The Princess Kamala Beachfront Hotel, often lauded for its prime beachside location and spacious accommodations, garners mixed reactions from guests. While the serene pool area adds a touch of elegance, the reception's lackluster charm and dated rooms that cry out for renovation dampen the overall appeal. Reviews indicate a discrepancy between the high price tag and the perceived value, with some suggesting it doesn't live up to 5-star expectations. Cleanliness is generally well-regarded, but the pool maintenance and occasional service hiccups suggest room for improvement.

We loved it here! Does need a general renovation, rooms are a bit dated but didn't spend much time in there. Bed was comfy, rooms were cleaned and linen changed everyday. Air con was good. Mosquito netting over bathroom windows. We had an electronic mosquito device in the room. Tablets for this were replaced within 30 mins on arrival. Fridge was very cold, keeping beer, ice water etc beautifully cold. Two bottles of water provided daily.
Reception staff were polite and there was always someone on duty who could support the younger staff if their English wasn't brilliant.
We had a garden chalet. Pretty lily pond outside, large balcony but too hot/ humid to use much. Were anxious about mosquitoes being so close to the water but not a problem at all. Maybe it wasn't the season for them?
Beach just over the quiet road. We did find that a problem. Beach beds cost 100 baht a day and you were cared for by the young lads shifting the umbrellas throughout the day so you can keep in the shade if you wanted.
Swimming pool was too warm so only used it twice in the week we were there. Great massage fountains though!
Breakfast was great. I really don't understand the criticism here. My only recommendation as a vegetarian is that the hot food wasn't labelled so I was left confused as to whether they contained meat. The restaurant was quite hot too.
We would return here.

We had planned to visit Phuket for some time and decided on Kamala. We chose the Princess Kamala despite the mixed reviews. We had booked a deluxe room for 3 nights. On arrival we were told that the deluxe room we had booked was on the third floor but that there was no lift. My wife has mobility issues so, although the room looked fine from a cursory glance, the stairs were too difficult. We were shown a garden room as an alternative which was definitely unsatisfactory. So we sat in the reception area and started to view other hotels. However, after a few minutes, even though the hotel was full, another deluxe room suddenly became available in another wing of the hotel which did in fact have a lift. Given it was getting late we accepted and moved in. The room was spacious but, like the rest of the hotel, somewhat tired. Drawers didn’t close properly, the furniture looked well used. There was a sitting out area which was ok. The air con was effective. Room cleaning was slightly perfunctory.
In terms of facilities, there is a large swimming pool with a bar. The bar closed at 1900. There is no other bar or lounge area in the hotel. A coffee shop opens from 0800 to 2000 serving coffee and cakes. We used the restaurant the food was fine but you can’t get coffee with your meal after the adjoining coffee shop closes! Staff were helpful and friendly.
Overall it is hard to support a five star rating for this hotel. Lack of facilities, tiredness and lack of room service point to a more realistic 3 star rating.

We stayed in this hotel from the 7th of April till the 12th, about the room, it was outdated and badly in need of renovation. The cleaning average, we struggled with the towels, most of them had stains and are old, we asked for new ones but they also had stains. The breakfast area was way too warm was in an open area with only a few fans working. The food was OK, there were quite a few salads, a few dishes like noodles, fried rice, eggs, cereals, but no gluten free options available. The pool needs work as many tiles are loose, at least the beach is just across the street. The pool lacked any atmosphere, the barman helped himself to a few shots from the cocktails he was making. Also there were not enough sun loungers.

We read the reviews before we booked and as with all reviews you have to read between the lines, so this review is from a reasonably well travelled couple around Thailand and the world, not overly fussy but expect what we pay for.

Firstly it was the most we have ever paid for a hotel in Thailand so we thought it would be something a little special - No. At over £100 a night not including breakfast, it is almost twice what we pay in Hua Hin for a fantastic 3 star. More than Pantong for a 4 star, Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and Koh Lipe.

Secondly the positives
The bed is comfy
Shower is good
Towels changed very regularly
Near to the beach not on the beach
In Kamala town so easy access to bars, restaurants and shopping.

Thirdly, and sadly this is an exhaustive list

The Pool, we only went in once and that was it. It was truly disgusting. In all my years I have never seen anything so vile. Thick green/black scum line all round the edge, cloudy water where you couldn’t see your feet at the bottom, bar stools so high in the water you couldn’t get on them, very unpleasant and rude barman, many tiles missing in the pool with sharp edges, no filters to clean the water or the dirt and whatever else sank to the bottom after it had finished floating on the top and lastly with no thorough cleaning at all the water was looking stagnant by the time we left. Horrific

Staff were not friendly, never said hello or even smiled at you. Tried to ignore you for as long as possible. Housekeeping was probably the best here but it was pot luck if the room was done by the time we came from the beach at 4:30/5:00pm.

The room was quite nice but if you have any mobility issues you must ask for a ground floor room as there are no lifts and the stairs are very very steep. We had an issue with our air con that it was dripping from the vent and inside the wardrobe was wet so we couldn’t hang our clothes up. We told reception and with no apology they just asked for room number. Went back later that day hopeful it was fixed which it was as long as you didn’t turn it back on. All they’d done was wipe it dry, as soon as we turned it back on the same issue. Again mentioned it the following morning and it seemed to be ok after this but still very dewy all the time. In our friends room next door, the water tap came off in her hand, light bulbs where missing, air con was poor, the plug by the kettle was blanket plated off so they had the kettle on the floor on the other side of the room and the balcony door didn’t lock.

