David E. wrote a review Mar 2020
To be honest, I've twice before stayed at La Quinta hotels (Bloomington, MN, Low Angeles, CA) and was less than impressed. We chose this La Quinta upon our sudden, unplanned return to Minnesota from Thailand (due to the Covid19 mess) because of its close proximity to the airport, and the fact it offered the lowest price of area hotels. We were looking only for a bit shower and clean bed after nearly two days of airports, airplanes, and immigration lines. What we encountered pleasantly surprised us: a clean and tidy property, lobby, and room, and a very friendly, efficient receptionist who quickly checked us in, chatted with us, and gave us the latest info on the effects of the pandemic in Duluth, which proved helpful and eased our anxiety. Our room was spacious, with a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and reclining easychair. Bathroom amenities were well stocked, and I was given shaving cream, which I'd forgotten. Breakfast wasn't served due to the pandemic, but we received "sack" breakfasts from the front desk. Check out was equally efficient with another friendly staff member. I'm summary, we were very pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness of the property and the friendly, welcoming staff. I do recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in the vicinity of the Duluth Airport and/or Miller Hill Mall. (Miller Hill Shopping Mall is a 5-minute drive from the property, however currently closed due to the pandemic, and there's a Super One grocery store also 5 minutes away.)

I always notice the little details that make the first impression and experience personal. Upon entering, the lobby is spacious, clean and decorated with great colors and a lg picture of Duluth's iconic Arial Lift Bridge. Staff were friendly and since I was traveling with 2 teens, automatically issued us 3 key cards without me asking.

Room and bathroom were clean, nicely decorated, and well maintained. Even the visiting younger cousins commented on the colors and framed pictures.

The hotel had a great selection for the complimentary hot breakfast with a spacious area to eat.

It was a smaller hot tub and pool area, but it served its purpose, and the kids enjoyed it. They swam in the morning when it wasn't busy, but it would have been crowded on a weekend night.

We'd definitely stay here again.

La Quinta hotels always meet or exceed our expectations. It is worth it to start earning points on rooms & redeeming them for free rooms. Also we love the hot breakfast options. Even our picky kids love it. They say it's their favorite hotel.

*The shower door would not stay closed.
* The breakfast was horrible with poor selection. The promotions I registered for earning double points and a free night were not given. The status match program I submitted was not acknowledged/points were not given accordingly.
Nolan was very attentive, helpful making the reservation, and accomodating requests. However the manager and other staff need to have more manners in the hospitality arena. Also, the LaQuinta guarantee is not upheld at all here. I had another bad experience at Laquinta Inn & Suites in Duluth, MN. Even though I tipped the staff, I wasnt given the standard hygiene items by housekeeping and had to call the front desk. Staff was very rude to me. At one point my hotel key card stopped working and when I called the front desk I was told to come to the desk and get it. I was recovering from a back injury and couldn't do so at the time. The morning of checkout, a group of men in the parking lot made loud inappropriate mocking noises at me, making me feel uncomfortable. I called and let Jess know at the front desk. She was dismissive, saying "they checkout" and the manager arrives in a few minutes, but the manager never contacted me. Even at checkout, I wasnt acknowledged by her. (She was angrily folding boxes in the side room.) I requested a late checkout that day, which is a benefit as a member per tge Wyndham Rewards site, and all staff were rude to me. At 11:53am, the maid knocked on the door despite the do not disturb sign, telling me it "was almost noon". Then Jess called right at noon saying "this is a reminder that you check out today" and just hung up. I arrived in the lobby to check out at 12:07pm, and asked Jess if she called, and if it was standard to contact guests as such. She said "sometimes". In summary, I reinjured my back rushing, and broke my suitcase, due to how I was being treated.
Second, in August I stayed and requested a room in a quiet area because I was very tired and it was late at night. But directly across from me was a overly occupied room of youth. There were children running up and down the halls and doors slamming until 1am. I called and let the desk know. I overslept the next morning. I did file a complaint with Wyndham Rewards. They told me I would receive a followup in 5 days but I never did. I received an email from a manager at the hotel saying "sorry", but this doesnt honor the brands guarantee policy clearly posted in all rooms and on the website.

