Do you hate yourself? Want to be treated like the rotten screetcrawling scum you are? Stay at University Apartments. Our economically sized bathroom concept, just try to sit on the toilet without going on a 45 degree angle with both legs out the door. Love drama? You’ll hear it all with our paper thin walls. Want to pay a $50 deposit which you’ll lose if you don’t keep your receipt? $5 per hour late checkout? No onsite parking? This is for you! Not just one location so watch out. Same managers, same problems. 588 Dundas St West, 43 Grange St and 16 Willison to start could be more. Some rooms come with 2 oven electrical outlets! No fridge or microwave. Bed is flimsy and uncomfortable. Want a late check out? Just text us to let us know, and we’ll promptly forget and padlock you out of your room, with your stuff safely inside, but still make you pay up for late checkout before you can get back in. It’s not a ransom, we swear 🤞. Don’t forget your wallet 😜

Hostel review:
Poor Customer Service: Waiting 45 minutes for someone to show up after repeatedly ringing the doorbell and calling is unacceptable. It shows a lack of responsibility and care towards guests.
Misleading Description: The hostel's details provided on Expedia are misleading, indicating a significant discrepancy between what was advertised and the actual state of the place.
Hygiene Issues: Bugs infesting the premises, lack of doors in the washroom, and a pervasive bad smell throughout the hallways and rooms are clear indicators of poor hygiene standards.
Maintenance Problems: Rust inside the sink and shower, with dripping rust, demonstrate neglect in maintaining basic facilities, which poses health risks to guests.
Security Concerns: The presence of homeless people around the property, coupled with the requirement for photo ID, raises safety and security concerns. Feeling uncomfortable providing personal details, especially to sketchy individuals, is understandable and alarming.
Ineffective Resolution: Spending over an hour trying to resolve the issue with Expedia and the hostel, coupled with the extended wait time for assistance, highlights a lack of efficiency and professionalism in managing guest concerns.
Overall, the combination of poor customer service, misleading descriptions, hygiene and maintenance issues, security concerns, and ineffective resolution processes makes this hostel a highly undesirable place to stay. It's concerning that Expedia would list and promote such a substandard accommodation option.

Windows do not open. Smoke alarms don't work. Mattresses are filthy. Air is stale as there is very poor ventilation and circulation. We walked out and were quite willing to lose our payment rather than stay in such a terrible place. This building should condemned and the owners charged.

I have never stayed in a worse place, and i travel a lot. The first room didn't have a curtain on the window so they moved me, the second room the toilet clogged up, no one came to fix it, the bathroom was mouldy and the door was broken. I booked for a week but left after one day.

After waiting on the street for over half an hour we were checked in by a very rude woman who told us to hurry up as she wanted to get home. She then wanted us to carry our heavy suitcases up stairs without shoes on - we refused. The room was tiny with basic amenities. While the sheets were clean, the mattress protector was not. A fan provided some relief in the airless room. The private bathroom was clean. Once we got over the initial shock the stay wasn't too bad. It was very cheap for Toronto but you get what you pay for.

The apartment has no address and is an old brick building that has graffiti in the surrounding areas. Cameras in every floor, they wanted the money up front and the front desk was a card table. After you paid your visa for the room, service was poor and they give you a TV but you find out later that there is no reception because they have not paid their cable bills. Screaming all night from people coming in and swearing until 3am. Room was really small with a hole in the wall that was covered up by a map of Toronto. Bathroom had no towels. Felt this was how Rocky started to get tough by suriving the night there.

Absolute horror of a ”hostel”... hairs from previous guests on the floor and bed, dirty towels, moldy smell, prison feeling in the basement rooms. The bathroom had not been cleaned when we got the room at 7pm, they did clean it so one point for that.
Staff only speaks chinese and they don’t know what they are doing anyway! Took photos of our passports with their phone. And we had to pay 256€!!! for two nights! Absolute robbery for that lousy excuse of a hostel..
Toronto deserves better! The city was absolutely amazing but please stay somewhere else for your own good!

Based in Chinatown. The photo on line must be very old, as in reality the frontage is very shabby and run down. The place is surrounded by Chinese restaurants/take-away bins, so area surrounding smells a bit! Cleanliness been better. Excellent for public transport (making it noisy during the night though). Basic en suite room. No wardrobe, only hooks on the wall above the bed. Walls are very thin!!! You are expected to remove shoes on entry to building. Few mins walk away from Kensington Market. 15 mins walk to city centre.

Horrible, avoidable - ruined my stay in Toronto.
Rude staff, no service - nothing works in the room - fans, plug-points - all defunct. Only bunk beds, even for older people!
They charge you for every single thing you ask them for - even viewing fee to see a photograph of the room, changing room fee (for after you ask them to change you from the horrible room they first give you) to the next equally bad room. Run, in the opposite direction.

Being Asian and traveling with my grandfather who recently came from China, I thought this motel was great since it was conveniently located close to Chinatown. Little did I know, I was in for a nasty surprise. Nobody would answer the front door for more than 10 minutes, and when they did, they charged me $5 for checking in late. I told them I arrived in time but they didn’t open the door, and they told me it wasn’t their problem. They said they wouldn’t give me the key unless I gave them $5. I was already in a bad mood when they yelled at my family to take off our shoes when going up the narrow steep stairs. I told them to let my grandfather to keep on his shoes as he had problems walking and they told us that they don’t care and that we had to take them off or we’d be charged even more. I told them fine and I heard one of the staff whisper “what a bunch of idiots” under their breath in Chinese. I let that go and did as we were told and got to our room and found out the floors were dirty and wet, the air conditioner was small and weak, and the beds were hard and creaky. We went to get the cheap foldable chairs and they collapsed when we tried to sit in them. Guess we’ll be charged for that later. The bed was hot and almost impossible to sleep in without sweating. Then, while I was charging my phone the power went out several times. Then in the morning it went out again and never turned back on. I called them and when they finally answered, they said they’d be here right away to check it out. An hour of waiting later, nothing. When we went to return the key they didn’t have anyone there, and we called them and they never answered, even after I tried several times. I waited for them for an hour or so and they finally came, then fined us for checking out too late. I was extremely angry and told them all my complaints and that I wouldn’t pay the fine, and they tried to PHYSICALLY GRAB MY WALLET TO PAY THE FINE. Whatever you do, do not stay here.
