Le Petit Hotel Saint-Paul charms many guests with its cozy and chic atmosphere set in a vintage architectural backdrop. Its rooms earn rave reviews for their spaciousness and stylish decor, complemented by modern amenities. With its prime location in Old Montreal, the hotel is a hit for easy access to local hotspots. While the complimentary coffee, tea, and continental breakfast with fresh pastries are popular, some guests feel the room rates don't fully match the amenities and views. Immaculate cleanliness and warm, attentive service are consistently called out as highlights.

Toronto, Canada
Prior to arrival the hotel staff helped us, by phone, to find a restaurant for dinner the one night we were in Montreal. We appreciated the guidance and thoroughly enjoyed an excellent meal at Holder.

The hotel was easy to reach by car coming from west of Toronto and is also only 15-20 minutes drive from Trudeau International Airport. It is conveniently located near the southwest edge of the vieux port tourist area.

Parking was included in our room rate and on arrival one of the staff kindly and efficiently took care of our car. The young man at the front desk was pleasant, courteous, and efficient checking us in. It is - as the name suggests - a very small hotel and that is what we wanted. Thus, there is not much of a lobby and there are no dining facilities but this did not concern us at all. The lobby is very stylish as was our room.

I had asked for a quiet room and we were given #202 which is at the back corner of the hotel, with large windows on two perpendicular walls. There is no view out the windows but we didn’t mind as we were not there for the views and spent little time in the room other than sleeping. We had the medium room and found it more than ample in size for two people. It is as depicted in the website photos: stylish, well lit, thoughtfully laid out with good functionality; very clean as well.

As most reviews have mentioned, the shower is amazing. I was afraid I might not be able to figure out all the knobs/jets but it was easy. There was a good sized bar of soap at the sink which was large enough to use in the shower. I appreciated that as I do not care for shower gel.

As we left for dinner, I asked the woman at the front desk for help with an HAVAC issue and when we returned the problem had been solved. The room becomes deliciously dark at night when the drapes are pulled across the windows. There is some street noise even at the back of the hotel but we didn’t find it a significant disturbance and it is probably inevitable in a big city. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens were lovely.

Included in our room rate, we had the option for breakfast of going to a restaurant just down the street or having a continental breakfast delivered to our room. We opted for the restaurant where the two choices available to us were a “classic breakfast” of eggs with bacon, sausage, potatoes, toast, and fruit; or the continental breakfast. We opted for the former and found it very good. I don’t know if the restaurant option is just something they are offering because of Covid but it worked for us.

All in all we were very pleased with our choice of this hotel and would certainly recommend it.

Stayed a couple of nights here, very late check in. Wonderful gentleman on the reception helped me with case AND brought me tea at 1am. Booked the standard room. Huge king bed, incredibly comfortable. A nice little continental breakfast included in the rate. Staff are very helpful. Location right off the waterfront in old Montreal, close to subway and buses (buy a 24 hour ticket for $10 - one trip is $3.50, so great value). Lots of bars and restaurants and expensive little shops in the old buildings around the hotel. I’d stay here again. Lovely little place.

Under Covid, stays are a bit different, like the maid service only comes every third day, unless you ask for daily service, just as they mentioned.
We had to ask for a few more items but they always came right away.

Continental breakfast was no longer served in the building, but we went down the street to a partner hotel for an excellent choice breakfast, included in our reservations.

The front desk was always very friendly with warm greetings and asking how you are, each time we returned. A nice coffee and tea bar had made to order hot beverages, by the front desk A nice touch.

Car parking was valet but very timely.

One night we looked for a last minute dinner reservation but the restaurant was booked. Front desk called the restaurant manager and we got in for 7pm. Excellent service.

We loved the old world feel of the brick outer walls to our room, matched with modern decor. The bathroom was newly renovated with a very modern shower.

We would gladly stay again. Great value and awesome service.

This is a boutique (28 rooms) hotel near the heart of Old Montreal, in a historic building The public space is attractive with much character, but not grand; there are no amenities such as fitness center or spa on premises. What makes this hotel special are the rooms. Our room was among the nicest of any hotel we’ve visited anywhere in the world. A 19th century feel, spacious, and well decorated and furnished. The bed was very comfy and the bed linens top notch. The shower has multiple nozzles and great pressure. The walls are brick and stone; both beautiful and completely shielded us from adjoining rooms. I really liked being in a more personal small hotel rather than a larger more institutional venue; the staff was friendly and helpful. Our room faced the street and this was the only negative — the area was swamped with tourists and visitors who partied late into the night and the noise of people talking and carousing and the noise from vehicles and motorcycles was very audible until after 2:00 a.m. So, if you are a light sleeper, during the high season I suggest insisting on a room facing the back alley. A nice continental breakfast was included in the room rate, but didn’t make up for the lousy night of sleep.

