Thank you to Tigh-Na-Mara for offering an opportunity for a staycation with a discounted price for Vancouver Islanders. This was our first visit and we stayed 2 nights to celebrate our anniversary. We chose a top floor oceanview studio in the Gabriola building. It was recently updated, very clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We ordered take-out from the Cedars Restaurant – the burger platter for 2. It was delicious and so much food! One tip – bring plates if you are staying in the Gabriola studio and wish to get take out. The only cutlery in the studio were spoons for coffee. Cutlery was available at the restaurant. We brought plates from home. The burgers and fries were in 1 package, so plates were handy for separating the food. We enjoyed eating on our balcony. The grounds are very nice for strolling. Beach access was nearby. We appreciated everything that was in place to make it safe during COVID. Staff were wearing masks, there was adequate spacing and housekeeping didn’t come in to the room during our stay. We also liked that there were not any indoor corridors. We look forward to returning.

Beautiful one bedroom bungalow with jetted tub (jets not working in room 563), kitchen, living room, Murphy bed and patio. Robes were in the room but no slippers. I called to ask but they are not included. After calling the spa the said they would loan us a couple of their sandals from the Grotto spa. I was thankful. At dinner in the Cedar room, which was perfect, the manager said no slippers aa guests would be walking around the property in them. The plastic sandals we received would have been fine for walking outside of we ever chose to do so. Lovely place otherwise.

Well... I had heard the Tigh-Na-Mara was an amazing resort destination. Perhaps at one time it was.
We stayed in a Spa Bungalow. Upon entry of the room I found it dark, outdated and sadly not to the cleaning standards I have come to expect in our new COVID-19 reality. There were spider cobwebs with dust hanging from the ceiling, dust/dirt in the corners of the entry floor and bathroom, spider cobwebs between some of the log beams in both the bathroom and the main bedroom area.
I get that we are in nature however, housekeeping should have been able to get some of these details which really did not give us the confidence in how well the room is really being sanitized between stays.
Later that night we had reservations at the Cedars Restaurant. When we were escorted to our table it was such a bleak and unappealing atmosphere we asked if we could be sat outside on the patio instead.
Little did we know that there was a roadway right next to the cedar hedge so all you heard was car traffic and smelt exhaust. It was such an unpleasant atmosphere that we finished out drink and left.
The Cedars restaurant team were very pleasant and accommodating and doing their best to work with what they have. I really felt like we were in a scene from Dirty Dancing at a camp for families.
As an LGBTQ taveller I also did not feel overly welcomed
Overall for the price the resort commands it is not worth, in my opinion, one's vacation dollars. There are so many other beautiful places to visit on Vancouver Island. I would recommend a big skip here.

We stayed two nights at the resort for New Years and booked a Bed and Breakfast package in a Texada king room that included mineral pool passes and breakfast credits. After reading reviews, I knew that the decor was going to be a bit dated but it was clean and well-appointed. Check-in was smooth, but they mistakenly only gave me 2 of the 4 mineral pool passes I should have received and I had to go back later. They also informed me that there was only a New Years brunch on Jan 1 and while our breakfast credit applied, we’d need to reserve and it would be an additional $30 per person. When I called to reserve, they told me they didn’t have any tables and that it was “just $40”. Later, when I stopped in the restaurant in person, I was told that they had plenty of room and could easily accommodate us. On our first morning, we were awoken to the sound of the housekeeping staff in the room next to ours, yell-talking to each other and banging supplies around. While I can appreciate that they have a job to do, they were not being respectful of the guests and we heard others complain, as well. We elected to attend their NYE set menu dinner, which was a highlight of our stay. Overall, it was an okay stay at an expensive resort. All of the front desk, wait staff and the staff at the spa were friendly and helpful. The views were beautiful. The value? Not so much.

My stay is always good here for the last 5 years. Staff is friendly and helpful and requests for any extras will be provided pronto. The fact that your room becomes 'your' space for the duration of your stay is so nice, in particular with children. The freedom for the kids to roam around due to its location and safety is truly relaxing for the parents. And the view from each room is like being on a cruise ship. I will go back for a 6th year as my mother/daughter tradition for sure.

We contacted the resort only a couple of days prior to our stay and were lucky to get an Oceanview Gabriola Studio. Check in/out went smoothly and quickly. We had a corner unit on the lower level with lovely ocean view. Weather was beautiful while we were there so we were able to have "cocktail hour" and breakfast on the deck. Glad to have the small fridge for our food/drinks we brought, and a coffee maker with several pkgs of coffee provided. There is a lighted make up mirror in the bathroom with good lighting over the mirror. Bathroom looks like it was recently updated with the bathtub and shower in the same enclosure with very nice tile. Everything looked very clean, and the king bed was very comfortable. Although the unit doesn't have air conditioning, they do have a ceiling fan over the bed and a tower fan. We found they worked well. At night we left the deck door open and the screen closed and we got a nice ocean breeze.

