple of minor issues and requests with/for the room were dealt with efficiently and always with a smile by Sandra during our stay and it was fabulous to catch up with Gonzalo again on our last day at the hotel, when he returned from time off.
In summary, another fantastic stay in a fantastic hotel (how it is not more than a 3 Star is a travesty of justice) in a thoroughly enjoyable and walkable capital city (the tallest in Europe) and the hotel lived up to it's quality from our last stay. A special shout to both Sandra & Gonzalo for making the trip extra special and I'm sure we'll return at some point in 2024 to renew our love affair with both Madrid and this great hotel, with wonderful staff.

Handy for metro and an easy 15 min walk to city centre, we enjoyed a couple of nights here. Staff were helpful, room was large and clean and comfortable with a large bed. Didn't use the bar or cafe. Breakfast was perfectly good in pleasant basement area. It's a 10 min walk to Calle de la cava baja with all its tapas bars

Located about 15 minutes walk from the Palace & Cathedral in the south of the city (the area called Imperial) makes this hotel a great base for a city break. If one really has to stay in the centre of things - with all the hustle and bustle - so be it but providing mobility is not an issue staying slightly off centre is recommended.
This is a very clean hotel with all the amenities you would expect from an establishment that is serving the tourist trade and business travellers. All the staff we met were friendly and with pretty good English in our experience (better than my Spanish as the old joke goes). The shower worked well. The bed was not to my liking being a bit thin but for a few days it did the job. The nearest comparison I would make would be to a very good city centre Holiday Inn Express. Also, good locked room for luggage if needed
Other reviewers have said the breakfast was great but we did not have that experience on the day we used the breakfast room. I will put it down to an off day but it did seem a bit chaotic: not enough plates and cutlery, lack of replenishment, just about warm enough food and not actually much of a choice compared to other similar hotels. Not worth the 12 euros at time of writing. Fortunately the coffee shop in the hotel foyer is really good for a croissant and a coffee if that is all you need. And there are cafes close if something more substantive is needed. For this reason only Hotel Puerta de Toledo just misses a 5-star excellent from me. If I could give 4.5 I would!
Apart from the one niggle on the breakfast, no issue whatsoever recommending this hotel. Good price point, good location, nice people, clean and tidy. What more is needed?

Cerveceria el Cano just down towards to the river. Calle Cobos de Segovia 30, 28005 Madrid. I wrote a review. Not fancy but good food and reasonable prices
Don't think so, but there's a mini convenience store at the front desk.

West Midlands, United Kingdom364 contributions72 helpful votesHi, have just booked to visit here for the first time. Can anyone tell me which metro and line to take from the airport please?
Many thanks
I do not know the name of the line but the one to take you very close to the hotel is coloured green and the maps at the airport are easy to understand and follow. Don't forget that you need to buy a travel card in order to purchase your metro tickets, these can be purchased from the metro ticket point and can be used on most forms of travel, similar to our oyster card
They do. We arrived early & kept our bags at the hotel and went into town
