Nestled in the bustling cityscape, the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel garners praise for its amenities, such as the lauded breakfast buffet and the inviting rooftop bar, alongside comfortable and well-equipped rooms. Guests are charmed by the hotel's atmosphere, enjoying tranquil, cozy accommodations. However, opinions on cleanliness and room maintenance vary, with some travelers expressing disappointment. While the location is celebrated for its convenience to local attractions, the perceived value is contentious, as some guests question the hotel's purported 5-star quality, expecting higher standards in facilities and service, which has received mixed responses.

My wife and I just returned from a week in Barcelona over Christmas and we really enjoyed our stay at the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel! We contacted the Navigator staff prior to our arrival and they were very helpful with information & questions on everything from tours, dining options and activities over the holidays to a request for early check in when we arrived on Christmas Eve. The location was superb as it is walking distance to most major attractions and the Metro is close by to explore the other areas of this beautiful city. Our quiet & spacious room had a comfortable bed, large bathroom, coffee / tea pot, safe, small refrigerator and a large TV with some English language channels. After a day of sightseeing it was great to be able go up to the rooftop bar area and enjoy a view of the Sagrada Familia and sunsets over the city, we also had a nice view from our room 725. We want to personally thank the hotel management and staff for all your help during our wonderful stay!

Location: This hotel is situated a block away from the part of Passeig De Gracia where you will find the luxury brands. A Global Blue lounge is a short 5-8 minute walk, which makes the VAT refund process extremely convenient. It goes without saying that you will never have trouble finding places to eat within walking distance. Since it’s only a block away from a busy thoroughfare, finding a taxi is never a problem.

Service: Unless they are helping a guest, you will never pass the lobby without being warmly acknowledged by the front desk staff and the bellhops. At breakfast, Thomas really goes out of his way to help guests. The American breakfast buffet offers a wide selection of breads, pastries, cereal, meat, fruits, and other breakfast choices. The common areas of the hotel are clean, and housekeeping does a superb job of tidying up the room and replenishing bathroom supplies.

What’s disappointing: My husband’s Bonvoy status is not Ambassador Elite, but it’s high enough that our requests for a high-floor room are always granted. This is the first time that didn’t happen so it was a big let-down, especially since the hotel is taller than the buildings around it, so the higher floors have a better view. We don’t mind paying extra for a room in a higher floor if that is offered, but there was only one type of room available when we booked, so we had no choice but to just put in the request for a higher floor. In addition, I don’t get the communal shampoo, etc. It’s not surprising to see that in their Select and below hotel categories, but not the category Renaissance belongs to.

We had the most wonderful stay due to the amazing personal service of all staff! This was the best experience we ever had in a hotel. Everyone was so helpful and went above and beyond any expectation. Upon arrival the room had been decorated with balloons to welcome us in our new country ( we were moving to Spain) and there were snacks and drinks and very touching handwritten letters for both my daughter and me acknowledging our big move. The front desk staff which was such a pleasure to deal with, had researched things to do for us and gave us great tips before abs throughout our stay, making bookings at nice restaurants and finding us tables at the last minute. I received personalized welcoming emails before we arrived and everyone knew my daughters name upon arrival. When we would request something in the room the delivery was extremely prompt and always delivered with a smile. We had the most amazing time and couldn’t recommend the hotel more. The staff is of an amazing caliber and you can tell they are passionate about what they are doing! Everyone was without fail fabulous but a very special thank you for Beatrize who was so very nice for my daughter and really made her day(s)! Location of the hotel is ideal for walking to most places of interest in Barcelona and very close to metro and train station. Rooms are quiet and comfortable.

We really cannot recommend this hotel due to it’s misleading 5 star status.

The standard rooms and city view rooms are tiny. The queen size beds are hard and very uncomfortable - a rude shock to those of us who are loyal Marriott members.

The bathroom is small and has a shower/tub combination which isn’t fully enclosed, so the floor easily gets wwt. There is no bidet and the toilet paper is a step above sandpaper.

On the plus side, the location is very good (walking distance to the top 2 Gaudi sites) and the breakfast buffet is of high quality.

UNBEATABLE LOCATION!? I am in the travel industry and stay at hotels all over the world and for me location location location is so important. This property sincerely has an unbeatable location. Once you figure out the lay of the land in Barcelona you will realize how amazing the location is! Also the rooms are excellent. Most European hotels have small windows and small rooms and bathrooms. This one has huge windows giving a lot of natural light in the room and the bathrooms are large and luxurious. The rooms were also exceptionally clean! The staff at the hotel is very friendly and helpful. Also the breakfast buffet which is fee based or maybe included in your room package was also excellent and had a wide variety of options. I especially liked their fresh juicer -you could put your fresh fruits in and walk away with a glass of fresh juice! The rooftop lounge was really nice and offered comfortable sitting and a nice relaxing area to hang out. I highly recommend this hotel and hope to return to Barcelona soon and this will be my new home away from home

I made an error with my reservation by booking 5 nights instead of 4, noticing only the day before check in. I called from the U.K. and spoke to Yohanna, who was absolutely delightful and edited my reservation without any issues.

Upon arrival, all staff members greeted me with huge smiles and offers of help with my bag. I was checked in quickly by Magdalena, who was equally delightful, even offering me a small bottle of water since I had walked through the city to reach the hotel and was clearly a little hot!

As a Bonvoy Titanium I had been generously pre-allocated a 2 category upgrade from the most basic room, to a room on the top floor (10) with a stunning view across the city to Sagrada Familia, and beyond. A personal welcome note and some local specialty chocolates were already waiting in the room. How nice!

