I stayed at the Courtyard Downtown Edmonton for 5 nights in January 2020. I booked a King City View room.

I had chosen this hotel based on location- specifically proximity to Canada Place, the Federal Building in Edmonton. I also wanted a microwave as the amenity listing on Expedia indicated a microwave is included in the rooms.

I checked in quickly and easily with the hotel staff and took the elevator to the 10th floor. The view from the room was ok. I think the position and size of the hotel itself doesn’t allow for spectacular views of the city, but they were nice nonetheless. I’m told the view of the River Valley is nice. Those rooms come with a little higher cost. To my surprise the room actually doesn’t come with a microwave so the Expedia site must be wrong on that front. The Marriott site doesn’t say a microwave is included so best to always have a look at the actual hotel site. I called the front desk to ask about the microwave and they said they could send one up right away at no charge. They delivered it within 5 minutes and even called to follow up and make sure I got it. So very nice!

The room itself was very clean and the bed very very comfortable. The bathroom was also very clean and a good size. Only qualm I might have is that it would be nice to have a towel shelf and rack, as the towels sit under the sink and look slightly messy. There are hooks to hang the towels but they are too heavy and always seem to fall off. It was a little off putting because I had to keep using a new towel once it fell on the floor. The shampoos, lotion and soaps provided are quite small and for single use. I had to ask for additional bath products, but it’s so easy using the app to request these. And they came promptly and with zero problems.

The hotel is in a great location in close proximity to many things. Especially, Edmonton City Centre Mall for a quick bite to eat, the Convention Centre and The Art Gallery among other things. I did wish however, that the hotel had a pool. Again, I didn’t do my research well enough beforehand and came expecting a pool.

Overall I had a great trip. The excellent customer service really pushed this one over the top for me. I will be staying again, I’m sure.

The main floor registration area is still small but looks great, as does the first floor restaurant overlooking the river valley. Registration people were friendly and efficient.

The rooms are small and have been modernised. However, the dresser still has four holes drilled through the top (they could at least fill them with some similar looking filler), and I would paint the wooden doors which I feel date the rooms.

Bed was comfortable. Hotel was quiet. I had great sleeps.

Charging $2.50 for bottled water in the rooms seems silly to me, when they can be bought for 25 cents. I would give them for free or not even place them in the rooms. They could give out 100 bottles a night and that would probably cost them less than $25.

Stayed at the Courtyard for 2 nights with husband to attend a convention. Check in was quick and valet parking was efficient. We had room service both nights - first night we tipped on the bill, second night I tipped again but the young man told me that tip had already been added so I could scratch it out. That would have been nice to know on the first night, so we were pleased with this young man’s honesty, and as well, he was exceptionally polite and courteous. Wished that I’d gotten his name. Both nights the food was delicious and well-prepared. For breakfasts we had the buffet one morning (cold and expensive, and ordered off the menu the next morning. Much better food (the yogurt parfait was delicious), and less expensive. The room was spacious and comfortable (2 queens with river view). Beds were good, pillows too soft for me, but I’m picky. First night we were kept awake by a loud banging/humming noise. I suspect that the laundry was near us. Second night was better. The toilet tank in the bathroom had difficulty filling up, so wouldn’t flush all the time. We called maintenance to fix it the first night but it remained an issue so we just sorted it out ourselves. All in all, a good stay and we would return.
The best thing about our stay was the service. Every staff member we encountered was extremely polite and gracious, and all requests were met quickly. For this service, proximity to the convention centre and for overall value, the Courtyard will be our Edmonton choice.

This hotel is in a good location and I picked it because it had good reviews and was reasonably priced. The first major issue: the room is freezing cold. It has one of the loudest heaters I've ever heard and it's been on full blast for my entire stay, yet the room never gets warm enough. There's very little hot air coming out of the vent. Also, one wall is entirely windows which makes for a nice view, however the windows are old and the seals are shot, this is also why the room is freezing. The bathroom is beautiful but this also means that the tile floor is freezing. It's Edmonton in winter time, it's not acceptable for your customers to be frozen. Next, you need to insert your key card to work the elevator. If you dont have your key card immediately ready to swipe within 2 seconds, it shoots you to a random floor because someone else pressed the button. Very frustrating. None of the tv display channels match what channel they're actually on. The gym is acceptable and has free weights and some machines. The ice machine on my floor didn't make ice, it just made noise for 3 minutes. The 3rd floor smelled like smoke one night. Front desk didn't answer when I called to let them know. They offer you 250 of their rewards points if you elect for no house keeping...seems chincy. The fridge in the room was set to as cold as possible so my items froze. The restaurant seems to be nothing special and my coffee seemed to be forgotten for a while and was watery when it did come. Only 1 of 2 key cards they gave me worked. Every staff I interacted with were minorities which is fine except there was a language barrier a few times. Nothing is the end of the world but it's the little details where this hotel completely missed the mark. There's lots of other options downtown so will stay elsewhere next time.

