Iam a Travel Agent from Canada, I have traveled all over the world I can tell you Belize is beautiful and staying at Sapphire Beach Resort was excellent. First of all the drive out was fun, lots of pot holes to avoid sometimes water to avoid as well. We drove back and forth to town alot and had a great time, the more we did it the quicker we got! No room is a bad room, we had everything we needed in the room, toilet paper, everything to cook with, lots of towels, beach towels, hair dryer, full kitchen, and clean bedding. There are paddle boards and kayaks, the staff at the dive shop will help you with anything you need. The front desk staff (Jose) is amazing, reach out to him for all your questions or anything you need while there. Night security fantastic, asked us if we needed anything in a rain storm, brought us water, I looked out my window at 420 am and seen him patrolling the dock. Chef Tony and staff, excellent food ask him to cook you the catch of the day! We couldn't be happier with the resort the pools and the people.
The Reef is litterally 1/4 mile away, kayak or paddle board to it, don't forget to ask the dive shop for some snokel gear!
Have a great stay at Sapphire Beach and feel right at home like we did!

My family of four visited Sapphire Beach Resort at the height of the holidays from Dec 25-Jan 1. I emailed and spoke with José from Reservations many, many times throughout the months leading up to our trip and each and every time he was incredibly quick to respond, patient and so very welcoming. He helped with logistical questions (how do I get there) to setting up excursions with No Worries Dive Shop to questions about things to do with kids. I mean everything. We arrived after a full day travel from Oregon and wow...Sapphire Beach exceeded our expectations. The grounds are lovely and maintained daily by a hard working crew. The staff (José!) were so welcoming in person - greeted with a cocktail and bags taken to our room for us. 3 pools to choose from (crystal clear and lovely), towels always available, restaurant on site that cooked our fish from our fishing trip, bar with great happy hour prices, beach steps away that is maintained daily, paddle boards to play on. It was quite literally a paradise and if we didn't have day trips planned I don't think we would have left! It was wonderful and incredibly relaxing. I'd highly recommend this spot for families and couples wanting to really relax and get away from things for a bit. You can easily drive/golf cart or water taxi to town or to another island if you want more bars/restaurants or social things but we were quite happy relaxing on the hammocks instead. Thank you Sapphire!!

First off, let me start by saying this resort is not for party-goers wanting to hit all the beach bars along the coast. There are several other resorts that cater to party people and this resort is not it, but that's a good thing! You are in your own private piece of paradise when here and are given 5-star service at a fraction of the cost. Truly an unforgettable experience and an unexpected but wonderful surprise. Some nights we hit the bar near the two main pools (there are three and one is adult-only but not close to the bar which was unfortunate). The food was great and the small kitchen in the villa enabled us to cook our own breakfast and have lunch al fresco with the sound of the reef as our backdrop. The beach was one of our favorite spots and we spent quite a bit of time enjoying, what looked to us to be one of the only long stretches of beach on the island that was not heavily trafficked and where we were not being haggled by street vendors. A romantic and serene environment, definitely our setting! Take us back!

I stayed at the Sapphire over the Christmas holiday. My primary goal was to chill out and read on the beach and I accomplished that. But I definitely had some issues that were disappointing.
First, was the beach. While the beach itself was very well maintained by raking up dead sea grass the shallow water was full of this grass and very uninviting. If you're imagining those turquoise Caribbean waters, this ain't it.
Second, the restauarant manager chose to argue with me for the first four days of my stay. I had a hotel package that included breakfast. But when I ordered French toast the waitress told me it was not included...the manager communicating through her. Finally it was the fourth day that I asked to speak with him directly and then to Jose at the front desk. I had it in writing that French toast was included as an option. But the real point here was that it put a damper on the start of my visit. Essentially the restaurant (which is separately owned) manager was unaware of the package being offered by the hotel.
Third, I am an advanced certified diver and would have done some diving since it is Belize but that was definitely not my main priority. When i asked what the cost was for a refresher (which I always do when I haven't been diving for a while) I was told $180. Had I done the refresher before I left Colorado it would have been $80 and I've had refreshers in Cozumel for $60, so this too was a turnoff. Turns out a guy named Hill is in charge of the dive shop and any excursions you may wish to enjoy. Because he knows that you have to travel to town he charges a higher price than you can get in San Pedro. He told me this directly. So, because you are at a resort that is somewhat isolated you're going to pay more to snorkel, dive, or participate in any ot their offerings.
This same thing is true for the golf cart rental. $50 for 4 hours, but you can pay $50 a day if you ask at the front desk.
Another thing to be aware of is that the units are individually owned but then the site is operated/managed as a hotel.
Finally at breakfast and lunch each day there's a guy that fires up a powered blower and walks around the resort spraying malathion on the shrubbery. You get to inhale that as you eat.
Anyway, I enjoyed my stay and lots of people there were having a great time, but I felt that the things I mention above are all disappointing.

Hi James, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are glad you had such a great time during your stay and we are sorry if there were a few aspects that did not meet your or our expectations and standards. This is not what we aim for. We have addressed your concerns with staff and our partners to make these items clearer and easier for guests to address in the future. We are all here to offer the best service possible. In Belize and especially on Ambergris Caye the costs can be a bit higher than you may be use to in other countries. But at the resort we are within the range of other services offered on the island. Our prices include everything including convenience and drop off and pick up at the resort, where others may have hidden costs. I hope you are able to return in the future so we can make your stay even better.

