Yup... Never coming back because of paranormal encounter! We went there almost 3 years ago (2010), just for an overnight. I already forgot what room we had, but it's the farthest to the right side of the resort. We had the room on the 2nd floor. in the middle of the night, around 11, there were banging on out door! and then on the walls! Will never forget that...

Laiya Coco Grove is a few hours south of Manila, and has access to the only white beach in southern Luzon, with ideal conditions all year round, and that is accessible by land.

One thing you must know before booking, is that this is the only beach resort of its kind. It's native aesthetic is attractive, but it's relation to its surroundings goes beyond the appearance.

The tree houses, made of local and natural materials, will let the songs of the morning bird in. At the foot of the trees are the crashing waves of the ocean, who provides food for the locals at low tide, and provide a soothing lullaby at high tide.

After sundown, encounters with frogs and crabs are frequent. It's not dangerous, it's normal. But nature can be surprising for those who are not used to its presence, like my family. Simple solution - singing in the dark scares the animals away, and provides us with a little bit of musical bravery.

The staff are very accommodating and refreshing, which helps justify the price. The atmosphere of the place does too, especially when you consider the free shuttles to their extension white beach (walking distance at low tide). And don't forget the all-inclusive meals, which we are very thankful for.

I've noticed the meals are adapted to the visitors and their origins. Remarkably, the chefs are capable of a wide variety of dishes, from typical filipino, american hotcakes, australian tuna-omelettes, and european salted dishes.

Speaking of which, looking at the past comments, it looks like Laiya Coco Grove is one of the few places that takes the time to read people's comments and improve from it.

Thank you very much to the director and the whole team for accommodating us.

Some suggestions, cleaning up and maintenance isn't something done intensely, once in a while, but constantly and steadily.

And for those that will book, don't stay on the weekends (that's when the party animals trash the place), the weekday is much more peaceful.
To the staff: please put trash cans and more than one ashtray within arm reach of the party animal. We will all appreciate it on Monday morning.

To the guests: if you like music, bring CDs to share with the other guests, they may appreciate it.

(Well-maintained billiard table, trampolines - for adults!! and children, swimming pool and multiple terraces make for comfortable living, but that's the normal stuff for a beach resort of this price range.)

See you again Coco Grove,
Chris, Melody and Baby Guzi

Clean, peaceful for the most part. Sand in the water by the shore felt mushy/muddy. Staff said it was because of the rainfall the previous day and mud from the higher parts get drained into the beach. Because of this, most guests take the free shuttle to their other resort a few minutes away. Entrance fee comes with a buffet lunch. Food was meh. Then again, you don't really go there for the food.

mind you, this will be long.. and i dont usually give reviews but this time the entire bad experience i had in this hotel was just worth sharing!
Went der last sunday (Nov.12) for my friend's wedding. The wedding was in the afternoon tho we came early in d morning since we wanted to see the sunrise but we arrived at 7am so we were disappointed not to witness it but that was ok since its our fault. we miscalculated the travel time and thought we will arrive by atleast 5:30 in the morning f we left manila by 3am.. So afterthat, here starts all the "not so good thing" about this resort.

FIRST of all, we were dissapointed on the actual appearance of the resort. it was not wat we expected.. you cannot actually have a sit on the sand since there are a lot of trash and branches!.. they can actually have it cleared and clean if they wanted to, u know. but it seems dat they dnt bother at all. as for the swimming pool, it was not that nice as well!. only kids would want to take a dip on it since they have no idea on what a pool really looks like. there are even no chairs and tables on the side for you to stay to if u wanted to just chill by the pool side. and during night time it will be very dark on that area!

SECONDLY, since we travelled early in the morning, wen we arrived in the resort we were very hungry. we went to the area where we thought we can have something to order and eat but to our disappointment, the staff told us that we cannot order anything since their kitchen opens at 9am. Really?! but here's the catch, if their kitchen opens at 9am how come they were able to prepare foods for their breakfast buffet?!.. thats just wierd for a resort!! so we ordered just coffee instead.. But that COFFEE was not good as well! even with creamer and sugar t'was still not good!. phwee.. so we just decided to get back to the car and drive out and look for something to eat in nearby places.

THIRD thing was, when we asked for a glass of water frm the bar, we were refused to be given one. the staff said that since we were part of the wedding event, we should ask for water from the catering service that was hired for the wedding that matter of fact as of that moment was just setting up! what was that?! as ive mentioned we were at the bar and the glass of water was just a reach away from the staff but she refused to give us! how accomodating they were!.

