Best part about this hotel: location. No matter which room you book, the view is amazing.

Hotel needs major renovations. Our ceiling had severe water damage. Supposedly renovations are beginning in April, so maybe wait to book until then. Wait times for restaurants for dinner are 1-2 hours. Be prepared to wake up at 6:30 am if you want a spot by the pool or beach. If you sleep until 8:30-9 am all spots will be gone. Waited 15-20 mins for beach towels everyday. Called on day 1 of our stay in regards to the aromatherapy offered daily, it was never done one time. Our mini bar was never stocked as it was supposed to be the entire week. Bed sheets were stained. Our umbrella on our terrace was broken. The day we got there, the elevator button to our floor was broken so we had to carry our luggage up 3 flights of stairs. This was actually fixed pretty fast once we pointed it out. Service is hit or miss. Some workers are great- Luis, Holi, Wilver, Enrique. Others, like Wilberth, mocked me ordering a coffee. Another guy sat on his phone texting while we waited to order a drink. The “manager” of the front desk/rooms Fillberto flat out lied. He said he was going to comp us for the inconvenience of our ceiling needing to be patched while we were there with massages at the spa. He never followed up with us. Upon check out, the public relations girl Carolina told us she “sent us a note with a bellboy” after we didn’t answer our phone in regards to the comp. However, there was a good chance it was broken too because it never rang.
I think I wouldn’t be so disappointed if I wasn’t under the assumption this was a 5 star hotel. I’ve stayed in other 5 star hotels & this one falls very short.

My husband and I visited ABBWR for the 4th time in 2 years, April 3-10th. We feel so fortunate to have found this incredible resort on the beautiful bay in Akumal.
We are active individuals, in our late 50’s, and this place is perfect for us. From walking on the beach, paddle boarding to the amazing snorkeling right from the beach twice a day, we slept wonderfully in our quiet room in building 3. The accommodations are well appointed, with a beautiful ocean front view and a lovely 2 person hot tub on each balcony. We can’t say enough good things about the special treatment from all the staff. Our room had a lovely floral arrangement upon arrival, and we received a plate of chocolates daily. Our room attendant, Guadeloupe, made us the most impressive towel art each day, and kept our room spotless.
The service and the food in all the restaurants was superb. We truly enjoyed everything we ate. We went to all 4 specialty restaurants at around 7:30 or 8 each evening and our wait never exceeded 20-30 minutes. During the wait, we enjoyed a drink. The bars always provided quick service and a variety of delicious drinks. The main buffet was perfect for breakfast and lunch, and the staff worked very hard, making sure your coffee and drinks we filled.
The entertainment is low key, but enjoyable, each evening main lobby / bar area.
Each morning my husband would walk the beach and out to the road, and upon his return, Maneul at the 24-hour snack bar got to know and expect him (recognized him by his Tilley hat) and had his coffee ready. Such a kind, hardworking individual.
This visit, the paddle boarding was a real challenge because of several windy, rough days, but Aytor was so very kind and encouraging.
My husband and I enjoyed visiting Oscar and Marbella at the Pool Bar. Oscar asked us our names when we arrived, and never forgot them for the entire week. Impressive! We mostly sat in front of building 3 during the day, absorbing the wonderful view and reading. On the beach we received great bar service from Diana who was a trainee. Towels were able several times throughout the day near building 4 and at the main pool.
We love the ability to be able to snorkel right from the beach and see lots of colourful fish, turtles, stingrays, barracuda and beautiful coral formations. We went out at least twice a day and each time we always came back pleased with our findings and amazing pictures we took with our underwater camera.
The most amazing part of this resort, is you can tell the staff all want you to enjoy every minute of your vacation, and they work hard to make it happen. All staff we interacted with, are so warm and welcoming, and go above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Yes, they are busy people, but always made you feel like your important.
The guys raking and cleaning the beach, need to be recognized. They work so hard to make the beach beautiful, but always appeared to be happy and say hello. It is such a daunting task.
Check in and check out was seamless. Upon arrival the welcome drink is so refreshing. The front desk staff were very interested in our departing thoughts. Raul, Telsa and Joana, thank you.
Natel the bellhop was so very kind upon our departure, assisting with our luggage and telling us to have a safe journey and come back soon! Upon our arrival the team greeted us and efficiently delivered our luggage to our room.
Emanuele B…Thank you so very much for the wonderful Facebook page you manage. I loved the opportunity to share my pictures with the group, and see everyone else’s contributions, plus learn as much as I can for future visits.
We traveled with Air Transat from Toronto and the service was efficient and they provided a shuttle with just one other stop on the way to the resort and private on the return. Fast and efficient.
We can’t wait to return for the amazing hospitality and some fun in the warm sun! See you soon!

