We stayed here for one night. We knew Covid was affecting amenities and we were aware of the bagged breakfast and the restaurant being closed. The pool was also closed as are the inside pools at surrounding hotels. The price of the room all reflected this.

Our room was quite clean and tidy. The shower head wasn’t the greatest but that’s probably my only complaint about the room. The bagged lunch was more like a bag of snacks and it would have been better if it was optional.

Location is fairly close to the downtown area. There wasn’t much of a view from our room. But we were really only spending the night here as we started our vacation and were not there for amenities.

I’d stay here again for the purpose of just needing a bed and a clean room. Without Covid restrictions I also think they would typically be offering much more.

The hotel was booked thru Hotwire .com. We used that travel / reservation website in the past and got one of the hotels listed as possible.
This time the Hearthstone Inn was not listed among the options. We were disappointed with the hotel given by Hotwire and we will never use Hotwire ever again. Hotwire review is 0 of 10. You have to pay in advance and they give you the hotel they want.

Regarding the Hearthstone Inn, it is a 3 star hotel with friendly service. When we arrived the key of the given room didn’t work and we were given the Celtic room, which is decorated with the music instrument and music sheets. The room was clean as well as the bathroom. The hotel is fairly old and is in need of a good refit. That’s the reason of the review 3/5.
The breakfast was not included and was $7 per person. We saw locals coming for breakfast to the restaurant.

I was expecting a better hotel, but Hotwire disappointed us.

Stayed at the hearthstone inn for a Valentine’s Day get away with my pregnant girlfriend. Booked on their website because it had a pool and free hot breakfast. Pool was nice and clean, room was clean but the toilet keep running after being flushed and had to take the top off to fix it every time. Got up the next morning to go for our free hot breakfast as advertised, (and also told by the lady at the front desk that it was available upon check in) and their was not hot breakfast was informed by a gentlemen working there that it wasn’t available for another few weeks and the free hot breakfast was over in the corner. It was cold boiled eggs and toast your own toast. Not the free hot breakfast that was advertised.

I have stayed at this hotel in the past without issues so had no problem returning. That wont happen again their was hair all over my room and someone else's dirty clothes in the corner of the bathroom until we were checking out I thought they belonged to my husband he thought they belonged to me. I was double charged foe the room on my credit card and then ended up paying cash becuase they said my card was declined spent hours dealing with that. When checking out I realized I was over charged trying to get the refund difference that was a nightmare. Dealing with miss Lee the manager on duty was not fun she refused to even be helpful and 4 other rooms of people who were checking out also complained about the mess that was in their rooms not good service and bad experience over all. I was staying their with other parties in 3 other rooms and we all had issues with no assistance or resolutions to those issues I don't believe I will stay here ever again. Oh and to add insult to injury took an hour to leave becuase they never plowed the majority of their driveway or walkways and slipped when going to my car that my husband cleaned off becuase they never bothered to salt. I dont know what has happened to this hotel but it has gone down hill drastically. I'm not sure if you realize but a fire exit is required to be snow cleared at all times I understand during the storm it's not the easiest but after the storm it should have been cleaned immediately.

Dear Margaret, Thank you for sharing your opinion of the weekend events. As discussed when we spoke in person I did speak with all managers and employees involved. As we discussed I did confirm that all of the guestrooms you and your companions occupied were in fact inspected by our housekeeping manager prior to your arrival. I'm sorry you did not enjoy your rooms even after the front desk team assigned you rooms in a section of the first floor of the hotel that was not open in order to accommodate your requests and extended to you a heavily discounted rate that was not available during the nights of your stay. I also reviewed our snow plow log and discussed your concerns of the back drive not being plowed and according to our records the plow could not access the area you are referring to due to the fact that vehicles of the only guests staying on the first floor were blocking access. I am sorry you did not find your stay stellar, I apologize that the worst snow storm of the year happened on the weekend you were travelling, and i'm sorry that you feel our staff were the worst you have ever dealt with as everyone working that weekend has expressed to me how much of a pleasure you and your companions were to have as guests.

All in all you shouldn't waste your money, spend the 10 $ more and stay next door. Hotel needs some serious upgrades, stinky room. Our room had some serious drainage problems and not very sound proof. The water pressure in the shower and sink is very low. Restaurant or pool isn't open and your bagged lunch is very disappointing.

