This could be such a lovely place to stay as it’s location is overlooking the water and walking distance to shops and restaurants. Check in however, was less than ideal. Rather than say “welcome”, the first thing that the man said to us was “I see that you booked with booking.com” This immediately made us feel like second class citizens. We had asked for a room with a harbour view, but instead were given one facing behind the hotel overlooking construction. I understand that requests cannot always be filled, but when we asked about restaurant times for supper, we were told that the restaurant was closed due to low occupancy during the COVID pandemic. The pool was also closed. Both these facilities were advertised on their website with no mention of closures.

When we got to our room it had a very noisy a/c unit and the thermostat controlling it would not go below 24 degrees. We noticed that the room was getting hotter and hotter so we called down to report it. The man who checked us in was no longer in shift and a very helpful lady cane to check it out. When she couldn’t resolve the issue, she gave us the option of 2 other rooms just across the hallway. Both these rooms had functioning a/c and the water views we had originally requested. Clearly our requests could have been met on check in, he just chose to be difficult.

We had breakfast included with our stay and the food and service were both good. I did find it a little odd that when I ordered my breakfast, I asked for tea and juice and was told that only 1 drink was included and so I would have to pay for the juice. I really don’t care about paying a few dollars, but was it really necessary? Most hotels that include breakfast would include whatever was on the menu.

There were some renovations going on at the hotel, but they were fairly low key and didn’t bother us at all.

Overall, it’s not a bad place, but the staff is clearly mixed and the breakfast policy is just odd.

The hotel was extremely accommodating to our hockey team, they provided our team with a room for kids to have a team meal and play mini sticks. Very good about parents taking over the 3rd floor being hockey parents as well. This is the 3rd time we’ve stayed here as a team always great.

The Loyalist Inn was welcoming, comfortable, and affordable. I was with a large group, a hockey team and the staff were very accommodating. The hotel is outdated but the rooms are clean and have everything you need, including a microwave, mini fridge, and coffee maker, some storage, and a place to hang your clothes. The lobby area was cozy and comfortable. We visited in the winter and they had a fireplace going. Staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful, both during our stay and during the booking process. The location is great also, close to the arena, restaurants, etc. I only gave a 4 star because the hotel is outdated and in need of an update. They are doing some renovations so I'd be interested in seeing the finished product. If you are looking for an affordable, convenient, comfortable place to say, I highly recommend it. If I am ever looking for accommodations in Summerside I would definitely stay there again.

Seasoned Traveler wrote a review Aug 2021
When greeted upon arrival, there was no hi, how are you, how's your day or a smile. You'd think that after reopening after COVID, all service personnel would be instructed to demonstrate pleasant, warm, considerate and helpful hospitality. Again, not the case here.

We were provided with a room. The first room was dirty, had stained and cracked lampshades, the fireplace didn't work, was dark musty and damp. As we were travelling during COVID Delta variant, we wiped down the room and then washed our hands. We then decided to complain. We told the manager that either we wanted a new room or our money back. 15 minutes later, the manager appeared at our door with an offer of a new room and if the new room was not to our liking we would get our money back. My wife inspected it and came back saying it was better and cleaner than the current one. The manager did not help us with a smile when we complained, rather he complained to us that the room we were leaving needed to be cleaned again. Frankly, the room needed a cleaning anyway and we don't know why anyone would have accepted the room we were provided. Sorry, we are the customers, that is not our problem and really if you are going to demonstrate hospitality, it is not something that you would raise when trying to address a complaint. There was no "Gee I am sorry the fireplace is broken, let me try and correct this problem." Rather the literal statement was "if the fireplace has no knobs on it, then it is broken". If that is the case, why give the room to us??? Why not let us know that in advance? We could go on, but rather we would like to describe the outcome of one night's sleep in the new room provided.

