Nestled in a prime spot with striking sunset views over Moorea, the InterContinental Resort Tahiti garners accolades for its inviting Polynesian shows and serene ambiance. Though some guests regard the pricing as steep, the hotel's well-maintained rooms with picturesque vistas, along with top-notch amenities like the stunning pools and snorkeling lagoon, are often highlighted. While the professional staff and prompt service receive praise, a few visitors have pointed out occasional slow service. The hotel's overall cleanliness impresses, despite rare housekeeping oversights.

We arrived at 6am from a long night flight to be told that our room was ready and they had upgraded us from Super Saver to Ocean Front Moorea View! I had emailed them prior to let them know our arrival time. We are Platinum Elite. We spent the day poolside and it was amazing. The second day, we took their shuttle (5 bucks each way... see the concierge) to the French Market and when we returned at 1130 am, our overwater bungalow was ready!!! People pay taxi fair when they can catch the shuttle! We checked in to paradise for a day and we requested a late checkout the following day for 2pm which they granted. The snorkeling is fabulous on the reef about 50 feet from the bungalow. We saw moray eels and the most colorful fish. The people next door to us saw sharks and rays the day before. The bungalow was perfection. The service from all the staff was amazing! The macaroons were left on our bed and we received 2 drink vouchers for our Platinum Elite status. Our stay could not have been better. The concierge arranged our taxi to the ship so we did not have to wait in line as others did for a taxi! Perfect in every aspect!

We stayed here twice, before and after our Paul Gauguin cruise. First night was in an overwater bungalow on the motu. Just spectacular and magical. The room was beautiful, the bathroom a 10 on a scale of 10, and the view...breathtaking. We had room service dinner on our deck, and slept overnight with the doors to the lagoon pulled all the way back so we could listen to the sound of the ocean. Watched a gorgeous sunset from our deck and woke up to a beautiful turquoise lagoon with view of Moorea in the distance. It was truly special and worth doing, even though expensive. We also stayed at the hotel again at the end of our cruise just for the day, but this time in a regular room. We got off the ship around 9 a.m. and were fortunately able to check into our room about 9:30 a.m. Our room was beautiful, and just steps to the pool and main areas of the resort, so we could walk out our glass sliders and be at our pool chairs in 30 seconds. While the resort does not offer day rooms as a choice when booking, we figured it was worth booking a room at the end of our cruise just so we would have a place to rest, enjoy a pool, nap, and shower before leaving on our flight at 8:40 pm that night. I would definitely stay here again!

This was are 3rd trip to French Polynesia, and our 3rd 1-night stay at the Intercontinental Tahiti. Because our flights from US have always arrived in the evening, we always had a night in Tahiti on arrival. In our previous 2 trips, we had Panoramic garden view rooms (standard room offered in the Costco packages). On this trip we decided to move up to a Superior Over-water Lagoon Bungalow. In past trips we had a morning ferry to Moorea, so upgrading did not make sense for less than 12 hr stay. On this trip, we had a late afternoon flight to Raiatea, so we figured we would upgrade since we had more time at the resort. Additionally, this room type has its own dedicated AC (not central as in the buildings) which we figured was better for times of COVID. So are glad we upgraded and are more likely to do so on future trips. The room was wonderful. Very new. Very clean. Very comfortable (and more space compared).

For morning breakfast, they did a good job keeping a COVID safe environment. Masks were required in the buffet food area (remove mask only at your table, and plenty of space between tables). For picking food in the buffet, no sharing of utensils; they had new ones for each customer to use then dispose of after getting through the buffet line. Managed well - felt very safe.

Dear Guest, Thank you very much for your visit and very gentle comment. We do appreciate your legitimate feeling of safety which makes us very proud about our procedures in place. Please let me come back to you for a slight correction on our Air conditionning system in the main building. Indeed it is centralised; however it is a closed water circuit, external to the rooms, that circulates cold water from the refrigerator to a metal radiator heat exchanger in the room. This allows the room air cooling with no communication at all with the rest of the water circuit. The cold water remains outside, the air remains inside the room there is No particle transmission possible into the room. I hope this will help avoid any possible doubt about it. Thanking you again. With our kindest regards. Guest relation manager

My husband and I stayed here for just one night on our way to New Zealand. We had a 19 hour layover so we wanted a place that had a pool and a dining option as there aren’t many options near the airport. This definitely fit the bill. We arrived around midnight and had a nice welcome drink and then arrived to our room which was lovely! They offered 50% off the breakfast buffet the next morning for being IHG members which was nice. That came out to be about $65 USD and they had a very large selection as well as a nice Polynesian show while you ate. We hung by the pool the remainder of the day and we’re able to use a changing room for 30 minutes that had a shower. Unfortunately the shower didn’t look like it had been cleaned recently so that was a bummer. There aren’t very many amenities at the resort and not much to do nearby so I would only recommend this property for a couple nights, then move on to one of the nearby islands with more to do a better amenities.

