Cabot Cape Breton owns two courses that rank in the top 100 in the world. The resort was birthed during the financial crisis of 2008. It boasts two seaside courses. The Links was built by Canadian Rod Whitman, who lived at the course and did most of the shaping. The Cliffs course is built on visually stunning terrain that boasts many holes along the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The rooms are basic but tastefully furnished. We had a second-floor room with a balcony., that I'd recommend. Get a caddie, they are worth their weight in gold.

This is a gorgeous resort located on spectacular golf courses. We were here as a couple at the beginning of the shoulder season in late September 2021 so we were able to get good rates on both golf courses. You can see how this would be an ideal guys or girls golfing getaway for a few days as the rooms are spacious and many have two large comfortable beds. Loved the putting green that was part of the carpet design. Bring your putter to your room! Apart from the golf, which is top tier, we enjoyed a morning walk on the gorgeous sandy beach. We also had breakfast, lunch and two dinners at the resort (the scenery was so stunning we really didn’t want to go elsewhere). We found the food decent though not amazing.

We played both the Links Course and the Cliffs Course twice and our group was split on which one we enjoyed more. The holes along the water on Cliffs are spectacular and not found in many places. The Links has a nice feel as you are right in town. We stayed in a 2 bdrm villa half way down the first fairway. It was great to sit on the covered deck after the round and watch the groups go by. The view from our room was spectacular. Best to have a caddy.
The information reviewed with us on check in was limited as we later found out, as there could have been better information provided about on site restaurant locations and hours. The service in the main restaurant was slow and the food was adequate only.
Part of our group was going to Halifax airport directly and the private transportation company cost was 60% of the cost compared to the resorts fee.
The villa was great and spacious however the pillows are huge and uncomfortable.

We arrived at the famed Cabot Resort with high expectations. These were quickly dashed. You pull into the parking lot and nobody to greet you. You look around to see where to go. You make you way to check in. Then informed at a resort you are paying in excess of $550 a night that their main dining room is closed for the season!! You can dine at the Bar or the Public House. Wow... thrilling. Not what the clientele they are trying to attract expect. There are also zero amenities for the price. No pool, no gym, no spa.

They do have lovely views from the rooms and the sunset is something else. Nice bath products. Room was clean but small.

If looking for a true luxury golf resort in Nova Scotia that non golfers can enjoy, head to Fox Harb’r. You will not be disappointed. It is my hope that Cabot will build on their resort to improve the experience of their non golfing guests.

The golf is fantastic- impeccably maintained and the most friendly staff. We had the best time playing and the courses were some of the most beautiful we have ever had the privilege of playing.

The resort, however, is far from the 5 stars you expect after visiting the website. (Before I go on I must mention how lovely all the resort staff were, extremely friendly and personable and the following review is no reflection on them).

Booking this trip we anticipated the best of the best, but felt there was much left to be desired. As someone mentioned in an earlier review, you pull into the parking lot and there is no one there to greet you or assist with bags. We stayed at far less expensive and desirable hotels during our trip in Nova Scotia and received much warmer (and more helpful) welcomes.

After checking in we had to move rooms twice due to mold in the shower tiles. I could not believe the hotel considered the conditions of the shower would be suitable for any guest. After the second room showing mold, the manager did get involved and was quick to assist us with a new room that included an updated bathroom, so hopefully that is on the agenda for the rest of the resort.

Another frustrating experience was that none of our trash was thrown out each day during housekeeping services. We had a to go box of leftover food in the trash that sat there for 2 days before we finally threw it out ourselves due to the smell.

The rooms and the restaurant decor/vibe were nothing spectacular, however the food options were plenty and all very tasty.

While the golf is something we will remember forever, I believe the next golf trip we go on will be at a different resort with a more five-star accommodation.

After having to cancel last July for Covid we were finally able to make it up to Cabot. We chose to make a 6 day trip so we could enjoy some time in Halifax then on to Baddeck for an overnight at the Telegraph Inn. We left after breakfast and made our way up and around the Cabot Trail, stopping for some spectacular viewing, hiking, and lunch at Keltic Lodge. We made it to Inverness late afternoon in time to check in, shower, and have dinner at the pub. It was a beautiful evening with an amazing sunset so we ate in the outside area. The rooms were very nice, all facing the Ocean, overlooking the 18th hole on the Links course and providing fabulous sunsets. Our room was clean, nice shower and bathroom and had more than adequate space, and a very comfortable King bed. We played at Cabot Cliffs the first day, Links the second day, and Cliffs the third morning followed by lunch and a quick round at the Nest, their Par 3 course. The Cliffs has spectacular elevations and views and is worthy of it's top 10 world golf rating. The Links is a very nice complement to the Cliffs, although more flat it is not an easy course as it is more narrow and a bit of a shotmakers course. Both in excellent condition. We dined twice at Panorama, their nicer restaurant and both dinners were very good. Maybe the best Oysters we have had, the Halibut was great as well as the Filet. The service at all of the restaurants and throughout the resort was excellent. We did also enjoy one dinner at The Annex, a local restaurant 5 minutes from the resort. We had one disappointing experience and that was with our caddies for the first round. There was a mistake and we were only allotted two single baggers, we had requested caddies for all four of us. Unfortunately one was very inexperienced, the other just not good, poor attitude and lazy. When I went into the office to discuss this with Denise, who was very helpful, she immediately brought over Ted Stonehouse, the director of golf, who was very interested in hearing about our experience. From that point on we were taken care at every turn. We had the best caddies for our remaining rounds. All of the golf staff seemed to have known about our situation and could not have been warmer and kinder. I had several opportunities to talk with Ted about the resort and the future plans they have there, and their relationship with their sister properties Bandon Dunes and Sand Valley, both of which I have visited. I remain very impressed with the professionalism Ted showed as well as his entire staff at Cabot. Cabot is more intimate than the other properties but feels very much like them at the same time. We will definitely return to Cabot and hopefully they will develop a third world class course.