The room was small but modern and very comfortable. Shower pressure was high and the room had a window that opened enough to let a nice breeze through, and really good blackout curtains. In keeping with many European hotels, there was no milk in the room (not even powdered creamer), however the bar staff were more than happy to pour me a jug full which kept fresh in the in room fridge. There is also a small mini-supermarket immediately in front of the building.

As others have mentioned in reviews dating back a few months, there is construction outside the hotel currently (Feb 23). The hotel is situated on a junction of two major streets. One of these streets is in the process of being pedestrianised. When completed I think it will really enhance the location and there will still be vehicle access right up to the hotel door via the other side. Meanwhile, it is not causing any problems for hotel guests that I could see, though my room was at the rear of the building.

Overall, I would look forward to returning next time I’m in Barcelona.

Hotel room & bathroom are fine size , la rambla street is 10 mins walk and Gracia plaza with many shops is 5 mins walk breakfast is standard with self service for coffee & juice.
Advertised pool on rooftop is scam which don’t reach the level of hut tub even !
Rooftop service and team are very welcoming in contrast to others specially in breakfast room and reception as following :
-My husband has a Titanium Marriott membership …we arrived at the hotel around 4 pm when the lobby was full of tourist groups, we headed to an empty counter that has “elite” sign on it…the girl on reception told him sorry you have to wait in the line as all our guests are members of Marriott !
What a rude answer specially that we have a sleeping baby in our hands and she defiantly was free.
We waited in the line and the guy who checked us in was welcoming and got us a complementary gift to the room, free cola & beer in the minibar & late check out.
Moving to breakfast room we stayed at the hotel for 3 days …all days no one welcomed us they would just ask you whats your number !
the service was so slow ordering an omelet would take 15 mins to come …when we asked the waiter she was also rude and said that everyone here order omelet !!!
In summary, if we didn’t want to use our bonvoy points we would have booked another hotel with higher standard in the same price
If you are looking for a standard 3 stars room & service then book this hotel.
This hotel definitely should not be 5 stars nor a Marriott Bonvay

My wife and I were spending two days in Barcelona and while we had stayed in most of the Bonvoy hotels in Barcelona we had never visited the Renaissance Barcelona so we decided to give it a try. Our expectations were that the hotel was a premium hotel not at the level of a JW Marriott or RItz Carleton but a step above a Marriott or Sheraton.
Even though I am a Platinum elite Bonvoy member I used two suite upgrades to get an upgraded room at the Renaissance Barcelona and was surprised when I received an ordinary room on the first floor facing a busy and noisy street. I was so surprised that I went back to the front desk thinking I had been given the wrong room. I was told that was the best room as the rooms on the first floor have higher ceilings. So, not a good start to the visit.
The rooms are ordinary, about the size of a normal hotel room with limited and low-quality furniture. The bathroom was small with a walkin shower and no tub. I would rate the rooms as between a Four Points and a Sheraton.
The reason to stay at the hotel would but its location, being about halfway between two main tourist sites in Barcelona, Sagrada Familia and Las Rambla.
The breakfast was well done and served a variety of items on the buffet including scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon as well as cereal, fruit and a variety of breads and pastries.
There was no wait to checkin and the person checking me in was friendly. Again the main problem I had was expectations. When you are expecting a Westin and you get a Four Points it is hard not to be disappointed.

Overall I thought the service was great, breakfast delicious, and location superb. But it’s a busy hotel so if you are hoping for a Marriott Bonvoy upgrade to a suite say, you will most likely come out disappointed. Details:
Service: amazing. I had a two night stay with my wife on December 28-30 and told them it was our honeymoon before I arrived. The hotel prepared a bottle of champagne and turron and fruits for us on arrival. We arrived after 11 pm exhausted and tired, and Karen was super friendly and helpful. Need to give her a shout out as she was able to push our energy level back up! Concierge was helpful.
Location: city centre with a 12 min walk to plaza Catalunya. A block away from the Gaudi House museum. Block or two away from branded shops a la Hermes, Chanel, and Gucci. McDonalds and Tapas places are all around there too. Close to passeig de gracia metro line.
Room: clean, standard room with queen size bed. Two medium bottles of complementary water prepared daily and promptly
Food: had the breakfast and the selection was vast on the buffet line. Fresh fruits, juices, pastries and bread, ham (though only have York not iberico ham), warm food selections (tortilla, sausages, bacon, mushrooms, vegetable stew) and freshly made eggs. Quite enjoyed it.
Marriott Bonvoy Privilege: everything works except suite upgrade. This place was full yet the likes of the W or Le Meridien had their suite available so probably easier to get upgrades there.
Overall: would go back and stay there though if I want to get a suite upgrade, I would not and stay in the other two

Very pleasant business hotel in a great location, close to everything but slightly removed from the tourist crowds. There is construction going on at this time (January 2023) in the street as they are widening the side walks to make it more pedestrian friendly, when finished it is going to be a very pleasant and quiet street. As it was you couldn't hear any noise in side of the hotel or in the rooms.

The service is excellent, very courteous and friendly, I especially would like to name Jose Maria in the breakfast room, and Montse in the front desk, both were particularly helpful and they remember you. But any member of the staff you encountered always had a smile and a greeting.

Breakfast buffet had enough of a selection to please almost anyone.

We had an upgraded room and it was very comfortable and roomy, can't comment on other rooms. This room had coffee maker and a free mini bar with water and sodas which was replenished daily. Again I don't know if this perk was just for this type of room or all rooms enjoy this service.

Would definitely come back next time we are in need of a hotel in Barcelona, without hesitation.
