Moxy London Excel's modern amenities, such as USB charging ports and high-quality toiletries, are appreciated by guests, although the rooms are sometimes criticized for being compact and lacking expected features. While service quality varies from commendable to lackluster, the cleanliness of the hotel consistently receives high marks for its pristine rooms and facilities, despite occasional cutlery oversights. Opinions on value are split, with some guests finding the pricing fair, but others frustrated by unexpected charges. The room's cleanliness and amenities are highlights, though their size and temperature control have room for improvement. The hotel's atmosphere is described as trendy and vibrant, offering a fresh and inviting experience.

Stayed here for 2 nights from a Friday to a Sunday. We came to London for our 5th anniversary. I've not stayed in a hotel like this before, the vibe is very young and quirky. I knew the rooms were small before I booked, but in my opinion there was enough room and clever space saving features like space under the end of the bed for suitcases. Our room was very clean and smelt fresh. Loved having a walk in shower cubicle rather than a shower over bath like most hotels. The hotel has a communal kitchen area, which was handy if you wanted extra tea/ coffee and to use a microwave. There was also a dedicated room with an ironing board and iron on our floor which was a nice touch. The hotel is near the city airport but rooms are clearly sound proofed as it felt so quiet and peaceful. Bed was comfy and had a great nights sleep. Good quality tv in the room and nice decor. The DLR station is 2 minute walk from hotel and takes you straight into central London. Would definitely stay again. Only slight complaint is that the lady who checked us in failed to offer us a welcome drink which everyone is entitled to so we had to ask the next day for one once we realised. Also we were charged £10 extra a night as a deposit which we will be refunded back but we were not notified of this on payment, only noticed when I checked my bank account. Other than that, a perfect stay.

Moxy is a good inexpensive brand and it does what it says on the tin. Its comfy, quirky and fun. My upgraded family room is actually a suite when the second bed is not in use so it was spacious but be aware that normal Moxy rooms are on the small side but still very nice and comfy.

This Moxy is alongside several other new hotels and there's not much else in the area but it has a great bar and offers food.

Don't think traditional Marriott because its not, its Moxy and thats fine for me!

Location was very handy, especially if you’re flying into London City airport & DLR station a 5 min walk from hotel. Stayed in a large family room with friends & it was spacious with a big bathroom. Breakfast was abysmal, very little options, poor taste, small portions and didn’t even bother going down on our second morning. Rooms are not sound proof, we unfortunately had neighbors blasting music at 6am one morning and had to go down to reception ( oh yh no phones in the rooms ) to complain before a member of staff could sort it out. Also heard foot steps of people on the floor above us.

Hi Dessiebabiie, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. It's great to read that you found your family room to be spacious and meet your needs. We would like to apologise, however, for any shortfall that you found with our breakfast. We do strive to provide an array of hot and cold options each morning, and if anything is missing or in short supply we would always encourage guests to make one of our team aware. As the breakfast is very much all-you-can-eat, there should likewise be no issues with portion sizes. We're also very sorry to hear that you were disturbed by other guests. As you mention, our team are always available at our 24 hour reception to help deal with any issues. While we don't provide phones in the rooms, our hotel number is a freepay line. We also support 24h mobile chat for Marriott Bonvoy members (free to join), so there will always be an array of options to get in touch with us. Best, Nick Captain

We stayed at this hotel Saturday the 4th for one night. We arrived from London City airport and this is within walking distance (if you like walking that is). We arrived early and our room was ready for us which is always nice! Check in was easy and staff were very friendly plus also offered a welcome cocktail after checking in. We only paid £30 something pound for the night so wasn’t expecting much and on entering the room we were very surprised had everything that was needed only downside was one pillow each and no cofffee or tea facilities. When the illuminated shelves were on you could see the dust and how badly scratched they were but this didn’t harm our stay and we slept very well.

We went out for dinner in Canary Wharf and on coming back to the moxy all the hotels along that road had big gangs of youths smoking cannabis outside which some people could find this intimidating especially if they were by themselves.

Our stay was a pleasant one and would recommend if the price was right.

Mixed bag review. I stayed in room 401 which is for assisted persons. Immediately I was impressed by the size of the room, with on the outset two televisions, a large bathroom and walk in area that contains the wardrobe. The bed is quite comfortable and a good size and I love the area that acts as a sort of living room.

The door to this room is hands-free so we can use the card or button to open and close the door brilliant for people with mobility issues . The room also looks incredibly clean and maintenance is kept excellent. Note the two large air conditioners which would be excellent in the summer months.

I also loved the little touches for example, the shower head is turned round so you don’t get splashed by cold water when you turn it on.

Slight negatives which annoyed me included the fact that one television I could not get to work no matter what I did and as both televisions are the same this confused me even more.

The temperature of the room was another issue. I am quite naturally warm however on this particular evening I was freezing cold and no matter what I did I could not get the room warm. my dad is an air-conditioning engineer so I’m pretty good at playing with things however I could not increase the temperature of the room to stay around 17.5° all night long. I was glad to jump in the car and get warm. I pressed every button every which way, but I could not get the room warm at all which will be great during the summer months but not April.