We stayed at the hotel 3 nights. The first night in 2 king bedrooms overlooking the lagoon, and the next 2 nights in a large overwater Motu bungalow (the large overwater bungalow wasn’t available the first night). The king room is your average hotel room, a little outdated, but the view was beautiful. We had macaroons in the refrigerator, which was a nice touch. There are two types of shower heads and I couldn’t figure out at first how to use the one at the ceiling, they could have used instructions there.

Talking about instructions, this hotel needs to print out an introductory sheet with information about hotel offerings and hand it out when you check in. For example, I asked the pool guy if they have fish feeding since I have seen that done elsewhere. He told me that they feed the fish at 9 am and 3 pm. I also asked him about water activities and he referred me to the TopDive shop that has a free kayak for one hour a day. We did not get to use the kayak because on both days we went there they told us that the water is too rough. The hotel could list all these options on the information sheet.

The overwater bungalow was fabulous. We stayed in one of the large ones. There is a king size bed in the bedroom, huge closet, large bathroom with a tub and a shower and 2 sinks, a large living room where the hotel set up a daybed and two rollaways for the kids, glass table that you can see the ocean, a small refrigerator, coffee machine, great outdoor area with access to the water. The water is rough and we did not feel comfortable swimming around, I think that you need to be a good swimmer to swim there.

Breakfast was included in our rate. If you can, get the rate with breakfast because breakfast is otherwise very expensive. If you do not get the rate with breakfast I heard that Captain Blight in town has affordable breakfast and lunch. Breakfast at the hotel had a nice variety and very nice views. I did not care for their breads but the omelette and fruit selection was good. They could use better cheese selection and smoked salmon.

There are washers and dryers in a few locations around the hotel. Bring your own detergent, otherwise it is free.

We rented a car and drove around the island. The concierge pointed a few places to stop at and that was helpful.

We ate dinner one night at Casa Bianca which is not far from the hotel and the food was OK, not great but nice atmosphere. There is a large supermarket called Carrefour close to the restaurant in case you want to get some snacks.

It was raining throughout most of our stay. If you can, think twice before you travel to Tahiti in December.

I would definitely stay at this property again. I hope that they take my advice and hand out an information sheet at check in in the future.

My wife and I visited here during our time on Tahiti.

Since the details of the resort are well covered by the other reviews, I want to give a few things I didn’t see when I read through them.

The real selling point of the hotel is the location. Being close to the airport makes for a fast, cheap cab ride when arriving late at night like we did. But this comes at a cost. The hotel isn’t huge and when we ventured off the property for a walk, there is really nothing else nearby. If you are staying here for more than two nights, things can get claustrophobic really quick. You can get a ride into the city for cheaper than a cab if you are willing to abide by its schedule. The amnesties are nice but as others point out, also pricy.

The main hotel rooms are respectably large with air conditioning but these are not villas like in other resorts. The TV gets two or three English channels and the WiFi isn’t fast if you are looking for options on a rainy day.

The things that are pricy like the food, drinks and shows do come with extra extravagance that I had not expected. First example is the breakfast buffet. The American buffet had the most options I have seen anywhere. Think 8+ bread options (not including pastries) and 7 jams to pair. Another example is the Polynesian show. The buffet again had so many options. You simply could not try a little of everything without filling up. The show as well ran for over an hour. However, other resorts offer similar shows with less options for cheaper. If all you really want is some raw fish with coconut milk, I’d suggest a different option.

I am one of those people who would have liked a little less extravagance for just a little cheaper but I can’t deny that the hotel did go above and beyond on those items. Do use for 1-2 nights as a transit option. Just take a look around and see if it has everything you want if staying in French Polynesia longer. Moorea and Bora Bora have great options as well.

My husband and I stayed here 1 night upon arrival (in Garden Suite) and then 3 nights prior to departure (Overwater Bungalow near Lotus Restaurant) and enjoyed our stay both times.

We booked our stay with Costco Travel and highly recommend using them. The Garden Suite was very spacious and clean with a super large tub. The room was pretty standard, no complaints. We really loved the overwater bungalow as it was in a more secluded and quiet part of the resort. These bungalows felt newer compared to the Garden Room as there were USB ports near the bed and the design was more contemporary chic, which we really liked. There were a lot of corals around our room, so snorkeling was quite good. We saw a ton of urchins and even a few lionfish! Pictures of our rooms on the website felt accurate, but actually felt more spacious in person.

It was nice having two restaurants on property. We ate lunch and dinner at both restaurants and found the food to be very good to excellent. Le Lotus is definitely more refined compared to the main restaurant. I thought there was a wide variety of options at the main restaurant. Breakfast was buffet, but I really appreciated that they provided individual serving utensils to guests don't share the same tongs, spoons, etc. However, it was pretty pricey (around $35/person), so we ended up ordering room service breakfast instead since we didn't have much of an appetite in the morning.