While the new room was cleaner, it was just as dark and damp as the other one. Why a hotel, where you only have one window that is not facing the sun, would choose grey flooring and dark grey on the wall, we have no idea. It felt like a dungeon and was rather depressing. At least the fireplace worked, so we were able to add some heat and take some of the dampness out of the air. That said, everything that had material on it, like a sofa or the bed, felt damp, as if it just had been cleaned with a wet/dry vacuum.

After sleeping for one night, we recognized that the air quality in the room was very poor and that the HVAC had likely not been cleaned or serviced in years. We stayed one night, simply because by the time of arrival the previous day, and after the realization that the place was not satisfactory, it was too late to go and find a new place to go to for the night. The first thing we did when we woke up in the morning was book a new place. Once secured, we checked out.

Anyway, stay away from this one. If there was a negative star rating, this place would get it from us.

I did not complete the check in process or stay in this hotel so can't comment on all aspects. But what I can comment on is the check-in experience.

Called the hotel inquiring about check-in requirement before booking to ensure I was comfortable with what's required. They said they just need a valid ID to verify my name matches the reservation, wouldn't demand me to disclose my address, phone or email since booking through Expedia; and a credit card for incidentals. I felt comfortable so made the reservation.

When showed up in the hotel to do the check-in, the hotel changed its requirements by saying they must make a photocopy of my ID or I couldn't check in. And that I must also do the following to meet the requirement: either 1) use a scissor to cut of all info from the ID only leaving my full name and photo; 2) use a sharpie marker to wipe off all info only leaving full name and photo.

I felt something was off and uncomfortable so declined. No hotels would make such strange request of wanting my ID photocopied and cutoff all info except full name and photo.

I asked to speak with the hotel manager, Lee Campbell, and the front desk staff put me through using their landline, since my phone for some reason unable to make any outbound or receive inbound calls in Canada except toll free numbers even though my mobile service plans covers US, Canada, and Mexico.

Lee insisted that I must do all the above or else they could not check me in. I told him this is something I felt uncomfortable nor should compromise. Lee asked me to leave and find another property and was happy to provide full refund as long as I got Expedia to call them since I booked through Expedia. I did that right away. Expedia's online chat agent contacted the hotel and promised/agreed to refund.

As it turned out, my credit card did not refund this refund and I was still charged.
Contacted Expedia again on 10/8/2022 and 10/9/2022 and was told that the hotel refused to refund.

This hotel was crooked and dishonest.
Expedia also failed to step up to resolve the situation.

There was a big party going on, the soundproof does not seem good in the hotel.

I don't feel comfortable staying there.

First we were given a key to room, we walk in and the room was already occupied. We went back to the from desk they said oops like its no big deal and it happenes all the time. Then she gave us a key to anotyer room. We walked in and it was a filthy mess. I called down for a vacuum to be sent up, then I sat down to wait. The dirt and grim I saw on the nightstands, tables, walls amd windowsills were absolutely disgusting, I checked the towles and they were stained. I called down again over and over no answer. I walk down and they were just not answing the phone. I explained we can not possibly stay in that room. So your employee brought me up to another room, it was not much better. There was blood all over the chair cushion on one side and gum or something on the other side. I told her to take these and get me new ones, bring me up a vacuum along with disinfectant and a cloth so I could clean the room myself. She never offered to have someone come up and clean it or anything. I told her I expect to have some sort of compensation for all the trouble we went through. She agreed and said she will contact the manager. She never did I talked to someone the next day and they said to call back during the week to talk to a manager so I did. When I called I got the same ignorant girl and she refused to put me through to manager and hung up I called back and she told me to stop calling and she will be telling the manager not to give me any sort of refund. She was extremely rude and needs to be taughtsome manners. Also not sure when a front desk employee started making these kinds of decisions. She seems to think she owns the place, which I did get a kick out of. I have now emailed and left messages with the GM, waiting for their call back. I guess she dosnt know when she dosnt answer the phone it goes to a voice mail box that give you options to leave messages to the GM along with his email.

I would not go back this hotel even if they paid me.

I am still blown away how your hotel has been kept, they need to have a serious conversation with the cleaning help and or dismiss them all. Along with that front desk employee.