The lady on the front desk insisted I pay £10 holding charge on my credit card which will be refunded in five days time. I refuse to do this and after a slight debate she backed down. I never eat or drinking any hotels but she was very insistent, however I know many hotels fail to return this money. In the past I have also been charged for things I have not purchased so I try not to give them extra revenue for things I do not wish to have. She did mention breakages and damages however I thought this was when I got to my room and discovered the sofa was badly damaged in two areas (see photo) prior to my arrival.

The last thing that did annoy me a little bit was at 5 am my room stinks of breakfast and cooking. I ceiling circulation of air. Not good for me trying to lose weight.

All in all I do like this hotel, but if I do return, it would have to be to a different room. The venue is excellent visiting the Excel centre in London. There is also parking nearby shared with the Hilton hotel.

Hey WozzaBusiness, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a detailed feedback on your stay with us. We appreciate all feedback, good or bad, as this helps us improve the true MOXY experience. I am pleased to read that you enjoyed the size of our family rooms. I apologise regarding the TV issue and the temperature of the room, we have a heating/cooling system in place and not air-conditioning, so we either heat the room in the winter or cool the room in the summer, I am sorry if the temperature was not to your desired temperature. We do hope to see you again soon #atthemoxy ExCel soon. Kind Regards Kyle Benjamin-Jones Captain

stayed at Moxy for nights when my boyfriend came to the UK to visit.
apart from some of the shelves being a bit dusty, the place, in general, is quite decent. I love the interior design of the rooms and the reception. the bed was comfy and big. location was nice as well since it was literally just a 3-minute walk from the closet DLR station and it took only 15 mins to get the central London.
I recommend this hotel for couples for a short stay in London. I would also recommend this hotel for those who prefer staying at hotels that are far away from noisy neighbourhoods.

Great family fun hotel, very clean and well maintaned freindly staff with easy access from Royal Albert dock DLR station. The station is just 2 minutes walk. Don't be confused or think it as the Ecxel centre its two stations along the line.
Once inside you are met with a friendly smile and quick checkin plus a free Moxy cocktail Or have it later if you wish.
Rooms very clean and modern our room slept four one double bed plus one double sofa bed both large enough for large teenage boys.
Hotel had a funky youthful theme but no loud music to put seniors off using it .
we stayed one night had the breakfast which was value fo rmoney and filled two teenage boys no problem
Would reccomend this hotel tor anyone looking for a family room but the comfort of a hotel rather than a motel .

I stayed there to attend an exhibition at the ExCEL. I was utterly staggered when I heard how much my company was paying (£295 per night!) which clearly indicated a huge hike in price linked to the exhibition, especially as I have now found it listed on a website at a normal time at anything from £60 per night. So, by my calculations, nearly a 500% price hike! I walked into my room to find no wardrobe, no draws and no desk. But three mini rails to hang thing from (strategically positioned so that only two were usable at the same time) protruding from the wall which was decorated with a highly questionable photograph of a disembodied pair of women’s legs stuck up in the air, wearing very ornate shoes! The room, otherwise, was clean and comfortable, and I loved the under bed lighting which came on automatically when I got up in the night - great idea - but, really, for the cost (which was exploitatively utterly obscene), the room really should have been better equipped.

Always nicely welcomed to a clean and modern hotel. Staff always nice and room clean. The only slight down side is the lack of bins in the room! Best hair dryer ever supplied in a hotel room and optional ironing room is beneficial. Near the DLR and easy to drive into London areas from here.

The desk doesn’t have maps of London. This was a huge blow for me. There are no phones in the rooms. No breakfast was available my first day without advance reservation because a food delivery didn’t come and the hotel is located in a neighborhood without any other restaurants open for breakfast. There’s under the bed lighting in the room that goes in automatically via motion detector so you see brightness if your partner gets up to use the bathroom. Rooms are on the small side, especially bathroom and corridors are dark. Planes from nearby airport make noise beginning at 7am on weekdays. The only way this is truly funky are things like foozball in the lobby but if you’re staying all the way out here, you’re probably a business traveler going to a convention at excel and are you really the foozball demographic? If you have to stay in this desolate area, choose the Hampton inn and get breakfast at least!

Hi amycR465PQ, Thanks for taking the time to comment on your recent stay. I'm sorry to read that we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion, although I'm afraid that I don't totally understand your comments regarding the breakfast. We don't sneak the breakfast charge into the room rate as standard, to avoid charging guests who don't want to eat it, but it is completely available without "advance reservation" to all of our guests who want to walk in. And if our breakfast offering doesn't quite do it for people, we do also operate an all-day menu from 10am with lighter and alternative offerings. Regarding noise from London City Airport, unfortunately the planes taking off from just over the water can be heard if the window is left open. However, we have excellent soundproofing otherwise, and it is extremely rare for guests to report any external noise when the window is closed. While you're absolutely correct that a large number of our guests come for the ExCel Centre, many of them appreciate the wind-down that our lobby provides - board games, pool, table football, a library and our 24 hour bar. Moxy as a brand isn't for everyone - but we appreciate you trying, and are sure you can find something more keeping with your tastes among Marriott's 30 brands. Best, Nick Captain

Hi Amy, As a few of our guests have pointed out, while planes do land just across the water from us we are well insulated against external noise - so the vast majority of our guests wouldn't notice the planes unless they decided to open a window. Many of them also enjoy the view of the landings :) Best, Nick Captain