My husband and I stayed here for 1 night from 7-8 August and we regret spending $130 on our stay. Firstly, there is a lot of public construction going on in front of the hotel. At check-in, we were told that all rooms were sold out except the junior suites so they were upgrading us. My husband is a bonvoy elite member, entitled for a late-checkout but they refused that too. One of the elevators wasn’t working. When we reached our room, it didn’t open. The housekeeper also tried, but the door was jammed. We came back to reception after waiting for a long time because only one elevator was available. Then we went back to another floor with new room keys. The ‘junior suite’ was just an oversized room with 2 queen beds and a dining table. Minibar was empty, the coffee machine didn’t work. There was no bathtub, and water from the shower leaked on to the floor. No complimentary water bottle and no locker in the room. Their hand and bath soap smelled like unscented clay. The room corridors are dark and crampy, and you can hear the people talking in the corridor. The reception staff didn’t know that breakfast on Sundays are served until 11:30 am so we were misinformed about that as well. The only plus point for us was the riverview at the cafe. I have stayed in Marriott properties around the world, this one definitely doesn’t deserve to be a marriott.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Upon arrival another customers vehicle was broken into. When we went to check out they didn’t ask how we were paying for the room just assumed it was going on the card used for the deposit when it wasn’t even though upon check in we said the room was going onto another card. 6 days later they still didn’t release the deposit to us and when my boyfriend called to find out why they didn’t release the deposit yet they hung up on him 3 times and told him to deal with his bank about it even though he asked to speak with a manager about it they still hung up on him. They were very rude and unprofessional during our stay!

Watch your credit cards people they like to double charge you 3 weeks later and all we are getting is the run around!!!!!!

we were one of four couples were attending the Rocky Mountain Wine and Food Festival this past Friday at the Convention Center next door, so we all decided to get rooms so no one would have to drive home later (we all live within an hour max of downtown but also wanted to enjoy our night without concern).

Check in was easy and efficient. Room was clean and modern enough. Bed was comfortable with typical amenities...flat screen tv, little fridge, coffee maker, etc.

Valet parking was odd. Go park yourself and hand your keys in to front desk and get a claim tag. Checkout time, they give you your keys back and thats it. Not really valet in my opinion and not sure why I needed to give them my keys. No inconvenience or anything, just wouldnt call it valet service.

Nice little lounge on the main floor also, and while we were checking out the small restaurant looked busy for breakfast but we did not take part.

Good hotel for what we needed in a good location. Easy to recommend.

I was on a business trip that was only a 3 minutes away so this was the perfect location for me. The hotel was clean. Some things I didn’t enjoy:

- The lobby area is small. There isn’t much seating and it gets loud with the restaurant being right at the lobby.

- The food at the restaurant is not great and the drinks are terrible. They definitely water down their drinks as I tasted no alcohol in my sangria. It was like having grape juice.

I liked the spacious rooms and the nice view. It was definitely convenient to stay here but there are many hotels around this area I could stay at.

PinoyWatchdog wrote a review Aug 2020
The room was quiet and spacious. The staff were very courteous; Sid at the front desk was very responsive to our requests. I think they really make an effort to make your stay pleasant, but here are the 3 reasons why I gave a 3.5* rating:
(1) There was what appeared to be mould on one of the ceiling tiles (see photo). I could have given a 1* rating because of this but the staff addressed it right away and were very apologetic about it so I bumped it up. However, we spent the first night not knowing this was there. Regular inspections and maintenance would have caught this, in my opinion.
(2) We registered 4 guests and there were only 3 towels available; I immediately got another one upon request but I think a good hotel should make the effort to "know their guest" before they arrive.
(3) I booked online and asked for a room with a view of the Saskatchewan River. I was not given one -- which would have been fine if I were given a reason why. There was no mention about it before, during, nor after our stay.

Overall, I would still recommend this hotel. The issues I raised above are fixable.

Great Location. Very nice hotel. Clean rooms for sure. Great walk in shower. Shower head needs replacing otherwise all good. Great price when I booked it in January, however, had to book an extra day as we had a car problem and had to pay $40 extra. I thought that was ridiculous. Not very supportive of your client. Oh well. All in all would definitely recommend this place. Lovely young lady on the front desk from Nigeria. Certainly knew her job. Loved dealing with her. Expensive car storage for $40 per night for secured parking. That was a rip!