This was our first stay at a La Quinta Inn. It was for one night for me my fiancé and my dog before traveling further north to explore the North Shore. We were between this and Fitger’s and ultimately chose here because we could leave our dog for a bit if needed (Fitger’s does not allow you to leave your dog in the room unattended). Check in and check out was fine. Room seemed nice enough and was clean. We were happy (at first) to get the room all the way at the end of the first floor and as it was right next to an exit door and we could park right there. This actually turned out to be the worst room we could have gotten. After check in we decided to leave the pup to go get something to eat. 15 min after leaving we got a call that a guest complained they could hear a dog crying in our room. Understandable that’s an issue so we headed back. When we got back we did not hear our dog crying outside the door but decided just stay in with her. We soon realized why she was crying. This room had a door to stairs right in front of it which was used frequently and was really loud as the door slammed shut. Each time this scared our dog and she would cry. This also scared me awake several times throughout the night so we did not get the best nights sleep either. Other things were not great. The breakfast was also terrible. Poor options and what was offered was inedible. We booked late which drives up the cost but this room was not worth over $200 regardless. I wish we would have chosen Fitger’s. The price was comparable for a much nicer, way cooler hotel right on the water and next to the attractions. Instead of sulking in our bed eating goldfish crackers for dinner trying to keep our dog calm we could have probably ventured out with her instead and been able to explore Duluth a bit more as was the plan. Or ordered room service as They had a restaurant. Lesson learned for next time. Great hotel if you get it for cheaper and just need a place to sleep, but didn’t work for us.

We had our dog with us so needed a pet-friendly hotel. This one had the best reviews so we booked a room for two nights. It was very clean. They have a nice, large grassy area for your dog and also a pet station with waste bags. The beds were very cozy; we slept well. Not much noise at all either. Lots of parking spaces in the front and back. The shower water gets hot and has good pressure. The breakfast included sausage links, eggs, potatoes, cereal, muffins, juice, and things like this. I would love if you had a waffle maker! The staff was so nice. We just had a really nice time in Duluth. We will return with our pup!

Upon reserving my room I was informed by the website and by booking.com that hot breakfast would be provided, this is one of the main reasons I chose this hotel. Upon check-in I was informed that hot breakfast would be provided on site and if I were leaving early then I could receive a to go bag with breakfast inside of it. The next morning when I went to get breakfast there was no hot breakfast, and I received a paper bag with orange juice, yogurt, a muffin, milk, and Cheerios. I was so dissatisfied I requested half of my money back and I did not receive it

We stayed here just 1 night on our way through town. The check in went very quick (thankful as it was late) and the front clerk was friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and beds comfy. We adjusted the temp in room as it was a bit warm upon arrival. The breakfast was great - eggs, sausage, hashbrowns (both reg and spicy), mini muffins and danishes. Fresh fruit and yogurt. We were very pleased! Would definitely stay here again if in Duluth. It's also next to many places for shopping. Thanks La Quinta!

The hotel was comfortable, clean, and had nice amenities. The staff is helpful and friendly. Although it is not super close to the canal park area, I would stay here again in a heartbeat if I had occasion to be up on the hill in Duluth. The only drawback is that weekend hotel prices in Duluth during BluesFest are crazy high! LaQuinta’s price was on par with every other hotel.

Staff was polite and friendly. Second (and third) day with bagged breakfast. The La Quinta provided a much better bagged breakfast than the Hampton Inn in Michigan. The breakfast bags were packed full. Pool open as well. Romm was nice and bed very comfortable.

I don’t know that answer but you could definitely call the hotel directly and ask the manager. If you’re staying in the winter it’s not a great mode of transportation in Duluth as the snow can pile up and the streets are very hilly and not great biking conditions from December through March

I stayed at La Quinta 2019 2nd week of January. . At that time I found it to be good value very friendly and helpful staff, management very on the ball, and good hoouekeepiing and breakfast staff. Room was very good with walk in shower. Maybe this has since been taken over? I found the situation very sonvenient for the airport and they did have a courtesy transport working day hours if you booked a ride.