FOURTH Thing was, after the wedding ceremony and all, t'was already midnight and we started to drink. The program was done and the mobile bar that was hired was already packing up but we still wanted to drink. So we decided to just continue the bonding moment in the room since the catering service needs to pack up as well and they wont be able to start if there are still guest on the tables. We then ask for a pitcher from the hotel bar and guess what, the staff asked us for an ID so he would be able to give us a pitcher! WOW! An identification card in exchange for a pitcher!??? that was really weird!!!!!!!

FIFTH THING AND WORST OF IT ALL!, past 2am and we were all already on the bed sleeping, a staff with a security on his side knocked and asked us to get out of the room since according to him the booking arrangement for the room we were in was just up until 10pm! if we wont get out, they will charge us for the room that was not actually worth it for a 2000++ for an overnight stay!! EVERYTHING WAS JUST SO UNBELIEVEABLE! this staff was the same one whom we've asked for a pitcher earlier. He knows that we were staying in one of the rooms with until 10pm checkout only and he didnt not even bother to inform us or even confirm if we knew that, when two hours ago we asked for a pitcher from him!
We were just guest here as well so we ddnt have any idea on the arrangements and all we were just told that we can stay on that room!! They actually have waited for 2AM in the morning before they would inform us SO that we wont have any other choice but to be charged for staying in the room!!!

And Why does he have to be there with a security!!!???? we were not an irrate or intoxicated patrons for us to be treated and be removed from the premise that way!

WHAT WAS ALL OF THAT!?

Good thing was that we have cars so we wont have transportation issues. But what if we dont have!!!!!

ggRRRrrrrr! up until now i still cant believe this resort!!!!

I recommend you not taking in group bookings! Your staffs actually doesnt know what HOSPITALITY is!! ampft!!

It was a nice place except for the low tide every afternoon means you can only swim in the morning..just 1 thing pissed me off when i accidentally stained their linen with my henana tatoo they ask me to pay 800 pesos for it i ask if i can pay even a half of the price since their linen looks old and used for years now but still they insisted i pay it in its brand new price and i think its unfair and not right..not going back there again they dont give any considertion Since i pay 30,000 plus for my 2 nights stay with my family..bad policy

i wish i could say nice things about this place but...

1st - arrival. we arrive at the place earlier than expected. 2PM is the normal checkin time, however, at 4PM, were still not checkin, because the place has a late checkout time of 2PM. So since the place hasn't been cleaned yet, we waited until 4PM before we were able to make it into our room.

we stayed at the restaurant section while waiting for our room. they had water dispenser which says the COLD water is turned on. however, the water is not even cold! just warm. when you asked for ice, they will tell you they dont have ice. seriously?

2nd - the room. restroom is not clean, room is so-so. the worst part of all, the aircondition is so bad. it cant even stay ON for more than 5 minutes. according to the resort, they are having issues with the genset. so our electricity is fluctuating every 5 minutes or so. aircon will make a noisy sound every 5 minutes, and then shutdown, and it will turn on automatically. the air outside is colder than inside the room. the room cant even get cold. we even experienced brown-out! i didnt had a goodnight sleep at all.

3rd - the food and service. dinner and the next day breakfast is so-so. nothing special, nothing great. service is okay. i think we only get a so-so food because we didnt had the buffet service. we tried to order dessert (ice cream, halo-halo), and the service crew told us that they dont have dessert. if you want dessert, you can go to the nearby town instead (which is 20-30 minutes away?)

overall, the room and service was what makes it all bad. so i dont think ill be recommending this place at all to anyone

