We had a weekend getaway on Mayne Island, and were absolutely blown away by this property. We stayed in an oceanview room, and the views were outstanding. The room was very comfortable and quiet. We were very impressed with the level of service, amenities, and location, considering the affordable price.

The location is incredible, and we loved being able to walk a minute from our room to the beautiful beach and neighbouring trail on Campbell Point. We also enjoyed two delicious dinners at the adjoining Bennett Bay Bistro.

The resort has taken very good precautions regarding COVID-19, and we were especially pleased with the requirement to book private use of the indoor pool, hot tub and steam room, as we were able to enjoy those amenities safely in private.

Thank you Mayne Island Resort for the fabulous stay! We will be coming back, for sure.

Hotel staff made several accommodations for me. On my first night, my ferry to Mayne was cancelled due to high winds, so they refunded me, and they allowed me to use the room when i got there at noon the next day (usual check in time is 5 pm). That day, news came out that restaurants were shut down due to covid. There are only two restaurants on Mayne and both were shut completely for 3 days until they would reopen their patios. I went to the grocery story and got frozen foods, but did not have a microwave. Hotel staff decided to upgrade me, no extra charge, to a beautiful suite with a full kitchen and microwave.
They went the extra mile to help.
Also, Bennett Bay is a beautiful location to unwind and feel the ocean.
I will be back.

The room was small but adequate , clean and comfortable. The view definately made up for the small room. All rooms in the hotel have a balcony overlooking the ocean.
Breakfast was complimentary choice of muffins, bagels and a variety of breads, cereal tea and coffee.
The owners and staff where amazing very friendly and accomodating .
The resturant is open from 11:00 to 8:30 and has a good variety, the food which we had was very good.
We did not take our car and booked a pick up at the ferry, the car was waiting for us as we stepped of the ferry and took us to the resort explaining all about the Island as we went. For people who visit the Island without a car there are car stops around the Island where locals will pick you up and give you a ride.
Hotel also have a pool, hot tub, steam room and you can also book massages. Games room with table tennis, snooker and shuffle board, a library and games rooom.
We really enjoyed our time at the Mayne Island Resort and would not hesitate to recommend . Loved it.

Hello unyted, Thank you for writing a great review. Our historic hotel at the center of the resort was built in 1912 so the rooms are smaller by today's standards. Most guests find the history interesting, the rooms quite cozy and they just love the ocean side balconies and spectacular views. I hope you can visit us again soon. Things are different here with some restrictions and covid protocols in place but it is still a very relaxing, safe and convenient getaway.

We stayed in a pet friendly villa with a ocean view. Although spacious, it's in need of repair and more attention to detail in cleaning. Things seem to be on the verge of breaking or already barely 'hanging on'. There is a huge water/heat mark on the coffee table; a shelf in the fridge at been cracked at the plastic edges and collapsed when we put something on it. The couch does not look clean. The closet door was locked, so clothing had to be hung on hooks in the hallway. The washer and dryer are unbelievably loud/dated. There are some basic cooking items, but you will need to think ahead if you plan to make meals. The pool is available by appt. between 10 & 6. One 1hr session is allowed each day. Book early. I splurged and had a fantastic 1.5 hour salt stone treatment by Amy. She is a fabulous therapist &worth it. Unfortunately, there are no other treatments available other than massage/reflexology. It would have been nice to have a facial or pedicure. We tried to book a kayak rental, but nobody responded to our call. I suppose we could have brought our own. There is easy access to the beach and the water is warm enough for the brave to swim in. The restaurant was ok. The food was nothing out of the ordinary, but good service. This is a tranquil retreat and we're glad we came. We noticed that the resort is up for sale and perhaps the next owners will invest some money into all the little things that could use a 'tweak' and be improved.

Mayne Island is a very quiet island with 1 place to eat supper and 1 cafe for breakfast. Hotel room was a good size with a balcony with a nice view. Games room was very nice. Pool and hot tub could be cleaned better also the shower was not clean and had a lot of mold. I am aware of the short staffing problem but certain things should never be overlooked when a hotel is being cleaned.

Hi Stimpy2, I am glad you enjoyed the view from your room. and thank you for the four-star rating. Our housekeeping and pool maintenance staff read these reviews so your comment on a shower stall in the pool area in need of a deep cleaning is helpful and appreciated. And I know in these covid times it is hard for some eateries to keep to a reliable schedule but there are various restaurants on island that are usually open. Springwater Lodge, Das Nest, and Bennett Bay Bistro at our resort do lunch and supper. I would reccommend Sunny Mayne Bakery for Breakfasts and Lunch. Farm Gate is another i'd reccommend, they have a lovel deli and focus on local product and produce, well worth a visit. Also, our Cottages and Villas have fully equipped kitchens and patio BBQs for guests who prefer to prepare their own meals. Thanks again for writing a review and we hope to see you again.

Mayne Island Resort and Spa was great. We stayed for 4 days in one of the rooms above the inn. The King Room was small, but had everything you needed, TV, air conditioning, kettle, kuerig coffee maker, and fridge, they also supplied coffee pods, tea bags, real creamer etc. there is a microwave in the hallway for all the inn rooms to share, there was a bath tub and a shower in our room. The bed was very comfortable. View from private balcony was amazing. The room was clean. Housekeeping is by request rather than them coming in your room every day, which is a system we much preferred, thank you.