We had a small bill to pay when we left and as we handed the key back we were asked for 320 Thb for our bill. No issue there but no “thank you, have a safe trip or did you enjoy your stay”. They must know what a dump they are working in.

All in all we will never ever go back to this overpriced, unfriendly dirty hotel.

Apologies for the long review but when travelling so far and spending a lot of money, you deserve to know what you are walking into.

This was down as 5 star but i would give it 2 at a push. We had two 2 rooms/huts together, with outdoor space. Rooms were dated old and dark. Not enough light inside. No sockets, glad I brought my mini extension lead. Bathrooms were too small and not thought out well at all, water from shower literally went everywhere. Toilet roll was cheapest you can get. Nowhere to plug the kettle and a massive fridge which I felt no need for. The sitting room literally had one sofa, 1 big fridge and a table.

Servicing was poor, sometimes no hand towels, sometimes, no replacement toilet roll and sometimes our children were in the room in bed and requested that they didn't service their side of their room, because we left the cinnecting door open sometimes only to be disturbed and woken up to movements in their sitting area. No servicing means No servicing.

Breakfast was very poor and limited. The quality from the pastries could be seen You had to request bacon it wasn't out there. The bread was uncovered the fruit and yogurt had flies all over it, some of the hot plate containers didn't close properly, again flies around. Same for pancakes and other items. Totally unhygienic. Others may feel this is ok but for me this is not on in a so-called 5 star place knowing flies are around things need to be covered. So the 1st day I had a coffee and toast. I missed breakfast for the next 3 days and went to 7-11 for granola and yogurt and had that in the morning. We avoided eating dinner here due to the poor breakfast. I Wish I'd only booked the one night and moved on. Please beware some 5 star hotels in Thailand are not really 5 star and its annoying when photos show otherwise and reviews say different.

The restaurant needed a good paint and new drapes, the land around was a mess with lots of rubbish dumped everywhere and there were works going on which obviously couldn't be helped and lastly the pool was ok.

I feel this hotel was very deceptive as when you arrive the Reception area looks quite grand but once inside its a very different story and very disappointing.

From the outset I should state that we were supposed to stay three days , but due to our flight being cancelled and brought forward two days by the airline we had no choice but to cancel part of our non refundable booking , the hotel were extremely accommodating and offered us a two day credit for a future stay , which as regular visitors to this area we were happy to accept, that said we have stayed in many five star hotels in Thailand and unfortunately this is not one of them ,at best it’s three and half stars , evev though it presents quite well on approach and the check in is very efficient and friendly as is the baggage service it is sadly downhill thereafter . Our room (6106) was quite small , dark and very old fashioned ,6he bathroom was really very cramped with ancient fittings , water pressure and toiletries were adequate . The hotel is very quiet and sleep quality on a reasonable mattress was good . Externally there is a large pool , a small gym and a restaurant where breakfast is served if you make that option when booking . In short the staff are superb e everyone we encountered was charming and friendly especially poon and the pregnant lady on reception but the property either needs a complete up date of rebrand itself as three star not five star which was an opinion we heard from several other guests It really is a shame that I am writing this as I’m sure the hotel has suffered serious economic damage due to the corona virus .

Even though my stay was brief, it left a good impression. The front desk staff were notably welcoming, making the check-in a breeze. The room was spacious, contemporary, and boasted efficient air conditioning. I enjoyed the serenity of the pool, complemented by the perfect volume of background music and the delightful swim-up bar. Location is also perfect being right across the street from the beach and right in town so you don’t have to walk too far to get some more affordable food options.

All in all, a flawless 10/10 experience.

I consider myself fairly well travelled and have stayed in a whole range of hotels, home stays across the world, this hotel is definitely not 5 star, it would be 3 star at best. And it’s not beachfront either, you have to cross a road and go through a market or car park to reach the beach. We booked a Garden view room for 6 nights over the New Year period. The first room we were allocated was terrible, dark, smelly and very tired looking. The reception were initially reluctant to change as they said this was the type of room we had booked and showed us photos on the website to clarify. In fairness this is factually correct, however, in reality the rooms do not have the enhanced lighting nor the appearance of space as portrayed in the photos. The reception did reallocate us to another Garden View room towards the back of the hotel which was a vast improvement. Breakfast was mediocre at best. On the positives the pool area was quite nice although it does get crowded at times. Also the staff in all areas were friendly and polite. For the money you pay, personally I think you can improve.

Great location in Kamala, close to 7 eleven, Big C supermarket, bars, restaurants, massages and only short stroll across road and over the green bridge to the beach. Staff hard working and doing their best for your guests, remember to be kind!
Pool access rooms were great , daily cleaning staff happy and friendly. Typical delicious buffet style breakfast, something for everyone and lots of fresh fruit. If your a coffee lover then your going to enjoy the resorts coffee shop “On the Beach Café “ where Sartre and her team make delicious hot and cold coffee and you can enjoy in air conditioned comfort, the coffee shop staff are delightful.
We stayed for 18 nights and enjoyed Princess Kamala more each day.
The hotel is definitely not 5 star as it is showing signs of age and the pool is in desperate need of some attention, we have been to Thailand many many times and stayed in true 5 star resorts
3 star resort at best but nevertheless we all had a wonderful time at Princess Kamala ( not beachfront) Resort .