I had called the Inn directly as I had googled a package deal for the Harbourfront Theatre. They had none for the night we were staying which was July 24/23. I had asked about other packages as I assumed a package would be a better value. They had mentioned a Picnic Basket Package for two people which included 1 sandwich each, a platter of meat and cheeses, water, 2 rolls, bottle of wine and cheesecake. I trusted their opinion of it being a good deal. I then further checked out their rates with Expedia and I could have save $90 minus the picnic basket, below is a pic of what was for sandwiches, no meat and cheese platter). When we arrived at 1pm, I asked about the reduced rate, if CAA was accepted, and if we could not take the picnic basket as it wasn’t to be ready until 4:30pm, etc. The manager, Douglas Horner, came out and was very Blunt, Loud and Rude. He said I could do whatever I wanted but he was charging us the full rate. Then he walked away. We are Seniors who trusted the staff of this Inn to provide us with a good package and value. I ask that you double check the rates elsewhere as there are cheaper rates for this hotel, ($159), and this picnic basket wasn’t worth $90, which is what I could have saved plus I had heard another walk-in approach the desk and he was offered $199. We paid $249 plus tax The location is great, the room needs some updating. I notified the reception that there was no meat/cheese platter and I just received an “oh”. Douglas Horner is definitely not management material and has no people skills which are needed for that position. Our lamp shade was tore, the shower drain wouldn’t open so I just pulled it out so the water would drain. I definitely learned a lesson that day.

My family came to PEI for the new year on an east coast trip from Toronto to explore the vast landscape of Atlantic Canada and we were stunned away by the beauty of PEI. I must say the hotel that we selected at first which was quality inn, had better reviews on trip advisor but to be honest I have experienced the worst ever service at the hotel, the staff was so rude and not polite to our requests, the check in process was a hassle and we booked for a double bed room but they said we had only single bed available. Please take my suggestion do not go to quality inn hotel and go by the reviews.

Immediately the next day we checked in here at the Loyalist Inn and I must say the best decision ever made. The front of the house staff made us feel so welcomed, the check in was so quick and prompt, the room that we got was like a 5 star hotel suite, the jacuzzi in the room was big enough for two people and was the best, the bed was so comfortable and king size, the view was sea facing and the hotel is nestled right beside the waterfront and I must say it is the only hotel which is so close to by the shore, the restaurant, iron salt which gave us complimentary breakfast which is right near the lobby, had a wide variety of hot breakfast items from pancakes to waffle to sausages to hash brown to croissant and much more, complete worth a penny.

Trust me my family loved this hotel and felt much like home because of the size of the rooms.
Class apart and now they have newly renovated rooms which feels like a five star hotel yet the country side charm you get from the decor and interiors.

Must visit hotel for any occasion.

You will not regret this decion for choosing loyalist inn ❤️🇨🇦

Stayed here July 22-24/22. Location is great, king bed great and breakfast food ok….but the lack of service in the restaurant and room was deplorable. Taxes in we were $275/night…and it was NOT worth it. There is no housekeeping servIces “due to Covid”…no extra towels supplied in the room to make up for this (two towels for 3 days? We called down for more and we’re told to go pick them up ourselves)No staff at the front desk or restaurant were wearing masks either so it makes you wonder if the hotel is looking more for savings not supplying housekeeping than truly being worried about Covid for their employees…after all, room cleaning typically happens when rooms are empty…not so for the front desk or restaurant. The restaurant service was non existent except for supplying the bill to sign. That arrived before coffee or cutlery to have with our self-serve buffet. Lots to improve at the Loyalist to make the price tag worth it.

You do not pay to go onto PEI, you only pay to leave PEI. The best way to do it if you want to do the ferry is to go across to PEI on the ferry and then leave on the Confederation Bridge. It is much cheaper that way. I believe that you only pay for the vehicle and not passengers, and I think that it is $45.50. Hope that this helps! The ferry is a fun trip.
