After an 50 minute night flight from Antigua, we waited for our confirmed hotel pickup. After 15 minutes, I called and the owner apologized and came immediately (driver was sick and there would be no US $10 charge) for the 1.2 km west to this hotel.
Her nice granddaughter took our Visa payment, provided WiFi code, then showed us down to our ground floor Studio A. (Our confirmed Studio D had been given away by mistake to a late arriving group). We entered a small private patio to a simple but spacious room with a firm queen, 2 side closets, small wall TV with English cable channels, AC, fan and only one of the 3 lights worked. To the side was a small kitchen with table and 2 chairs, and further down, the bathroom with an odd vented bi-fold door and bare stall shower. We asked for toilet paper, a hand towel and 2 coffee mugs.
The AC quit running during the night and we put on the fan which did not control the no see-ums. Our morning shower had no hot and very slow cold water.
Our 7:30 AM patio breakfast included scrambled eggs with cheese, salad, 2 types of bread and coffee with a delightful view over the bay surrounded by tropical gardens. We could hear the waves gently hitting the shore and saw a plane coming in to land. At 8:15 AM, the owner kindly dropped us at the bus station on her way to town at no charge.
We found this quiet friendly hotel a convenient stay for our after dark flight and a decent value at US$84 per night.

The location is great. You will probably need to rent a car because the property is on a hill however, we'd recommend renting a car anyway since the cab fares in St. Lucia are atrocious. There is a beach for snorkleing right at the property and Vigie beach is a 1 mintue drive away. This hotel is an ideal location if you want to travel all over the island. It's near the market in Castries, a quick drive to Rodney Bay or Gros Islet and very accessible to all the beautiful beaches between Marigot Bay and Soufriere.
The rooms were clean and nicely air conditioned which is rare to find under 100 USD/night. Our room was very large with a private washroom and large closet. In fact, we were the only ones renting in that area so we had the kitchen, living space and AMAZING patio all to ourselves. The view there was so beautiful that my fiance actually proposed to me on that patio... There was a common kitchen that we used to cook 1 - 2 meals a day which saved us a lot of money. We'd often cook breakfast and/or luch and enjoy it on the patio watching cruise ships come into dock. Luckily for us no one else was in this area so we used the kitchen and living space for ourselves. Evenings we usually went out of dinner. The toilets were a little finicky.
The ladies who worked there were so friendly and very helpful. At other properties we felt the owners were just trying to get as much money as possible out of us, however the Casa Del Vega staff were wonderful and helped make our stay that much better.
To give you some insight as to what kind of travellers we are: I'm 26 and my partner is 35 and we've travelled all around the world. We've outgrown hostels and we've done the all-inclusives many times before. We always felt like we never truly experienced the country and its culture at all all-inclusive. In St. Lucia, we were looking for activities and adventures not a fancy hotel with a medi-ocre buffet that you get bored of after two days. We wanted to meet real locals and fit into the culture there. To entertain ourselves at night we would either go out for dinner at a locale restaurant or just play Yahtzee and drink Rum on the patio - It was really great!
We highly recommend thisproperty to couples, families or singles looking to travel around St. Lucia. It's not an experience to be compared to an all-inclusive but it is perfect for those looking to experience the island and have access to lots of different activities - without breaking the bank.

Mrs. Compton provides a simple breakfast and dinner in the common area, for those who request it ($3 USD/$4 USD, respectively) and her cooking is pleasant. If you rent a car during your trip (check your life insurance policy), her guesthouse is a perfect midway point for your travels to Rodney Bay and Gros Islet (to the north) and Marigot Bay and Soufriere (to the South).
Mrs. Compton and Paula were so kind to us. I have very pleasant memories of this place. It is also a great location for meeting fellow travelers…the kind of people who don’t limit themselves to the borders of all-inclusive resorts. This is a family guest house developed and added to over the years so the rooms vary in size and 'here and there' location within the property. There are three small standard rooms that open out onto a passage/verandah facing inland without views. But guests here can use the main lounge and beautiful communial porch overlooking the bay and each one has a TV, a small fridge and electric kettle. There is a convenient cold water fountain in the main lounge. There are also four studios with kitchenettes and three apartments of two, three and five rooms each with kitchens.
I came for the weekend from a neighbouring island and had a good time. It was nice to start the day with a hearty breakfast with a choice of eggs, coffee, juice, meats and salad and cereal, prepared on one of the open dining areas by the charming hostess Marvlyn Compton who is a font of island information and advice.
Being in an up-market housing area it is quiet and peaceful with easy walks to the historic barracks and gun emplacements nearby and to the scenic Vigie lighthouse up on the hill. It may be too quet and out of the way for some, but you can easily order a taxi or rent a car to go to the more active spots if that's what you want. Or if you want an action-packed party time this simply may not be the place for you and you should be at Rodney Bay!
Walk about 400 meters to the French and Venezuelan Embassies and there is 'Friends Cafe' which serves great snack lunches and sandwiches. At my request they wrapped an order for me to have as dinner later on. A little further down the hill and you get to the airport terminal facilities and bar or try out the beach bars and swim on lovely Vigie beach.I actually did not go beyong this peninsular for the whole weekend, but then again I wanted peaceful relaxation!
Remember in your assessment that this is a family guest house, not a four star resort, and naturally the amenities are the simple essentials but they are clean and the small number of staff are polite and keen to help.
A/C excellent
Shower excellent
comfortable bed
kind and accommodating owner
value for money
Cons:
possibly a little out of the way if you are in St. Lucia to sightsee (though a beautiful beach just down the road and pretty ruins, makes up for it in my opinion)
WIFI doesn't work very well
I found this to perfectly fit what i needed. I was transitting in St. Lucia and needed a comfortable place to stay close to the airport. The room was comfortable and the A/C was wonderful. I did not have any problems with the water pressure or temperature in the shower, even when I took a shower in the middle of the night.
The owner was a very kind lady who drove my partner and I to dinner and the airport the next morning. The view from the lounge was stunning though I am not sure that you can get a room with a view.