It was a real pleasure to stay at Le Petit Hotel. From the time I walked in to the time I was leaving the hotel, the staff was very attentive to all my requests and was very friendly and welcoming. When I arrived around noon, my room wasn't ready, I was offered to leave my bag and come back at 3pm. Coffee, latte or tea were available any time of the day, and I got to enjoy a cup by the window a few times during my stay. Continental breakfast was also included; it was fresh and filling. The room was a good size with a very comfortable bed and a great shower with strong water pressure. What I want to highlight is a personal touch by the front desk employees. On the first day, I got some recommendations for dinner, drinks, some places to visit, and all of them were on point. I had enjoyed every single thing that was recommended to me. The staff was very knowledgeable about the historical area the hotel located in and always happy to answer all my questions. I appreciated every one of them that I'd met during my 3 night stay. And finally,  the location of the hotel is perfect! It is located in the heart of Old Montreal,  all the sights are within a walking distance,  it is easy to get to and from. There are wonderful dining and cocktail choices, all within a short walk. The hotel has only 28 rooms, but has a very boutique vibe with personalized approach by the staff. I would definitely stay there again and recommend it to all my friends.

We stayed at le petit hotel this weekend to celebrate my 70th birthday. This hotel was so lovely and the front line staff - Jay (who I thought was the Manager!) and Andrea were so pleasant and helpful with arranging dining and shopping for us as well as spending time talking and getting to know us - Customer Service perfection! The hotel itself reminded me of some hotels we stayed in, in Europe. The location was perfect and within walking distance to many restaurants and little boutiques and a short taxi ride to the larger shopping areas. The front lobby has complimentary capaccino, espresso and many other specialty coffees as well as tea. They have chairs and tables set up so you can enjoy a cup of coffee before you go out or when you return. They also have complimentary breakfast served each morning in their breakfast room. They had a nice selection of homemade croissants, bagels and other breads and pastries. Also meat, cheese, hard boiled eggs, cereal and yogurt. Everything was very fresh and nicely set up. We had the small room, which was perfect for the two of us. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable. The bathroom was on the smaller side, but well appointed with a fancy shower with many jets and nice fluffy towels. All in all it was a wonderful hotel and we will definitely stay here again!

Checkinn gentle and very attentive! Room on ground floor space modern a bit scary backside as people cross close to Windows and it's back street with some light installations but I found it comfortable. Tea/coffee free to receive at frontdesk and very good choice of it. Breakfast in close bar near was nice but a bit funny that water/juice is free But to pay for coffee/tea should be by breakfast include. Price is good and location is perfect! Next time I would checkinn and ask for a room higher level :)

Vieux Montréal ("the old city") is a Montreal must-see, and if you're lucky, a must stay - though usually most of the boutique hotels in this area are sold out long in advance. I was lucky to snag a few nights at Le Petit Hotel, a small property but with rooms that are anything but petite !
The multilingual staff was friendly and accommodating, the free latte/espressos were a nice touch. Best of all, though, is the culture and ambiance that oozes through everything: the little dress shops, the music, the fine dining, and on and on.
Though no hot food was available (Covid restrictions), I was able to order a snack box for my room, or go about a block away to have a hearty breakfast at a nearby property - all included in the room rate.
No question, I would stay again in a heartbeat !

This hotel was perfectly situated in Old Montreal. This was my first visit to Montreal and I found it easily accessible from both the 747 bus stop from the airport, and the Central Train Station. Additionally, the metro/subway stop was only less than a 10 minute walk away, which could get you anywhere. I lost my OPUS card and they were able to provide me with a spare card to use, as these cost $6 CAD. All the staff were very friendly, and bilingual (or trilingual), as I spoke to the one front desk attendant in Spanish and discussed my time in Bolivia, which is where she was from. Great room size with a wardrobe allowed me to put my clothes away, as I was there for 4 nights. The breakfast was enough to hold you over, as it consisted of croissants, yogurt, cereal, hard boiled eggs, and meats/cheese. I would prefer a more extensive breakfast; however, this was still better than nothing. There is a little cafe across the street and endless food options nearby if you want something more extensive. I always try to stay in smaller boutique style hotels as usually there is more of a personal touch, as opposed to a large corporate property.

All of the staff is very hospitable. The continental breakfast was simple but delicious - including bagels from St. Viateur, fresh croissants from L'Amour du Pain, and 24/7 coffee and tea service. The location in Old Montreal can't be beat as it is located near many restaurants, bars, pubs, and cafés. It's only a few blocks walk to the metro, Notre Dame, Complex Desjardins, Science Museum, and Vieux Port. We had a nice quiet room on the back end of the hotel facing the alley with a comfortable king bed. For a "medium" sized room, it was large by most metropolitan city standards. They provided bath robes, slippers, and quality toiletries. We will surely return.

what are the parking arrangements
Answer from Mathieu B
Montreal, Canada
Hi John S, Thank you for your question! The option we provide at Le Petit Hotel is a valet service. The current fee is 36$ plus taxes per night and grants you in and out privilege throughout your stay. You may simply leave the vehicle in our drop-off area located across the street from the hotel and we will take care of the rest! Seasonally, we also feature some promotional rates that include parking and other various perks. You may refer to our website or call us to inquire about availability. Otherwise, various public lots are available in the neighborhood. The one at the Grand Quai of the Old Port is conveniently located two blocks behind the hotel. Do not hesitate to call us should you have any other questions. Kind regards, Mathieu Burgoyne Hotel Manager
