This lovely hotel is just the place to be in St. Lucia. Clean, friendly and enjoyable. I will stay again and again. Although not on the beach, you can get there in less than 5 min., walking... Give the Blu a chance, you won't regret it!

I always pay more attention to bad reviews than to good ones, and as well as plenty of good ones there were enough bad ones of Blu Hotel to make me nervous. I recommend everyone to read those reviews because that way you will be very pleasantly surprised. Our top floor room was high ceilinged, airy, light and a decent size. One reviewer whinged that there were no floor coverings: true, but in 30C temperatures we want cool marble-style tiling rather than carpets. The bathroom was dated but we weren't on St Lucia to assess the grouting. Everything that needed to work worked fine. Blu Hotel only supply double beds. I asked beforehand what size they were and was told a standard king size. In the U.K. that would mean a 5 foot bed. At Blu Hotel it was the most comfortable 6 foot bed I have ever found in a hotel. We may have been lucky with our neighbours but it was also the most soundproof room I remember. The room service kept the room immaculately clean. My only complaint would be that because all the rooms face in towards the poolside bar, you can't escape the background music but where in St Lucia (or the Caribbean as a whole) doesn't that apply? All the staff from reception to the alfresco breakfast buffet were exceptionally charming and helpful. But the best feature of the hotel is its location, 150 yards from the best beach on the island (so why are people whingeing that there weren't enough sun loungers at the pool?) and within 5 minutes walk of four of St Lucia's best restaurants. When we heard what other people were paying for all-inclusive resorts in very remote spots, our first reaction was that Blu Hotel (where you would do best to be on a bed and breakfast basis) was excellent value for money. If you want a base from which to explore the island, you could not do better.

The Blu Hotel is a wonderful place and reasonably priced to stay in Rodney Bay. It is a couple of minute walk to Reduit Beach and a ten-minute walk into the main part of Rodney Bay where there are shops and restaurants. We spent two weeks there during the later half of July and during that time got to know the staff by name. I was in St. Lucia working during the day while my wife enjoyed the hotel swimming pool and Reduit Beach, as well as going on her own excursions, which the hotel helped arrange. The hotel has tennis courts and the staff offered to provide a tennis racket and a coach for my wife, if she wanted. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Our maid, Mary, knew how much we liked coffee from the Lavazza Expresso machine in our room, so she would make sure it was always well stocked. We were able to buy milk at the supermarket and keep it in our mini-fridge to make foamy lattés in our room every morning. After a few days, we upgraded to a larger room, Room 203, which provided a desk and sitting area for work and a larger balcony with to lounge chairs and an easy chair overlooking the pool. The beds were super comfortable! The hotel restaurant is adequate for dinner, but not exceptional. The menu seems to be static and very limited. In the morning the room included a good buffet breakfast, with eggs made to order, fresh fruit, juices, and interesting local sides like spinach and pumpkin, as well as cereal and muffins. The buffet varied from day to day, but one thing that was consistent was that the coffee was terrible! I didn’t complain as we had the espresso maker in our room. We hope to return one day and would highly recommend this relaxed, peaceful hotel to anyone.

Note: This is not a five star luxury resort hotel, but it is reasonably priced, friendly and comfortable.

Was here last month and was very happy with everything. I usually get recommendations but too a chance to stay here without one. I am happy i did as i had a great night sleep. Only complaint was one member of staff was not very helpfuly but that was quickly resolved as a supervisor intervened. I would recommend the property.

So where do I start. Customer service is a joke I call to confirm the dates as we had not received booking confirmation email. Was told by a young lady in England that she could not give that information. Had to have a friend of my friend go to the hotel and get the telephone number because the phone number for the hotel is not published anywhere on the internet you only get the uk and USA numbers. So asking the hotel anything is hard.

The entranceway where they do the checking is lovely, the pool area is lovely, the rooms and Resturant there they do the breakfast needs work.

This hotel has no lift or elevators to get up to the second or third floor. The steps are not stucturely song either and all they have been doing is painting over the cracks which you can now see in the step and hams that hold them up.
The railing is rusted and worn out and need replacing.

The rooms: the bed was comfortable, the room was clean well, however the shower needs to be better cleaned and there was no hot water in my room, for the time I was there. My friends woke up one night to ants.