Just got back from our New Year trip. I still have the turquoise beach images in my mind. Our unit has everything we need. The kitchen is well equipped, even with rice cooker and a small cooler. The hotel staff was very helpful. We booked our excursion trips from No Worries tour, they are professional. We love the Hol-Chan snorkeling trip, it's the best from my others in Hawaii' and Mexico.

However, the TV in the living room never worked because it needed WIFi. And the WIFI is very spotty. Restaurant is okay.

The resort located in the Northern part of the Caye. We rented the golf cart for transportation. It was fun to secret beach and San Pedro.

Remember to bring bugs repellent. The sand flies are very aggressive around sunset.

I contemplated writing this review since I selfishly would prefer this place be kept a secret for longer but our experience was just so great I have to share. We stayed for just a weekend and moved over to the mainland after our three-day stay. My friends and I stayed in a 3 bedroom condo right on the beach and you could quite literally hear the sounds of the waves crashing on the reef just sitting on the front balcony. We could not have asked for a more relaxing three-day stay on Ambergris Caye and were left rejuvenated from our travels after our weekend at this resort. Authentic and kind service from the staff & restaurant was just the cherry on top after booking a great package online. We got a top floor too with an excellent view of the beach and almost panoramic views of the island. The gardens and pathways were kept clean and manicured every morning making our breakfast walks feel like we were still dreaming. I'd definitely recommend choosing this hotel for small groups of friends or couples but be warned, you are about 30 minutes away from the party hub of San Pedro Town and will 100% need a golf cart so make sure you reserve one in advance as they run out before lunchtime every day.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Sapphire Beach Resort! We stayed there from December 25th until January 1st. Months before arriving in Belize we emailed and spoke with Jose (weekly) and Hill to set up our excursions. They were attentive and so focused on making sure we got to do everything we wanted to do! They set up all of our excursions beautifully. In fact, all the staff at the resort were very welcoming, accommodating, and kind. We loved visiting the Lamani Ruins; so worth getting up at 4:00 in the morning! Snorkeling was magical and the WTF Food Tour is a MUST. The beaches and the grounds of the resort were maintained very, very well. We loved Alejandro who served us delicious food and yummy tropical drinks! The weather was perfect and it wasn't crazy busy especially during peak season. Our villa was exactly want we wanted. We had 6 people staying in our villa and everyone had their own space and a stunning, stunning view! We safely got to and from San Pedro (despite the vicious pot holes) for our excursions. The gentlemen who drove us were caring and attentive; which made the pot holes bearable! Traveling was part of the adventure and we were totally about that. In conclusion, our trip was amazing, the staff was incredible, the food and drinks were great, and we would recommend this resort to anyone! Bring games, a good book, and be ready to relax and have a blast with your friends and family!

A private beach, beautifully serene with wonderful sunrises. Very clean with friendly, hard-working staff. Excursions with “No Worries” located right on site. Had both the American and Belizean breakfasts while there and they are equally good. We thoroughly enjoyed the Saturday night BBQ with live reggae that takes place poolside. Also appreciated the rum punch at arrival. The resort is secluded so definitely bring any supplies. Traveled there by van taxi and back by water taxi. Would recommend the water taxi.

We recently spent a week at Sapphire. The complex is clean and beautifully groomed, the beach is secluded, and the staff is so friendly. The resort is a distance from town, but it’s a perfect distance if you are looking for a quiet retreat.
However, it’s an easy golf cart ride into town for groceries (or to spend the day), or to secret beach. Consider a golf cart for the duration of your stay - makes it easier to come and go.
The food at Gem was delicious, and the staff was welcoming. A very big thank you to Tony and Jessica for their hospitality every morning!

We stayed a week. The restaurant was great to eat at and our condo was right by the pool. Wonderful views but as they stress, it is a long ride to town. With that, it’s quiet and a great place to relax. Rent a golf cart from the resort that way if there’s an issue you’re covered. Bring up so groceries from town. There must be 9 stores in San Pedro. If you want action and multiple restaurants and bars at your disposal this is NOT the place for you.

Sargassum has been an issues over the last five years for Belize, Mexico and Caribbean. It comes and goes unfortunately without a schedule. 2020 there was hardly any sargssum but earlier this year it returned. Currently it has not been bad again. You can definitely swim off the beach when there is no influx of sargassum. Ambergris Caye does have seagrass on the Caribbean sea side, which is a natural habitat of many beautiful sea life that makes Belize a world class snorkeling and diving spot. But if you get offshore towards the reefs the waters are deep and clear. Water is quite shallow just offshore and the dock does take you out a good ways. On the lagoon side a few miles from the resort is Secret Beach. That does not get sargassum and is a great spot to swim even during influxes. Belize has the world second longest feed system and it is just offshore. Many tours take you snorkeling and diving and Sapphire Beach Resort is a PADI/SSI certified diving resort. January and February are great months to visit. It is the dry season with beautiful days and cooler less humid temperatures.
We do have one pool that is dedicated to adult only. We also have the beautiful beach and Caribbean Sea to swim in.

It’s pretty bad, and smells of sulfur at night. The best place to go that doesn’t have it is Sapphire Beach. Your gonna need a golf cart to get there but it is definitely worth it. Hope this helped- Andrew
