Detailed Reviews
Kendra H wrote a review Jul 2021
My boyfriend and I stayed at Merland Cottages (cottage 1) for a week in July of 2021. It was an absolutely amazing vacation with a gorgeous view of the lake.

The cottage came stocked with pots, pans, cuttlery, strainer, plates, glasses, bowls, mugs and other cooking utensils. It also had a coffee maker, toaster, microwave, kettle, dish rack, a flat screen with multiple channels, and wifi. There was also a little kitchen table with chairs for meals. It also had a double bed as well as a pull out couch. Bathroom was pretty roomy as well. Also there was air conditioning.

Our cottage just had a new deck installed with a BBQ and a lovely seating area. There was a lot of space for our dog to run around (the place is dog-friendly with a $50 charge). Although the pool wasn’t open, the lake was beautiful and very refreshing for swimming!

They had a horseshoe pit, large fire pit with multiple chairs, a communal deck, and cornhole.

Kevin (one of the owners) was an amazing host and knew a lot about fishing. We were able to rent a canoe twice during our stay ($20 an hour) and we caught a fish (had sooooo many bites on our hooks). They also offer kayaks, boat rentals, and paddle boards.

The town of Picton had so much to offer. We walked along the main strip in town to go shopping in local stores, drove by countless wineries and breweries, ate at an amazing rotisserie chicken place (Angry Birds, which sold a great east coast donair), visited Little Bluff rock beach (as the Sandbanks reservations were all sold out during the duration of our stay…so book ahead of time), and visited the Lake on the Mountain look-out point.

If you’re looking for a relaxing vacation in a cozy cottage with a gorgeous view surrounded by incredibly kind people, I highly recommend that you stay at Merland Park Cottages.

Clean and beautifully well kept property. We went there for a day to go boating- my children had a wonderful time. The owner was accommodating and even let my children use the pool and play equipment while waiting their turn to go on the boat. We plan to visit the property again in the future. Thank you!

Traveling with friends in their new RV we were involved in a terrible accident that left the RV undrivable and our group without a place to stay. As it was the last weekend in August most places were fully booked or were not willing to give us even a portion of the weekend between bookings. Until we called Jennifer at Merland Park. After explaining our situation Jennifer said she had single night openings between guests and happily welcomed us to her family's resort.
During our three-night stay, we stayed in a beautiful three-bedroom cottage, a pool suite room, and the motel area of their resort. All rooms were clean, had all the amenities, and were located in well-groomed grounds at the lakeside resort.
During our stay, we met many people, families that told us they'd been coming to Merland Park for many years!
Certainly, we will be back and highly recommend Merland Park Resort if you are traveling to the Picton area!

A big thank you to Jennifer and Kevin Lavers and their family, wonderful, friendly, and kind people that take pride in their resort and it shows!

Awful place. The chalets aren't on the water and are very dirty and dated - the first thing we saw when coming in was a full trash can from the previous guests. The staff participates in VERY loud parties until late at night, refusing to turn down the music or make less noise. Some of them also drink all day in full view of families meaning that the owners view this behaviour as acceptable.

Bottom line - don't stay here unless you don't care about cleanliness and noise.

We are so sorry to read this review. Most of our cottages are on the water or as we advertise, have a view of the Bay. We have a resort map on all of our social media outlets that gives a visual of where each cottage is located on the property. Indeed, some of the smaller housekeeping cottages date back to the early 1900's but we love the charm they offer and we work hard, every year to do as many upgrades as possible and insist on a certain level of cleanliness from our housekeeping staff. If that wasn't the case when you arrived, we deeply apologize. The summer months are our busiest time of the year and we sometimes have limited time between check -and check-ins however, there is no excuse for garbage being left behind. It is a challenge to monitor all our guests who are vacationing and enjoying themselves in various ways to make sure they are not imposing on other guests. We do try our best to make sure this is overseen. Every week/weekend seems to be different at the park and we rarely get complaints about disturbances so again, we must apologize for your experience with us.

Best Weekend Ever.
Had our 3rd annual Ice Fishing trip last weekend at Merland Park. 5 guys 2 and a half days and over 200 fish. Most were put back as we were really only interested in the big ones but plenty of jumbos for a big fish fry. Kevin was a great host and ensured we had everything we needed to make the best of the weekend. The cottages are warm spacious and have everything you need to enjoy the weekend away. Also helps that the Beer store is 5 minutes away.

5 star experience. Cant wait to get back

At first we were happy to find a vacancy to over night in your lovely area. However, although you advertise being a motel, you motel units are far from adequate. Here's what we got for $141.25 per night at your motel.
No screen door between deck and bedroom and it was a warm, humid night.
No fans or air conditioner.
No clothes hangers, but the rack was there
No morning coffee.
No paper or plastic cups in room.
No complementary anything - Ice is $3.00 per bag
Lights in the unit that did not work.
Noisy neighbors - but only until11:30 pm

We take road trips throughout Ontario in the summer, and this was without a doubt our worst experience. And I very rarely complain.

I stayed at Merland Park the last week of August , I was very fortunate the weather was amazing and this choice for accommodations was EXCELLENT. I stayed in the "Minnow Motel" the room was spotless the bed was comfortable , the floors were carpeted but well maintained , the bathroom was really clean , The room amenities included a "household" coffee maker , which is 100 times better then the one hitter models typically found in motels/hotels. I also had a fridge , a table with 2 chairs, free Wi-Fi , clock radio , color tv with 50+ channels, Common amenities I shared were amazing: , full kitchen, stove, toaster, microwave, bar b- que , swimming pool, plus there was a foozball and a shuffleboard table right on the porch! The balcony had a table and a few chairs and a unbelievable view , As well the owner Kevin and his family are really nice people and very hospitable. If you are visiting Prince Edward County for business or pleasure , this property will not disappoint you.

We visited Merland Park Cottages and Resort the second week of April this year for a little R&R. The proprietors; Kevin, Jennifer and Tyler were very friendly and accommodating. Their sheep dog, Grizby, was a welcome mascot.

Our cottage was spotlessly clean and provided all the basic amenities; i.e., cable TV, internet access, air conditioning, gas BBQ, etc. It was situated on beautiful lake front property five minutes from town.

We had a wonderful, relaxing time and could not have been happier. We look forward to returning to Merland Park Cottages and Resort. It meets our high standards.
