Colony Club by Elegant Hotels garners mixed reviews, where the colonial charm appeals to some guests, yet others find the atmosphere lacking. While the beachfront location near Holetown is a highlight, the rooms often disappoint, requiring updates and better maintenance. Amenities like diverse breakfast options and a beautiful beach are appreciated, but not all experiences are positive, with some amenities falling short. Service quality varies; some staff members receive praise, but there are reports of less-than-attentive service. Additionally, the value proposition is questioned, with guests feeling the cost doesn't match the offering.

A very nice hotel not to expensive on Barbados standards main restaurant
Is lovely and the menu is excellent.
The free water sking and sailing is also excellent.
The location is close to many fantastic restaurants if you want to go out and explore, the island is in a 9 pm lock down at the moment but did not affect our trip as the hotel bar stays open later.
The airport testing is fast and you get your results 24 hours after landing no big problem as you can stay around the pool until you get the e mail and eat in the main restaurant no problem
We came with ba holidays and I think is excellent value
Don’t be put off by the early closing or the testing on arrival it’s easy

We recently spent a wonderful week at the Colony Club. The beach was beautiful, the food well prepared and most of the staff friendly and helpful. The overall experience was enhanced because everyone was educated and spoke English, the water was safe to drink, the dollar was taken at a 2 to 1 exchange, and we felt safe even riding public buses or walking at night. The resort had a proper British charm to it. We will look forward to going back next year and hope Marriott does dnot ruin the ambiance and jack up the price.

We stayed in October 2021, just before the main UK school half term holiday and had an amazing week. Our rooms were lovely and spotless. The staff were all very helpful and went out of their way to make sure everything was of a high standard. The food was amazing, we had fresh fish every day. It is quite pricey though if you are eating all meals at the hotel but the quality was worth it. Beach area and sunbeds also lovely, although you do sometimes have to get a sunbed early or they are all taken but I think if you stay away from any school holidays it's probably different. We loved Barbados and would certainly stay here again.

My partner and I stayed here as part of a dual visit to Barbados, the first being at Sandals. The hotel is located on a fantastic stretch of beach with calm waters, which was the highlight for us.

The room was beautiful although the bathroom could perhaps use a little update although perfectly serviceable.

We found the hotel food to be nice when using room service or eating in the beachside restaurant, however, breakfast was a disappointment to us, so much the last two days we could not face it.

If going out on the evening a taxi is required to the main restaurants along the west coast.

The staff were all friendly and helpful.

Unsure if we would return.

We stayed at Colony Club as a family of 3 with our 7 month old baby.

We booked an Ocean View Suite for the additional space to accommodate our daughters naps and sleeps but was left disappointed. The suites are generally well specified and fitted in a nice colonial style. However, the fabric of the building (along with many of the other buildings on CC) are in a poor condition and look tired. On arriving to our room we were met by a puddle of water below the AC unit and penetrating damp through the wall. The porter reported this immediately though it took 3 days to be moved to another suite (which also had worse penetrative damp problems). Anyone will know that baby’s sleeping in damp conditions is a health and safety no-no. Determined not to spend 10 nights moving from room to room and complaining we got on with our holiday with the aid of a portable de-humidifier running.

Two weeks prior to departing we were advised by Virgin Holidays that the main pool would be closed. Not satisfied with this as the pool was one of the main features that attracted us, with a baby, we queried this only to be told that it would not inconvenience us too much (!) There are other lagoon pools tucked away in the back corner of the complex however some of these are inaccessible as they are only accessible by the swim up rooms and the other lagoon pool is pretty soulless with vegetation floating in it having fallen from the trees. The main pool is one of the main features of CC by the decked area, beach and pool bar and for it to be empty for 3+ months is really poor and puts pressure on the beach (hence people reserving loungers from 6am ).

Turning to the positives the vast majority of the staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating. The breakfasts were plentiful and the service in general was excellent. The food and cocktails from the Laguna restaurant was excellent and the beach was well maintained every morning with clean towels provided regularly. We got taxis to restaurants most nights and the staff couldn’t do enough to help us with this and sort baby car seats out.

Colony Club should and could be a 5* hotel however it fell beneath our expectations for the reasons outlined. CC would benefit from the operators closing it for 6 months and refurbishing it to a proper standard, it looks tired and needs TLC. The staff and service is 5* but the accommodation and facilities sadly not.

We would love to come back again one day as the location is excellent, however, this won’t be until we get some comfort that these issues have been addressed.

Stayed for 11 nights in an Ocean view room. We chose the right room location-wise, just a few steps from the beach, really lovely.

Overall we had a fantastic break, the hotel's big plus is the fabulous beach it's on and the very good sunloungers.

But for a first class hotel Colony Club has 3 main shortfalls.