The breakfast: While there is a good selection of different items for breakfast a lot of it is burnt or dried out from being in the warmers for to long, the staff at breakfast as dead rude the openly stear and gossip about guest while you are stilling there. One morning I arrived to breakfast at 830am the bacon was burnt I asked if there would be more coming I was told there is only one set of bacon put out per day, breakfast finishes at 1030 am. I asked for hot water and when I was leaving I was asked if I still wanted the hot water 45 minutes after the time I asked for it.

would I stay here again no. Would I tell people about this place not in a positive way. Did I realise it was a buget hotel when I booked it no.

This hotel is a joke. Worst I have ever stayed. Don't believe other reviews. Actually this place doesn't even deserve a review.
My room did not have a phone nor bed lamp bulbs/CFL. Leaking taps, leaking roof, rain water falling directly onto the bed, mosquitoes. Bit hard and thick pillows. Rusted hinges everywhere. List goes on....
Nothing was changed nor provided in spite of several complaints.
I stayed with other colleagues. Everyone had problems.
I wonder how this hotel is running. I pity the staff.
Better sleep on the footpath or somewhere else. You will save the money.

Terrible experience at Hotel Blue. Moved rooms 3 times, each one as bad as the last. Checked out a few days into our 10 night stay at went as far away from Rodney Bay as possible.

Room 1: Bathroom was disgusting, mouldy, cracked tiles, shower curtain hanging off a strong and (weirdly) there were Molton Brown refillable bottles which certainly didn't contain MB products. Rawl plugs sticking out the wall, stained fabrics, I could go on..
Room 2: Toilet and AC unit leaked. Same comments as above.
Room 3: Faced out onto the main street, right next to a generator which buzzed loudly through the night, as did the pub right next door.

The hotel played Bob Marley pretty much constantly. We get it, we're in the Caribbean...

Rodney Bay didn't do it for us personally. If I'd wanted to be offered coke on the beach and order a Dominos Pizza, I could have went to Magaluf. Ended up complaining through our tour operator and getting a refund as experience was so poor.

On the plus side, there's pretty good coffee machines in the rooms and the breakfast was surprisingly nice...

We booked an All Inclusive break at this hotel with Secret Escapes and recieved an upgrade to suite and free spa treatment. Booking through Secret Escapes we got an extremely good price. The room was very comfortable and the balcony fairly large with a very comfortable chair and two of the loungers that are around the pool together with toweling wraps for the cushions and towels. There were 4 large bottles of water in the fridge which were replaced during the week. The Spa is lovely and the treatment was really good.
The best thing about this hotel is the staff who are always friendly and smiling - this includes staff behind the bar, the restaurant and the chefs plus all staff on reception and in housekeeping.
There were a couple of issues with the room which were sorted out fairly quickly - as mentioned in another review the safe is not fixed to the wall but very heavy and there is security around all the time.
The Hotel caters for a mixture of business and holiday visitors - we were virtually the only guests on AI package - there are many good restaurants close by - but all the drinks were premium (a Tanqueray and tonic each evening) and the wines better than we have had on previous visits to St Lucia. The menu was the same throughout our stay but there are specials each lunch time and evening. We decided on the hotel because it was all al a carte and we do not like buffets - the portions were large but the chef always came out and saw us and we were always given small portions! The salads were very good and the dressings also good. The restaurant is quiet, as is the hotel in the evenings. Nicely quiet during the day, always a very comfortable bed by the pool. They also give you a token when you go to the beach, which is very close by, which entitles you to beds and an umbrella, they also give you bottled water to take down. The guy on the beach is also very helpful and we were always given prime position. The sea can be quite rough and there were no fish for snorkling whilst we were there.
We would go down to the beach in the evenings to watch the sunset with a beer in Spinnakers and went out for lunch a couple of times to Jacques waterside restaurant, virtually next door. They have an excellent Sunday Jazz brunch (sax, double bass and steel drums - the later works very well and his is an excellent musician).
You can walk into town quite easily where there are shops and a large supermarket (the sign outside inferred that it was part of Waitrose!!?)
We liked the hotel because of it's position, the fact that it was not a resort and you could go for a walk and find other bars/restaurants and because of the staff. Also no buffets (they would also cook al a carte breakfasts although we don't eat large breakfasts and were all inclusive so had lunch and dinner).
There is a noisy bar close by but although we could hear it when in the restaurant we heard no noise when in our room (205).

blu St Lucia

Before you read this review, please be aware that we only used the hotel for sleeping and eating, we had a hire car and explored the island every day. This will obviously give us a different view/impression of the hotel than if you are planning to stay by the pool all day.

blu St Lucia is situated in the Rodney Bay area, in the north-west of St Lucia. Driving time from the international airport is 1.5 – 2 hours depending on the traffic, which can be bad in Castries, especially if there is a cruise ship in. The road across the island is spectacular, with many bends and steep hills.