We feel cheated after staying at Laiya Coco Grove in February, 2014. The facilities and the food were nowhere near what we should have received for the price we paid Agoda in advance. This is what we found at what we were expecting to be a deluxe room based on the price and the description: three beds in a room so small there was room for no other furniture except for two small bedside tables—it was wall-to wall beds; folded towels as bath mats and table cloths, no cushions for metal chairs and plastic deck chairs, complimentary toiletries consisting of two discs of soap and one small tube of shampoo, no television, no hair dryer, no box spring and mattress—just two pieces of foam, not even the same size, a missing toilet paper spindle, a missing adjustment knob on air conditioner—no way to adjust the temperature, a broken switch on the ceiling light/fan—can’t have one on and one off; one small garbage can in the toilet for toilet paper and no other garbage can inside or outside of the room, or anywhere else on the premises; no screens on the windows; our “five-person room” had one reading light, one towel rack for one towel, and one chair; very intermittent internet access—not even the office computer could get on-line when we went to ask why we couldn’t get on-line; stuff left behind from a previous guest was in a closet, a broken chair pinched my shirt whenever I leaned back; Sprite and boku were the only refreshments and snacks available—no snack shop or vending machines; two boku we left on the table outside our room (no garbage cans around) were still there two days later; cafeteria is a multi-purpose room with collapsible tables and chairs, no view of the beach or ocean, and the ambience of a basement; meals consisted of rice, vegetables and two types of meat; all-you-can-drink water was available for all meals, with coffee (very good some days) served at breakfast and juice served at other times; desserts were served in teeny, tiny bowls—mostly jell-o. Things were broken down and dirty and the management offered highly inflated fees even after we complained about their price gouging. Our Agoda “deal” was a rip-off. The beach and the water were wonderful, but the facilities, the food, and the service were nowhere near worth what we paid.

First of all, Laiya Coco Grove wasn't my first choice for a beach resort in San Juan Batangas. As my booking was made way too late into the summer, it was the only one available to accommodate our extended family of 10 adults and 8 kids, needing 5 separate family rooms. Laiya Coco Grove is everything the previous bad reviews say, and more. The sad thing is that the reviews of 2009 and 2010 are pretty much the same, maybe even worse.
We were given the 5 tree houses fronting the beach. Inside the tree house, cobwebs surrounded the ceilings. You get the impression that the bathroom and toilet were not at all cleaned prior to us occupying it -- the bathroom floor was still wet, and so was the toilet seat, as if someone had just taken a shower and used the toilet before us (thank God for alcohol and disinfectant in my must-bring list). Again, you get the impression that the resort staff want us to be thankful that they have provided us toilet paper and nothing else. When I asked my husband to go to front desk (as there was no phone in the room) and ask for soap (ok, I get it, I didn't expect shampoo), the staff absolutely insisted that there was soap, and I quote, "check nyo uli, kung meron kayong nakitang toilet paper, may soap din po" (check again, if you saw toilet paper, there should be soap). Please, "hindi kami bulag" (we're not blind). Bottom line, we did not get our soap when we needed it.
Beddings - I pulled out what didn't seem like a real pillowcase, and saw inside some molds growing into the pillows (again thank God for makeshift sheets in my must-bring list).
Over buffet dinner at the dining hall, the foreigner owner was very much present, but not at all accommodating towards the guests, seemingly oblivious of the goings-on around him. Saving grace - the lechon tasted good!
Tip: bring your citronella armor to ward off mosquitoes and other insects flying all over the place. Did I mention the bad weather that befell us in the evening and well into the following day? It was a perfect match to the sorry state of this resort, if we could even call it that.
What I liked best - the beach, which we can actually enjoy in any other resort
What I liked least - the rooms, the sink and faucet in particular, the service, the dirty pool

It was a 2 and a half drive to San Juan Batangas from Alabang. We went there on a sunday during low season and we got the poolside aircon room for P2,700 per head inclusive breakfast, lunch & dinner. The room was clean and it has 2 double beds, toilet & bath.Outside the room we had a small area where we can sit and read a book facing the pool area. The place is surrounded with coconut trees and make their own coconut wine out of it. they also offer horseback riding, island boatride, beach volleyball,billiards,snorkelling,massage(P300) and they have a trampoline for the kids.
My only problem with Coco Grove is their beach area is a 15 minute walk from the resort. They offer a tricycle ride if you prefer not to walk but we didnt take it because it goes through the rough main road.On our way there we pass by the other resorts and I could imagine how busy it would be during peak season. The beachfront is white sand but not as fine as Boracay Island but the water is clean & clear. The swimming pool was 5 feet deep and it has the mountain and sea view.It was a 2 minute walk from our room.
Every meal they served us consist of 3 dishes(choice of meat/fish/chicken/vegetable) drinks and fruit. Or they can accomodate a dish requested by the guest depending on availability and season. We were satisfied with our meals it was more than we expected and the chef was very accomodating. There is a convenience store open 6am-10pm located outside the resort less than 10minutes drive or you can request to be taken there with the resort's vehicle.
I recommend this resort for those people who want to do a short drive for a weekend getaway.
