t's a good hotel located in an agreeable district in Barcelona near Hospital Clinic. Albeit it's not too close to the center – about twenty minutes walk -, it's very well connected. The building is rather solid and elegant both outside and inside, though it's not apparently soundproof.
The room I was allocated is rather small but comfortable anyway, especially the bed whose mattress has the adequate toughness to assure a good sleep mainly for people having some sort of backache. The desk is also suitable for working comfortably. They made a table lamp available to me so that I could read and write with no problem whatsoever. Since, as stated above, the building isn't apparently soundproof I sometimes heard the voices of the next door neighbours contingent upon the kind of people concerned. That was a bit annoying and made me once even knock on the wall in order to try to have the necessary calm for sleeping. The partition wall betwixt my room and that on the left as one comes into either sometimes got warped when pushed against from the other side.
The staff is rather kind and helpful both the people working at the front desk and at the restaurant as well as the room maids who certainly do an excellent job.
The breakfast is good and abundant, particularly the sweet fruits and the cheese of diverse types and also the croissants and other pastry. Some days there is Spanish omelette, which is usually very well cooked and tasty. That breakfast is therefore enough for one to keep on for several hours without feeling hungry again. At the same restaurant, to wit Restaurant Mares, one can have the other two day meals. I sometimes had lunch there. There is a set menu for those meals. Among the dishes included in it there is a sirloin steak, the ordering of which entails the payment of a moderate supplement, what is worthwhile taking the good quality of the meat into consideration. The only flaw in that restaurant is that sometimes the TV set is on at the same time as music, which doesn't make much sense actually. Whenever I asked them to stop the music however my entreaty was kindly acceded and implemented.
By and large therefore, it's a recommendable place to stay while in Barcelona and, by the way, not expensive.

The decor of the hotel was cute but their rooms were just adequate. The breakfast buffet was OK also. Sadly, the lobby always had a foul smell to it so we didn’t really stay there much. Also, disappointing was that the Hotel Restaurant in Bar were closed so that did not make us happy at all ..the breakfast buffet also closed too early if you chose to enjoy the nightlife

First of all to clear things up, I check 2 days late, with one night left only to my reservation, due to a health issue, of which the reception clearly asked why did I even bothered to check in for just one night, although I paid for the whole period.

The maids were unprofessional, hitting the elevator’s buttons while screaming and cussing,

The double bed was actually two single beds close to each other with a gap in mid,

We told the reception that the air conditioning was not working properly, whom replied that it was our fault that we check in late, and they cant help us with anything,

We told them that the mini fridge wasn’t cooling, of which they replied the same as above.

The bathroom wasn’t clean, the towels weren’t clean,

Not recommended at all,

A really lovely hotel within easy reach of the metro and restaurants.. Lovely friendly receptionists.
Nice breakfast. Lovely rooms. Comfy beds, good air con. Would have liked to try the restaurant but it was closed over the bank holiday weekend when we were there. Will definitely stay here again.

The Zenit Borrell hotel is a very nice 4 star hotel at good value somewhere in the region of £70 per couple per night Bed and Breakfast.

It is nearest the Hospital Clinic underground (5 mins walk) not URGELL as it is too far to walk up a hill (about a mile). On Sundays some of the entrances to the Hospital Clinic are closed but there are entrances nearby.

The rooms are stylish and modern and the breakfast is fine (cooked as well as buffet). They closed the bar one night at about 10pm and the barman told us to use the minibar in our rooms, which was not overly expensive.

The drawback is the underground although it is near line 5 (L5), the changes to the main underground arertuous - it means walking down long tunnels. The trade off is the hotel is good value but location is problematic if you want to do the tourist bits.

The hotel gave me erroneous information on the fountains at Las Espanya. They are spectacular and are on show on Fridays and Saturdays only - we were told we could see them after 9pm and got there to discover it was a lot earlier. (The fountains seem to be very mysteriously scheduled, tourists guides are not plentiful).

Watch out for pickpockets:it is serious problem in Barcelona. I was accosted twice once at the Sants Underground Station when I bought a tourist ticket (and the female ticket seller took an age to serve me . I then went through the barrier and a young man aged in his early 20s tried to touch my pockets. The second time was on Las Ramblas in the evening. If there is a group of you always had a "tail end charlie" to watch your backs, and when you get on the underground go to the middle of the train so you are less isolated. Do not do the obvious things such as display your camera etc.

The Graudi bits are really worth a visit and the ordinary people of Barcelona are very helpful and frendly.

You will be asked for money by unrelenting beggars, some hold babies in the Gothic area: Wise up to the dangers of Barcelona, but so long as you are sensible you should be ok.

It is an interesting city - the main cathedral is really worth a visit, I had not realised that it is completely unfinished and the whole building is almost a building site . It was really impressive inspite of that.