The hotel is at the far end of Rodney Bay, the Marina end, so it is a little bit of a walk to the main shopping area, although there are a few restaurants along the way. We found Rodney Bay itself to be quite touristy, and probably our least favourite place in St Lucia. As soon as we exited the car (in the shopping area, not by the hotel) we were accosted by a very aggressive beggar; and five minutes later we were at the receiving end of a typical scam: “I recognise you from your hotel...”

I understand that other guests have been disturbed by a local karaoke bar, which appeared to be closed (for renovation?) when we were there, so we found the area to be very quiet at night.

To reach the beach you walk along the road for 30-40 metres or so, then cross over and walk down a wide gravel path. It looked like there were plenty of sunbeds for hire on the beach, although we never used one.

From the bottom of the road (some 40-50m from the hotel), you can take a water taxi across to the marina/Gros Islet, although they don't operate at night if you were thinking of going to the Friday night street party in Gros Islet.
Hotel location 8 out of 10

As we pulled up by blu St Lucia in our hire car, a staff member came out to greet us, addressing us by name. He then proceeded to ask if we would like a fruit punch or a rum punch. Great welcome – they were obviously expecting us (we were presumably the last to check in that day), and it made us feel very special. The check in was quick and painless and we were shown to our room – our cases were carried for us.
Check-in 10 out of 10

Our room was on the first floor, above the TV room, looking out over the restaurant and bar, with the reception to the left. Beyond the pool and tennis courts, we could just see the top of the masts of vessels leaving Rodney Bay Marina. There wasn't a great view from the balcony, the most exiting things were the magnificent frigatebirds flying above and watching other guests changing without drawing their curtains.

There were coffee making facilities in the room, but no a Lavazza coffee machine as advertised. No big deal to us, but it might be to others.

The bed was large and very comfortable, with a memory mattress (which did appear to be sloping off on the edges) which was great for my bad back! Also in the room was a built in hanging wardrobe, an in-room safe, a small fridge, a large chest of drawers, two bedside tables, a comfortable chair, a luggage stand and a standard lamp. I would have liked a small coffee type table that we could have used inside or on the balcony.
Bedroom 9 out of 10

The bathroom was small but very clean and more than adequate. I know some people thought the bathrooms were tired, we did not find that – I don't know if we had a refurbished bathroom or were just lucky. The shower was very powerful, in fact it was much better than the one we have at home! There were three different toiletries in pump-style containers in the shower, with such small writing (and not particularly good light in that area) that I had to put my glasses on the read which one I should be using for what purpose. Very soft water.
Bathroom 9 out of 10

The balcony was a decent size, with two comfortable chairs. One was a wicker chair with a built in small table to hold your drink, and a footstool. The other was just plain (hence the desire for a coffee table to hold my drink). I noticed some rooms had two of the wicker chairs on their balcony, whereas the larger rooms have sun loungers on theirs.
Balcony 9 out of 10

The pool area is in the inner courtyard of the hotel, and the pool itself is two-storey with water cascading over steps between the two pools. You can swim in both. The pool is not very deep, with a maximum of 5ft. There are a couple of dozen sunbeds around the pool – nowhere near enough for all the guests, and I was told that if you weren't out there with your towel at 05:00, you didn't stand a chance of getting one. This would have been a HUGE draw-back for me if I wanted to sunbathe. As it was, a couple of times I would have wanted to just sit and relax with a book, but had to retreat to my room to do so.
Pool area 4 out of 10

There is a small shop in the hotel which is supposed to be open from 09:00-17:00 but isn't always. I was told that if the door is locked, just ask at reception and they will open the store for you. They sell such things as post cards (and stamps – although if they have run out of stamps, you can leave the cards with reception and just pay for the postage and they will post them for you when they next go to the post office. Or, of course, you can go to the post office in Rodney Bay yourself), swimwear, souvenirs, flip-flops, suntan lotion and other toiletries, St Lucian hot sauce (and boy, it really IS hot!!!) and snacks such as crisps.
Shop 9 out of 10

My husband arrived with a bad back from a long and uncomfortable flight, and had a massage on the second day there. It was described as a “fitness massage” of one hour, but the masseur suggested just half an hour. Nice as it was, the massage was really just a rough rub, and did little to alleviate my husband's bad back.
Massage 5 out of 10

There is a gym and a TV room but as we did not enter either, I cannot comment on this.

