The Inn at Shelburne Farms was originally the 19th-century country home of Dr. William Seward and Lila Vanderbilt Webb. Rehabilitated in 1987, today it serves as the guest house for the nonprofit. The house still has most of its original furnishings and fixtures. The Inn features: 24 guest rooms in the main house, 4 guest cottages, a public farm to table restaurant, and a 1,400 acre working landscape to explore and enjoy. Important information about guest rooms at the Inn Climate Control: The Inn is an historic building that does not have central heating or air conditioning. While we do everything we can to provide a comfortable guest experience, it is important for you to be aware that with Vermont’s variable weather it can be quite hot in the summer and chilly in the spring and fall. Elevators: All guest bedrooms in the main house are on the second and third floors and there are no elevators. Our staff will be delighted to assist with your baggage. Television, Radios, and Wi-fi: Guest bedrooms do not have televisions or radios. Wi-fi is available in the common rooms on the ground floor. Original fixtures and furnishings: Every room is unique and some have historic bathtubs that can be difficult to get in and out of. Please no pets.

We stayed at the Webb Room for one night, and the rest of the time, at the TreeHouse Cottage. The Webb Room was an upgrade because the room we originally booked had some plumbing issues or something - the Inn staff are awesome like that.
Food is fresh with unique flavor profiles. The whole place is beautiful and really

The inn is breathtaking as you approach after a lovely drive back in time past pastures and the enormous barn that deserves its own. :-)

We were greeted out front and assisted with our bags by Sam.

We were delighted to learn about the history of the inn as we were shown to our room. Seventy-five percent of the furnishings are original to the inn.

Our room was beautiful. The cool summer breeze, quiet country and comfortable bed were perfect for a sound night’s sleep.

The space is spectacular and you feel as if the place is yours. ALL of the staff are considerate and kind. They answer questions and show an interest in their guests.

The grounds immediately around the inn are inviting for reading or gazing at the lake, parents playing with their kids-and again enough space to not intrude on one another’s activities and privacy.

The restaurant is outstanding! The treats created in that kitchen were a delight. The waitstaff were delightful. Dine outside to watch the sunset. Relaxing and delicious.

The farm has lovely walking trails and benches placed here and there on all of them. Lots of birds and beautiful old trees.

The barn defies description. Just wow! There is cheese making facility and cheese makers will take questions. The bakery is outstanding! The petting area is perfect for kids.

So glad to have found such a wonderful place to start our Vermont vacation.

We can't fully describe how calming and beautiful it was to spend time at the Inn this spring. The view of a sunset across Lake Champlain was perhaps the most obvious plus. And yet there was so much more. The staff seemed happy to work there and it showed in the service.
We hiked up to Lone Tree Hill, explored trails, wandered through the gardens, and read books! Our room was so lovely and comfortable, but it was hard to stay inside when there were Adirondack chairs on the lawn beckoning us to enjoy a cocktail looking out over the lake. The cuisine, almost all of it produced right on the farm, was superb and fresh, and the servers were friendly and helpful.
Most of all, we liked that the mission of Shelburne Farms is to help create a sustainable future. The inn helps to support that mission, and we can't recommend it highly enough. It's our go-to place for special occasions!

This place is really special! It was the home of a Vanderbilt daughter, whose husband spared no expense in its design and construction. It's vast, gorgeously appointed, elegant and at the same time, comfortable in every way. We absolutely loved it and wish we could move in!

We were in the Overlook Room which had been the master bedroom, and I was told, the finest room in the hotel. My husband, who is more at home in a hunting camp than an elegant hotel, gushed about it on and on and on. If you can, get the Overlook.

Everything was of the highest quality, the most beautiful of materials. You could see the attention that the decorators took in choosing just the right item for each space throughout the hotel.

Additionally, we enjoyed each of the public spaces. I made a point to sit on the lawn, and in the south covered veranda, the drawing room, the library, the tea room, just to absorb the feel of each space.

Every afternoon, they served tea and coffee with cookies, scones or vegetables and dip.

We spent a whole day wandering the estate, and enjoyed the home's setting on Lake Champlain, its vast gardens, lawns and vistas, the farm barn, the breeding barn, the coach barn and the dairy barn. We also visited the Shelburne Museum (a drive into town, and not part of the actual estate), and well worth going.

I wish the Shelburne Farms Inn was closer to us, so we could visit a lot more often.

If you can, stay at this place. It's really special.

From the moment we were greeted on check in until after we departed, we felt a connection with the pastures and meadows that is Shelburne Farm’s 1400 acres.
The staff of the inn, the barns and the store had a keen desire to make our stay remarkable and memorable. Every staff member had a smile for us, wished us a good day and when we returned from our day, asked how we were and what we did with our day, with heart warming genuine interest.

The 40+ miles of walking trails took us by herds of cattle and hillsides of sheep. We watched the fields transformed from golden grasses to neat rolls of hay to feed the animals.

I walked to Windmill Hill and sat on a split rail bench looking out over Lake Champlain and to the Adirondacks..
I took out my paints and worked with my watercolors to capture what was in my heart about a place that smiled back at me with radiant sunsets, an Inn of unimaginable grace and a group of ‘land stewards’ that had predicted and made possible my comfort, peace of mind and well being with generosity and kindness.

Escape to a different world where you can step back to a simpler time of elegance, great food, and enjoy the outdoors. We stayed at the Inn which is a part of Shelburne Farms and has a fabulous restaurant. All the food is grown / raised on the farm and is served in a beautiful setting. Shelburne Farms is a walkers paradise and a learning experience all wrapped up in one.

Our introduction to the Inn was the pleasant gate keeper, beautiful lake, mountain scenery and greeter outside of the Inn to carry up our luggage. The Inn is quaint and decorated lovely as was our room. (Very nice touches of a complementary welcome bag and afternoon tea). The staff was very helpful and accommodating. Property is beautiful with a working farm. Great stay just wish it was longer.

We stayed at this charming 3 bedroom cottage with friends to attend a wedding in early May because it is the only cottage with heat. So Vermont! You wend your way through the mostly dirt roads of glorious Shelburne Farms to find the cottage behind one of the mind boggling 19th century barns. There is a fabulous view of the lake and the Adirondacks from the hammock. The cottage was cozy and well equipped and we had a lovely end of weekend dinner around the farmhouse table in the kitchen. And we were able to have a walk along the Shelburne Farm paths before the wedding. Amazing.

This is a grand hotel staffed by friendly and knowledgeable professionals. It is a not to be missed wonderful experience to stay here and to eat here. Particularly nice is the terrace of the restaurant that offers beautiful views of the grounds and the lake. My wife and I also enjoyed the muffins and coffee available from 7-9 AM, and the afternoon tea from 3:30-4:30. We are hoping to be able to return soon!

Comfortable, relatively informal, and relaxed. Excellent food; don't miss the complimentary muffins in the morning (especially the blueberry) and afternoon tea. Locally sourced ingredients and creative chefs. Fabulous staff!! Be aware that there is no AC (but powerful fans in every room), no elevator, and no television or radio (which promotes relaxation!). There is WiFi. Wonderful playroom for children. If you are a peony lover, visit in mid-June!