Regards

I recently returned from a two night pre cruise stay at this Hotel. After occupying my room for only one and a half hours at 11.30pm I heard someone keep trying to open the door.
Suddenly the door opened and a man entered the room, all the lights were on and I was watching a film on the television. I got out of bed as quick as I could for a 73 year old to confront the intruder who tried to tell me he was a maintenance man come to do a repair as there was a notice on the door to that effect when it was a do not disturb notice.
All though I am quite old maybe my one saving grace was that I am quite large in stature weighing some 260 pounds. The man left the room and i quickly got dressed and went down from our room on the top floor to report the matter to the receptionist.
I had to wait to report the intrusion as the single receptionist was busy. While I was waiting the Intruder that I had confronted came walking back into the hotel from outside. He soon realized who I was and left very quickly.
I then told the receptionist what I had happened and at first he suggested it may have been another hotel guest that was the intruder, here I must add that having been involved with the Criminal Justice System for almost thirty years in the UK I know when someone is trying to rob me.
The receptionist made a note of my complaint he also tried to say that my door must not of been closed properly or locked, I assured him that the door had been firmly closed and locked from the inside before the intruder entered.
The following morning I asked to see a manager and was told that there was not one on duty. I then asked if they had closed circuit television and that by looking at the recording I would be able to point out the intruder, this request they refused.
At no time did they want to involve the police.
This Intruder had good knowledge of the hotel layout as he was trying to rob me on the top floor of the hotel.
He in my opinion had either a pass key or some kind of tool to open doors. there was a indentation mark in the door frame opposite the door lock of which I have pictures of.
All in all there is little or no security in this Hotel they should have a duty of care for the safety and security of there guests, perhaps because if the robber had managed to steal some of my valuables they would use a disclaimer to say that the are not responsible for any loss you may suffer.

i was there with my wife and i choose it based on the comment of this site . but it was absolutely different . i never saw such a behavior from any reception in the world. i asked them to get fro me a train ticket and they said no it is not possible ( in Italy and also in Valencia they did it for me ). i asked them about direction , the good restaurant , ... but they do not help me at all.
the worse thing was the room . there was no air inside the room . the window opened to the patio and no circulation . the bath tub was dirty and the hole got stuck . i asked them several times but no answer. i was there at the end of April and i will never go again to this hotel . i don't understand who has written so many nice comment about this hotel , maybe they are hotel staff.

We stayed at the Zenit Conde de Borrell from 23 - 30 August on our first ever trip to Barcelona. The hotel was easy enough to find from the Metro at Hospital/Clinic but the area itself is very run-down with masses of closed-down shops, restaurants, offices and graffiti everywhere, not very appealing to walk around!

On arrival at the hotel, the lobby was bright, clean & welcoming and the staff were friendly and spoke great English. However, we were disappointed when getting to our room. Although clean and quite big, the room itself was very tired, the wallpaper was grubby and stained in places, the bed not comfortable and generally in need of a makeover. We were at the back of the hotel (we had asked for a front room with balcony or street view but didn't get one) and there was no view - we looked out onto the room of the building below and a kids playground.

The TV didn't work when we first arrived and throughout the entire week the safe in the room was broken and maintenance didn't ever come to repair it. The reception staff (Salvador in particular!) were great at storing our valuables in the main hotel safe each day but this did mean we had to hand in things to them each day and get a ticket instead of leaving them securely in our room to access as we needed. We did complain about this to Expedia and the hotel offered to allocate us to another room but on viewing this was a smaller room and the safe was also broken in this room so we stayed where we were rather than re-pack and move 2 doors down the corridor!

We only ate once in the hotel, ordering room service after a long day exploring...I had to go downstairs and ask for a room service menu as there wasn't one in the room (slightly defeating the point of room service!) but the food when it arrived about 20 mins later was hot and tasted really nice. The drinks we had ordered at the same time unfortunately took ages to arrive & we had both already finished our meals by the time they came!

In general the hotel was OK, the staff were nice and it is pretty central for access to the metro and so on. However, it is definitely not 4 star as it is rated and the place is in need of a re-decoration. I would probably stay nearer to the Placa d'Catalunya or Avienida Diagonal on a return trip as they are equally close to a metro but not too close to the Ramblas to attract ridiculous prices.

My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights 2 weeks ago. It's kind of off the beaten path, but, we liked that aspect of it! It's close to some good restaurants and nice places to walk around-most places are open late too.

The hotel itself was easy to find from the street since it's bright lights are hard to miss. The hotel staff was helpful and although we didn't eat in the hotel during our stay, other guests said the food was good. The bar downstairs is reasonably priced as well.

On to the room: you need to place your room key into a slot in order to maintain electricity. The room is a decent size for 2 people and has a big bathroom- you will need to get used to the half glass on the shower door though. There is a safe to put your belongings in which was a nice addition. The tv doesn't get great signal and there isn't much in English, but who travels to Europe to watch tv anyways right? :-)

This hotel is also about 1/4 mile from the hop on hop off bus if you choose to do that. It is possible to walk to Las Ramblas, we did it, but it is a pretty good trek.

We were satisfied with this hotel overall and would definitely return if we go back to Barcelona!
