My husband and I stayed here on our way back to the US From our vacation on eleauthera island. We were told Orange Hill was the closest hotel but it was fully booked. Casuarinas is an old hotel (old window unit but it worked great, old somewhat stained lampshades) but the service is great. The guy at the office arranged a taxi for us and called and reminded us and the taxi driver about daylight savings time. The room was clean (no sticky floors) but the bed was hard. I would recommend this if Orange Hill is full. The friendly staff is the highlight.

My wife and I can't understand the bad reviews of this place.Netties do not advertise as 5 star-if you want 5 star go to a resort-you get what you pay for.
Yes it is basic and older than other resorts but we found it clean and tidy and the staff friendly and helpful. We did not have a kettle and on asking was provided with a microwave -within half an hour-perhaps it is the way you ask.
The pool is old not dirty and the restaurant food was fine-nice home cooked meals.A free Rum punch each was offererd on arrival
Taxis do stop as Netties is not far from apartments and resorts.
The Bahamas economy is based on tourism and everything costs-but no more than the USA.A previous review talks about a walking pocket book-try coming from a country with no tipping culture and spending 5 days in Miami-that is a walking pocket book(and without the service).
I love the USA and the people and have travelled there several times-but sometimes I think you expect 5 star sevice from 2 star prices.
Netties is not that bad- you get what you pay for and remember you are in the islands-things are far more relaxed and laid back so chill don't get uptight and go with the flow-if you do you will have a great holiday.

Won't stay again. This place is a dump. Not clean, dimly lit and tiny rooms. Bathroom was last renovated in the 70s. The pool is over-chlorinated and really hurt the eyes. On a very busy street, makes access quite dodgy without an area for pickup and drop off

Do NOT stay at this hotel. It is poorly run and in a dangerous area. We had a 1 night layover after a missed flight. The airline made our reservation (1 room, 2 adults, 2 children, 2 double beds - $175). While on the phone they also made and additional reservation for another family of four. We heard both sides of the conversation. After a $35 taxi to the hotel late at night, we were told that we need 2 rooms for each family for $175 each or $350 per family. We argued and they agreed to the original $175. As each family entered their respective rooms (single double bed), the desk clerk chased the other family to their room and kicked them out. A few minutes later we were evicted as well. We were told we had to pay an additional $175. The other father and I refused. After heated arguments, they eventually let us stay, in the room we originally booked for the agreed upon price. This was clearly a well practiced shakedown operation. I am reporting them to the American Embassy in The Bahamas. The rooms are dirty, very old, the windows and doors don't lock well. I slept in a chair by the door because I was worried about an intruder, We had a late night door pounding and phone call (did not answer or open). Fled the next morning after daylight as soon as we could get a cab and waited 6 hours at airport instead. It was like something from a movie about the bad things that can happen to unwary travelers. I have never written a review and have nothing but good things to say about the rest of my trip. Long Island was wonderful. The people, beaches, snorkeling, accommodations and food were great. I have traveled from the South Pacific to Europe, I have stayed in houses, hotels, motels, trailers, tents, cabins, slept in cars and airports - THIS is by far the worst place i have ever stayed.

Checked out this hotel on web..pics were deciving. Refused to stay. No telephone in room, used a
pay phone to call another hotel and taxi. Staff were very nice and kind. I considered this to be
very old, not well kept. had no divewayjust sand in front next to highway. No ocean view as picutered
on web page.
Felt like we were "duped".

This review is about five months overdue, but we were just talking about it today and how much we can't wait to go back...
After booking a spur-of-the-moment trip to the Bahamas in two days my boyfriend and I were looking for a laid-back, hospitable, and unpretentious getaway. This place was it.
Granted, there is no gilded gateway or casino, but Marsha and crew are more real and fabulous than any resort can be through artificial means and faux art on the walls. Their welcome was warm, their food was steaming, and their down-to-earth nature was unbeatable. We have traveled all throughout the Caribbean, and have stayed in five-star hotels but this one was the most memorable and the most enjoyable. We felt a real sense of the generosity and graciousness that the Bahamas are known for at the Casuarinas and their floral surroundings set the scene for a truly relaxing vacation.
Perhaps the most memorable moment of our stay came late at night over a couple of Kaliks on the balcony of our second floor room. A warm tropical squall blew over the pool and ours was the perfect vantage point for a muffled but explosive light and rumble show.
The hotel is about a five minute bus ride from downtown Nassau, but all the stops and beaches in between, that are delightfully in walking distance, were more fun than the typical tourist shops and bars downtown. Definitely stop by the cricket fields and eat at Chris's restaurant there...the English breakfast was scrumptious.
Catch a soccer game after hours and find the energy levels on par with your average soccer match on television.
A perfect vacation and a perfect accommodation.

