If you are looking for walkability in Toronto, The Strathcona Hotel is perfect. Just around the corner from Union Station, you can walk to many of Toronto's attractions including The Metro Toronto Convention Centre, Ripley's Aquarium, The CN Tower, City Hall, The Eaton Centre, Queen Street and all of the wonderful restaurants just steps away.

The rooms are small but have all the amenities, including a night light in the hairdryer rack and an iron and board conveniently stored behind the bathroom door. There is an extra blanket and a suitcase stand; two items that are often missing in small rooms of other hotels. I especially liked that shampoo and shower gel is provided in a dispenser in the shower with font large enough to read unlike many of the small bottles that make using them a mystery.

I've attached photos of the bedding which is very comfortable, snacks that were made available, and the closeness of the Hotel to Union Station.

The staff were wonderful, very professional and knowledgeable .... and a whole lotta fun once you get to know them. Rubino and his co-workers provide excellent service!

My boyfriend and I had a truly wonderful stay at the Strathcona Hotel. The staff were incredible pleasant and helpful. Our room was great and very clean. Excellent location - walk everywhere. We ended up trying the breakfast they offer ($20pp). It was VERY high quality, great selection and you could tell it was prepared fresh. They even cook your eggs for you, just the way you like them! I would definitely recommend it - perfect fuel for a long day out in Toronto.

This will be our hotel of choice whenever we return to Toronto.

I love The Strathcona Hotel! I’ve stayed there the last few times I visited Toronto because it’s a great hotel.

This time, I stayed in one of the penthouse suites on the top floor. It was gorgeous! A beautiful grey leather sectional set the stage. It was perfect for watching tv or working.

The bedroom was well appointed, with a comfy queen bed and nice bedding.

And the bathroom...almost as big as an entire room, it had 4 shower heads - two regular and two massaging rain heads.

Michael checked me in, letting me into the room early (not expected but sincerely appreciated). He made sure I knew where the shopping mall was and some local restaurants. Excellent service!

And when I was leaving, the front desk staff were kind enough to hang on to my luggage for several hours so I didn’t have to drag it with me.

Also, its a couple of minutes from:
The train from the airport
The Metro Toronto Convention Centre
Stadiums
Shopping
Tons of great restaurants

If you want an affordable hotel that’s clean and well appointed, check out this hotel. It’s small but mighty!

Stayed just two nights here in a family room which, although felt a bit on the small side, was very clean & cosy with very comfortable beds. The Strathcona is pleasant, well maintained hotel, located a convenient 2 minute walk from Union Station (from which the UP Express train runs to/from Toronto airport). There are restaurants very close by and the hotel is only 5-10 walk away from the Toronto Eaton Mall. We had to adjust our travel plans as the Covid-19 restrictions increased, resulting in a late night flight back to Ireland. The hotel allowed us to stay on in our room til 3pm and looked after our cases while we went out to get something to eat (with no extra charge). The staff were very friendly and helpful, giving us some bottles of water when we finally left. Highly recommended and would defintely stay again if ever in Toronto.

My friends and I headed to Toronto for New Years Eve and (thought) we had booked a room with two doubles through Expedia. Turns out it was two singles and upon going to the busy front desk, we were greeted with great and flexible service. Tiffany offered us a good deal and we got to tour the King Suite with a housekeeper then, Michael, the manager, were told that we could upgrade for donating money to the food bank. What a great idea and win-win situation. The Suite was very nice and overall it was a very pleasant stay!

Have always stayed at a neighbouring hotel but then learned about the Strath. Original room was extremely small with little hobbit sized beds but we approached the front desk and they upgraded us to a Queen and all was good in the world again.

Best location! We were attending a concert and could walk there in 3 min. Tim Hortons across the street for your morning fix.

Staff were lovely and very helpful!!

Great staff, great stay

This hotel stay surpassed my expectations! Staff are very attentive and helpful specially the guest services manager zelika . We ere upgraded to a executive room, which was spacious and comfortable. The decor was nice and everything was in good condition. The beds were comfortable and the linens and pillows very nice. The bathroom was spotlessly clean. It really seemed that the housekeeping staff take a great deal of pride in their work, which I really appreciated.

York cafe was wonderful - nice decor, great staff, really nice buffet-style breakfast in the morning. I loved the morning coffee in the room .

It was a wonderful stay looking forward for the future stay.

I recently stayed here for one night for business. The hotel lobby and restaurant were beautifully decorated. The hotel itself seemed a bit dated but overall very clean!
It’s unbelievable how costly rooms are especially when you get the smallest (which I had) which was the Smart Queen. It’s like a New York bachelor apartment in that it’s basically a bed the size of the room. But the room was clean and had all the necessary room features so it was a comfortable stay. I think the significant price reflects the location which can’t be beat especially if you work in the financial district.

Reading negative reviews mainly focused on the size of the room. I was surprised as well to see how small the 'Executive Queen' room was (the ironing board took up any spare space). Having travelled bit, it reminded me of hotels in NYC and Chicago to name 2. What are we to expect right smack downtown close to everything? Prime real estate. Once I adjusted to the room size I was fine. The room was clean, had a coffee maker (tea for me) and a fridge which are 2 things that makes my stays more comfortable. We don't normally splurge on paying for breakfast but since we had plans that day, we figured it might be our only good sit down meal. Thank goodness we did. Don't let the small buffet setting fool you. They have a bit of more than you would expect. Enough to appease any diet. They cook your eggs fresh to order. They have standard bacon, sausage, hashbrown (best ever) but also fresh breads, fruits, smoothies, granola and oatmeal to name a few.
They had these delicious little pieces of cinnamon bread topped with banana and strawberry.