1. Staff/service. Some of the staff were lovely and excellent (eg. front desk, those in dark blue uniforms, <i think more senior>, the guys in white polo shirts and shorts but too many were inefficient, cold and disinterested to the point of rudeness, mostly those in light blue uniforms).

We arrived at the hotel at 4pm after a long journey and our room wasn't ready for a further hour. The following day, housekeeping didn't make our room up until around 7pm despite 4 journeys to reception (the room phone didn't work) over the course of the day to try and rectify.

2. Breakfast. Very disappointing quality. No local fresh fruit (all imported from US), no fresh bread (all packaged sliced bread) or rolls. All very motorway service station.

3. Condition. The hotel is tired and in need of tlc. Our room was comfortable (great bed) but bathroom, furnishings and fittings need modernising.

We ate in the hotel twice (the theme nights with beach bbq meat and fish and that was excellent.

The Colony Club has the potential to be an outstanding hotel but it's got quite a bit work to do to get there - not sure Marriott acquisition has helped things.
We went next door to the independently owned, similarly priced Coral Reef for dinner one night and difference in staff attitude and hotel comfort was significant. This is what CC needs to aspire to. If it manages it, we will return without a doubt. If not, we won't.

This was the first stay at the Colony Club and we have been informed that the hotel/resort was fantastic. A class above other resorts in Barbados.

The hotel looked like it required a good 'make over' and during the stay maintenance was being carried out (repainting swimming pool areas!) The hotel was busy and breakfast felt a bit of a school dinner hall situation.
Due to COVID there had been additional measures put in place, swim up bar not allowed to be used (but on sign to say so, just a "cannot sit there shout" from bar staff). Most if not all beach beds had been 'taken' by 07:00hrs each day, reserved with a book or personal belongings! So an early start to 'get a bed or 3'!
Couple of excellent staff to point out:
Sandy on the beach bar service
Maradona on the beach bar service
Matthew also on the beach bar service
Emma room cleaning.
These persons where, kind, helpful, and maybe you very welcome in the resort.

Other staff where rude and made you feel unwanted!

Not sure If we would return to this hotel again or even the Elegant Hotel group (had stayed in Turtle Beach before).

The online photos are taken some years ago, and require updating. Room types are not as stated and this was an issues when we arrived, we did get the room we booked but not straight away.
We booked a half board

This was our 4th visit to the Colony Club. We stayed in a ground floor room which fronted a small pool, exactly the same room from our previous visit. Our 2 sons and their wives/partner also stayed in similar rooms nearby. Although it could do with a lick of paint here and there and some refreshing in areas, it would be a disaster if it changed radically. We heard rumours that the new owners, Marriott group, were planning to make it an all inclusive resort next year. Everyone I spoke to, including many regular returnees, said they would no longer stay if that was the case. I cant see the point, since Barbados has many great restaurants, cafes and bars. We have stayed at a large all inclusive Marriott in St. Kitts but there were few local places to eat and it made sense there. Other islands, like St Lucia, Grenada and Antigua which we have visited, also have more all inclusives as there are few good local restaurants to choose from.
I fear that the introduction of all inclusive would change the demographic of clients, and would necessitate the building of at least another restaurant. Why change a winning formula?

After reading reviews in the Spring I was a little nervous coming here but these were purely due to the pool renovation which is now finished. After travelling extensively, this is one of the best hotels we have been to. Our room has a beautiful terrace with a walk-in lagoon, which is ideal for late afternoons, coming off the very well-kept and safe beach. The breakfast is substantial and varied (often negating the need for lunch!) And there's often live music both in the day and evening. Some have said it's a little run down but I really don't feel this, it's a luxurious yet rustic hotel with fruit and canapés delivered round the 4 pools and beach with additional activities and watersports put on by the hotel. Don't miss the shuttle to Oistins on a Friday! Its location is a safe 15-minute walk into Holetown, providing the option to eat out in the evening. It's a fantastic property with really helpful staff, so I'd highly recommend this!

Just back from a 10 day visit for my 60th birthday celebration had an amazing time the staff here are all so lovely the waitresses even sang to me at breakfast. Our room was steps away from the gorgeous beach the staff very attentive while we sunbathed especially Gillian who was such a happy lady always ready with a smile. We had breakfast every morning and it was very good so much to choose from. We had dinner a few times the lobster and Jazz evening was fab. Loved the steel band playing Sunday lunchtime will definitely be back as missing it already

Is it expensive to dine out in Holetown?
Answer from Ex
Hi, that question is a loaded gun. It depends on what you're looking for and the exchange rate that you're working with. We found a small snack at one of the Limegrove restaurants HINDS, expensive but a good shop around will give you a good idea of what's relatively reasonable to you.