We have used this location in the past and had found it good for our needs however things have changed dramatically. We booked using booking.com but when we arrived, the hotel would not honour the rate. The restaurant that use to provide a good breakfast in the past is now gone and breakfast now consists of bagged muffins and bad coffee. When we checked in we were told the water was shut down for 50 minutes. When we asked for bottled water sufficient for personal hygiene...we were directed to the vending machine. Only through complaining did we receive a jug of water. The water was out for over 2 hours. So toilet flushing or showers were not available. After 1900 hours when the water was back, the TV would not work and had to be repaired. Will never be back.

I rented a large suite with a hot tub a month in advance, they called me up 6pm the night before the booking to tell me the room was unavailable, they put me in a "Business King" which was a tiny room with a king bed, not even comparable, I was still charged the same price though. They made is sound as it just was not going to have the hot tub on the phone.
They had "breakfast" in the lobby in the morning. It was basically a kids lunch bag with a juice box and a cereal bar. Everything in the hotel was "closed due to covid". Seriously go anywhere else.

While the price was fair for this hotel, nothing else was impressive. There were Ants everywhere in our room, and despite there supposing to be a full breakfast we got a brown bag with a yogurt, juice box, fruit cup & muffin. Now I understand Covid19 has made things difficult, but dont advertise something if you're not going to provide it! Ontop of that we had to keep going back to the front desk to have our room keys reactivated (apparently they cant be near your phone)..again a detail that should have been mentioned. At the back of the hotel there "could" be a great view of the Sydney harbor, but there is a decade of overgrowth that makes it look ratty and very untidy. As is the front entrance, you could almost miss the sign with the weeds and shrubs covering 75% of it! The attendants were very polite, but I expect as much in the service industry! The rooms have huge gaps at the bottom of the doors, so you will also get the pleasure of being woken at all hours from people coming in and out. And even the humidifiers in the hallways every 10 or 12 rooms doesnt drown out or lull the noise any. Unimpressed is the biggest understatement for this hotel/inn. It needs some serious work, which is sad as it looks like it once was a beautiful spot. Next time we will definitely stay up the road at one of the hotels directly on the water as they were only about $20/night more than here, and much nicer. The insulting part is the sign on the front desk saying they are a 3.5star hotel/inn, and I think giving it 2 stars would be being quite generous. So overall, not the greatest choice for places to stay while in Sydney.

Staff are the only thing good about this place.

I was put into the basement in room 121.. it was filthy. There was dust everywhere, the floor was not clean, the paint was peeling off the windows and walls. There was a lot of scuff/dents in the walls..

Got moved into another room downstairs which was a lot nicer looking but it was damp and smelled foul like mold I immediately had allergic reaction. The floors were filthy and under the bed had dirt and grime under it.. the bedskirts had stains I was afraid to sleep bc I thought I would see a mouse in my room. The damp musty smell kept me up all night I had to spray body mist to try and freshen the room. Pack allergy pills and allergy eye drops if you get out in those rooms.

I got moved into room 206 this one was better and not damp or foul smelling. The air conditioner needs to be cleaned bc there was a lot of dirt in it.

If you stay here bring your own water and snacks. They have a vending machine but no ATM to take money out. I had to use Skip to get water delivered..

There restaurant is closed on Mondays and they don’t have a liquor license so you can’t get a drink after a long day.

We stayed at the Hearthstone Inn on the sixth day of our seven day trip.

I have to say I was surprised by our stay at Hearthstone Inn. I expected more of a chain-style hotel stay, looking for something uncomplicated and straight forward for our last couple of days. However, what we were met with was an interesting mix of modern accommodations, mixed with a mid-century application of vintage furniture and old-school stylings. Our room had a giant chaise for Pete's sake! I was interested as soon as I saw the vintage lounges in the lobby.

All of that aside, I will say I was very satisfied with the value of the room we stayed in. The service was good, the room was very comfortable with yet again a bed that did not disappoint, and a binder that acted as a concierge, with local restaurants, attractions, and their contact numbers, which was a great touch when we needed to call a cab.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again if we happened to be in Sydney, although the only caveat is that the shower head was seriously lackluster, and needed to be replaced(we made due). 10/10 would stay again!