As a person who has travelled to Scotland three times for golf, made the pilgrimage to Bandon Dunes, and experienced Sand Valley, I can easily say that Cabot Links is on par with all of those experiences.

We were booked into a Deluxe Double, with all rooms facing the water and the Cabot Links course. On a trip like ours (and most golfers I would imagine) the biggest priority are a good shower and comfortable bed. Cabot comes through aces on both fronts.

We managed to eat at both the Public House and Cabot Bar and both were excellent.

That said, I found one of the best parts of the Cabot experience was the people. The staff were so friendly, and I wanted to be sure I singled those we encountered out.

Natasha, waitress at the Panorama and Cabot Bar. Super friendly, accommodating and really game personal attention all weekend. Top Notch!

On course - Norm and Scott as starters were very knowledgeable and friendly.

Bob the shuttle driver - super friendly

And Crissy at the reservations office made any request we asked for a priority.

That said, every staff member we came across was outstanding!

Prior to the trip, Holly at Reservations and even Andrew as the GM, were so easy to deal with and very friendly!! E-mails were returned promptly and we were made to feel very welcome!

Thanks so much for a great experience Cabot!

Obviously we love Cabot since we returned for a third visit. The setting, ambiance (although not as charming as when it just opened and more locals were working there) and golf, is unique and we especially love that is is in Canada.

This time we stayed with another couple in a villa because we couldn’t get a room. It was very clean and modern but not welcoming or cosy at all and we slept in the back bedroom so no views either. I would definitely recommend a hotel room.

I had made a special point to book caddies (4 Class A) for both of our rounds…….one for each of us. We had experienced trouble with this on our last visits so I wanted to be prepared.

Unfortunately we arrived at the starter on our first round at the Links with one class A and one class B for four of us. Eventually another class B was found. We were disappointed and I was worried about the next day. Perhaps we should have talked to the director of golf (like another earlier reviewer did) and then everyone would have been bending over backwards to make our golf experience what it should have been. Instead I confirmed with the front desk that all was in order for the next morning at the Cliffs. Yes, they said, you’ve reserved 4 class A caddies.

Well, we got one class A and that was it until one came running up to the tee 5 minutes after our husbands had teed off and we were walking to the ladies tee with our own bags. He told us he just got called 20 minutes ago. Was that true? !! He claimed to be class A but at 18 years old and with no experience caddying for women (a women’s tee was not set up on one hole and he had no idea where it should be) I seriously doubt it is true. And it really is NOT the same golf experience if one caddy is double bagging. And you can imagine that it takes more time…….especially when your caddy is slow.

Cabot Links resort does not allow carts on their courses. If they cannot get the caddy situation figured out, how can this continue?

Anyway, apparently the “squeaky wheel gets the grease” at Cabot when getting the caddies you reserved months ago. BE AWARE.

Traveling to Nova Scotia is a real commitment. You really have to be laser-focused on a great golfing experience to even contemplate making the effort. And, Cabot Cliffs and Cabot Links are, indeed, world class golf courses. They make the Odyssean journey worthwhile: the lodging is ocean front, the food fabulous, and the people welcoming and friendly. Sadly, however, you may be a low double-digit handicap player who has paid a top dollar to experience a golfer's dream and be sadly disappointed by the poorly trained, inadequate caddie assigned to you. I do not blame the nice young people they call "caddies" but know little about golf or what it means to caddie. I blame the Cabot Cliffs Caddy Master who will send anyone out there with a bib. It cheated me out of the golf experience I was eagerly anticipating for 2 of my 3 days of golf. Luckily, on the 3rd day, my husband shared his excellent caddie with me and Cabot Cliffs lived up to its storied reputation. Here is my advice: Ask for "A" caddies. And if you are a serious woman golfer, insist on one because sexism in the golf world still exists.

We arrived last weekend during the hurricane and we were greeted with friendly smiles, snacks and our room was ready. Tina, Denise and Marnie all helped as we navigated our arrival which was extremely helpful. Even with no power the pub and reception had a generator so we could get a meal.
On our last day we played in the pouring rain and they arranged for our clothes to be dried prior to packing.
The Manager at the Cabot Bar assisted with changing some food choices to accommodate gluten free (hummus & Nachos, plant based burger with gluten free bun)
Overall we had an excellent trip and the golf was amazing!

Your kind response is deeply meaningful to us at Cabot Cape Breton. Having our guests' and staff trust us to care for their safety and wellbeing during such unpredictable events like a Hurricane is a responsibility we take extremely seriously. Our Cabot team spent a great deal of time preparing our facility for the impact of this weather event and our storm task force was here on property to support each other and our guests unconditionally. We were well prepared and very fortunate to be able recover from Fiona quickly but, it was the support from great staff and wonderful guests that made it possible. We look forward to hosting you again in ideal conditions and we are so grateful for your support and trust - Thank you! Humbly yours, Matt

Hi, check-in was 3pm and I believe check-out was 11am. The have an interesting 10 hole course (The Nest) adjacent to the Cliffs course which is great to play on travel days. We didn’t need early check-in or late check-out due to our travel schedule, but I’m sure they would accommodate you if possible. Enjoy!!

Thank you for you question! While we do not have beach access directly on our property, the beach access is walking distance, and located at either end of the resort. The main beach access is a 5 minute drive away, while the secondary access is a little more secluded, and under a 10-minute walk from the resort. The main beach access also offers accessibility equipment including Mobi-Mats, Mobi-Chairs, and beach access chairs, so the beach can be easily accessed and enjoyed by all!