We found an empty vodka bottle in the room at a time when cleaning should be of the utmost importance. There wasn’t any AC in the spa bungalow and was told we couldn’t get any portable fans to help cool the room down until the next day. Staff was not very helpful at all.

Love the location, ambience and spa. Sadly room was a little worn and a few kitchen amenities lacking. Room was perfect for the 3 of us as we had 2 bedrooms and Murphy bed, all were very comfortable. Large cobwebs and very dirty, dusty dirty overhead fan discouraging. Kitchen facilities baking sheet too large for oven, no measuring cup, well used knives makes eating in difficult even for weiner wraps! Housekeeping staff did not replace sugar packs or turn dishwasher on which was full with soap in it. This is a beautiful resort and a shame if it continues to get poor reviews.

My fiancé and I were excited for our first getaway as an engaged couple, and decided the Romance package would be perfect for Valentine’s Day! We had our dinner reservation on the 14th and before returning to our room a rose petal turn down, champagne, chocolates, souvenir glasses and a gift should have been set up.... at 7:30pm we returned to nothing. We called the front desk to ask when the turndown service would be provided and were told “shortly”. We let the front desk know we were going to the pool(this would allow the Romance package to be set up). After being at the pool for over an hour we returned and still nothing was done! At this point my fiancé and are not very impressed and our Romantic Valentine’s feeling is gone. Close to 10pm we had a knock on our door and were given a bottle of cheap wine and chocolates.
My fiancé and I were never provided a verbal apology or offered a discount on the additional $450 romance package, that was not even provided on Valentine’s Day! The following day the Romance package was provided, but by this point we were so frustrated with our weekend experience we did not enjoy it to the full extend we would have on Valentine’s Day. All we were told was that they had “lack of communication” on the 14th.... which is why we did not receive the service we paid for.
Our room was cozy and rustic just as we had hoped for, although the bathroom needs updating. Cedars restaurant is subpar, with bland food! The pool/sauna/whirlpool are in desperate need of updating and cleaning!
Overall, if you want a cozy room Tigh-Na-Mara will meet your needs. Don’t expect customer service, and all other aspects of the resort are in need of updating.

I stayed 2 nights here, Oct 26-28. My main reason was to have a spa day. I stayed in the Jedediah Studio room on the first floor. Not impressed at all, maybe I was expecting more...Room was nice wood decor and had a gas fireplace. But the window looked out on a tree, not like a view of a tree, but the bush was grown as a blocker in front of the window so there is nothing to look at except the back side of a bush. Room was a bit small as well. Kitchenette was good to have, except no space on the counter. The beach was a short walk from my room. Im sure its nice in the summer, I only went once to watch sunrise, was pretty. I had happy hour at Cedars one evening, was happy with my drinks and tacos. At The Grotto Spa, I chose the Grotto Retreat for $250, a 1 hour massage and the unlimited tapas and access to the mineral pools. I did have very high expectations for this as it's supposed to be the best spa on Vancouver Island (some google searches). So I love spa days and have experienced many. I would give this one maybe a 5 out of 10. I wasn't offered any drink when I arrived. And the mineral pool, I feel like it's really not that special. The massage was so-so. The tapas were pretty good though, I would say half of them were great and the other half were so-so. However I was there for 3 hours for tapas! I think 2 hours would have been long enough, 3 hours though and I was really just bored and ready to leave. I did love the shower products though. I probably would not return to either the resort or the spa, the spa was over priced for the services I received and I wasn't impressed with the room. (I went to Black Rock Resorts Drift Spa a few days later, and my experience was 10 times better!)

Yes. Tigh.na.mara is oceanfront so most accommodations are only steps away and a endless beach for everyone ... including dogs. Accommodations are also pet friendly in certain units ... even a dog wash. Available when you return from your hikes and the beach ... remember to ‘wipe your paws’ to keep the units clean for housekeeping and future guests.

We spent four days in September in one of the spa bungalows and have no complaints whatsoever. It was very quiet and surrounded by trees. Our unit did back unto a road, but it was not that busy and you did not hear the cars. Also there was a lot of trees between the road and cabin. One thing though, because of the trees, the inside was always little dark. The bungalows are suppose to give a rustic feeling by using real wood logs for the walls. We had a king size bed that was very comfortable,
The carpeting had a few ripples, but was
reasonably clean. The housekeeping each day was excellent and there were an abundant amount of fresh towels each day. Honestly, we had a wonderful experience and would go there again.

I would look into the 2 bedroom spa bungalows. They are the farthest from the main part of the resort, but they are the newest, and being away from the main part of the resort they would be the quietest - plus they are close to the spa.
There are more places to choose from in the Parksville area.