For COVID procedures, everyone wore masks. The restaurants also allow you to scan a QR code at the table to see the menu or offer what looked like disposable paper menus. They completely cleared the table after each guest, so I imagine they cleaned the salt/pepper and other "shared" items between guests (at least, I hope!). I felt very safe being around the resort.

All the staff we encountered were very helpful and really tried their best to make our stay very enjoyable. English was very good to excellent, depending on who you met.

Lastly, it was very convenient having activities within the resort. Top Dive scuba center was excellent with friendly and helpful staff. There's also a jet ski center nearby and I believe I also so kayaks and other water sports. I saw a concierge center as well as a table for Marama Tours (only open 8-10A) to conveniently offer tours/excursions outside the resort. I ended up booking tours online prior to arrival, so I can't comment on that.

Overall, we had an excellent stay and we would stay here again!

We stayed at the Intercontinental for one night before flying on to Bora Bora. We arranged the private airport transfer and were met as soon as we exited the airport with a fresh lei and were taken immediately to a van and to the hotel (which was a short drive away). We had reserved a basic room since we were only going to be there one night and the room was perfect for our needs. It was on the same level as the restaurant, so there was live music going on; however, this stopped at a reasonable time (I believe by about 8:30pm). I saw other reviews mentioning it was loud but, for us, we were in Tahiti, listening to live local music from our room, and it stopped at a reasonable time, so I had zero problem with it and actually enjoyed it! The next morning, we had their Sunday brunch buffet and this was awesome. Each time you went up to the buffet, they had you sanitize your hands and you picked up new tongs to get your food. There were so many options - poisson cru, smoked fish, pastries, donuts, fruit, meats, cheeses, breakfast meats, etc. - it was a wonderful spread and we ate way too much! This hotel was perfect for our one night stop-over in Tahiti!

This resort stands up to the high standards of Intercontinental and is known in Tahiti for being the best accommodation available on the island.
As a frequent traveller and IHG top tier member I was impressed by the friendly staff and modern comfortable and clean rooms.
I received a nice amenity which was delivered to my room and had a warm welcome from the manager.
Our room was at the far end of the main building on the second floor. Initially we were unable to find the room due to poor signage however a member of staff was nice enough to help us locate the room.
Our room had a wonderful view of the ocean and island of Moorea and we enjoyed a drink watching sunset from our nice patio.
Our only complaint was the noisy people above us, thus I recommend the top floor.
As for the facilities and grounds. We loved the well kept gardens featuring local flora and fruit plants. The 2 pools were nice and lagoonarium very impressive with large variety of fish.
The on site restaurants were a little disappointing with ok drinks and poor food, both in choice and taste.
Being close to the airport (less than a 5 min drive) this is convenient. If you cannot get a late checkout they have special transit rooms were you can get changed and have a shower before your flight. This was a great feature.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Intercontinental Tahiti. For the price, I thought the hotel delivered good rooms, a stunning location, plenty of amenities and a decent variety of food.

Pros worth mentioning:

+ The Tahitian brunch: we were lucky to arrive on Saturday night so that we got to experience the Sunday morning only Tahitian brunch. You could tell this was something special because the breakfast restaurant was packed full of local families dressed to the nines. The food offering for that brunch is truly awesome, and whilst it is much pricier than breakfast on any other day, I thought it was worth it for the whole experience (you do get a Polynesian dance show as well).

+ The lagoonarium: what an interesting concept to turn one of the pool areas into a actual seawater lagoon, complete with the fauna and flora that you would encounter in a natural lagoon, but in controlled conditions. The lagoonarium is connected to the ocean so the fish come and go as they please, but for people who aren't so great with waves and currents, it gives a chance to enjoy a sample of marine wildlife with practically no risk.

+ The sandy pool and bar: some people might find this concept tacky, but I do love a swim-up bar, especially when it's located in a sandy pool area.

+ The sunsets: the location of the hotel on the northwest coast of Tahiti makes it an ideal place to watch sunsets. I also noticed that the vast majority of rooms face the ocean, so you can enjoy sunsets from your own balcony. Personally my favourite sunset-watching spot was on the ocean edge of the sandy pool, with amazing views onto Moorea.

+ Free laundry amenities available: this is worth kuddos of its own because when you travel to Tahiti, you rarely go for just one week and there will come a point when laundry needs to be done. Whilst the detergent is not provided, the hotel does have laundry rooms with washers and dryers available for free. This saved us much money and pain during our long Polynesian trip. Even if you end up staying only a day at the hotel waiting for a connecting flight back, you can still wash and dry your clothes inside of a few hours.

As with any stay, we also experienced some minor downsides (having to ask for shower towels that weren't in the room at first, overlong waiting for food to be delivered when the restaurant is packed full of cruise passengers...), but the whole experience was nonetheless very memorable and I would really want to go back to this particular hotel.

Yes, they do. It costs $5 per person each way and goes about 4x a day. The Concierge has the details on it. There's also a local bus you can pick up nearby but you'll have to ask about it specifically since they push the shuttle.