My only complaint was with the “fitness room” I was told when I called to book, and when I arrived, that the fitness room had a treadmill and a spin bike. It had neither. The only items in the fitness room were an ancient and rusty elliptical contraption, an even older recumbent bike and an exceptionally rusty weight machine. If you like to workout when you are away (and I do) don’t count on using their fitness room. That was a huge disappointment to me. The resort does have a pool and a hot tub that looked nice.

The staff were lovely, the restaurant attached to the resort had great food, and the overall experience other than the fitness room was excellent. We would for sure go again. Please note that the spa is still closed at this time as I was told they have not been able to fill the position of the massage/spa therapist at this time.

Had a wonderful stay at this resort. We were on Mayne Island for my nieces wedding and they couldn't have been more accommodating. From the beautiful room overlooking the bay, to the amazing staff, and fabulous meal at the restaurant, couldn't have asked for more! As well, Murray ( either the owner or manager) personally took the time to look for and mail back, at no charge, an important item we left in our room. We stayed in one of the newer 2 bdrm villas and it was worth the price, fully stocked to cook in your room if that is your preference.

No doubt the Mayne Island Resort has a stellar location but it seems to rely on that fact alone. We recently stayed in the hotel and were very disappointed by the service and quality of the accommodation. The room needed updating - there was mould along the bathroom baseboards and rust in the (tiny) shower stall, décor is very dated, etc. All motel rooms are above the bistro so they are noisy and lack privacy from outside diners. On the plus side, the bed was comfortable and there was AC.

Service ranged from indifference to incompetence as we felt more like an imposition than paying guests. Grounds of the property are neglected and in good need of a power wash and garden clean up. Paper plates, plastic forks, paper cups, paper bowls are the only option in the room and the breakfast buffet, and I would expect more environmental sensitivity from a Gulf Island property. The breakfast buffet is adequate but a little more thought, like some yogurt to go with the granola, would be appreciated.

The Bennett Bay Bistro serves tasty food but some of the service is again indifferent or downright incompetent. We ate at the bistro three evenings and one occasion the hostess gave away our reserved table to walk-ins because she said "I never knows if people who have reservations will show up!" – this despite the fact that we arrived 5 minutes ahead of time.

Also there is now where to lock bikes despite the fact that many people visited on bicycle. The pool is very small – no real swimming possible but perhaps good for small children.

We won't be back.

Hello Maggie, thank you for taking the time to write a constructive review and I am so sorry you didn't enjoy our resort.. I am happy you loved the view and found the beds comfortable. We typically score quite high for value, cleanliness and service so we certainly dropped the ball with you. If you had let us know you would have been moved to a different room and yours would have been properly cleaned for the next guest. We value all customers enormously and we are very sorry we let you down.

We stayed in one of the Beach cottages for three nights. We loved the design of the units - very comfortable and awesome attention to details. The bathroom in particular had me enthralled with its west coast vibe and handmade tiles.

The dining room menu and food is excellent with great views over the water. I highly recommend getting an outdoor spot with a view if you can and if the weather permits.

The rating reflects a lower level of service than is probably provided in non-Covid times. The front desk is not staffed and nobody answers the desk line between 12 and 2 as it is lunch time for staff.

It would be helpful to have maps of possible kayaking options in the rooms,

Renting kayaks was difficult. We were there for two full days and one of the days there was no rental possibility. The day I did rent it took me many calls, txt and walking around.

The kayak rental seemed a bit loose. Several people who rented at same time as me got in trouble trying to get around the small nearby Curlew Island as the tide was changing and we got trapped in tidal pools that were quite challenging to get out of. See map - and avoid that area between Horton Road and Curlew Island when the ties are changing.

Thanks for writing a review Danielle, so glad you loved the beach cottages. Your suggestions are excellent and will be considered. I am sorry it was difficult to rent a kayak and that you expereinced some strenuous tidal conditions. We will work on correcting our kayak booking link and we can do better informing kayakers of the ever changing local sea conditions. Thanks again for visiting us and I hope to see you again soon.

DO NOT BOOK HERE.
We received a Dirty hotel room, Black mould in the bathroom, stained sheets, and other people’s hair in the bathroom. The room was tiny.
The first night there it was 30 degrees out and our room did not have air conditioning. A small fan was placed in the corner. No windows opened to allow air flow.
Staff were IGNORANT. When confronted about the problem they did not apologize and did not care about how disappointed we were. This was our honeymoon and again they couldn’t care less.
Unless you’re prepared to book the cabins/villa’s, do NOT waste your money here.
The photos on Expedia are not an accurate representation of their “inn” rooms.

I am so sorry your room was in such poor condition, we really let you down. We had hoped you would take us up on the free upgrade to a villa for your next three days. We gave you a 100% refund but that doesn’t fix your ruined honeymoon. So sorry we messed up so bad. I would love to offer you a complimentary villa stay to redo your honeymoon. If you would like to take me up on this offer please phone the hotel and ask for me direct, you will not be disappointed. Again, I am so sorry this happened.