The Casuarinas is by far the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. It nearly ruined my vacation. Be aware that they have no problems with false advertisement as we were promised many things before we got there that were non-existent. I paid extra for an ocean view but I soon realized that there was no view of the ocean from any point in the hotel. There was supposed to be two pools, but upon arrival we realized that there was only one very small, dirty with chipped pain, poor excuse for a pool. The room was dirty, i.e. lipstick stains on the pillow, the toilet couldn’t flush and although I specifically requested to be in a room with a fridge and microwave I was told that I would get them only if they were able to find one somewhere, maybe tomorrow, or the day after that. At night, cabs stop going there and so my friends and I literally had to trick another hotel into sending us a cab by saying we were stranded at the Casuarinas. The staff, when available, was very nonchalant about our various grievances. After one night, thinking that everywhere else was booked, we considered cutting our trip short and leaving the Bahamas. Luckily, there was a cancellation at another hotel and we promptly, that is after waiting for the lady at the front desk who was nowhere to be found, left. It is definitely not worth the money, if you plan in advance you can stay somewhere nicer for cheaper, if you wait last minute, you’d be better off paying extra for a decent place. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone unless everywhere else is booked, and even then I'd rather just go to another country.

We just returned from a week on New Providence Island (May 2003). We stayed two nights at the Casuarinas and then moved to the Comfort Suites on Paradise Island. The Casuarinas is primitive. The room we stayed in was clean but very well used. I dont think there had been any updates except some paint for the last 15 years. Our room had a kitchenette with crusty dishes included. The rooms with kitchenettes are across the street from the hotel lobby and the beach!!. The rooms are all accessible from the outside; so security is an issue. We seemed to be the only guests in the entire place maybe saw two other people. The staff was polite. I suspect this place is hopping with the 19 year old spring breakers; unless that is your seen I would stay away...

If you pan Casuarinas, you must not have stayed at other "Resorts" on Nassau- esp. North Island. Wife and I booked a Beachfront resort near Stewart Cove- What a scuzzy, mold dive. We left after heated words with management and travel agency.
Then we found Casurinas. OK, so the glass door jams were a little rusty; the place a little older. Casuarinas is like home- a little part of Heaven's hide-a-way on crowded Cable Beach. Great lush tropical landscaping. Very private beach area. Quiet, secluded areas for you and your sweetie!
I bet the folks who do not like this place probably don't eat dinner out of the backof some local person's van (ie. Tyrone, the "Fritter Man" at Queens Staircase) They need a bit more hand-holding.
Casuarinas is a great place, Great Value! I'm currently booking our next trip now to go back.

It's all about what you're looking for. Have experienced this hotel twice, in 2005 and in 2006. My family will stay there again next time. This is an older hotel offering basic accomodations with clean airconditioned rooms, comfortable beds, a pool, restaurant and access to a private beach. It is not a resort and doesn't claim to be. The atmosphere is laid back. The staff is very friendly but not underfoot, I call that perfect. The rates are economical and come with no extra taxes/charges. The pool is clean, the beach is accessed by crosswalk across the street, and what a great little beach with beautiful sand, waters and views. Love the Cable Beach location. Grocery stores are nearby, so is Pizza Hut and Domino's Pizza, Subway submarines, Dairy Queen, Cafe, Italian Restaurant, Liquor store - all within walking distance. Catch the bus or call a cab to go downtown, for sightseeing, shopping, nightlife, etc., yet feel tucked away from the crowds when you get back. If you want a resort type stay with modern decor and lots of extras, go elsewhere. If you're just looking for a reasonably priced, well situated little spot to sleep comfortably, eat, and relax on the beach during your Nassau vacation, Nettie's has it. [""]