We traveled to Mexico at the end of November 2015 .We traveled with Thomas Cooke on their A330 which was ok on the way out but not so good on the return journey ,at least not in economy class(try to upgrade on the overnight flight home as the seats in premium are much better)
We had ordered a private transfer and where out of the airport and in our taxi very quickly . It took about 1hr 10 mins transfer ( had checked into our room and had a wander about before the coach transfer arrived aprox 50min later)
The reception staff where great and we where given a welcome cocktail while checking in.
We had upgraded to a pent house with a roof top jacuzzi which was fine only 3 floors high but with the lift being out of service for the week was a bit of a bind. The room its self was large and very clean with a great walk in shower ,double sink ,safe and mini bar, stocked each day with soft drinks , 2 beers and a packet of crisps which was ok.If you wanted your bed linen and towels changing each day you had to let you maid know (no problem with that at all )
Breakfast was served in the self service restaurant and did get a little busy around 9am any earlier was fine.lunch could be taken in the same restaurant or around the pool again that was ok if you wanted to stay around the pool or on the beach without getting changed.
There is a main pool and and 3 smaller pools (one for each of the 3 blocks and a small pop up bar along the beach. Bar service was available from the poolside bar and the pop up bar and the ladies are very good..free pool/beach towels are also available at various points around the resort.
We had heard about the seaweed problem but the team of workers worked very hard to keep the sand clear and did a fantastic job from morning to night, and didnt spoil the sea swimming at all.You get 1 hours free snorkel hire per day or hire all day at a cost from on the beach .
In the evening we chose to eat at the specialist restaurants .There are 4 that I can remember . We didn't have to book but had to wait for a table on some nights and where told the wait would be 20/30 mins but it never went past 15 mins ,so we just had a pre meal drink. All the meals where of a high standard (long trousers are required in the Fusion restaurant , smart shorts allowed in the others.
wifi is available in the hotel but some days where better tan others.
Overall I would rate this hotel very good and would recommend it to others wanting a relaxed quiet holiday and just want to chill .Enjoy if you go.

We have had a fantastic time at Akumal Bay. Courteous and hard working staff who go out of their way to meet your every need. They work tirelessly all day, always greeting you with a smile and hola. The beach and location is stunning. Pool bar a must. Lovely pool however be prepared to get up early.to reserve a bed around the pool. Saying that their are plenty of sun loungers on the beach. We prepared the beach as it was more idyllic and away from the boisterous kids around the pool. Food lovely either buffet style or you can choose from.a number of restaurants. Drinks and cocktails are plentiful. A mention to Abel the Orchestra Man who entertained us with his Mexican music. Entertainment at night was ok but caters towards the older American tourist. A shout out to the beach workers who work all day to clear the seaweed from the beach. Not a problem for us.but some did complain. It's a beach deal with it. The junior suite was great, fresh towels and flowers daily. An immaculate resort for a.chilled outbreak in paradise. Thanks to all the staff we.will be back..

There are no sun loungers near the smaller pools. There is an odd Palapa dotted about on the grassy areas. There are sun loungers only on the beach. It is less busy in front of blocks 3 & 4 where the beach is narrower and more rocky in front of block 4.

Gradual entry in the main pool…I believe so. There are three small child areas on one end of the main pool and I believe there is a gradual entry there, as well.

Unfortunately no, there were no regular beach style lounge chairs, which we found odd. It was the one thing we wish they did have.