Breakfast was served from 07:30 to 10:30 allegedly, but the two days we were there first thing, they did not open on time. Be prepared that things run on “island time”, and not like clockwork like it might at home. One guest became VERY irate when they did not open on time and was quite abusive to the staff. Just chill and go with the flow. The breakfast was buffet style, with cereal, fruit, bread (only one small four slice toaster) and a variety of hot foods which changed daily (French toasts, sausages, local pasties, saltfish, bacon, fried potatoes, chicken nuggets, pancakes). A chef to cook eggs, with a long queue most of the time. The gas burners for eggs seemed very slow, but the omelettes were amazing! Sometimes the breakfast area (breakfast was served in a different area to lunch and dinner) would become full and staff would go and collect tables and chairs from the pool area/restaurant. I never saw anyone waiting for a table for very long though.
Breakfasts 7 out of 10 (let down by opening times, toaster and queues for eggs)

Lunch was taken around the pool, same as dinner. The tables are under cover from the sun. The menu was short and sweet and didn't change the whole week we were there. Starters: soup, chicken wings, garlic bread; salad: mixed garden or Ceasar; Burger: chicken, beef or fish; entree: chicken alfredo, fish of the day and Lucian roti. Between the two of us we tried every single item on the menu, and I can state that it was all good.

One day (Saturday, which must have been change-over day) was really, really busy and we waited over an hour for the salad (first course) to arrive. The waitress was very apologetic, but obviously it was beyond her control. We were not in a hurry so it didn't really matter to us. Most of the time the food arrived promptly.
Lunch 9 out of 10

For dinner, the same tables were dressed with white tablecloths and napkins (they also use proper cloth napkins at lunch, which always gets a bonus point from me – you could say I am a napkin snob). The dinner menu did change during the week, but was still quite limited – which isn't actually a negative in my book, as too much choice can be so confusing! During our stay we had: tuna fish with caper sauce; lamb with red wine sauce; vegetable pakoras; pork steak with creole sauce and fried plantains; battered grey snapper with ginger sauce. For dessert there was always ice cream and we also tried the carrot cake, key lime pie and chocolate cake. Five nights of the week the food is a la carte, one night there is a BBQ and one night they serve a buffet. All the food we tried was very good at worst, excellent at best. The food was always nicely presented and the portions not too big which suits me down to the ground.
Dinner 10 out of 10

We were on an all-inclusive package, and that included breakfast, lunch and dinner, coffee and cakes as well as all drinks. And when I say all, I really do mean all – even cocktails and branded spirits were included. The bar is between the restaurant and the pool, and offers a few bar stools for guests as well as table service. We never noticed the bar getting rowdy or crowded at night, so if you are after somewhere with a lively night-life, this hotel may not be for you.
Drinks 8 out of 10 – let down by the fact that the bar ran out of beers twice on the weekend and that refills during dinner weren't always forthcoming.

There is a coffee shop on site which served coffees, teas, milkshakes, smoothies, ice creams and cakes, but we never actually tried it as we were never there during the day apart from a few lunchtimes.

Staff. What can I say about the staff? I don't know where to begin... each and every one of the people who served us, cleaned our room, carried our bags, checked us in, booked us an excursion... they were all first class. The people of St Lucia are all genuine, friendly, smiling at the best of times, and it seems Hotel blu has picked the best out of an excellent bunch. Nothing is too much trouble, everything is done with a smile. It seems the people are nice to you because that's the way they are, not because you are a tourist and they want something from you. A special mention must go to our favourite waitress Cathy, who had such a great sense of humour as well as all the other lovely attributes mentioned above.
Staff 20 out of 10 with Cathy 25 out of 10

We had a strong wifi signal at all times during our stay, both in the room and the restaurant. I don't know if we were just lucky, or whether it was because our room was so near the reception.
Wifi 10 out of 10

One night each week, staff and management invite you to a cocktail party where the intention is for you to meet the staff and for them to find out how you are enjoying your stay. The staff mingled with the guests and were open to suggestions and comments about the hotel. Drinks and snacks were served, but it was very difficult to get anywhere near the food, as some guests were crowding around and hogging the dips etc. It might have been better to place the snacks on smaller tables around the room rather than one large table. The evening was also used as a platform for local artists and shop keepers to display their wares, such as woodcarvers and jewellers. It could be a very nice evening to mix with other guests if that is what you are after (we tend to be quite anti-social when we travel)
Cocktail party 7 out of 10 – let down by lack of “traffic management” around the snacks

Having previously had a very bad experience with an all-inclusive hotel in the Caribbean, I was very apprehensive of the AI at blu. I need not have worried. The blu is a small hotel where you can choose to go AI or B&B. The AI was such good value for money (St Lucia is not a cheap place to take a holiday, generally), and I am so glad we opted for that plan. At the first meal you take in the restaurant, the waiting staff will ask you which plan you are on, and after that you just give your room number when you order. No naff arm bands to wear, no vouchers or cards to hand over. There was an extra change for steaks at dinner, otherwise all other food was included.

The other guests were from a number of different nationalities which may be a pro or a con depending on which way you look at it. I personally like a multinational hotel as I think it gives it a nicer feel, but if you are after a “British Hotel” you may be disappointed. Most of the guests were youngish to middle aged couples, although there were a few singles too, mostly girls. All were well behaved, respectful (apart from the one at breakfast), and quiet in the evening. This is not a party hotel, thankfully. We saw one young child one day, and a baby the whole time we were there; no other children. Some people stay for a week +, others just one or two nights, and guests arrive on different days so it can seem a little transient at times.

The hotel is totally non smoking throughout, or at least that is the theory – it seems a couple of people didn't believe the rules applied to them. We saw one person hanging off their balcony smoking and another wandering around by the pool at dinner time.

Excursions arranged through the hotel or holiday rep are quite expensive, with the average being about $120 per person for a day trip. If you do intend to explore the island I would suggest renting a car.

To sum up, we absolutely loved the blu St Lucia, especially the staff. It is a fairly simple hotel without many frills and a few rough edges such as rust/chipped paint etc; but I feel that is reflected in the price. We would certainly go back and overall I think it offers excellent value for money and a great place to stay!

We booked this hotel as a B&B package holiday, having been led to believe from the sales material on the website that this would be a great base for a romantic break away in the sun. Unfortunately there is a local karaoke bar call the Happy Days Bar, which blares music out nightly until at least 3am. The first night we called reception as the music was so loud we thought it was coming from the hotel bar. Although the noisy bar is nothing to do with the hotel, when we queried the window vibrating noise levels and complained to the hotel management, they appeared to not care or empathise. The lack of an apology only proved to increase our anger levels especially with the prospect each evening of trying to drown out the noise by running a noisy fan and air conditioning unit, together with stuffing cotton wool in our ears. The noise is definitely a big problem and it certainly ruined our holiday and is hardly romantic and we paid a lot of money to come to St Lucia. The hotel needs to smarten up its act considerably if it wishes to keep its 4 star rating. The rooms are okay, the pool area in the day is okay, breakfast is plentiful (home made banana bread was lovely), but the whole place looks and feels tired, but not as tired as I am as I type this with my lack of sleep recently. Most of the staff are helpful and friendly, but I can’t get over the noise. The other issue we had was the lack of hot water in the rooms at certain times and also there was no water at all one evening and the following morning after. We got the feeling that the cold water was a cost saving measure, but it was eventually sorted each time we complained. Also the wifi was practically non existant. If you’ve read this far, then you probably get the idea that we feel very disgruntled by our experience overall and you’d be right.

Yes you are allowed to have visitors just not overnight i presume...as for the all inclusive i would opt for the breakfast and explore Gros Islet as there are many options to choose from at reasonable prices.

I'm not sure there was even a recent refurbishment but the hotel is decent for the price. Accommodations are clean and the proximity to the beach is a 5mins walk. There is wear and tear so if the minor stuff doesn't bother you then you'd be fine. Hope this helps a bit.

Are the rooms as bad as people have made out?

They're really just very basic and outdated. No fancy finishes in bathroom and bedroom with average furniture. Don't be fooled by the pictures it's not as modern and up to date.
